I am – Hercules!!
AMC is following up “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” with a 12-hour “Three Days of the Condor”-ish conspiracy thriller starring “24”-“The Pacific” vet James Badge Dale as a think-tank analyst in hot water. Writer-producer Henry Bromell (“Homicide: Life on the Street,” “Chicago Hope,” “Brotherhood”) is its showrunner.
The first episode of "Rubicon" is said to air 11 p.m. this Sunday, right after the season finale of "Breaking Bad."
The series launches properly on Aug. 1; it will paired on Sunday nights this summer with “Mad Men.”

Only because it is on AMC and their track record is the best in television currently. If this was on any other network I would probably skip it, but they have consistently produced smart, quality programs for the most part.
-
I don't remember him
-
If only because its on after the finale of Breaking Bad. I am concerned about Henry Bromell, after seeing he was involved with the Brotherhood piece of shit. Also Carnivàle, a great show don't get me wrong, but they played the mystery plot too hard and pissed a lot of fans off in the process.
-
Season three. Remember when Jack cut off the hand of Kim's boyfriend?
-
...wasn't at all pissed off. I don't know what fans you were talking to; as one of the most well-known members of that show's fandom, I have honestly got to say we only ever got pissed off at HBO's treatment of the show and their unjustified shitcanning of it after only 1/3 of the story had played out.
-
...were never pissed off about the show's mythology. Hell, there are still several active forums and mailing lists devoted almost exclusively to it.
-
... hands off my daughter!

AMC is making such good shows, of course I'll give this a shot
by badmrwonka
Dale was great in The Pacific, and even though I HATE conspiracy theorists in general, I will definitely be checking this out. AMC is the Steven Soderbergh of television.
-
Left the show after they started dragging ass in season 1. Season 2 kicked all sorts of ass but the damage was already done, hence why the show was axed on a major cliff hanger. The only ones who stuck around was the most hardcore of the hardcore and thats not enough to keep a show alive.
-
The series finale of Carnivale had almost 3 million viewers on HBO. The show definitely had a good following at the end still. HBO wanted Soprano type numbers and they haven't seen those numbers from any show since that shows 2nd to last season. Carnivale is still a show in search of its ending, the show runner would love to continue it but HBO won't sell the show yet won't move on continuing it.
-
The shot of the airport and the people in the hotel suite -- that's is the "holy shit" twist moment in the pilot -- you gotta watch the whole thing to get there though. This should be a good series. AMC has been working on it for two years.
-
this show looks interesting, will definitely watch it.
-
...Carnivale didn't even have great ratings in the first season, and the dip wasn't that significant in season 2. The show won five Emmy awards in its first season, which was a major contributor to its renewal, but HBO's creative battles with the writers during season 2 (of which there are far too many to recount here), not to mention its high budget, were some of the major contributors to its premature ending. Michael J. Anderson, who played Samson, maintains that the show was canceled for political reasons. I have no doubt it was a combination of all those factors; most current HBO shows don't have the ratings Sopranos, Sex and the City, Oz or even Carnivale had. If Carnivale had had the budget of, say, Hung or something like that, I have no doubt HBO would have stuck it out for the whole run.
-
It could be good but I'm worried it will be tarnished with the usual not that intelligent or disguised left wing brainwashing bullshit that so many other shows and movies have been torpedoed by.
Aesthetically it looks like Bourne. -
Spot on. HBO is begging for ratings left and right. While they've still got a handful of good shows (Hung, and to a lesser extent True Blood), they're either driving some of their older shows into the ground (Entourage, Big Love) or fishing for ratings by making America feel bad (Treme, most of their documentaries).
-
HBO's report of Carnivale's season 1 ratings were an aggregate of what everyone was watching during the period in which Carnivale aired its first season, showing how well it did against other programs on HBO satellite networks. The ratings for season 2 were just the people watching Carnivale, so that's a fairly sizable difference.
-
kicks the crap out of Treme, IMO. I know Simon rules but man that show to me should be packaged and sold over the counter in the sleep aid section.
-
About some kind of internet virus or the internet becoming self aware conspiracy? Is this the same thing only downgraded to a governmental conspiracy thriller?
-
Seriously, do you remember when stuff like Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon was revolutionary. When basic cable was a wasteland of syndication and WB/UPN caught the scraps of the development cycle. Before the rise of reality TV pushed serious television to short run cable shows. Now you have USA, FX, AMC, A&E, TNT, SciFi, HBO, Showtime, Starz, Comedy Central, even Cartoon Network producing fantastic TV. BBC America brings in some of the best Britain has to offer, albeit well after anyone with their ear to the ground and 2 brain cells of tech savvy has already watched it.
The concept of ratings no longer has any relationship to how people consume media. It's a world of DVRs, On Demand, Hulu and Netflix. DVD can turn shows into smash hits after they've been cancelled. Movies at home are easier and higher quality than ever, and video games have production values rivaling hollywood blockbusters.
