X-MEN: THE LAST STAND Vet Vinnie Jones To Play Deformed Supervillain On NBC’s CAPE!!
I am – Hercules!!
Vinnie Jones, who’s already played the supervillain Juggernaut in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” will play a reptilian criminal named Scales in NBC’s new post-“Heroes” superhero series “The Cape.”
This development reminds me of Ray Park, who played The Toad in "X-Men" before he appeared as a supervillain in the final season of "Heroes."
The new series, from writer Tom Wheeler (ABC’s 2005 Ancient Rome miniseries “Empire”), follows a non-superpowered fellow who assumes a new identity to fight crime.

There is such a thing as "too silly to live" and this is it.

That's all the post-modern comic book goodness that the world needs.

After watching the trailer for The Cape...
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
There's some amazing footage in there, but there's a lot of bad stuff to.
-
that has to be better than the cape
-
Take your pick. This show still looks like crap.
-
and it was promptly cancelled...
-
Vinnie Jones is without doubt the worst "actor" I've ever seen.
The only good performance I've ever seen from him was when he pretended to be a footballer.
-
...and it does not cease to be the most disappointing, rage-inspiring, piece of shit superhero movie ever made. Fuck it and all references to it existence.
-
for some reason.
-
Champion of the sun?
-
"you gotta pay the troll toll, if you want to get into this boy's soul"
-
But it's hard to have sexual chemistry between your two leads when one is pining for his wife who thinks he's dead. Writers, good luck with that.
-
the Manimal crossover.
-
the LOST finale!! ...Just kidding. ;)
-
Vinnie Jones is in the trailer you posted weeks ago after the upfronts. Why is this a story now? And this show can't be the first fall show cancelled because it doesn't start in the fall.
-
Man. I am so. Incredibly. Sorry for you.
-
Ray Park is a terrible, terrible actor. He makes a pile of fucking timber seem expressive.
But compared to Vinnie Jones, he's Lawrence bloody Olivier.

Seriously, that looks like it might be pretty good, and Batman has no super-powers, so why would it be so hard to make a Batman series with similar production values?
-
Just saw that trailer for the first time. Now that's more like what Heroes should have evolved into by season 2 and 3. Gradually becoming more traditional superheroes over time with costumes and all that. Instead of ya know, just constantly blathering at each other in random rooms about stuff nobody cares about.
-
...the same unconvincing scowling ponce he always does? Aye, thought so.
-
the character's face is too exposed: the one "news" shot of the character's face, a quick "brightness/contrast" pass in photoshop, and you have the character unmasked. Lame disguise.
-
... but he's not getting a lot of Guy Ritchie love lately.
-
So they're ripping of Batman in two ways... the Nolan-esque look of the thing, (Minus the Heroes-esque, stupid Circus Hideout. Seriously, are there still even circuses in tents? Last time Ringling came to town, the show was at the local civic center) and now thy're just stealing characters outright from the comics (Killer Croc).
-
I decided to write a Bruce Wayne series (in TV format) for my own amusement. An actual show would be better, but if you're bored...
http://tinyurl.com/2v5w8xm

After Heroes....I don't give a fuck.

Are superhero shows becoming a new genre like those 3 so that we get a new series every season on every network?

wow obvious name is obvious
-
At least for the most part. From the trailers I never would have assumed there was no possibility of "super villains", let alone a reptilian man/beast. Sounds even worse than it initially looked at this point. I mean, ingress hebwas magically grabbing things out of thin air with a bed sheet, but still....a reptilliam super villain? Count me out.
-
I hate it. I never want to type extended sentences ever again. Nothing but errors
-
...Wahahahahahaha! What a piece of crap! Hahahahaha! Cancelled in 2 episodes!
-
..Mysterion! The creator of the show watches South Park! Hahaha! http://url2it.com/dlfa
-
like a derivative composite of all superhero/costumed crime fighter properties that have come before.
-
And I'll tell you about the heartbreak of psoriasis.
-
you don't know the meaning of heartbreak.
Oh, I thought we were doing a Tom Waits riff.
-
You assholes will bitch about anything. Looks pretty good to me, with top-notch production values, a solid cast, and a unique (for TV) story to tell. Give it a fucking chance.
-
maybe passes for a saturday morning show but no way this makes it on primetime
-
Step right up.
-
...would track him down and sue him for copyright infringement. He might be able to fight off evil midgets and a British mobster with a bad case of psoriasis, but no way can he escape legions of Jewish attorneys!
-
It's a circus-themed special-effects show. Anyway... Vinnie Jones was the best thing about THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN. He didn't have to actually speak in that one though.
-
So what is this show ripping off?
-
liefeld leno.
-
Better than Ninjas, I Guess... CANCELLED IN 2-3 Episodes.
-
That's what it looks like to me; terrible M.A.N.T.I.S. / Night Man style butchered Smallville excrement.

