Ready To Get Pounded By THOR's Hammer??
Merrick here...
Yesterday, we got our first look at one of Captain America's costumes from Joe Johnston's forthcoming film (HERE).
Collider now has some images of Chris Hemsworth as Thor from Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of, well, THOR. This nicely matches THE INTRODUCTORY HEADSHOT we glimpsed a few weeks back.
Click his hammer to EMBIGGEN it!

You can find another image of the hammer swinger HERE.
Collider's THOR pics are clearly of the same ilk as the Cap images revealed yesterday. Some comments have been made that all of these images look like they've been processed in some way - i.e. they may be a somewhat constructed image and not literally an actor in costume. This assessment is, quite likely, accurate because it's concept art. Our understanding is that all of these pics (Cap and Thor) were generated internally by The Powers That Be as final design studies & what not - and/or as a means to better visualize/illustrate the characters for merchandising proposes, etc. I.e. they're real in the sense that they're as close as you can get to "real" photos, and are used officially in a demonstrative capacity.
Assuming/guesing we'll see full-on stuff as we approach ComicCon - mid Julyish, perhaps?
THOR clobbers us May 6, 2011.

That costume design works for me, bring on the Avengers!
-
They should take the look of the comic costume and make it blend in in Braveheart, not Krull.
-
Apparently real hammers don't glow and shoot lightning.
-
The whole thing looks plastic. Here's hoping the final product looks better.
-
"Ready to get pounded by Thor's hammer" is what I say before sex.
-
It's impossible to tell how the pants/boots/belt combo actually look in the real fabric. Here, they look shiny as hell, and kind of like space-age jeans. I'm assuming that's not the way they will look in the movie.
-
Thor and his mighty plastic smelling armor.
-
top half is cool but needs the helmet for chrissakes. the pants are like, well - the designers couldn't think of anything to do with them so they just watched X-Men.
overall i say it's pretty so-so, and will reserve final judgment until i see it in the film. but come on, give us the helmet you clowns. -
you'd have to be pretty blind to not realize that for both this and the Captain America pictures. but its nice to see Thor is more or less confirmed by that picture of him released the other day. the costume seems modern-ish so i wonder if this is a different one he'll have in the real world and have something more "traditional" during the rest of the movie in his world. but he looks pretty cool, i'm sure some will whine over the most trivial things but yeah. and he looks fine without a helmet too so if they never have use it that works.
-
Hoping/guessing the final look comes off better, not sure why they would even want these images out there though.
-
Just kidding. looks okay. we need a pic of him with the helmet.
-
Couldn't they have found a tougher looking dude like Sean Bean or something..geez
-
i can't believe someone said that after the article itself confirmed its not a real costume even though you can tell its a CGI drawing just by looking. oh...you.
-
. . . to Iron-Man and The Hulk.

As a concept artist who has done this kind of work before...
by chewtoy
They're most likely paintings with photographic details photoshopped into them and then further painted on top to blend all of the elements together to one cohesive style. While I'm not wild about the look here, I would suggest people not get too worked up over it as the true "look" of the costume on film won't be known until after post-processing. Take a look at the differences between that early "Expendables" footage and the trailer to see how significant the post-processing really is.
-

