I am – Hercules!! While working the red carpet Sunday night for “Despicable Me,” Steve Carell told an E! correspondent that next season will indeed be his last as Dunder Mifflin regional manager Michael Scott. From Wanda Two Saints:

"I just think it's time," Steve told our Kristina Guerrero. "I want to fulfill my contract. When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go."

Carell also contends Scott will be little missed:

“They've incorporated so many new characters and so many new, great storylines that I have no doubt it'll continue as strong if not stronger than ever."

Carell and NBC execs have allowed in recent months that his departure after next season is a possibility. NBC execs have indicated they're likely to continue "The Office," NBC's top-rated scripted show, whether Carell leaves or not.
