APPRENTICE Gets The ER Slot This Autumn!!

Published at:  Jul 02, 2010 1:07:38 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

NBC’s 10 p.m. Thursday slot -- occupied from 1981 to 2009 by “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law” and “ER” -- is this autumn going to host the first non-celebrity edition of “The Apprentice” since 2007.

“Apprentice” is filling the fall slot originally earmarked for the hourlong semi-anthology comedy “Love Bites,” which is replacing showrunner Cindy Chupack and adding Greg Grunberg (“Heroes”) and Constance Zimmer (“Boston Legal”) to its regular cast. “Bites” is now likely to bow at midseason.

The Mark Burnett competition series started on Thursdays back in 2004, inheriting the 9 p.m. slot vacated by “Seinfeld” six years earlier. It was booted off Thursdays in 2006 to make room for the Thursday edition of “Deal Or No Deal.” “The Office” took over the slot in fall 2007, where it grew into NBC’s top scripted series. “Celebrity Apprentice” has long roosted on Sunday in a slot filled in the fall by football.

How this coming fall looks now:

Though “Celebrity Apprentice” has been employing a 2-hour weekly format, I guess the regular “Apprentice” will return to its hourlong roots.

NBC isn't to smart with that lineup.

    by cc0n99

They already saw what happened when they moved SVU to 9pm during the Leno fiasco last year. They move it back to 10pm and almost double the ratings. So obviously their brightest minds would move it back to 9pm against uber popular Criminal Minds and Modern Family.

    by koolerthanjesus

Good bye network television. There's only two shows on that whole lineup I have any interest in at all and I am fine if I miss both of them. I'll watch House because Hugh Laurie is always good and the Office just to see what they do with Michael his final season.

in there somewhere. Just when they were rolling with their best cast in years. They deserved to have a proper send-off. I hope at the very least, if TNT doesn't pick it up, they do a two hour special movie to say good-bye to some of their characters, past and present...

I had to read everybody's post over and over and still could not figure out what the fuck this guy is trying to make money off... all i can understand is that he wants us to invest in something, yet I have no idea what it is for... that was the worst sales pitch in the history of ever. It reminds me of that episode of 30 rock with Steve Martin where they show the ad for his company "Sunstream" which says absoulutely nothing about the company.

    by orionsangels

  • Jul 04, 2010 1:50:42 PM CDT

    Late last year...

    by weylandyutani

I stopped subscribing to cable... something I never EVER thought I'd do. And that is not to say that TV is all bad. While there is a ton of reality garbage out there, there is certainly a lot of great stuff too. Over the last decade alone: Deadwood, Mad Men, West Wing, BSG, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Sopranos, Generation Kill, Treme, Wire etc etc. All fine examples of the medium.

The thing is, I just download anything I want to see. News, I stream right from the network site. Sports? UStream is good enough, or better yet, I walk over to my local pub - it is more fun to watch sports with a crowd anyway. So while you have to have a little patience to download content, especially anything HD, I find it better than surfing through channels of useless content (remember when A&E and TLC actually had interesting programming). Like the video phone, the 500 channel cable universe has never worked very well... and like Skype, torrenting or iTunes or Netflix is a better option. Sure I buy a Blu Ray/DVD of something I really think is outstanding now and then, but even that is far less frequent these days with external storage being what it is.

My point is, NBC and the other networks for that matter, are far behind the times. They are working from a business model that is a dinosaur and they are having a very hard time working out how to bring content to the consumer in new and innovative ways. The only show I watch from NBC is 30 Rock, so why would I need 24/7 access to that network for one TV half hour (22 minute) series that is on once a week for 23 weeks of the year? Answer: I don't.

for any trolls out there, don't get on my ass by saying "I am the problem and I am killing TV." The fact is, TV killed itself by not adapting to a changing media culture. Smarter more agile companies are taking their place.

Watching TV online cant replace actual TV

    by rplocke

Because who wants to rely on shitty flash player and youtube to watch shows? Or even fucking itunes?

    Reply to Talkback

    Flash sucks no doubt...

    by weylandyutani

but HTML 5 is a likely contender to replace Flash... and you don't use flash to download content.

The biggest obstacles I have right now are:

    1. Storage. But as drives get bigger, this is less of a problem. And I toss mot stuff after I watch it. I'll buy the Blu Ray a few months later if I really liked it.

    2. Download time. It is getting better slowly, but most of the time it takes anywhere from 15-40 minutes to download 1 hour of HD content.

So with a little technical understanding, one can do without cable and enjoy your media quite comfortably.

I was the last person who thought this is the way to go... I remember having a conversation at the TV network I worked at and one of the guys in the Feed/Play department was pontificating about how "Downloading is the way it will be in the near future." I thought he was full of shit...

He was right, and as imperfect as it is now, where you can still flick on your TV for instant access, downloading is only getting faster, less expensive and easier. The days of having a date with your TV to watch The Simpsons (even on your PVR) are numbered. Like the US automakers, TV networks being resistant to change is causing them to lose market share.

I think Congress needs to pass...

    by jaylenotookmyjob

...A "Truth In TV Show Titles" law. Examples: Keeping Up with the Kardashians would be retitled, "Fat, Spoiled Armenian Whores". Pawn Stars would become, "Douchebags Buying Crap from Meth-heads". American Pickers is retitled, "Rednecks With Trash In Their Yards". Ice Road Truckers rebrands as "Why Buy a Plane When We Can Find Some Dumb Hillbillies to Truck It In?" Chelsea Lately becomes, "Trophy Wife Gets A Talk Show". Jersey Shore = "Everybody Hates Guidos". Think I'll start a petition!