That is indeed Thors costume but it is also DEFINITELY a render
by industrykiller!
As someone who has actually seen shots of the actor in costume I can tell you that for a fact. The render looks goofy but he looks much better in real life.
-
That costume is a bit plastic and shiny for me. I guess he's a god so the rules don't apply, but I was really expecting a more organic and medieval approach to the costume.
-
really? what kind of "work" have you done before? Mind telling us? See, I´m just a fan, and I know when something looks cheap and shitty, don´t need no post-processing.
-
don't tell me no helmet! where are his thor boots? Kinda looks like Nuclear man from Superman IV...
-
to which your boyfriend mutters,"Does Ant-man have a weapon? Cause I guess I'm ready for that again."
-
these aren't actual pictures you know?
-
LMAO well goshelpus, couldn´t agree more. I rented Superman IV a few weeks ago and saw it for the first time in 10 years. The Nuclear Man parts suck, of course...but the Clark Kent stuff rules! Reeve was great, I miss the guy. But I digress.
-
are cheesy. get over it.
-
How dare something look cartoonish that is based on a comic? The gall!!
-
I like the Cap's design...but this one looks....gay?
Does it make we gay for thinking that?
I like his hair...silky and flowing...awashed with sweet smells....
wait what? -
sounds like Thor in porn "by Odin's blood, thou quim shall be pounded by my hammer"
-
this is for when he's romancing the ladies...(well i hope ladies). it's also the suit he wears when he's attending fundraisers and charity events... this couldn't possibly be his battle armour, right... RIGHT!?? sigh...
-
Of all superheroes so far, Thor requires a more organic, less 'designed' look in order to make him look more realistic and relatable. This looks like Thor as envisioned by Mattel.
-
...looks more god-like! You don´t wanna mess with Nuclear Man, baggypants Thor! http://tinyurl.com/m8kcnw
-
Someone mentioned Ant-Man. I gather he and Wasp aren't part of the Avengers in that reality? That's a big minus for me.
-
This film will suck balls and will put a real big dent in the Avengers project. I've been wary of this project since they announced it, and this costume makes me think I am right.
Iron Man's costume should be 100% high tech and glitzy, as it is. But a Norse god should not be stretched into spandex and rubber shit like that. He looks like Batman for cryin' out loud! He should look like a Viking!
I'm calling it now - this will suck. -
not a power-ranger... This costume is horrible. I was expecting lord of the rings style fantasy not blade body armour...
-
Which I guess is what Marvel is aiming for. Now, what will the Nolanized Superman look like I wonder...
-
ABSOLUTE SHIT
-
POSTED IT BEFORE YOU DID
-
It doesn't need to look just like the comic. But would it kill the designers to make something look, oh, vaguely ancient-Norse? Some visual element, somewhere on the costume? Instead of just a bunch of meaningless, random swoopy lines and little random angles which don't seem in any way tied to any place, time, or culture? And which seem to have to practical function?I'm still looking forward to this film more than any Marvel film, past or present. But what bums me out about this concept image isn't anything to do with faithfulness to the source - rather, a sort of timid lack of imagination or creativity. This outfit is full of design for design's sake. Whoever designed this has failed in imagination.
-

-
This gives off more of a Fantastic Four vibe, with the cheesy crap costume, and less of the authentic gritty realism of something like Iron Man.

-
Using the explanation that the Asgardians are ultra technologically advanced extradimensional beings, which explains the superpowers and "magic" is fine, but they are very old beings - and the costume should reflect their ancient status a little more. Thor's boots in particular are so modern and engineered looking - like I can pick up a pair at a Kenneth Cole shop anywhere in the world - look at the soles for crissakes, ridiculous. The materials can be a bit more organic looking, because it wouldn't be a Earth cow that was slaughtered by an Asgardian for it's leather - it would be the hide of the terrible Icebeast or somesuch. That way the writers can explain why organic looking material is sturdy enough to withstand the punishment that Thor and the other gods can take.
-
I should have known they'd have the historical accuracy nailed down! "Thor, by Nokia."

...not Thorish.
Thy film will not florish. -
That I'd miss the look of the old Bill Bixby Thor guest spot.
-
Thor isn't part of the Matrix. He's a battle-hardened warrior, somewhat unrefined, more Valhalla than Van Heusen. He should look more like he just walked out of the Lord of the Rings films than something out of the Star Wars prequels.A lot of you guys have said it well, but I like fiester's phrase, "organic and medieval". That should be the phrase which comes to mind when we see Thor, not "evening wear" (which is sadly appropriate here).I really liked that head shot we saw a while back. But this image - and it's only one illustration, not the film - looks so painfully un-ambitious.Filming Thor is such an audacious prospect in itself that it can't be done in a less than audacious way. In a way, it's crazy that they're doing this at all. Which means they really need to go for it, unapologetically. I don't get that from this image.
-
Your statement is both exactly right and clever at the same time. This image is about 80% of the way toward a great Dr. Strange costume.
-
This looks like the armour for NOVA or for some high-tech bounty hunter with a cape.
The appeal of Thor was always that he was a God, a man out of time and place. A Frank Frazetta character interacting with the Marvel Universe.
I would have liked to see more metal, leather, and things that look aged.
This look is too futuristic for me. And will he wear a helmet at all?
I love the Captain America design but this doesn't work for me.
Looks like Thor 2099 or something.
-
Might as well add in some rubber nipples and a codpiece.
-
Can't say anything that hasn't already been said, but it's disappointing compared to the teaser image.
-
Top half is ok - similar to the new thor - which i really like.
Then the bottom half is like a biker outfit?
Come on guys, he should be a viking! I knew we wouldnt get the tiger stripes, but I really like the new costume for Thor, with chainmail - this is just odd.
Why do the top half accurate and mess up the pants? -
I thought there was already a pic leaked earlier with Thor in chain mail. That pic looked great. This weird leather armor looks terrible.
-
this picture of him for the rest of his life.

