‘I’m In No Mood For Lesbian Weirdness Tonight, Pam!!’ Herc’s Seen Sunday’s Return Of HBO’s TRUE BLOOD!!

Published at:  Jun 13, 2010 3:03:04 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

Notes on tonight’s premiere, borrowing heavily from Evil Mirror Herc:

* 3.1 gets off to a great start with a girl cursing in French: "For the love of God! Fucking vampires! It's always nothing but shit!"

* The one-hour premiere is teeming with incident, enough for two hours, or maybe three. I found the Vampire Queen plot the premiere’s most compelling. Least compelling? Tara’s acting out over her dearly departed Eggs.

* While season two pushed its characters west into Texas, season three sees them drifting in a more easterly direction.

* We learn what happened to lead vampire Bill Compton in the teaser.

* Graphic vampire nudity and fornication by minute 13.

* Big "What the fuck?" moment involving shapeshifter Sam at minute 21.

* The ubiquitous Zeljko Ivanek (Heroes, Damages, Big Love) returns as the Majister 31 minutes in.

* Hot recent NYU grads Missy and Jen stop by Merlotte's on their way to California.

* Who is the modern-day Van Helsing? We learn tonight what the Vampire Queen fears even more than the Magistrar.

* A decent line: "I am a freak of fucking nature!"

* The fangirls and gay fanboys will be excited to learn Eric and Jason get plenty naked in 3.1.

* The straighter fanboys will be excited to learn the NYU girls get naked too.

* How does it end, spoiler-boy? “I’ve fed!”

9 p.m. Sunday. HBO.

I just hope them "going public" is not gonna take as long as in the books. Knowing there are vampires is one thing, but knowing someone you knew your whole life is a were is really fucked up. The public knowing about the supernatural was always the best part of the series.

What a fucking joke. Its an enjoyable shawl but it's terribly written. It's a fucking campy soap opera with vampires. I watch it, but at least I have the sense to know it's not the best show on tv, because every fucking dick head on the planet who watches True Blood, and usually nothing else, thunks it's the best show ever put on tv. It's infuriating. Watch something else before making preposterous hyperbole.

True Blood is not the best written show on TV. For my money that is Justified. TB is a cool show, with Anna P's great rack on full display. I do wish we could start seeing some more action with the show...Give me a Vamp Vs Human, Werewolf, something war. I think this show needs more "Near Dark" and less "Desperate Housewives"

It's basically a gothic southern Dark Shadows with just the right amount of camp. I think Alan Ball really starting embracing that concept as the series moved forward. All in all, I still have a lot of fun watching it.

Season one was headed in some interesting directions, especially

    by homerofthesea

I get that the show has always had a melodramatic streak, but in the first season it was fun and entertaining. Season two, not so much. The sun-church storyline went on for too long and they didn’t know what to do with Jason. You could blame it on the books, but I’m pointing to Alan Ball. It seems like he doesn’t trust in his ability to keep a functional relationship interesting for more than one episode, and so he has to throw in ridiculous contrivances (Sookie disobeys Bill’s orders!) to generate a conflict (see: the entire Nate/Brenda relationship on “Six Feet Under”). Season three wish-list: that they either make some honest drama, or that they keep the melodrama entertaining. That the story adds something to the characters, instead of taking away (like, you know – my interest in the characters). Finally, I hope that they don’t make too much of the inevitable Sookie/Eric pairing, especially as it relates to Bill. I like the character Bill and I like the actor, but when they put him together with Paquin they waste his potential. He’s one of the few dignified characters on the show, but he doesn’t get to be that when he’s with Sookie. Here's hoping!

I was surprised at how hot her bod is..in the preview she is standing in front of the bed in next to nothing and she looks frackin great. Almost ripped heh. Still the redhead on this show rules. And Evan Woods was fine as the queen, the character calls for some over the top acting. I seen an interview with Ball and that was by design for whatever reason.

