Daniel Craig To Take The Lead In Fincher's GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO??

Merrick here...
TheWrap says that Daniel Craig looks to be closing in on playing the lead character - Mikael Blomkvist - in David Fincher's bigscreenification of Stieg Larsson's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
Daniel Craig is nearing a deal to take the lead role in a U.S. adaptation of the Swedish blockbuster trilogy, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," [EDIT] Craig would play journalist Mikael Blomkvist who is looking for the missing woman, Harriet Banger. [EDIT] David Fincher will direct the crime thriller, based on a trilogy by the late Swedish novelist and journalist Stieg Larsson. [EDIT] While Brad Pitt has been reportedly considering the lead role, an individual close to the negotiations said that Craig was close to a deal. The James Bond star will fly out to Los Angeles on Friday to have dinner with Fincher, who's slated to direct the three-picture franchise for Sony.
...says TheWrap HERE. As suggested above, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is part of a trilogy authored by Stieg Larsson, who passed away in 2004. Other titles in the cycle include THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST; all of them are available HERE. I have nothing to base this on other than (admittedly fallible) gut instinct, but how many of you are beginning to strongly suspect we may never see Craig as Bond again? Hopefully, when MGM gets its shit sorted out and someone is actually able to make 007 pictures again, they can at least drag him back for one last installment before recasting - thus allowing him to complete the "trilogy" of films they instigated by CASINO and QUANTUM.