Hold on, something about Marvel Studios just occured to me.
by rev_skarekroe
They hate putting things on the sides of character's heads. No helmet for Thor, no wings for Cap, no ears for Abomination... If Loki ends up with the same costume as the comics but hornless, I'm out.
-
This is the exact same outfit seen in the earlier pic. But that just means this is very old news.

It better get better than this. I was willing to cut some slack on the first picture released, hoping that they'd improve. They're going the wrong way. This looks like something done by Roger Corman. Don't get me wrong - I like Corman. For what he is. This is wrong. Just wrong.
-
'cause if it doesn't...
-
...great.

At least Mjolnir is the classic squared one and not the dopey Ultimates version.

Looks like the current comics incarnation, and not too silly. I like what they're doing with Cap and Thor.. remember, we used to get only black leather jumpsuits, at least this is an attempt to look like the comic version
-
YES! You're right, it is better!
-
...I wonder if this is what he wears all the time or only in the modern day AFTER he joins The Avengers.
On the other hand, why WOULDN'T they have advanced polymers in Valhalla? They're gods, they can do whatever they like, right? -

They have no respect for the characters any more. Good artwork, though. I can't picture Hemsworth as Thor anymore. Thought I could, thought he was supposed to be more built than this. And yeah, his costume is terrible. Looks like Thor dirtbike gear instead of Norse armor.

I work in the video game industry and have done images much like these for the modelers to follow. By combining photo sources with concept paintings and keeping things clearly and evenly lit, it helps to eliminate confusion on things like materials and the finer details. I merely brought this up to confirm Merrick's statement that the images appear that "they've been processed in some way" rather than being straight photographs or straight concept paintings. The post-processing comment is just an observation as a fan of films. When the early footage of "The Expendables" was posted here, I agreed with many others that it had a cheap, direct-to-video look to it. The same footage, after post-processing, looked great in the trailer. In the end, the costume may indeed look like ass on the screen. I'm not wild about it from these pictures, but I'll withhold judgment until it's lit and in the finished film.

together before they are considered one eye? The picture begs the question. Plus Widow's peak fail. And yes, I still want Alexander Skarsgard as Thor.
-
...unbelievable it is that Captain America would be the leader of that group.
We're expected to believe that the guy in the power armor, the Norse god, and the gamma-radiated mass of muscle take orders from that guy?
He looks more like a proverbial redshirt. -
Well, that's what the outfit suggests...major boob on this one methinks - here's me thinking Marvel were going all Tolkien, but instead it's Batman and Robin Pt II.....crud-tastic :s
-
Because White Gold actually looks more like Thor than this does
-
Really lame.
-
that picture doesn't exactly get me pumped for the movie...he looks like a cosplay. Also, why is he wearing all leather and boots? I have never seen a god wear a full leather body suit. And where the fuck is his helmet?
-
This guy doesn't look grizzled enough. He looks like a pretty boy playing a grown up man in a school play. No gravitas.
Also, lame hammer. It should be bigger. All around dissapointed. -
...to become the ULTIMATE CHICK MAGNET at Comic Con. (snort!)
-
I hope they take extended trailers to the San Diego and New York comicons, maybe constructive feedback can help it. I'd really like to see it succeed, or at least be entertaining. For "Ironman 2", Robert Downey Jr. was quoted as saying when they showed the first extended clips (I don't know where they were shown) there was very negative feedback to Tony Stark's ego mania, and the production was able to humanize his vanity before the film's release. Crossing fingers, I enjoyed the comic books as a kid and hope the movie can live up to them.
-
Bottom half looks like shit. I will wait to see it in action thought before I completely kill the movie.
-
so valhalla is a disco night club in LA now???
-
But it looks cool I guess.
-
I guarantee it.
-
Yep. The boots ruin the whole look. Wal-Mart Special time.
-
What I was thinking. Like the top half but it's overall kind of lame. Looks like it was designed by execs in a boardroom not by production artists.
He's a god from another dimension, yet he wears leathers and bikers boots. Lame. -
Both Capt. America's and Thor's costumes look too modern. Cap's should have a WW2 feel, and Thor's should have a medieval feel. Look at the cleats on Thor's boots! Very un-medieval.
-
Is Dentyne Ice-ish.
-
This picture does not make me want to see this movie. The look tells me it's less about good story and adherence to source material and more about selling merchandise, merchandise, merchandise. Also, dude looks like Van Wilder with a beard.

Does it look like a mystic hammer that can deliver any amount of damage? Check

Thor doesn't have "tiger-stripes" anywhere on his costume. His boots are black with a yellowish wrapping around them, or in some cases, a banded metal wrapping. Stupid artists in the past have made this mistake, and drawn them as stripes. EX: http://tinyurl.com/nszsut

Stay classy, AICN.