Proving to the Twilight crowd that you can make good vampire stories without making them all faggy. No, the writing isn't Shakespeare, but it's a Southern Gothic, it's not supposed to be. to the VikiMarsdale chick, if you don't like the show or HBO in general, why the fuck did you feel the need to come on this TB and comment? Makes you look like an ass, especially when you bitch that there's no TB for some ABC family tween show. Waaaay wrong demographic for this website.

    by aka_gern_blanston

Just finished revisiting Season 2 on blu ray last week, and, although I enjoyed it, I'm extremely glad going in to tonight's premiere that MaryAnn and Eggs are gone. The storyline wasn't as bad on blu ray just because you didn't have to sit through it for weeks on end, but the monkey orgies got redundant after awhile, and that's saying something when orgies attain redundancy. And I second, third, fourth, and fifth the motion for Jessica to show some nip nips. Absolutely stunning example of what a redhead can be when she's not inundated with freckles that make her look like one of those characters on Alien Nation. Deborah Ann Woll is absolutely stunning!

While I don't agree that the MaryAnn story took to long, it was the season long story after all, I find it curious that we spent the entire season on that story only to have it end 10 minutes into the finale. All this build up and then BAM the characters and situations moved on like the season never even happened.

Better than Lost. True Blood is not a good show at all. HBO has been lacking for years. All they've done in the past few years that's new and good was Taking Chance. Curb Your Enthusiasm has been good too, but we only get a new season every 2 years it seems, and a "season" is 10 episodes...never understood that.

Were just 'gay, gay, drugs, sex, sex, gay, drugs, sex, gay, gay, gay, sex, sex, drugs'. It got old. I swore off Alan Ball after that. Is this show just more of the same with vampires the usual thinly disguised metaphor for gays? That is so tired.

Sookie's character has devolved into a petulant foot-stamping weenie, Jason is still eating up screen time because Ball has a boner for the actor, Tara is even more screechy than last year, and Bill still bores me to death. The small doses of Eric, Pam, Lafayette and [surprisingly] the Queen of Louisiana did nothing to mitigate the total mess this series has become. Ball has left Charlaine Harris's narrative in the dust for a mish-mash of soap opera crap. Oh well.

I thought Hoyt's "Nice meeting y'all" towards the end of the episode was pretty funny.

Also really nice to see Bill going all bad-ass on his escape; including feeding off some nice old lady. Nice beginning to the season.

    by aka_gern_blanston

Game of Thrones looks promising. Not sure about Steve Buscemi as a crime lord, though. I loved the little bits with Jessica trying to figure out what to do with the body. Jason had some great lines, but yeah, it seemed like Sookie really wasn't given much to do except to complain on deaf ears that Bill was gone. Sam's Fangback Mountain dream threw me off for a sec, though. And I like Tara as a character, but if they drag out this craziness too long that may change. Decent start to the season, and I thought it was funny they had to put that little bit after the credits explaining why their werewolves look like...well...plain wolves, as if they knew people would question the decision.

Just perfect. I had forgotten how much I missed this show. Loved seeing a lot of Pam in this episode, hopefully a trend of things to come. The Queen played out much better this time around. The humor of the show is so spot on, if you get it, wonderful stuff. The show is Dracula meets John Waters.

    Define "good writing"

    by kesoze4

Does it mean that everything works both literally and as a metaphor for the human condition? Does it mean it simply makes you laugh? Does it mean that it's able to affect the viewers, get them worried about the characters, and occasionally shock them? Or is it simply that it's entertaining enough that you look forward to more of it? I'm not sure any of those things *don't* apply to True Blood. Is it The Wire? No. Is it fun as hell and appointment viewing? Yup. To this date I've never seen more grown men get more fired up on Facebook after an episode than after Godric's first appearance.

    by kesoze4

The vampire-running blur effect they lifted from Smallville still kinda sucks. The first-person Bill-running view they did last night worked better, but if the blur effect isn't working they need to avoid using it.

    by nice marmot

Damn, I think the red head is smokin' hot. They should have left the Sam/Bill gay moment a big WTF mystery instead of spelling out what caused it. One episode in and I'm sick of Tara. Don't necessarily want the pills to work, but maybe they can put her in a coma for a little while. Looks like they've reeled in the Queen's over the top acting. That scene where she pinned Eric against the wall in anger actually made me jump. Still havin' so much fun w/ this show.