The "No Ordinary Family" one looks at least a bit better.
-
It looks like him; is that him?
-
Get Raimi on one of these comic-book shows.
-
Let's see... a little bit of Beauty and the Beast, some Daredevil, a pinch of Darkman, a gaggle of Nightman... and an extra helping of Lycra. Shake well!
-
This makes me not want to own a television because it's possible that through some sort of accident something like it might appear on it without warning. Thank you AICN for these timely early warnings.
-
and came up with this!
-
Fighter of the Nightman?

I must be getting old. The other day I was cleaning out some things as part of spring cleaning, and I came across across a box filled with issues of FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND from growing up, as well as other old fanzines dating back to the 70s. As I said, I guess I'm showing my age because I remember a time, as a kid, that I'd be ecstatic to get ANY kind of superhero show on TV -- let alone with a budget and on primetime. But today's geeks are so quick to pounce negatively on something, I often wonder whatever happened to simply having fun by being a geek and going from there.
Does that mean I think the fans should accept crap for the sake of it being the only thing handed to them? No, not at all. But the YouTube trailer simply shows that this IS a superhero show, so I really don't see the point of bagging on it till we've actually seen it.
After all, I'm sure the trailer was simply cut from scenes from the pilot. Which means that even after they completed that...or showed it to other people (test audiences, etc)...perhaps they're ALREADY changing some of the things many of the people are pointing out here. So I say let's just wait and see, and then go from there. Least let's give it a fucking chance.
-
Yeah, it has a sort of SHADOW feel and all. But give me a break -- how many REALLY flat-out original ideas do you see come along in comics these days? Versus how many times does a creator simply pimp something else...he feels he/she is putting their own spin on it...and then you've got a mashed up creation of mix & matched ideas? That's how you end up with Superman (super strong guy/alien born) and his 100 derivative takes or "homages". Batman (normal guy who trains himself) and his 100. Wolverine and -- oh, you get the idea.
To be honest, I wanted to like HEROES, but it ultimately suffered from the standard superhero bullshit these days that the property must be treated "real" and set in "our" world. Fuck that. What made a show like ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN a classic or even the old BATMAN show -- hell, even most cartoons -- is that they're unapologetic about it being a SUPERHERO show. I agree with what someone above said. HEROES started okay being what it was (a TV rip-off of X-Men), but it should have morphed into them wearing costumes or other things more in line with superhero comics. Frankly, by the time HEROES ended I couldn't tell any fucking difference from the way it started, there was no advancement at all, which is never a good thing for a network show that got 4 years of air time to prove itself.
-
Well, seems a bit hokey from the trail but if it makes it to this side of the pond I'll probably give it a whirl. Mr V. Jones getting dropped like a bad habit by a midget (Vern?) with a wrench has to be worth a look :)

that's about a guy who needs to hide his identity, so he doesn't wear a mask or throw his very distinguishable voice?

Yeah, let's see how long that lasts. I give it two episodes, just because NBC is stubborn after all.

I just think the stereotypical cartoon circus setting...
by JayLenoTookMyJob
... is the dealbreaker here. I don't mind the magic fabric cape or the rip-off of Oracle... oh hell fuck it... everything about this show is off. But I'll give it a viewing anyway.
-
...where have I heard THAT before??? Knight Rider n'uff said
-
...NO CAPE!
-
Seriously, stop it with the black leather costume crap. It's lame.
-
This looks Sarah Palin's kid retarded.
-
an English or Aussie accent?
-
Love that voice. Yay, Goliath!
-
Just kidding. But I wish I wasn't cause the preview for this show makes me wanna hurt myself!!!!!
-
Was that the score for Batman Begins underneath all that schlock? I think this could be better if they quit trying so hard to make it funny and family friendly.. Honestly this looks like something that was canceled on the WB in 2001..
-
I swear that black guy in the previews is popping up everywhere these day.. videos games and recently I saw him in Requiem for a Dream.. "Hey baby I didn't take it out just for air"..That was so disturbing.
