'Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy.' Ratner's SNOW WHITE 3D!!

Merrick here...
Brett Ratner will produce a SNOW WHITE project along with Bernie Goldmann, Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley, and John Cheng. The project already has five producers?
Relativity Media has made a preemptive acquisition of The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, an edgy 3D re-imagining of the German folk tale written by Melisa Wallack. [EDIT] The deal has aggressive progress to production stipulations [EDIT] "This is not your grandfather's Snow White," Ratner said. "Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney's film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we're going to do."
...says Deadline HERE. To de-snarkify for one moment, Deadline says Wallack's script skews closer to the Grimm's source material (available HERE) than previous adaptations, which may well be fair and true and could in theory be interesting...despite Ratner, and even though I've never found this particular tale terribly compelling. By the way, if you paid to see ALICE IN WONDERLAND, this is your fault. This probably wouldn't be happening if that film hadn't made over $1 billion.
