MEDIA ALERT

RICHARD DREYFUSS ROLLS INTO “WEEDS”

Oscar Winner to Guest Star in Four Episodes of
Season Six, Premiering August 16th at 10pm PT/ET

LOS ANGELES, CA – (July 7, 2010) – Jaws…Close Encounters of the Third Kind…American Graffiti…The Goodbye Girl…he’s earned acclaim worldwide for his work in some of Hollywood’s highest-grossing, all-time favorite and critically adored films, but Oscar® winner Richard Dreyfuss is returning briefly to series television, guest starring in at least four episodes of SHOWTIME’s hit comedy series WEEDS, premiering August 16th at 10pm PT/ET. Dreyfuss will play an unexpected character from Nancy Botwin’s past. The role will mark Dreyfuss’ return to SHOWTIME: in 2002, he was nominated for a SAG® award for his work as Alexander Haig in the network’s docudrama “The Day Reagan Was Shot.”

This season, Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker in her Golden Globe® Award-winning performance) and family are now on the lam after Shane (Alexander Gould) bopped Mexican VIP Pilar to death with a croquet mallet. To elude the Mexican FBI, police and mafia, they grab what they can, toss their cell phones and IDs and hit the road. Previously announced guest stars include Linda Hamilton, Peter Stormare, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, as well as returning guest stars Alanis Morissette and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

In his nearly five-decade career, Richard Dreyfuss has made his indelible mark in countless films. In 1978, he earned Oscar® and Golden Globe® awards for his star-turn opposite Marsha Mason in The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated again for both awards in 1996 for Mr. Holland’s Opus. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe® for his work in the cult classic American Graffiti. While Dreyfuss began his career in television, often bringing unforgettable performances in episodes of beloved series, in 2001, he headlined the CBS drama “The Education of Max Bickford,” a role that garnered him a SAG® nomination. He also starred in the 2007 Sci-Fi original mini-series “Tin Man.” Additional film credits include Down & Out in Beverly Hills, Tin Men, W and last year’s The Lightkeeper.

I really like the show but it's been changing it's mission statement the last couple of seasons and I would prefer it goes out on a high note (pun intended) than over extend it's welcome.

And this IS the last season of the show. I don't know, I LOVED the tonal shift in season four, and was really into the cliffhangers they were giving us, unfortunately, season five didn't take advantage of what they had as well as they could have.

Dexter S4 hit blu ray August 17, and is amazing thanks in no small part to John Lithgow. S5 I think starts in September with Julia Stiles and Angelina hubby #1, Jhonny Lee Miller. FUCKING LOVE DEXTER! used to love Weeds, and will watch S6 out of obligation. But the move to Mexico and disappearance of Conrad and Heylia hurt the show in a way it has never fully recovered.

looked so much better when her hair was curly, though. Still love her, but the straightened hair has never looked right to me. Guess I'm stuck on Elaine. smokingrobot, where did you get that Richard Dreyfus was that kind of person? I don't know him personally, but he always came across as a nice person.

    Dreyfuss is way overrated

    by pilgrim64

After watching him since American Graffitti, he's had maybe 4 good performances and 2 were because he had Spielberg directing him. Everything else has been mediocre.

if Dreyfus plays off the "smug, self-satisfied, conceited condescending prick" thing, it could be very funny, like he did in "What About Bob?"

I can come up with more than 4 good ones from R Dreyfus right off the top of my head: Close Encounters The Goodbye Girl American Grafitti Jaws Mr. Holland's Opus his Cheney in W. was good Catch-22 Down and Out In Beverly Hills What About Bob that's just from memory - I'm sure an imdb search could come up with a few more - but he's definitely not overrated

    by big jim

and either through flashbacks or time-travel (hey, that happens on TV islands, you know) they encounter Alfred Dreyfus.I love Let it Ride. It's a very cute, funny movie. I believe it was Jennifer Tilly in that outfit that made me truly appreciate the miracle that is the mini-dress.

    by mjgtexas

I remember he was asked that if doing Max Bickford is a result of ageism in film, and he replied that if he had no problem taking parts at 29 then he couldn't complain about not getting good parts at 49.........I just remembered Once Around. Man had quite the great comedic run from 86 to 91.

    I loved this show.

    by paragoncomplex

But it's changed too much. It was somewhat believable back before she got involved with the Mexican Mafia. Then that happened, she got pregnant, Shane killed a bitch, and it's like the people who first wrote the show disappeared and new people came along. It kind of reminds me of the tonal shift in Lost, but Lost actually worked. You think you're watching one show, and then some retardation happens to change everything. It's a shame. I'm looking forward to the next season, but they have to do something about this idiocy.

    by aka_gern_blanston

suffered TREMENDOUSLY from the move from Agrestic and the loss of Conrad and Heylia. And since the Mexican move, Councilman Doug's character has got the shaft, and that's sad because Kevin Nealon is one funny fucker when he wants to be.

    by flexfill

Sonia Braga and Raul Julia are fucking perfect in that, and Dreyfuss has always had good comic timing as can be seen in Down And Out In Beverly Hills among others. And Jennifer Tilly was sublime in Let It Ride. She joined him again on The Crew.

Lots of interesting stories about Dreyfuss

    by flexfill

in Carl Gottlieb's The JAWS log, about the making of the movie. Written by the writer/actor who played Amity's newspaper editor in the film and wrote the final draft of the screenplay. Dreyfuss was a little devil. Always liked his work.

that at least 20% of the time I spent onscreen would have to be with my nose buried 2 inches up Mary Louise Parker's ass. The 80% would involve me motorboating her hot nearly-50 tits. She's pretty much at the top of the 45+ list.

    by nocalflicks

I agree with others on here, after Seasons 4 & 5, I am definately thinking this show was toast after the move from agrestic.

The mexican mafia stuff was just too over the top and the problem now is there is really no going back from here.

    by strykebr

They really just got rid of the three black dealers who were MAIN characthers like nothing....S4 was a joke, S5 was a little bit better (thanks to Nealons characther) but I have little to no expectations for the show that doesn't live up to its name @ all anymore....Yes I would've been content on the show never expanding this whole Mexican Cartel angle

    If anything he's underrated

    by paulloch

the competition, Who's life is it anyway?, Nuts, Duddy Kravitz, the American President. If you ask most he doesn't get on the top 20 list of best actors the past 40 years yet he's great in drama and comedy, and has a unique, distinct to him screen persona. Weeds should watch any episode of Breaking Bad, and just give up, cause BB beats the meandering weeds in every way except Milf nudity.

    by ennio

They jumped the shark twice, second time being last season when slamming Nealon's johnson in a drawer was played for laughs. But it was abysmal before that. Albert Brooks' character came and went last year without any purpose.

Season 2 was outstanding, but since it's been a slow, than RAPID decline.

Louise Parker is still hot though.
