Want to help make MY SUCKY TEEN ROMANCE, the new feature by Teen Directing Sensation, Emily Hagins?!?!?
Hey folks, Harry here with something that's more about reaching out to the community out there that embraces the very notion of a kid making a movie. I try to stay as much out of Emily Hagins' way as possible, just because early on when she was first making films as like a 9 year old, she would ask me for advice and I gave it to her. Telling her what types of things to watch, to try to shoot and very quickly I discovered that she was on the path to discovering a very unique and particularly "Teen" outlook and literally the last thing in the world I wanted to do was interfere. It has been amazing watching her develop, being a guest at conventions, film festivals, the subject of a film documentary... ya know... Lil Emily is getting all grown up and this is her last film to be shot whilst still being a High School girl. And she's calling it, MY SUCKY TEEN ROMANCE.... and... well, here's her pitch:
My Sucky Video Pitch from Emily Hagins on Vimeo.
Now, Emily is a bit modest - but if you do a search on her, you'll find that this is a young girl that really has had a fascinating story thus far. I know I plan to watch and cover everything she does simply because... well, she's amongst the coolest people I have come across. To contribute, go to: IndieGoGo.Com where she's attempting to raise the enormous and towering $8,000 film budget. An obviously impossible amount. But surely... Go check out the incentives!

thanks Harry!!!
-
they're awesome sites to help people get shit done.
-
Fucking great...She is already learning the Hollywood game of ripping off other peoples ideas. Way to go!!
-
the website I mean, I feel like it must be full of scammers though no? I see movie projects that have nothing listed on them except for a story idea and a guy and they still have raised several thousands of dollars, what's the site's policing method that the people are using the money for what they say they are? Just curious really.

2 requirements for getting a movie made in Hollywood
by Darth Evil Dead
1. Teen Vampires 2. 3D !!!!!
-
or my Angels are gonna beat the shit outta you! Anyway, this sounds interesting. Tell me how it turns out.
-
No I don't.
-
I wonder why vampires would go to a convention? Why not use some original monsters? The vamp thing is done already
-
She seems like a nice person who has been working on digital films, and that is to commended. But, it's Twilight meets Galaxy Quest meets Lost Boys. Which means she'll sell the idea and make a kasquillion dollars.
-
You have to admire a teenager that is working her ass off to succeed in the film industry, unlike most of the people *here* who RIP into everyone in the film industry while doing absolutely nothing involving the film industry. It is easier to critique than to get your hands dirty with your own little film. Go Emily!
-
Mark Borchardt still needs your help. He still has to finish that first feature. PS: Good luck, Emily
-
I don't know anything about her, but I'll take your word for it...THAT SHE IS TALENTED, but actually, Harry, you should back her, in full. It's called talent development!!! Harry, you have a direct line to Robert Rodriguez, and now to Joss Whedon. If this girl is as good as you say, all of these guys should invest in her as executive producers, including yourself, and as mentors. If I had the money, I would give it to her.<BR><BR>Anyway, I am glad that you have given her this spotlight, it says a lot about you in a positive way!!! Good job!!!
-
From what she mentioned of it, it sounds like fun, and a great idea. She's a very charming girl.
-
She should just film a youtube video. She'll get more hits that way.

Kickstarter is run by women that hated my idea and turned me dow
by Mike_D
"We have no openings right now." Was the basic gist of it. My movie I wanted to get made was basically ripping into the whole teen-love-vampire genre that's popular right now. The person who turned me down was a woman. Go figure.

TOO OLD!
-
This site has proudly overused punctuation for over a decade now. Not every sentence needs to end with !!!!!!! Just saying.