Actually, almost no one here is bitching because it either does or doesn't look like the comic. We're bitching because it looks pretty lame and doesn't do the character justice.I like the old Thor look, but don't need the film to look that way. But I would like the film version to look, say, like a mighty Scandinavian war-god who's fought hand-to-hand with some of the baddest bad guys in the whole universe.Instead, it's the prince's outfit for the ball? A ST:TNG version of Thor? Little plastic doodads and leather slacks?Again, I'm looking forward to this film. And I still believe in Branaugh. But that doesn't mean the film's designers haven't gotten this all wrong.
-
That sounds dirty.
This costume being as gay as it is, I'm not surprised you when with an anal sex reference like that though. -
It's too high-tech looking. I thought he was a millenia-old demigod?
-
BECAUSE THOR'S BOOTS ARE SLIGHTLY LARGER TAHN I IMAGINED THAT THEY WOULD BE
-
The top half actually passes and looks like an armored vest put over chain mail...okay, works well enough.
But that bottom half is just wrong. Black leather pants and boots? No way. More chain mail or something more medieval looking... -
Thor is such a lame character that nothing can save this doomed movie. Thor will kill The Avengers (and this pics shows it clearly)
-
I mean... is he not supposed to be dressed in armor? Shouldn't he have something that would match the top half of his outfit, which IS armor? Dude looks like he just came back from a Harley Davidson convention.

After throwing this in photoshop and dropping him on a black background, then painting a few simple shadows over it to make the lighting moodier, he looks pretty good. The top half is all that really matters... the details that pop out are the disks on his chest, and whatever highlights catch the edges of design elements. I doubt we'll see much of his legs regardless. (For instance, try to find a movie still from "The Dark Knight" where you can see his knees.) Admittedly, I don't think "Thor" would be as much of a nighttime flick, but unless he's clean, in broad daylight, and shot midrange but still full-body, I don't think we're ever going to see him looking like he does above.
-
...within the rest of the "real" Marvel movie Universe they are building up.

And, The Avengers is going to NEED some female members. Who's it gonna be? Wasp? Scarlett Witch? Tigra? Black Widow? -

-
Kinky devils.
-
I don't know. For some reason, my "adult-mind" can deal with one superhero jumping around, doing his thing. But, whenever there are multiple dudes wearing costumes, doing things together, it just looks silly.
-
I think these extemely photoshoppy mockups for Thor and Cap look good, so the real deal should look great. I'm excited to see the first real pics of the costume with proper lighting and everything
-
Still needs the helmet....but its coming along.
-
Thor! No wonder Marvel just released a torso shot of Hemsworth as Thor. Leather pants??? Thor needs to have an organic medieval look to him if he is a GOD of Thunder.Change the name from the Avengers to the Ultimates.
-
I don't know. It doesn't exactly scream Norse God of Thunder.-Cheers
-
I just don't care.
-
For some reason I can deal with animated Justice Leagues and Avengers stuff, but live action will probably come off as silly, for me. However, X-Men 1 and 2 mostly worked, and those dealt with a lot of superheroes. So who knows. Anything's possible.
-
Now I can't get "Why Me" out of my head.

-
Kind of like when marketing pics of the Batman Begins suit got out a few years ago. Batman on a stark white background, tell me that doesn't seem out of place. I still had to laugh at the tread on Thor's boots. Thor, god of thunder, needs excellent traction on his footwear!
-
Thor - coming soon to the Sci-Fi channel.
-
You can see from this image http://tinyurl.com/2wv5pur that Thor's trousers are actually silver/metallic like his arms. Plus added Loki in the background.
I found the image at comicbookmovie -

