Via GhibliWiki The final trailer Arrietty: The Borrower, adapted from Mary Norton's novel. The Hiromasa Yonebayashi directed Ghibli movie opens in Japanese theatres July 17. Though Ghibli's internationally renowned cofounder Hayao Miyazaki is seldom quoted talking up the studio's films, he has been for Arrietty; telling his staff it moved him to tears and calling Yonebayashi "the first director born and raised at Studio Ghibli." Producer/Ghibli CEO Toshio Suzuki has said "Arrietty is the character whom the present age needs like Nausicaa [the almost messianic heroine of Miyazaki's Nausicaa: of the Valley of the Wind] who saved the earth which was damaged by natural destruction." Suzuki also recently revealed that Yonebayashi was the model for Kaonashi (No Face) in Spirited Away. Buzz on the movie has been really good. Some who have seen it are saying that it could be a strong contender if it makes it into competition at the Venice International Film Festival.

And, in a non-Ghibli note, Toei's 3D CG footage of Captain Harlock demo footage from Tokyo Anime Fair has finally made it online.

    Remember "The Littles"?

    by The Dreaded Rear Admiral

I loved that 80s cartoon! This reminds me SO MUCH of that show. The little folks behind the walls. The use of big items to make Little lives easier. This is certainly worth a look! Oh, and in keeping with tradition: FIRST!

    Love Harlock...

    by Red Ned Lynch

...Arcadia of my Youth was what originally drew me to anime. And I'll surely watch this but I'm not in love with what I'm seeing in the trailer. <p> Arrietty, is, of course, a must see and must see as soon as possible.

@The_Dreaded_Rear_Admiral I hope it reminds you of 'The Littles' because this movie and that series are both based off the book 'The Borrowers'

    You Ain't Kidding, SW!

    by The Dreaded Rear Admiral

I was in my teens in the 80's, but I knew what I liked! I'd say the style of the show introduced me to anime. That, and the idea of little folks running around in my walls! It just appealed to me. I'm guessing the writer of the book series "The Littles" (dude named Peterson) was inspired or "borrowed" the idea from "The Borrowers". Still, a great show was a great show.

My favorite episode of "The Littles"...

    by TheGhostWhoLurks

The one where a little girl's mom gets hooked on drugs and the kid doesn't understand why her mom's acting "different" and keeps locking herself in the bathroom! Seriously. It was a pretty wacked-out children's cartoon... :)