I liked it better when it was called The Lost Boys
by Obnoxious_Username
Seems like a cool kid, but at least go with something more original. You'll have plenty of time to sell out later.
-
I like the idea and also like that Harry takes the time to shine the spotlight on someone who is just starting out that could really use the boost. I'm glad to help contribute. Now... when's the movie's release date?
-
She's reached 5% of her proposed budget already (in 4 hours). She's on her way!
-
It sounds a little corny. I mean she's only 17, so she obviously doesn't know a lot about film. She has a Land of the Lost movie poster. Why? But it sounds like an idea that a 17 year old girl would have. I can't see how 8 grand can be enough for the movie. I mean she needs to build a sci-fi convention set. So she needs to rent out a space and fill it with stuff you'd see at a convention and then get tons of extras. I just think it's not an idea that can be pulled off for so little. But hey, if she can do it, god bless her. I think 8 grand would be better used for a smaller movie like a teen drama or comedy. I also seriously doubt her screenplay is that good. I mean it takes years to work on your craft. But who knows. If she pulls this off, I would be very impressed.
-
Instant hit, *****'s, more money than she'll know what to do with. Plus Unicorns are back in style FINALLY, she should tackle that. Robot Unicorn Attack is only the beginning my friends.
-
I could write her a check now. But that would be unfair to all of the other up and coming young directors who don't get exposure on AICN. So out of principle, I won't.
-
Hollywood Shuffle was financed on a dozen credit cards. What happened to getting yourself into debt up to your eyeballs for your craft?

Too bad all us other filmmakers can't be friends with Harry
by alienindisguise
then we could get our stuff pimped on this site regardless of quality and/or originality.
-
There sure are some cynical fucks on this board. Stop whining and bitching. Either help her out or shut the fuck up. She's obviously more talented than you guys if she's got a career already at her young age.
-
What makes her different than any other inspiring moviemaker? Does she have talent? I have no idea. But I do know being a little white girl who wants to break into the big world of film makes great photo ops and press clippings.<br><br> The big endorsement of Harry, shouldn't really do anything but get her exposure on this site, so she can make her movie. $8000 won't be enough for what she needs to do, and we all know that. But don't worry, she'll get all the money she needs....trust me.<br><br> Cause there's nothing like a niche'.<br><br> Good luck little girl!
-
That's not the whole budget, just what she needs to complete her budget. <BR><BR>as for helping other filmmakers. You're kidding right? Cuz, AICN goes out of its way to help a shit ton of indie filmmakers. Not often with raising financing, but we've done that a few times. When Edgar Wright was making SHAUN OF THE DEAD and need extras for Zombies, we gave him a plug and a ton showed up - and we had no idea who he was at the time, SPACED never showed over here. We helped DONNIE DARKO get made, when Richard Kelly was a teacher. And I'll help any project that sounds cool to me, but that's a personal aesthetic.

-
it could help her rake in some serious doe.we all know hollywood is full of perverts, scumbags, degenerates, liars, theives, etc so why not whore your self out
-
It sounds like her parents have already put in the family savings for this film, maybe $30k and she needs $8k more. That's all very admirable, but maybe she should consider using that money and going to film school? Believe me, you'll be a totally new person at 21 compared to 17, and you'll have the knowledge and experience to decide if working in the "industry" is what you really want.
-
Did your dreams get crushed at a young age, so now you're so bitter that you must crush all others' dreams? Geez. Emily's great. Leave her the fuck alone. How many screenplays have you written, let alone actually produced? Why don't we help build someone up instead of cutting her down?
-
Would I rush out to see the flick? Probably not. But I give her mega props for going out there and trying to make the things that SHE'D want to watch. Especially 17, when most teenagers are goofing off and falling into rebellious and obnoxious patterns. </p> <p> Good on her for making her own luck, instead of bitching about films all day.
-
And if the answer is no, why not? You believe in this young woman's talent--you have some pull in the industry, so, given all that, it seems to be a perfect fit? When dealing with developing talent, it is best to sponsor them early before they become the toast of the town. This seems to be a perfect opportunity to make a wonderful discovery in this girl. Why not take the chance on her, and put your faith, and money, into her???!!!
-
she has probably learned a lot in her years, but as someone else pointed out, she has a land of the lost poster. more power to her for wanting to accomplish the dreams but she needs some original ideas if i'm going to back anything. new stuff has to be fresh and exciting, not 3 recycled ideas mixed together. I want to hear something that says, oh, that's never been done.
-
Did Joss Whedon direct this?
-
So I'm going to assume you didn't like Avatar or The Dark Knight, given that they were both films heavily inspired by other films?