no. the boastful god being taught humility WOULD wear silk tight
by jrkerr
makin thor bearded and givin him rubber nipples is ftl. how do you fuck that up branagh!? read the fucking books and see that yes, ok, odin lost an eye in battle already; but that thor is a fancy pants that needs to be taught a lesson: no manly beard, girly blonde lockes, gay colored silk tights, singing, drinking, cavorting. get it now? odin did not back off and recognize thor no longer needed the donald blake curse until jane foster was made a goddess and hated it. ffs man. loser flop of a movie. fail. fail. fail.
-
Batman is the exception...everyone else on film...don't do it.It really doesn't translate. It looks forced and like it definitely be a hinderance in reality.
-
Jun 03, 2010 5:27:33 PM CDT
Just use Liam Neeson's armor from Clash of the Titans
by gun_will_travel
Because it looks a hell of a lot better, badder, and godlier than those leather pants and Doc Martens. Thor is the god of thunder, not the god of guitar hero.
-
the pic looks like some random model that got dressed up to sell a Thor Halloween costume. OK, look mean...
-
What happened to medieval Thor? He was my favourite...
-
twas a bad computereth enhanced design!
-
You and Edna Mode.
-
On paper, it's all good(design wise).In reality, on film...it's just stupid.Speaking of Edna...where is ODIN'S name is Incredibles 2?
-
TV Thor was better.
-
in medieval literature and myth. This movie will reverse that.
-
....but for Thor, it should have wear and tear, scars, less shiny, more rustyish... but then again, maybe the Norse gods go to the same outfitting store as Cap does in the 40s
-
on the big screen. See? Just stating something doesn't make it so.
-
like the Kirby version, but it appears that they blended the recent hideous Coipel/JMS version with Simonson's style for the other Asgardians in his 80's run (Simonson had visited the set).
-
Top half looks alright. Still needs his helmet. Bottom half looks out of place. Combat boots and leather pants look make him look like he's a Scorpion band member.
-
I'm still going to see this, that may look better on film but... look I was really hoping this would be great I really was but lets's face it if your initial reaction to somthign that's supposed to be a NORSE FUCKING THUNDER GOD is 'erm...' you've lost half the fight.
-
Would there be any costume where you would say "That's exactly what I wanted"?
It's fine. -

Thor from the Hulk TV movie beats the hell outta this
by fatmexicandwarf72
So plastic and retarded looking!
-
coming up with a worthy bad guy for the gang to face because with a line-up like that they could easily kick anyones ass in seconds flat. That will pose a real problem for the plot, script and casting because if it is weak then that will pretty much doom it to failure before it is even in the can.
-
Hard to do live action. Batman and Ironman both work well in real life because their costumes are a disguise, protection/armor, and very functional. Not so with other superheroes, so it comes off a bit ridiculous. Anyone know what Harry's corner animation is supposed to be from?
-
How's about Loki teaming up with some fucking Skrulls? That do it?
-
I think that they're gonna establish Asgard first and everybody lookin' ridiculous with that outlandish Guitar Hero-look. Then, once our eyes have been assaulted into submission, they'll bring us to earth where Hemsworth will bone Portman. Loki attacks! Hemsworth remembers... BAM! Thor bitches (in same ridiculous outfit as before only now we kinda expect it).
-
If that is the best they can do, then this movie is headed straight into the sh!ZZer.
I KNOW!!! How about you create something that looks mythical and ancient and immortal? SHEESH... -
Thor!
-
LOOK!:http://tinyurl.com/2ea7gqd
-
How about something that looks, oh I don't know, a bit more "Norse"? Hell, you can even "Frazetta" it if you want...
-
Because modeling this movie after Flash Gordon makes this dude the long, lost member of the Village people...Same with Cap. Lose the "I'm covered in my own red blood because I chose white and blue over camo" rig.
-
Looks like Thor if he were on Charmed.