Haha that made me jump, too. They're just talking and suddenly there is this unholy screech/howl and he's instantly against the wall with her hand on his neck. Did they ever establish when she was turned exactly? Erik is at least 1k years old...they've been going with the "older = more powerful" bit, although the Magister sounds like he is roughly from the Inquisition era, which means he may be younger then Erik.

    dream moment explained

    by alientoast

Remember last season where Erik was hit by the silver shrapnel and he asks Sookie to suck the metal out of the wound in his side to save his life, then Bill states that it was a trick just to get Sookie to drink some of his blood and he then explained that drinking a vampire's blood can cause them to have intense "feelings" for them and dreams, thus why Sookie started to have the odd Erik dreams. Because Sam drank Bill's blood to heal the sacrificial wound he sustained, he thus started to have dreams about Bill, which I'm sure deeply disturb him haha.

    My husband was relieved, LOL!

    by cathy904

My husband was very surprised and a little perturbed when the Bill/Sam scene happened last night. I called him this afternoon after someone else noted humans had erotic dreams after ingesting a lot of vampire blood as Sam did in the last episode of Season Two. Sookie had those dreams in Season One and Lafayette had those dreams in Season Two. Well, that was quite a laugh on us. And it helps explain how Bill meandered from Arkansas to Mississppi without realizing it, he was never in Arkansas. Bill asked for Sam's shirt, but didn't have it on when he crawled out of the ground. Bill politely fed on the elderly lady, then gave her money, glamouring her into thinking her son sent it. That seems a little more like the Bill I thought I knew. The laugh lines were a lot of fun. “I am sorry you fell in love with a serial killer, but really, who here hasn’t?” The French restaurant owner's string of profanity after finding out another vampire-rented evening has gone to sh*t. And of course the title for this review, "I'm in no mood for your lesbian wierdness, Pam!" LOL! And, whew!

Of course Bill/Sam was a big shocker. I should have realized at the time Bill wasn't wearing the shirt he'd 'asked for' when he came out of the ground. The show strives to shock. It's done that since the first episode. I hope they keep the "Post Mortem" snippets at the end, it was a nice downshift in tension. Alan Ball talking about the wolves on location after dark and having them howl in the background.

Probably more fun to watch the show with your brain off, something I'll have to work on...

    Bill/Sam Scene

    by mr. profit

Didn't bother me as most vampire stories have some homoerotic undertones. Look at Brad and Tom's relationship in "Interview With A Vampire". But either way Sam ingested a whole lot of Bill's blood as a way to heal after being stabbed with that huge ass blade during the ceremony last season. If Sookie only ingested a little of Eric's blood when sucking out the silver and she was drawn to him, I can only imagine the complications Sam will have since he had a whole lot more of Bill's blood. His face when he woke up was priceless. I am late to the "True Blood" party and have only started watching the show 3 weeks ago. I zipped through the DVD's to prepare for Sunday and I am glad I did. It's a fun show. Also, when the fuck did Ana Paquin get such a banging body? The scene from the season preview made me do a double take. She just needs to fix her teeth. And finally, the fact that they are using REAL wolves made me appreciate the show even more.

Sookie may be the heart of the show, and Eric gets plenty of attention, OMG that body in that smoking jacket and black pants, but Vampire Bill's love for humanity shown with the elderly woman is my favorite kind of vamp. Because he could still turn around and showed his dangerous side with the wolves. I'm looking forward to meeting Alcide and more discussion as the show takes off. :)

Tru-Blood, what a freaking great series. I was so pumped for this show when I attended last years True-Blood panel at SDCC with the whole cast!! They previewed season 3 there and while I am still making my way through season 2, I have read the books and am familiar with the plot, (which thank the gods Alan Ball is following with some liberty). What I *LOVE* about this show, besides the obvious male muscular nudity and thrusting bod-on-bod action, is that if you are a fan of the novels you can still enjoy the TV show in an entirely different way.
I hope Ball takes each novel and expands this show to a season 9, 10 & beyond.