The concept of TV channels needs to die. They don't need to compete in timeslots anymore, they need to compete for buzz. In an age where anyone with a half decent camera can be a youtube hit, we don't need tv pumpin 24 hours of recycled content, we need trusted filters to bring us the best this world has to offer. -
Thats a good one considering it gets shitty ratings, even though its a terrific show! I'll give Rubicon a shot!

Just because it's fishing for ratings doesn't mean they get them
by johnny smith
How many years did Jack O'Neill go fishing in his pond before he even noticed a fish? A fish, which I might add, was only there because of some time travel nonsense.
-
that I'd watch the premier of almost anything they wanted to show. Just wish I didn't work on Sundays.
-
To me she'll always be Queen Elizabeth 1.

"as one of the most well-known members of that show's fandom"
by willyer hero
Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
-
It looks almost like a spoof. Like everybody's about to start cracking up from being so restrained and dramatic with their deliveries. Also looks like they cut a trailer together from just one episode. And I agree...haven't we had enough conspiracy stuff? That said, I think a tentpole remake of Three Days of the Condor would rock. It better have a hell of a hook.
-
You're adorable. Honestly, there are a lot of very well-known fans in the fanbase who have achieved a certain level of extremely minor celebrity. My friend Michael Strang was interviewed on the second season DVDs, for example, about the show's mythology.
-
He was totally great in The Pacific, and what's more, he looks like the bastard love child of Matthew Morrison and Orlando Bloom with a little Dick Van Dyke thrown in (watch him smile). This series looks scary as hell and not terribly derivative. I'd like something else apart from Mad Men to watch this summer.
-
If Direct TV would hurry up and get AMC in HD.
-
Although, we've all seen this conspiracy-type stuff before, I'll give RUBICON a shot. It looks interesting enough...let's hope there's more to it than what the trailer suggests. As others have said, AMC has built up enough good will as to make their new projects worth checking out.
-
Yeah, because making it chock full of right-wing bullshit would make it oh-so-much-better. GTFO.
-
I don't need MSNBC or Fox News in HD, its kinda scary. Get your shit together DirecTV!
-
MNG needs to see Christina Hendricks in all her Joan Holloway glory!
-
This looks really good. Hadn't seen any footage before the embedded trailer above, but I like the tone and feel of it.
I once read a book called "Crossing the Rubicon," which outlined what's going on backstage as the world runs out of oil, and it's gut-wrenchingly scary shit. My mind drifted away from it afterward since it's just easier to live my everyday life without thinking about it.
But it's there. It's absolutely fucking there.
I have no idea if "Rubicon" crosses that line, but it sounds like it might.
I'll be checking this out. -
In the process, pulling a miracle in getting Neve Campbell to drop her whiny emo bullshit for 90 minutes.
-
Local guide indicates a sneak preview on Monday at 8:45am PDT. Any confirmation or clarification would be appreciated.
-
I drifted away from the show when he turned the protagonist reins over to Sledge. Mazzello is a bore unless he's being chased by raptors.
-
Wasn't he working on a pilot a while back? Is that still happening, or what?
-
AMC is building up a lot of geek friendly cred, what with having some of the best shows either airing or in the pipeline.
-
a few days ago. I haven't read it yet, but it came highly recommended. For a more humourous take on Peak Oil, (and other related stuff) from a quite-left comic, check out Rob Newmans "History of Oil". (Full rips are on youtube and google video)
-
We all know this.
-
If this is up to AMC-standards, it will probably turn out fine, and be able to handle a conspiracy story with some intelligence (no pun intended).
-
AMC keeps on kicking ass. Who would have thought?
-
How about carrying AMC in HD so I can watch the best shows on TV in high def, assholes? Stupid cunts.
-
Heh, the missing Gavin brother...kinda weird Timo hasn't made it back for any family occasions, eh? He wasn't even at Johnny's funeral.
-
Their sane sister is MIA as well. But at least we know she's somewhat estranged and smart enough to stay away.
-
BAH.
-
Rubicon the dynamic.
-
When does Janine Garofalo join the cast?
-
The government conspiracy angle is usually hard to keep interesting on a television show (with the exception of the x-files). But I like AMC and James Badge Dale. I enjoy watching actors who don't act like actors...
-
High hopes for Walking Dead, here.
-
My EPG and AMCTV.com say Breaking Bad runs 10pm-11:47, followed by Breaking Bad and Breaking Bad.
-
I guess it's about how high fructose corn syrup winds up in everything. "OH My GOD, this four-leaf clover is made entirely of sweetener!"
-
Cuz' DISH Network doesn't frakkin' have it either!
-
...two ad agency shows on one network.
-
I have AMC HD. Mad Men looks awesome!
-
...I think I've had my fill of shows with conspiracies. So many go unresolved and others end badly resolved. And Lost was nothing but conspiracy. Time for a new taste.
-
Seriously, the show premiere is not THIS SUNDAY, its in 2 months. Geez.