a giant dildo hanging out of his ass.
-
But it worked out well on smallville. Thor's costume will be fine onscreen. People just love complaining I guess.
-
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0295640/
-
I assume. He'll wear it in battle or something.
-
It's sucking cock already, so just release a render of the shittacular Loki you've got planned, guys! I mean come on, anyone with any respect for anything in Norse mythology know how shittastic this looks. You're denying that you have bollocks by saying you like it. Ultimates sucked, Thor-wise. Emulating ANYTHING with that for Thor is shooting yourself in the foot. They should have just gone with the look in Ragnarok, the last worthwhile Thor story Marvel has told us.
-
Yayeth!
-
Jun 03, 2010 9:15:53 PM CDT
They should release the movie on Thursday instead of Friday.
by creasybear
For reasons obvious to people who know random useless historical trivia.
-
Sometimes comic fans amaze me. They say putting wings on a character's mask is gayer than giving him a dildo-shaped helmet, and then turn around and say that black leather pants are gayer than dressing up like a disco ball.
-
looks consistent with cap and iron man. but the bottom half is missing in action. could we get some silver on the boots? he doesnt look quite god-like enough as is.
-
"They look like army man boots." Yeah, sort of. Just...wrong. But the rest, including hammer works for this father and son team.
-
Thors is based on the current run Thor and features the helmet worn in those books. It looks much better in real life and certainly better than the attempt at authentic viking wear in the Incredible Hulk movie. Captain Americas is based on the Ultimate rendition of Cap, a realistic outfit for the 40's meant to be functional and a living symbol of freedom back when people were proud of the flag and country that was saving the world so check your politics at the door or don't bother going. The costumes are faithful to the material and if you're whining about it Juran Van der Sloot should be your premiere date.
-
Stark makes fun of cape, Thor taps hammer on armor. Stark says, "Son of ...he cracked my armor." Just like out of an Iron Man comic not too long ago.
-
Be pretty cool if some Norse warrior found an indestructable alien artifact, tied a handle to it, and started smashing bitches over the head with it. We know it knows how to fall from the sky. It'd also explain the plastic pants. (No, wait, no it wouldn't.)
-
for a pissy little hammer like that... MJOLNIRYDHSOR should be bigger like it has a bit of weight behind it. So when he starts swinging the fucker around he has to put in some effort.
-
I was expecting something that looked more midieval authentic, something that looks like its been through some ugly battles. This just looks like some dude who would show up in an old power rangers episode with his polished plastic outfit that jiggles when he moves.
-
Especially with the designer beard.
-
With the sleeves from the current 616 version. Not too bad. They skipping the helmet altogether?
-
Frankenstein and The Wolfman. And still, we're surprised these costumes suck. We should have seen this coming. It only going to get worse...
-
Because that cosplay abomination is so aweful that I don't even think about the hammer, let alone give a shit about Mjolnir.
-
You're gonna like the way you look, I guarantee it.
-
THATS GENIUS. but on my Zune.
-
Is this what they're making motion pictures out of these days? The heathen gods of those fuckin' Viking cocksuckers? What other blessed deities of the dirt worshippin' kind could we gussy up for the big screen?May Odin's one good eye be fucked by the prick of Zeus should Shiva land himself a development deal.
-
Is it just me or does the guy playing Thor like a bit like Heath Ledger. That was the first impression i got when i looked at it.
-
I'm having Lynnard Skynard flashbacks looking at his face
-
is obviously something missing from this site because I've never read so many fucking retarded comments from people who consider themselves to be fans of the written word. Fucking disgraceful.
-
Join Odinson as he rides on his chopper over the Rainbow Bridge to Midgard on a quest find his half brother LOKI.-Thor's chopper designed by OCC.
-
To evaluate costume choices... that is all.
-
Using their concept art for Iron Man as well...
bit.ly/d3AMi0 -
...something from LotR. Like, something Boromir wore in the Fellowship of the Ring--clothing that had been clearly been expensive and regal, but been worn down my constant use and years of travel. And more authentic looking, to boot.
But then again, I think it's acceptable. I care less about the costumes and more about the acting--and considering that Branagh is essentially working in a field considered his forte, I'm hoping it'll turn out well.
You know what REALLY bugs me though? It's the fact that the hammer is glowing like that. Yes, I know Mjolnir is supposed to throw out lightning and such, but that has to be one of the crappiest CS5 filter jobs I've seen in a supposedly high-class photo render. . .I mean, really now. It's just very distracting. -
cartoon looked way better than this.
-
I like the idea of borrowing from LOTR also, those costumes were phenomenal. Maybe something more like Theoden's battle armor than Boromir's, though.
-
Agree I was expecting something out of LOTR as well for Thor, well worn, and not looking like he is a gay biker. Absolutely no rubber.
Cap I am less impressed with, but will hopefully lose some of the brown after WW2 scenes. As I and others have said Cap is not wearing camo colours, his outfit is meant to be symbolic not your typical soldier look. -
Well, first of all, he looks like a fucking pretty boy selling cologne without the helmet to rough him up a bit, considering that the actor did NOT bulk up in size for this thing.I'm not trying to bag too much on him, I'll wait to see how his performance is in the movie, but unfortunately once again this is a case where it becomes insanely hard -- unless you want to cast wrestling stars or something -- to find anyone who can actually FILL OUT a superhero costume properly. That said, I still would've liked it more if they V-shaped his chest armor to make him look more broad and heroic. As for the legs, they absolutely SUCK. They should have let the gray armor from the arms be his legs, and then you could have dipped allowed his top tunic to hang below the waistline -- at which point you would have basically done a modern Hollywood, armored version somewhat in line with Kirby's classic design. But no question about it: HE NEEDS THE HELMET.
-
Looks good dude, good job.
-
looked better in that Son of Asgard miniseries -- they incorporated/replaced elements of the designs with fur and leather, but they still resembled their weird original Marvel counterparts.
-
Finally. The film I've always wanted.
-
that's not even his body. The head has been put on to see what it might look like.
-
I can't stop laughing at this costume... holy shit... this made my day.
-
Kenneth Branagh is a Bad Ass..but that looks like some cheap picture off some generic Thor costume bag...where it would be called Norse Warrior with hammer cuz they weren't sure of copyright issues. This better be a joke..cuz Iron Man 2 already pissed me off with its suckage and that toy looking plastic hammer at the end credits gave me no comfort.
-
No, really, if they ever decide to do a biopic of Metallica, they shoud get Chris Hemsworth to play James Hetfield.
-
Hemsworth would make a great Hetfield.
There was Black Sabbath for Iron Man, think Metallica for Thor, bit of Ride The Lightning, and for Loki a bit of Master of Puppets and Disposable Heroes -
The rest isnt so bad, kinda sci fi-ish
-
I'm glad they kept the big spots on the costume, though.
-
Hats off, Asi. That was very...American of you.
-
is Thor's freakin' helmet?!!
-
Dude, are you kidding? Mettalica is huge in Portugal. Huge, i tell you. All their albums goes platinium here.