500 should get a producer credit. Just saying is all. Best of luck though!! I bet the movie will be a blast to watch. And since when are spammers like kogogo allowed to keep spamming here?
-
All of a sudden lately the spammers have shown back up. Good to see them dealt with swiftly. And if everyone here went in 5 bucks, she'd have more than enough and some left over for marketing.
-
She seems like a sweetheart. Hope she realizes here dream.
-
My hope is she gets more than the amount she's looking for.
-
I just tried to donate $100, but the website keeps saying "invalid email address". There you go.
-
that's according to just about every interview with Richard Kelly I've ever seen/heard/read.
-
Because this is such an important and timely cause and it's great to support people who've paid their dues and suffered for their art and craft.
-
and this girl seems so creative. Hollywood needs more like her. She has my support.
-
to play a vampire. Always wanted a chance to get all goth on camera. I watched the demo reel and she has a good eye for shot composition for sure. A few scenes looked very professional. 8 grand isn't a lot of money though. Especially with the storyline she's pitching. tommy1138 on youtube
-
It's called "Shity Teen Vampire Movie in 3D". It stars the whole cast of Epic Movie and Meet the Spartins. The plot is I throw a bunch of shity pop culture characters at a wall, and I see what sticks. Now give me fucking money bitches!
-
While you guys are sitting on the internet making crappy comments about someone trying to actually accomplish more than being an internet troll, she'll be out there making her movie. Think about that; for every bitter comment you make, it only hurts your soul and makes you that much more of a failure at life. Meanwhile, Emily will be laughing all the way to success because she ignored your petty bullshit. Now you can sit there and have a moment of introspection on why people are willing to help someone like Emily, and not your bitter self.
-
Why don't we start the kid out on a budget of a few hundred dollars and save the bigger budgets of $8000 for people who are trying to actually make a living and are scraping by while trying to be a filmmaker, hmmm?
-
Word. <p> I myself try to find a nice balance between being a snarky talkbacker, and actually coming up with scripts that one day someone might purchase. </p> <p> Seeing a teenager like this making a stab at becoming a full-blown filmmaker warms my heart and makes me think the internet will have a long-lasting effect for prospective writers and directors.
-
Huh? <p> Harry KNOWS this kid. She's made a few pieces. He's clearly seen them and dug them. So he's receptive to promoting her because, to him, she's a proven entity of someone who WILL get it done if she receives the financing. </p> <p> I'm sure if someone else could show Harry the same drive, he'd promote them. It's just that I don't see any other talkbackers making a stab of it. And besides, it's not like getting your name on AICN automatically makes you a star. They reviewed an issue of a webcomic I wrote, and I'm not exactly lining my pockets with cash. Best it does is give you a start, and you have to keep the momentum up yourself.
-
we all know women can't direct worth shit, they need to stay in the kitchen and leave movies up to men, no one wants to see the vision of a woman story teller

