Mondo has a new Star Wars poster up for sale today!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Don't say I never gave you nothin'! Mondo's last Star Wars print sold out before I could even post a story on it. Unfortunately I don't have one of these new Tusken Raider prints by Dave Kinsey to give away, but I do have a heads up that they go on sale sometime today, so keep an eye on Mondo's site.
It's a 24x36 print limited to 350 and hand numbered. These collectors prints go crazy fast and I think this Raider is even cooler than the lonely Gonk droid personally.

Cool, right? Good luck folks! Stay frosty and you could have that fucker staring you down in your own home, pumping its imaginary arms up and down in triumph. Okay, enough nerding out!

I don't know. I've still seen better. Does Mondo owe AICN money or something?
-
I mean they sure come off that way.
-
and with such a silly comment too.
-
fucking expensive for a print. if i had the scratch i would buy one but holy shit if that isn't a bit much for a wall hanging. then again if you still live at your parents house its all good right?
-
But I've really enjoyed both of them so far. I have nothing but good to say about whatever branch of the Lucas empire allowed this license to happen. They should do more small geek oriented stuff like this, imo.
-
Or a Vader poster? Is Mondo not allowed to do major characters?
-
By making it 'collectible'!
-
For some reason I just broke out laughing when I saw this thing. Don't ask me why.
-
Seriously, I'm a huge Star Wars fan but these posters are fucking lame.
-
will be the next in the installments.
-
Don't get me wrong, that is cool and all, but methinks any graphic design grad student with Photoshop or Illustrator could've plopped this one out. Just sayin.
-
At how this piece conveys the frustration, depression, and ramshackle appearance of life on a desert world with two stars. This, Tusken Raider, this prolific monstrosity of utilitarian virtuosity. A touching and discerning piece that grabs at the heartstrings the likes of which hasn't been seen or felt since the times of EQ3 or Gayla Riemann. Truly a feast for the eyes of any downtrodden soul lucky enough to have this rare print to hang upon the walls of your dusty stucco hole in the world. Tatooine impressionism at its finest.
-
Than that last turd.
-
Some of the greatest artists in the world have sold prints of their own work. Also, calling it a "print" doesn't make it low quality. The word you're looking for there is "poster". Lastly, it's the limited quantities that make it collectible, not the cost. Watch how quick it sells out and then try. People clearly want stuff like this.
-
Cool poster. These guys are pretty awesome.
-
Oh, you'd buy anything with Star Wars on it, wouldn't you?
-
...still have Human Centipede prints left. People are like, "mmmm, nah - not sure I want to have to explain that one". Wish I hadn't missed the Pryor print, though. Might have grabbed one of those.
-
and some of them are downright UGLY
-
If you 'unwrap' a Tusken Raider you'll find an uber militant muslim woman inside.<p> Bitches took the Bhurka to the NEXT level.<p> Trivia point: that's why they're called 'Sand People' not 'Sand Men'.
-
on Hallowe'en, going as a Tusken Raider.
-
...and just go to show that a fool and his money are easily parted.
-
This one looks like something out of SILENT HILL.
-
Is there any backstory available? Why are they wrapped up? What's up with the tech bits? There kids all have to be mummified up as well? Goddam, they must smell.
-
OMG that is the goofiest drawing of a Tusken Raider I have ever seen.
-
most of there posters follow the formula: let's cram all the standard headshots of all the characters into the design, vector trace them badly, lay it all out with no regards to composition, and get rich. (see the robocop, bladerunner etc posters) Well, less is more. But these star wars ones are still pretty hideous If you want some classy movie poster redesigns, check mine out for sale (cheap!) at my imagekind store. I've got PREDATOR, BIG TROUBLE in LITTLE CHINA, ROBOCOP, LABYRINTH and more, with more coming out soon. http://tinyurl.com/omjkgn
-
for some classy retro poster redesigns that actually look good on a wall, check out mine at http://tinyurl.com/omjkgn. James hong (Lo Pan) even bought a Big Trouble in Little China one- no lie.