Thor is not some guy in leather swinging a hammer! He's a bigger than life GOD! He's got to have appropriately proportioned upper body. If you can't find a weightlifting hulk somewhere who can act, then you'd better go CGI. Look at the results that Burton got in Alice with cgi bods and live action heads. I see a HUGE mis-step coming.
-
C'mon, dude! Let's wait until the movie came out, don't you think? Then, all will be fair game.
-
I second your James Hetfield comment! Oh, and yeah TedKordLives, the fanbase here in Portugal is huge. Believe me, I´ve seen them in 2004 in Rock in Rio Lisboa and people went nuts.
As for Thor...its a cool pic. Have in mind that it´s concept artwork, people! The colour scheme will look very different on film. -
Looks okay. Still don't know about this one have to wait for the trailer
-
I betcha they go the Judge Dredd route and he has it off the majority of the movie. Probably 5-10 minutes of helmet time, tops. I also predict Loki won't have horns.
-
..that asshole James Hetfield. Had no idea Metallica was huge in your neck of the woods, however those fuckers haven't progressed since the Black Album and from what I have read, Hetfield is a real prick.Death Magnetic was another forgettable Album WTF happened to those guys?!? (Same goes for Slayer)
-
És português?
-
I'm not myself a fan, though i do admire their work. But the real Metallica fans in Portugal, who are really hardcore, most of them also think that their earlier stuff was much better then the new stuff. As for why this happend, why their later albuns aren't as good as the earlier ones, well, my answer is just, the dudes got older. They are no long hungry and angry young kids anymore. And groups like Metallica operate on youth anger and criticism of the system. It's like punk music, after a certain age, it became awkward to see this middle aged dudes trying to pretent they are still young turks rocking the system. If you ask me, the greatest quality a rock group can have is to know when to quit while they are still ahead.
-
If this is conceptual then I'm sure they want some feedback. Not just a bunch of yessies suckin' up. They need to break out some old-school-how-tos on proportions for super hero types. Cap and IM are men so they should sport top-of-the-line human physiques. But Thor, as a god, needs to be head and shoulders over humans AND have freakishly broad shoulders with massive arms. He could NEVER sit in an automobile. He has to stoop and turn sideways to get through a door. He's nowhere near as big as Hulk but he's got to look like he can hang with Hulk in a dustup. (which he can--and then some) Here's another tip for the micro-minds of studio marketing: Don't shoot a promo pic of a hero using a down angle. It immediately diminishes the character. I'M looking down on Thor? Really? How did that happen? I don't even work out. Shoot them with an up angle and make them look bigger than life. Idiots! Now on a completely unrelated note: moonlightdrive made an excellent point: What super-baddie could stand up to the proposed Avengers team? Galactus, maybe?
-
The problem with most conceptual photos from the movie's design is that they do not simulate the cinematography the movie will have. Thus, most of those promotional photos do not reflect how things will look like. And that, for me, is a mistake.
-
They finished shooting the the movie already, they're stuck with the rubber. Oh well
-
Hands down the most (unintentionally?) homoerotic tagline of the week.
-
Was, IMO, a brilliant return to form for Metallica. Then again, I am one of the few that thought St. Anger, while horribly produced, was a good Metallica album as well. Load and Re Load were venturing into very plain territory (although Fuel is classic Metallica) they at least went back to the aggressive sound that made them. My Apocalypse (from Death Magnetic) is one hell of a kick ass tune, if you have not heard it, give it a listen.
-
Looks interesting, although too early to make any real judgments, but I'm on board with it so far, most likely I'll be there opening weekend.Of course we have the requisite tb'ers already saying how this is "going to be shit" but I have learned to laugh at those people.
-
Liek the Wolverine work print. I would much rather DL this first before seeign in theatre, it's got "Teh Suck" written all over it.
-
Celtic Frost would be a winner however. To Mega Therion to be exact. If not, Venom.
-
That song IS Norse mythology.
-
That alone makes me gladly spend my money for a ticket. Which is more then i can say for that vast majority of the people working in Hollywood at the moment.
-