I miss those days

I'm sure Harry meets indie filmmakers all the time, but I've never seen him promote their search for funding before. Sure he knows the girl, that's fine, I don't care. But I'm struggling to make money for myself and to fund my own movies. I find the idea of people giving a teenager $8000 to make a movie troubling. She doesn't need that much money. She doesn't have to provide for herself. Yes I'm totally and completely jealous. But again, give her a budget that's a few hundred dollars. Her parents can pay for that. I'd rather see pple give money to a filmmaker who is struggling to make it rather than a teenager who is doing it for fun and hoping it becomes a career later. There is nothing on the line for her, know what I mean?
-
her production company made it, hence why she's a producer and probably why she has that small role.
-
Remember when I told you that breaking into Hollywood is more to do with who you know and rather what you know, and you didn't believe me? I don't think Emily Hudgens is a prodigy. She's a girl in love with movies, but they're are a million like her. But you know what? I wouldn't be surprised if she broke into Hollywood because Harry is giving her his backing and he'll recommend her - and he's well connected. And I have no doubt that you probably have more to offer than Hugins, but you may never make it if you don't know the right influential people. That's how the game works, my friend.
-
I'm standing on a set in 98 degree weather and reading about how a teenage girl wants $8000 to make a movie. And that's just to FINISH the budget. And I don't think teenage filmmakers need large budgets. They need to start small and struggle. They need to learn through trial and error. I'm not one to stifle creativity, but I think she and her talent would be better served by a $500 movie, and that's still more than I ever had. <p> Of course I'm jealous. I watch pple bust their ass and struggle everyday. She wants $8000 more. And she'll probably get it. Why? Because she's a teenage girl. It's great PR. I'm a 20-something white boy who wants to make a movie. I'm a dime of dozen. <p> And don't be ridiculous BP. Everyone knows it's who you know, but that's not all. I never said I didn't believe you. I think you misunderstood what I was saying last time.
-
That might have something to do with it, but this is her THIRD feature length film, on top of a slew of short films and music videos she's directed. She started when she was 11 years old. She has a documentary that's about her called Zombie Girl. I'm pretty sure that means something more than a teenage white girl wants to make a movie. Your bitterness is not becoming, sir. You're embarrassing yourself.
-
I remember the stories. You need to note I'm not disparaging her. More power to her. I just find the situation a bit unfair. Like I said, I'm jealous. And you can't deny the fact that she is a teenage girl will has a large effect on this outcome. There are tons of pple with the same credits you just mentioned. The difference is, those pple have to struggle a lot more than her to get the jobs done and to make money to live. <p> So I disagree with you entirely, Sir Kraken. My "bitterness" (I was being partially faceitious earlier) would be embarassing only if I was shitting on her ideas too.
-
I'm kind of in awe of all the negativity on here, even for a talkback. She ought to be some kind of adolescent fanboy goddess. Instead, I guess out of jealousy, most of the fanboys talk crap. Unbelievable. If I were in high school, she'd be my dream girl. Hope she raises the money and triples the investment.
-
and get him to plug my shit cause my budget is severely limited and its kind of a bitch to assemble a cast and crew in connecticut
-
Sorry, I may have misunderstood you last time. Like you, I have worked in Hollywood (I decided to get out while I still had my sanity). I wish you the best of luck.
-
Glad you still have your sanity.
-
...sounds like it belong here: http://tinyurl.com/36s3wjp
-
I'd promote you the same I'm promoting her, if you were looking for donations. Have faith, dude.
-
Saying shes one of the coolest people youve "come" across ;) what would the missus say?:) Ps nice to see you promoting a spoiled middle class rich kid is there any lower income filmakers in Austin Hmmm?
-
That makes me feel better. It's an interesting site she's using there. I think I've seen it, or one like it, only once before. I really should check it out.
-
Go for it, dude. <p> I myself started a petition up to put myself in contention to write the next Daredevil film. </p> <p> Yeah, it didn't work... but out of the box thinking does help you get some of the way to reaching your goals online. Even if some people just bitch, instead of getting off their fat asses and making their own luck.
-
using Star Wars figures.
-
...in this situation or any situation really and that its probably actually good for people like d.vader and any other people who are trying to create their own projects, because it'll just be another driving force to help keep them focused. Having said that....it could also lead to d.vader hanging himself in his closet....so....
-
True to an extent. But I can't get angry at someone for getting a break like this. <p> I'd snatch it up in a second if it was offered to me.
-
...its ridiculous to get angry about other people getting a break, but I think if you're the type of person who needs motivation to stay focused and on track then jealousy can be a really useful motivating tool. You just cant let it make you sick is all....

