ScoreKeeper Announces (In Dramatic Slow-Motion) the Arrival of PLANET EARTH in Dallas, Texas!

Published at:  Jun 08, 2010 10:06:15 PM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here feeling a little green (environmentally and with envy) so I thought I'd shepherd Dallasians toward an upcoming concert event that film music enthusiasts will not want to miss.

It's not often I write about an upcoming film music event in Dallas, Texas, but when I was alerted to this one in particular, I thought it was way too cool to let slide. I've been a huge admirer of George Fenton's epic score for the BBC seres PLANET EARTH (2006) since it first introduced me to the series. On June 25th and 26th the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will be performing the score live to picture conducted by the composer himself, George Fenton.

Here's a little blurb about the upcoming concert...

Join the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for two ground-breaking nights as it presents the world premiere of Planet Earth Live. The BBC's highly acclaimed series on the natural history of the world is brought to life on the big screen, conducted by Emmy-winning composer George Fenton. The exhilarating High Definition footage of ocean depths, exotic deserts, rare creatures and the beauty of the earth is enhanced by the acoustical perfection of the Meyerson Symphony Center.

Planet Earth Live incorporates cinematography from the acclaimed series, including High Definition footage of the Great Plains, Antarctica, forests around the world, depths of the world's oceans and caves, jungles and more, matched note-for-note with the compositions of conductor George Fenton.

With the popularity of live concert performances to picture on the rise I'm hoping that more opportunities will develop for different scores to be heard.

Anybody plan on going? I'd love to hear about it.

I forwarded this link to the Dallas Observer blog, which will hopefully give a spiff, and will do our best to attend one of the performances.

er how does that casting announcement prove that X-Men first class will suck. To my knowledge their isn't a mutant called willow, but this is first class so presumably theirs going to be a whole bunch of mutants we haven't met before. It's also entirely possible, based on the description, that it might be mystique going under an alias. Also how is the fact that they are casting an 18-24 model hot women in a role that will require nudity a bad thing. The fact that the movie will suck has nothing to do with this casting call and everything to do with the fact that it's being made by fox.