-
Cool, I like the Teen Wolf one. Just curious, how are all these posters selling overall?
-
You don't get in trouble for making posters of movies you don't have the rights to? Or did you get some kind of license somehow? I just don't see how these studios don't crack down on someone profiting off their properties... (not that I'd want them too)
-
this is the first time i've really tried to advertise virally (i find it annoying as a consumer, and hate to do it). every now and then a design or 'hip' home decor site picks up on them, blogs them and sales go through the roof, then fade a little. I'd say sales have grown comfortably. People like the retro simplicity, apparently. Imagekind handles all of the printing and shipping.
-
the designs are safe within the rights of homage and parody. in a few cases all i am doing is using the title, and a very loose interpretation of a scene or character. In most cases i even use fictional foreign translations of the titles which pretty much keep me safe from everything.
-
Cool... I'm an illustrator who's just working on the portfolio for now, wary of the freelance world. Seems like a cool way to make something that could fit in the portfolio, and maybe sit back and have a few bucks stream in now and then.
-
after seeing mine, a friend started making DC superhero ones, using their symbols in the designs (i warned him not to)...and of course warners/DC made him take them down. they didn't ask for compensation though. and he had posted links to my designs as well, so i figure if warner brothers had a pursuable problem with mine i would have heard about it in the 4 months since then.
-
set up your shop, set your own rates, spread the word a bit, and they paypal you your share every month. It is a nice means of trickling in some extra money, to supplement eventually getting a real shop of merchandise.
-
with a license to do ANY star wars themed art you could imagine without restriction, it makes you realize these mondo prints are really, really unimpressive so far. let's hope they outsource an artist and can 'wow' us at some point.
-
i imagine they are saving a BOBA FETT design for last, knowing it will sell instantly. in fact, they probably only have to type the word 'BOBA FETT in his dusty turquoise color in the center of a white page for it to sell millions.
-
of the Star Wars Trilogy villains he did. they never pop up on ebay.
-
Zombot, your art is just fine but you don't need to put Mondo down to boost yourself up.<p> Wonder if you've seen EMPIRE magazine, each month they publish an 'alternate' movie poster by a graphic artist and so far they've all been very clever and impressive visually.<p> I did like your Terminator poster though, nice idea to use the 'time bubble' rather than the more obvious endoskeleton.
-
to say MONDO SUCKS. i just woke up, and on the wrong side of the bed, i guess....and then i see that Tusken Raider pic- and i'm like- WTF...Lucas licensed these? They are pretty crummy so far, that's all i'm really saying. I shouldn't have compared mine, i'm doing a different sort of thing, really.
-
It's not a bad image but it's way over-priced. Fuck Lucas and douche bags licensees looking to make a quick buck.
-
...and I will say this poster sucks. The body of the Tusken looks great but the protruding parts all look cartoony. <p> It really looks like someone took a cool image of The Mummy and added all the parts in Microsoft Paint. <p> Why is AICN always peddling Mondo's crap? Kickback anyone?
-
See if you can get in on that action. You're posters are great. I love the predator one, how Arnie's knife is balanced against ole preddy's claw. Nice job.
-
This one, not so much...
-
Not so much. I'm really not that impressed with these posters.
-
... have been the sort of thing that I'd expect to see on some dude's fun/funky art site but paying BIG cash for either of these? You gotta be shittin' me... But then, nerds and their disposable incomes are a FORCE to be reckoned with.

Zombot: you should reply to some emails
by CRISPIN_GLOVERS_ACID_FLASHBACK
For chrissakes if you've got time to talkback then you should be able to respond to email inquiries. I really want to get my hands on your "Pyramid scheme" design, preferably on a shirt.

Good or bad artwork, I just cannot get excited about Star Wars anymore. I used to enjoy it so much. And realizing that makes me sad.<p> As for the Sand People, I'm surprised Lucas didn't completely ruin them in the prequels by showing how some third-tier character in the cantina wrapped himself in bandages, and headed out into the desert. Or some such lame shit.<p> He also left the Jawas alone, so I guess that's another gold star.