You guys heard of aq film called Colin?
by BP_drills_america_a_new_asshole
It was made by a British guy for (allegedly) about $100. It found a distributor, got a limited release in the UK. So it makes me chuckle that this kid needs $8K to FINISH her budget. If I were her mom and pop I'd say "Honey, here's $300 and a dv camera, go knock yourself out".
-
I've seen Colin. <p> It's a very, very good zombie film. And the guys who made it are jolly nice chaps. </p> <p> Not sure you can compare them, though. Colin is a gritty flick which works BECAUSE of the budget. If they spent more money on it, it'd be too polished for what they were trying to do. </p> <p> The kid we're all discussing has more mainstream interest in film. So I'd imagine she wants to make something rather polished looking. Hence the budget.
-
The bitterness in these talk backs is proof enough why those shouting the loudest will never rise much above their ability to complain. Keep it up because people like Emily will continue to do what they love while the rest of you are destined to hate even more. It's great that there are people like Harry who will throw themselves behind new talent. They did it for me when I was her age and you pass it along...or you mire yourself in your own jealousy and bitterness. It's no one's choice but your own.
-
They did it for you? Care to explain.
-
But I think that's the problem. She has a mainstream interest in films, hence a bigger budget for something more polished. But I've worked in the industry for six years and dealt with pre and post production and getting the kind of results she's after costs easily a minimum of several hundred thousand dollars minimum - and trained professionals who are likely to charge $100 an hour (unless they give their services for free). $8k won't get her anywhere near the kind of results she's hoping for. That's why I think she is quite young and naïve. She thinks she can achieve something as polished as a Twilight but that's impossible. It's better to work with micro budgets and be super creative (like Chris Nolan did with Doodlebug and Following). That's what will get her noticed.
-
Is what I was trying to say. A smaller budget will serve her better.
-
While you make a valid point, if the internet was around properly when Nolan made Following I could see him very easily using the internet to raise extra money for the flick. </p> <p> Heck - this isn't much different from Raimi and co going to investors, or Smith racking up credit cards. The internet gives her an option to raise the budget she feels she needs. </p> <p> Not to mention how the whole 'being cautious' thing is what leads so many geeks to never attempt making a flick. Taking that leap is insane and it does require a certain naive attitude to do it... but everything worthwhile comes from risk, not sitting around and working out practicalities.
-
Emily has made two EXTREMELY low budget features, worked her butt off to get them made working with extremely dedicated and talented young people like herself to get them made and no-one got paid. She has made about 10 shorts and 4 music videos and 1 PSA commercial. She is absolutely driven. One of the hardest working people I have ever known. She spends an average of 2-3 years writing feature scripts. This script is original. It is not Lost Boys or Galaxy Quest. I'm not going to dis the haters...they are important and here's why...if you don't have the moxie to deal with haters, naysayers, and wade through the muck of hate, disappointments, obstacles, compromises, you do not have what it takes to be a filmmaker. Emily has done all that, and will continue to do that. Anyone who knows Emily knows her talent and hard work are exceptional and she is, as Harry says, pretty coolf. Those who don't know of her now, probably will someday. If you don't like her style or work then...fine. But it is the height of ignorance, IMO, to talk negatively about someone or something of whom you know nothing and it only reflects poorly on you. Thanks, Harry, for supporting Emily. She is very lucky to live in Austin that has one of best film communities in the world. And yes, I am Emily's mother so, of course, I am completely objective;)
-
Heh - if you really are her mother, you just stepped into the lions den. Kudos on the post!
-
You seem to have referred to one of my posts. I meant no offence to your daughter. I'm sure she is very talented and wish her all the best (if you look at my earlier posts you will see that I have not badmouthed her at all). Again, I wish her all the best.
-
....I actually have a job, and had to do that. But now I can respond.<br><br> Anyway, I'm not taking anything away from a focus and deadicated teenager, (lord knows we need more of them). My point is, is that she wouldn't be getting this spotlight if she wasn't a white, female 11 year old(back then) and now 17. I agree, with most of the people on this talkback relating to the opportunities she has because it. Again, I have no idea how talented she is (for a 17 year old) , or not. My point was that there are tons of more talented (real directors) who can't even get a cup of coffee, let alone a budget, cause they seem like everyone else from the outside, instead a niche'. Sure there are haters out there (I'm not one of them, cause I actually work in the industry) for one reason or another. I'm just pointing out the fact of why she's getting all this unnecessary attention.<br><br> My advice, go to film school, intern, work on a real set, make a movie and then you'll have the right to call yourself a filmmaker. Then you'll have a true chance. Instead of just being that cute little girl you started making movies at 11.
-
I was typing fast, but you get the point....I hope.
-
You're a tool.
-
is a true fucking douchebag. seriously. here is a fucking KID working her ass off to make a film. someone actually being productive and the same tried bored braindead bullshit gets thrown at her. what fucking cocksuckers. I notice most of the biggest douchebags have star wars related tag names. funny that. FUCK YOU.
-
the biggest cocksuckers on these boards always have darth or fett in their names.FACT.
-
Before you know it, there'll be constant updates on her.
-
as soon as I heard "vampires."
-
People can rag on non-kids (over 18, I assume) but god forbid people have a different opinion other than yours. And if they don't share what you think, they are douchebags. LOL, fuckin'funny. Thanks for making my original point more clear.<br><br> This "moviemaker" wants to be taken seriously, but we're suppose to still treat her like a kid? ok so which one is it? <br><br> And to rag on the "Darth" prefix, well I guess using a twist on a meat sandwich shows creativity as well.<br><br> oh, and FUCK YOU TOO!
-
I hope you weren't referring to me too were you?
-

