THUNDERCATS Are Go For 2011!!

I am – Hercules!!
Warner Bros. Animation will announce tomorrow that it’s launching a new “Thundercats” TV series on the Cartoon Network in 2011.
Look! Tomorrow's press release today!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THUNDERCATS, HO!
WARNER BROS. ANIMATION ANSWERS THE CALL WITH A NEW
TAKE ON THE CLASSIC ANIMATED SERIES “THUNDERCATS,”
TO AIR ON CARTOON NETWORK
(June 3, 2010 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) has begun production on “ThunderCats,” an all-new animated series for Cartoon Network, based upon the iconic 1980s action classic. “ThunderCats” is the newest series from WBA, joining “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” which was recently renewed for a third season, and the following forthcoming programs: “The Looney Tunes Show,” “MAD,” “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” and “Young Justice.” The announcement was made today by Sam Register, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, Warner Bros. Animation.
“In addition to being Warner Bros. Animation’s first anime series, ‘ThunderCats’ marks our most ambitious foray yet into fantasy,” said Register. “The realism and dynamic visual style we’ve achieved are sure to thrill viewers, and the cool weapons, vehicles and technology should help the show appeal to a diverse audience.”
The 21st century reimagining of the series marks a creative collaboration between WBA and Studio4°C, one of the most vibrant animation studios in Japan, with credits including “The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights” and “Halo Legends.” WBA is working closely with Studio4°C, utilizing the latter’s expertise to give the “ThunderCats” characters a new cutting-edge look while remaining true to the compelling storylines and mythology of the original series.
“We at Studio4°C are excited to be in this creative partnership with Warner Bros. Animation to bring ‘ThunderCats’ to life,” said Eiko Tanaka, President and CEO, Studio4°C. “This collaboration combines the strengths of our two companies – high production values and great storytelling – toward reintroducing this classic fan-favorite to a new audience.”
Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, “ThunderCats” characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.
The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.
“ThunderCats” is executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”). Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) are the producers.

Unless this is secretly implying a movie is on the way.
-
Is this an indication that the movie is on the way? Is this a movie tie-in?
-
If popular, you know what's next. Wesley Snipes for Panthro!
-
Better be hot!
-
He's a decrepit old mummy. Wait. He's a jacked up super man. Wait. He's a decrepit old mummy again. What the fuck.
-
Sorry, I got nothin'...
-
I hope it gets more air life than the updated He-Man from a few years ago (not the crappy update, the GOOD one). I really appreciated what they did to make that more credible and it sucked how wrangling and budget behind the scenes screwed it.
-
Heh. That's how it read the first time I passed over that line. That'd be kinda interesting.

If you think Hollywood would make a live action Thundercats movi
by dapper swindler
Then you are dumb. Think about it, a bunch of actors dressed up like cat people. Not a single human to relate to. It will never be done. A computer animated thing would work though.
-
ummm, no
-
I seriously had no interest in this until reading Studio 4C is involved. I have yet to see anything from them that wasn't fucking awesome.
-
Seems like a good idea to me. I'm glad to see they refer to it as Warner Bros. Animation first anime series.
-
Basically similar to that Dinosaur thing Disney did...CG characters in a live action setting.
-
OH GOD NO SNARF PLEASE!!!
-
Safari Joe!
-
...will he be a creature, not like Gozilla exactly?
-
of course. Also, the Demolisher was the best one-shot character. Kicked both Mumm-Ra's & Lion-O's asses.
-
ThunderCats was my absolute favourite show when I was a kid. Loved it.
I still get chills watching it now for all the sounds and music in it. I guess this can only disappoint, but I'm really intrigued to see how this turns out. Would be fantastic if it hits a chord with a new generation and ThunderCats is everywhere again -
Avatar proves that it can be done!
-
to be anime-styled. At least in some cases the content overcomes the style (Avatar, Teen Titans) but for the most part every other new cartoon series has to be anime style, sick of it.
-
I hope this is only a precursor to the real deal ... a big budget Thundercats film. Man-cats FTW!!!!
-
TB this week? It was only like the greatest episode in the history of tv.

Thundercats was just the offspring of He-Man having sex
by bettercallsaul2
with Cringer/Battlecat and marketers trying to sell bullshit, and AICN is just trying to make a quick buck by saying YAY - Thundercats are cool!! meanwhile they're not.
-
Story sounds like a movie... goes missing... arm found in his abandoned van. Roommates go missing then are arrested for other charges...