-
Thanks for the "History of Oil" Youtube link. I definitely prefer a funny take on peak oil.
I chuckled several times, so most appreciated. -
Already tread this territory.
-
"The first episode of "Rubicon" is said to air 11 p.m. this Sunday, right after the season finale of 'Breaking Bad'" was, perhaps, in error.
AOL/Zap2It's TV listings say BReaking BAd at 10:00 pm est to 11:45, then a rerun slated to run 68 minutes followed by another rerun timing in at 65 minutes.
WHY is the debut airing 105 minutes long, or around 40 minutes longer then the repeats? DVD bonus material? Expanded scenes? Let's hope it's not an extra 40 minutes worth of commercials. -
yeah it started off dodgy but around halfway through season 1 it gre out of its "Irish-Sopranos" tag and became something very special. Anything from the same creative team will have me interested
-
About a toy convention.
-
Comcast has it in HD, if you can put up with their bullshit.
-
Breaking Bad and Rubicon, even though the latter isn't listed, since it's a "sneak" peek..BB runs for 47 min. + ads, and then Rubicon follows.
-
The conservative white men are the bad guys. What a shock!
-
Oh yeah, and the bad guys are Christians, too. The bastards.
-
..WOW.......run.Can't wait for the finale. The shits gonna hit.
-
They have it free on Demand so you can watch it whenever you want for weeks after in HD. Their free On Demand service for some shows is the one thing that keeps me from totally hating Comcast.
-
Rogers in Toronto has Mad Men On Demand in HD, though I don't think they offer the full channel. I must say, Christina Hendricks is what HD was made for. But seriously, the palette of the show is absolutely spectacular. Really maximizes the technology.
-
Speaking of HBO hits and misses,I've never seen anyone mention this show on AICN, which surprises me. I think it's one of the funniest things on TV right now. The episode called "The Salty Jazz" made me laugh so hard that my wife, who hits the hay before me, woke up, which is rare--and not good. I'm also pretty jazzed about Rubicon, which looks entertaining--and really only has to be pretty good to survive when paired with Mad Men.
-
Mad Men has Matt Weiner from The Sopranos. Breaking Bad has Vince Gilligan, behind some classic X Files. The fact that Bromell was behind some mighty fine shows, shows promise.
-
So true. Life and Times of Tim is TV's best kept secret right now.
-
http://www.amctv.com/originals/rubicon/
"A sneak peek of AMC's newest original drama, Rubicon, will air on Sun., Jun. 13 @ 11PM |10C, immediately following the Season 3 Finale of Breaking Bad."
I'm on FiOS... schedule just says Sneak Previews... hour long sneak of this summer and fall's shows. It's not the full show. -
heh.
Here in TGWN we have AMCHD on Bell ExpressVU.
I'll give Rubicon a chance.
I need something to feel the hole left by LOST, 24, the end of season 2 of Nurse Jackie and FRINGE, um...all the NBC Thursday night shit....and...geez, I should get outside. -
One of the main reasons HBO is starving for ratings is because movie fans are tired of their cropping widescreen films for broadcast. I dropped them months ago. However, TV's best new show is scheduled to premiere there in the fall...and that's Scorsese/Winters's BOARDWALK EMPIRE. Trust me...it will be a must-see. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised but I'm amazed there is so little abouit here on AICN. But all will be hooked soon enough.
-
Desperate Housewives, LAX. Other shows with big bulletin boards: FlashForward.
This does not look all that bad. Frankly, if it was being pitch as an ongoing series I'd pass, but if they intend it as a 12 episode mini=series with an ENDING as good at that beginning, then I will probably check it out. -
Mac on CSI:NY, wife dies at 9/11. Grace on Saving Grace, sister dies in Oklahoma bombing.
-
was having the amazing Harris Yulin appear in what amounted to little more than a cameo. That dude can act.
-
There's a thing that's kind of prevalent in Hollywood/TV fiction, when they're writing these "genius" type characters. They have all this knowledge at hand, but you never see them studying it or acquiring it. (I think Good Will Hunting is a good example of this.)Rubicon went one better. They have quick shots of the character reading a book on String Theory (Oh, he must be SMART) and knowing the latin for four leaf clover and the irish for kiss my ass. Fine, he's some sort of widely read trivial pursuit master. But the scenes where he's looking at 4 towns, and drawing links between them is pretty far fetched. Real people, even geniuses, don't think like that. The crossword puzzle was even more extreme. Spotting that the same words were used in every newspaper puzzle, I can buy that. That's a good link. But to suddenly make the link from those words to "There's a fourth branch of government" was just a leap too far.If the mini-series continues to have the character pull impossible logical links out of his ass like that, I'll probably drop it. But for right now, it's got my attention and I'll be tuning in for the next part.
-
that fourth branch thing came out of nowhere, it was like the south park parody of jeff goldblum --> http://pastebin.com/VCD41eaf
-
Yeah, I thought that too, but didn't think anyone would get the reference. :)