She's really getting a lot of coverage... Harry should do PR work. <br> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emily_Hagins <br> http://www.cheesynuggets.com/

A guy shot this in 4 hours with *no* budget. <br> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYCQA2-0xn4 <br>
-
That Hugins got balls. She's got the drive. I hope she has the talent. Good luck to her. It's funny that Harry is taking credit for making Donnie Darko. When he reviewed the script he also reviewed a script by Moriorty without telling his readers he was his friend. Harry undermind Donnie Darko to pimp Mori's script called Amusements. Now DD is a cult classic and Amusements is in a drawer somewhere.
-
Keep it up!
-
Pretty impressive. Could have used some dialogue and acting work but damn, that short looked beautiful. Wonder what it was shot on.
-
In minutes. If we all went in 5 bucks she could make her next film. Maybe this kid is the next Penelope Spheeris or Allison Anders. And you could be a part of it.
-
what he teach? anyone know?
-
For what, one or two years? Didn't he make Darko in his mid 20s?
-
I swear he said somewhere in his comments that he shot it on the Canon XL2 in 24p mode. I agree... for no budget, etc. it looks pretty damn good. It goes to show... there's no excuse for ppl to sit around and whine about how they need cash for a short.

This is so fucking bad it's causing me discomfort

Harry, what is this garbage? And what the hell is it with teen girls and Vampires? "Oh God, I want a Metrosexual Guy to suck my blood". How come they never have vampires that are gritty, who look like Don Frye or Kimbo Slice?

GimpInMyPants I'm assuming you want to fuck her...
by GarysMidgetCorpse
because she's a teenybopper....because she sure isn't attractive...or even amusing. Good luck dominating that. See ya on the familywatchdog!

He'll get her a gig.

He might ask her to blow him, but he'll get her a gig.

Harry persuaded Hollywood bigshot JettL1993 about helping Kelly to write the script and find the right cast. Harry also fronted some of the budget.
-
Harry reviewed the Donnie Darko script and Moriorty's Amusement script in the same article and said Mori's was better. Harry also failed to mention Mori was a personal friend of his.
-
Was it about a guy who thought he knew what a surprise trailer was about, then realized he got it horribly, horrible wrong?
-
And it was Harry, i think, who reviewed the script and pretended like it wasn't Mori who wrote it. He may have even left out in his review that he knew the author.
-
That's pretty outrageous. On the one hand I can understand Harry doing that for a friend, but he should have owned up it was Mori's script. I'm sure AICN's credibility took a dive after that.

Or some website for your project? Economy's hit me kinda hard like most others, but would like to help a fellow dreamer if he is closer to his dreams than me. Other words, I'd rather help you than her, for very reasons you're jealous of her.
-
and say how her movie has the passion of Tennessee Williams.
-
This project sounds like it could be a lot of fun! Good luck with the production!