They always take me out of a movie, whenever they use a well known pop or rock song, or whatever., be it rap, hip-hop, dance, whateverthefuck. They invented the concept of film score, that's what should give us the emotional beats, not already popular songs. I specially fucking hate when the movie use HITS OF THE MOMENT in their soundtrack. That's desperate audience ass kissing bullshit. It completly rubs me the wrong way. It's commerce for commerce sake. It's complete bullshit.
-
I would have liked to see some lighter blue accents in places as well as more yellow in the boots, but this is a damn sight better than I was anticipating.
-
"I specially fucking hate when the movie use HITS OF THE MOMENT in their soundtrack. That's desperate audience ass kissing bullshit.A perfect example was during the ending credits of GIJoe, the genius producers decided to add that song Boom Boom Pow. (from the Black Eyed Peas)talk about rubbing salt in the wound, the movie was a shitfest to begin with now fucking Fergie is singing?!?Note to Hollywood: No fucking top 10 songs before, during or even after a movie. The music choices for IronMan 2 werent bad however.
-
for this, Cap or the Avengers. Branagh may be able to pull it off, but I think these are beyond Johnson and Whedon's capabilities. Hopefully the Spiderman reboot won't suck balls, but this Webb guy has some pretty big shoes to fill after SM 1 and especially 2. Not so much after 3 though.
-
...we wouldn't get stupid X-Men-style costumes like this. There are probably actual costumes from Branaugh's Henry V that would be more appropriate than this (and I say that with great respect for that great film). Why would it be so hard to make him look like an actual warrior, someone who's had to fight trolls, giants, demons, and the like? Regardless of any costume details, he should look more like Aragorn than Magneto. With any luck, this outfit will just be the Thor equivalent of James Bond's tuxedo - a "signature" look, but something he only wears for small amounts of time.
-
For example, the only electric guitar present on the soundtrack should be Terje Rypdal. Get him together with Ketil Bjørnstad and they could create something gorgeous and contemporary.
-
(Haste makes waste)
-
Thor: "So ... thou are married?"
Summer: "Yea. 'Tis crazy, huh?"
* Cut to shot of Mjolnir limply toppling to the ground * -
Sim, sou português(de Coimbra). Não sabia que havia aqui mais tugas no Aintitcool, heh.
-
OMG the bottom half looks terrible where is the chain mail legs like the comics. The chest peice looks too much like armor and not enough fabic like the comics. Castig is all wrong where the hell is Triple H bitches. Even the punisher in the first movie had more guns than this bitch
-
...this is an outfit created for him by Stark Enterprises in the modern day.
I'll bet 1000 quatloos that this isn't his Asgardian outfit. -
..takes place in Asgard with the all-mighty Odin, and Baldar, the Warriors Three and Sif and Loki and the Golden Gates and Rainbow Bridge, the whole magilla. The only way Thor can be taken seriously is if he's established as the God of Thunder in a mythical/mystical setting first, have him battle some frost giants, maybe a throw down with Ulik, and then at the very end a betrayal by Loki that makes Odin banish him to earth. Only then, after Thor has become a believable character in context can you bring him down into the modern world and make him stick. I know nothing about the script, but I pray it is so, or close.
Sweet outfit though, looks like the Ultimates Thor and I never had a problem with that take tho Jolly Jack's soap-opera-dramatic bit will always be the Thor of my youth and my absolute favorite, same as the FF. -
This costume doesn't look very Norse and where's his helmet? He may need it in case one of his white tiger's tries to bite his head off in the middle of his act. Are wings out this year? The concept drawing for Captain America's costume wasn't sporting any either.
-
Acho que tú e eu somos os unicos Tugas aqui no AICN. Eu sou de Almada. Bom de ver outro tuga aqui, para variar. Viva Coimbra.
-
No, the movie also takes place on Earth. Natalie Portman, for instance, plays a definatly human character.
-
Well, yes, the songs in IRON MAN 2 were alright, but they were a bit overwhelming. I can't help but find songs in movies overwhelming. The only cases when such might not happen, is when songs are specifically composed for the movie. Or when you really have a genious director making the movie, like David Lynch partnered with Trent Raznor in LOST HIGHWAY. That movie is one of the rare cases of excelent use of already existing songs in a movie. But then again, David Lynch was always very careful and very good in the use of sound and music in his movies.
-
O Chuck vejo esporadicamente e acho piada. e quanto a estar acordado...demasiado trabalho!Bem, vou dormir. See ya
-
But I'm way more excited to see this movie.
-
But Ill say, At last a Super Hero in a cape!
Been waiting for years for a proper one. -
-