-
"Is Mondo not allowed to do major characters?"<p><p> Possibly, but a more fitting explanation would be that they'd rather focus on obscure, less-popular subject matter to appeal to the Star Wars fan who will make themselves feel important by saying "Oh, a GONK, I TOTALLY know what that is!!!! I MUST HAVE THIS".<p><p>As I said about the last one, this looks like nothing more than what you'd see on some teenager's DeviantArt page. That's not to say that it has to be super technical and realistic to be considered "good", but the piece itself at least has to be inspired, original, and visually appealing given the huge volume of Star Wars material out there. If you're gonna go out on the limb by releasing something and charging so much for it, you'd better be bringing something conceptually new and interesting to the table. Which these do not, by any stretch of the imagination.
-
Who really buys these pieces of crap artwork? Ugh...
-
ha. You're speaking of only one particular artist's style Mondo uses, not all. Your posters don't hold a candle to Mondos! I almost busted out laughing when I read your statement then saw the work.
-
Swear to fuck by the time I filled out the registration form it was sold out! Sonuva bitch!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like used toilet paper with a Sandperson drawn on it
by BurnHollywood
But then again, Lucas could have the STAR WARS logo put on his own used TP and it would sell out the first 350 wads to the plastic lightsaber crowd, so there you go...
-
The ALIEN derelict poster is outstanding, and the "Saul Bass MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM" THING poster is pretty nifty, too.<p> Definitely ahead of Mondo and this SW stuff they're peddling.
-
i think its obvious what you should be doing
-
for Star Wars Celebration V. Now THAT is art. There is one great print of Boba Fett watching the crew disembark from the Falcon at Cloud City that's miles beyond this print of some character that had 2 minutes of screen time.
-
I sugest the next one be of the emp snorting coke off of vaders dome while vaders is putting the stones to leia as she lays over the floating carbo frozen han, blowing chewy and sucking off lando, with c3p0 in the net dropped on the floor with r2d2 pissing oil into his mouth, and it's all a thought bubble in lukes head as yoda take him from behind on dagobah while ghost obi wan observes, while wackin it.
-
damn she cant suck off a wookie and a black man at the same time.
-
They need to do something fresh, new and unexpected. I mean, do we really need yet another gonk droid and tusken raider? Enough already! Give us something totally original and unique like Vader holding a lightsaber, or Han Solo firing his pistol up in the air or maybe Boba Fett or Slave Leia. You know, obscure stuff we've never seen before that really inspires the artists to explore underexposed characters.
-
What the heck is that drawing? It looks like Fozzie Bear.
-
That Tusken raider didn't pump his arms enough times for George, did he? So he reversed the film and had it pump once more for effect. Looked awful and out of place. I don't even recall if he "fixed" it in the special editions.
-
... a new HOPE
-
I hope we get Luke holding a lighstaber in the air in his tatooine clothes, he was one of those creatures in the background for like 1 second and i really liked how he looked.
-
I remember this pic on an old trading card from the 70's.
-
http://tinyurl.com/248kyts
-
They should have gone with another of the Tusken raider's OTHER , varied and diverse facial expressions and poses in close up.
-
Face it, Star Wars has been ruined. How many more times can we rehash these tired characters. Star Wars got ghey the second the opening credits stopped rolling in Phantom Menace. Not even Revenge of the Sith, a good movie, could make Star Wars cool again.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oi2iog_XFAE
-
Phantom Menace never had opening credits. Go watch the movies before commenting on them.
-
As if it started off as a famous Wookie but due to errors that could not be erased, a superimposed Tuskan Raider became the fixed art.
-
DC should be backing up brinks truck up to your garage to do some Batman stuff.
-
but I really wouldn't want one on my wall.
-
C'MON........AICN hook a fat guy up with a freebee when that baby comes out!
-
... of a character that would pop up in The Venture Brothers ???
-
I will say that. This one really does look like it has Syndrome of a Down.
-
i've done a dark knight retro/foreign design, but haven't put it up for sale since warner/DC went after a guy i know who was doing DC themed posters. so it's just one for the portfolio now. :/