But I managed to find a way to do so in JUNO, when she yells "Thundercats are Gooooo" regarding her water breaking. So, so, so, so, so stupid.
-
In other words, is this being aimed at kids or adults who remember being kids?
-
It was "ThunderBIRDS are go", and "ThunderCATS, HO!" Might want to change that title or people might think you don't know what you're talking about.

Many cartoons from the 80's aged well...
by ooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuutttttlllllaaaaa
...Thundercats wasn't one of them. When Cartoon Network (?) started airing some episodes I tried watching one and it was a struggle. Could be good, but not excited.
-
Plus, where's my Garbage Pail Kids movie Hollywood?
-
is a good fit but I guess we'll see.
-
was a babe! Thundercats HOOOOOO!
-
probably because a black actor voiced him. i recently discovered it was the grandpa from cosby show....crazy. lol
-
as sure as cheetara was a woman and that dead dude was alec guinness. Panthro was a black guy.
-
He just does. Any differing opinion just warrants someone trying to be politically incorrect or a rabblerouser or some shit. All fans knew he was the black one.

Transformers: Animated was excellent.
-
These are inalienable Thundercats facts.
-
I could give a fuck about thundercats but that press release also mentions batman brave and the bold has been renewed..that makes my penis really happy!
-
I would watch the fuck out of the ridiculous fucking mess that show would be. As is....meh.
-
of my childhood is nearly complete. All they need to do is get Voltron on the big screen and every cherished memory I have from my beloved cartoons growing up will be ruined. Thank you Hollywood.
-
...and Thunderbirds? A la Juno in...Juno?
-
how's this possible? your childhood is over and done with, whatever good memories you have will always be good. nothing done after the fact can change that, stop being a melodramatic queen people...i mean really.
-
... before MumRa became a joke. In his first few appearances, he would be kicking ass until the Thundercats would get lucky. Even if he can't win, he needed to be a real threat, instead of a stepping stone for Snarf.
-
Good point. Your comments are ironic for me because it was Thundercats in which I learned that bad guys in an animated series were only bad the first few episodes. After that, they all become weaksauce. I remember when Thundercats introduced the Lunatacs the first time and thought they were almost unstoppable. Then a few episodes later the blind Thundercat and snarf's cousin was kicking all their asses.
Hell, if you follow Dragon Ball Z I remember the battle with Freiza lasted over a month against Goku, and then eventually Goku's 5 year old could beat the crap out of him in a matter of seconds.
Rule #76 of animated series is that bad guys get punked easily after a few episodes and then another bad guy takes his place. -
So will this version have Cheetara with tits the size of a blimp and upskirts of Wily Kit?
-
Cool. I'll definitely check this out, and Young Justice as well.
-
I won't watch an animted TV show at all.
-
typing fail
-
Not a fan. Sorry.
-

-
Masturbation is optional.
-
Thank god this is isn't a live action movie. I suppose its only a matter of time though. Snarf
-
Does Liono have to lose his sword every fucking episode. For such a valuable commodity, that dude couldn't keep his paws on that shit for more than 15 minutes at a time.
-
Well then...has the xenophobia started yet?
-
Loved that show. The new one could be great, but has a lot to live up to.
-

I am beyond excited about this. Thundercats defines my childhood
by performingmonkey
I fucking loved it and still do. It was definitely the GREATEST of all '80s animated series' and you ALL know it. While there is no way they could possibly match it now I hope it's at least half-decent and revives the spirit of Thundercats for kids right now. And d'you think I'll be checking it out?? Too fucking right I will. Hope the designs aren't TOO cat-like, if you know what I mean. Otherwise you lose something, the ability to relate to the characters? Maybe. A live-action movie could follow this if they get it right, surely?
-
They were shit. They made the Ewoks look like fucking Shaft.
-
...THUNDERCATS!!!! (But WTF are "realistic cat characteristics???)
-
Silver Hawks knock off Thudercats wanna be show. It had some cool ideas too, but never got the love the TCs did.
-
i swear rollin blade one had 3 different names
-
Will we see anything new with Spy Vs. Spy? (There was even talk of a live-action film that never got off the ground...) But getting back to this, wasn't the original animated in Japan, so it's kind of like an anime?
-
Those creepy furries are just going to twist this. They ruin everything.