You can't tell me Peter Jackson knew a bunch of Hollywood bigshots while growing up in some tiny town in New Zealand. No, he busted his ass to make Bad Taste on weekends. Spielberg bluffed his way onto the Universal Pictures pay roll. Tarantino worked in a fucking video store till he was twenty seven. And that's just to name a few. And in these days - like it or not - of digital film and film festivals there is an entirely democratic way of breaking in to the movie industry. The only thing stopping people is perhaps a distinct lack of talent and drive. Just because you like movies, doesn't mean you can make them. I hate to break it to you, but there isn't some grand conspiracy keeping talented filmmakers out of Hollywood. If you tried and failed, well, that's a shame for you. But that doesn't give you any right to get all bitter and try and dissuade young filmmakers from having a go.

If being a meanspirited douchebag help keep the pangs of jealousy that tear at the fabric of your being every single day of your pathetic life then have it you fucking dick. and again its harrys site. he can put on here whatever the fuck he likes.

Do what this kid has done. Make showreels. Plan a budget. Ask for the budget. <p> Or just make a film with whatever you have. </p> <p> Don't judge someone for trying to make the film they want, then worship Smith for his credit card scheme... Tarantino for using Keitel to start his career... and Rodriguez for becoming a guinea pig to get funding.

What I find funny about you Sloppy Joe is that you try to write intellectually while also spooling obscenities. It shows two things. You don’t know what you’re talking about, and you use spell check very well. But overall, it makes YOU look like the “fuckin’ douchebag”.<br><br> Listen, you definitely don’t know me, just like I don’t know you. And I could never be jealous of a 17 year old girl, for whatever reason.<br><br> So don’t rag on people cause they don’t support this teenager like you do.

The examples you gave - Spielberg, Tarantino, Jackson- are all super talented individuals. OF COURSE sheer talent can break you in. But Hollywood isn't made purely out of uber talented individuals. There are hundreds of directors there and most of them have middling talent (believe me, I worked as a producer for six years and I KNOW how talentless and clueless a lot of the directors are). Those directors broke in by meeting the right people at the right time and getting recommended for jobs. Its crazy blind luck most of the time. If you have immense social networking skills and know how to talk bullshit and get away with it, chances are you will get a break even if you only have average talent.

Guys, Gals... In 2 days, y'all have raised $2,149.00. I would just really like to personally thank y'all. Emily is one helluva cool girl. She is not from a rich family, though she has an expensive passion. I'm really pulling for her. Anything y'all can do to help her is highly appreciated.
-
Actually - I had not so much as met Drew at that point. I also didn't even know Drew's last name at that point. A script arrived with Drew McWeeny & Scott Swan's names. At that point, I didn't know Scott at all. Those were EXTREMELY EARLY DAYS - And also - that wasn't the only mention of DONNIE DARKO, just the first.
-
I completely agree. I should have put, "It's not Always who you know."
-
but you are also desperately insecure. what a shock. I am not ragging on you because you don't support a teenager. I rag on you because you come across like a complete knob. thats all. well that and that you have darth in your name. trying to be intellectual? not really. If I was trying to be I probably wouldn't say things like "darth kaos is a mean spirited cocksucker who couldn't help himself but come on here and dump on this story because he is a fucking jealous knob "
-
ha ha ha ha you must be new here
-
I interviewed the director of Zombie Girl last year and he had nothing but great things to say about her. What I like best about her is that she still loves movies, even in the face of "failure" at times. She has so much more humility and passion than most directors do once they make it.
-
When people who work their WHOLE LIVES to get interest with ORIGINAL IDEAS get squat, no help, no financing, this site is endorsing the worst kind of manufactured youth-is-where-it's at-more-of-the-same pseudo Hollywood garbage. 'Nuff said.
-
She could win the show and then make her cheesy movie.
-
To Harry and everyone who donated because of this AICN article. Every little bit helps. <3
-
I have an indieGoGo page too.. going strong at $0.. http://tinyurl.com/2ufrxjf Can I also get promoted on the site? Pretty please? with Splenda on top? (wouldn't want to raise those blood sugars of a fellow diabetic..)
