BioWare and FUNimation Entertainment will be collaborating on an anime movie adaptation of well regarded fantasy RPG Dragon Age.

Production of the Dragon Age anime movie is slated to begin this month with a home video release in 2011. Executive producing the film are BioWare's Executive Producer Mark Darrah and Creative Director Mike Laidlaw, as well as FUNimation's president and CEO Gen Fukunaga and Director of Original Entertainment Chris Moujaes.

Dragon Age has been selected as the first title in FUNimation's slate of major anime movies to be developed through FUNimation's Original Entertainment team since the announcement of the company's co-production initiative in November 2009.

"Dark heroic fantasy" Dragon Age: Origins, reminiscent of works like George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire, allowed the player to explore the history of a Human Noble, Mage, Dalish Elf, City Elf, Dwarf Commoner or Dwarf Noble before taking control of a Grey Warden in their campaign to revived Darkspawn.

RedBull_Werewolf, What's REALLY Sad About That

    by dave i

Is the fact that means I'm not "this generation" since I remember watching the Lethal Weapons (well, the first two) as a kid. Now I feel kind of old.-Cheers

    Kind of Encouraged . . .

I haven't played Dragon Age, however I like that they are still trying to perfect the video game to movie transfer. There are some amazing stories in video games and most haven't transferred well. For the games I have played, I don't NEED to see them on the big screen, but I would certainly enjoy them done well (cough**SilentHill2**cough**ShadowoftheColossus**cough), as well as some of the games I haven't played but whose storylines interest me. Also, you could get to see some different takes on classic scenes or encounters. I also like that they seem willing to do things like direct-to-video since they're going to be less-risky than full-blown intended blockbuster movies. It might also avoid them flooding the theatres with every possible video game incarnation, as well as letting them have more freedom to be true to the source and their artistic vision and less tied to conventions of movie-making that have become unfortunate staples in a lot of video game movies.-Cheers

Great game! Bioware really did their work in creating a fantastic fantasy universe. I am looking forward to the next game, I wonder if the movie will tie into it? A bridge between the two games, maybe.

With HBO making a Game Of Thrones series as we speak. Just about everything in the Dragon Age world was very liberally borrowed from George R.R. Martin's books. The Grey Wardens which are based on the Night Watch, the Blood Magic, the whole bastard child who can inherit the throne bit, just about everything. I loved Dragon Age because it's the closest thing we'll ever get to a Game of Thrones game but also because it was very, very good. I'm just not sure there's anything really original to offer as far as story goes.