that's all
-
They should get a new cartoon series too.
-
They've been showing Thundercats on Comcast On Demand through the Kids WB section for the last year or two. I started watching it again with my 4 year old son who really likes it.
Celicynd... the Thundercats creator was not the one murdered recently. You are thinking of Steve Perry, a writer who write a couple episodes of the cartoon series and also worked with Marvel on porting Thundercat episodes into comics. Here's a link to an article about his murder: http://bit.ly/9agbGe
The creator of the Thundercats was Ted Wolf.
The reason why Silver Hawks was so similar to Thundercats is because both shows were produced by the same company and used basically the same voice cast.
If you whittled down the first Thundercats season to the best 13 to 20 episodes it was pretty good. The problem was that there were so many episodes produced for the first season that some episodes were just very strange or just had very similar plots.
I'm of the opinion that a 2002 He-Man like revamping of Thundercats could be very cool.
Since WB is pushing this series and NOT a toy company (ala 2002 He-Man) there's a good chance the show's mythology/seasons could last. I think it's clear though that WB is testing the water for a potential movie. Since the Na'vi in Avatar were essentially cats, I think that photo-CG is probably the direction WB would ultimately go with a Thundercats movie. Don't forget that humans existed in the original Thundercats tv show, both as primitives on third Earth and also a spacefaring race... -
It was awesome, in a nostalgic sorta way. I was walking my dog along this path that cut through a couple back yards, and got accosted by a group of 5 (or so) year olds. It took me a second to figure it out, but they were all playing Thundercats in their back yard! One kid, "Lion O," apparently, was waving a stick at me, talking in-character to his friends "Panthro" and "Cheetara," and I was so impressed that these kids even knew what Thundercats were that I gave them my best Mumm-Ra evil laugh and played along for a second, before they all ran off. I was amazed little kids still played make-believe as Thundercats. Gave me hope for future generations.
-
the cast is: Brad Pitt as Lion-O, Vin Diesel as Pantro and Hugh Jackman as Tygra.
-
Finally some good news about the '80's
cartoons, I'm a grown ass man I will b
glued 2 the set just like back in da days,
only this time around I'll have my 4 year
old at my side! Now all we need is some
"real" progress on He-Man, and it's all
gravy baby! -
wow... id rather have Common (PS look at my thoughts on Common in his interview wit Capone... in short, Diesel really sucks if i mentioned Common instead)
-
"Police in Zephyrhills, Florida, have confirmed that ThunderCats writer Stephen Perry, who has been missing for more than two weeks, is the victim of an apparent homicide.
His van was discovered on May 16 at a Tampa motel, reportedly near a severed arm. More remains were found in a dumpster at a gas station two miles from his ransacked home. Perry's roommates, James Davis, 45, and Roxanne Davis, 49, were missing as well. However, police later arrested the couple on unrelated charges. They're now considered "persons of interest" in the case.
Perry, 56, suffered from bladder cancer and had been jobless, without health care and, for a time, forced to live in his van with his 5-year-old son Leo. Over the past eight months he received assistance from the Hero Initiative, which helped him to line up work and pay rent, utilities and medical bills." -
Its been several years now I think, and it's still one of the best fake trailers ever created.
-
No one mentioned it here yet, but yes, one was made. I think i remember that they came from space in a garbage can space ship. No, i am not kidding. Someone out there besides me and my bro has had to have seen it, right?
-
I thought one had been optioned (checks google...) yeah, it has.
I, too, thought the series was more interesting when Mumm-Ra was presented as being a real threat but I guess over time, the threats become a little empty or something. I mean, you started having Mumm-Ra use telekinesis to throw stuff around at Lion-O and then late in the series, you had him with various Thunder-Cats all at his mercy and he just says something about once he understands some book he's holding, he'll be able to do away with them all.I still remember some line I thought was a joke line in one episode, "Ancient spirits of evil, is this the end of Mumm-Ra?" you know, "Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Rico?" -
I want a futuristic Indian lawman with an insane transforming cyborg talking horse with a laser shotgun. And then I want M.A.S.K. crusaders with Jeeps that spit out speedboats and helicycles and flamethrower masks. And then I want COPS. And whatever I actually won't be watching any of this.
-
He was a member of the black panthro party nyuk nyuk nyuk
-
Uh. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the original series also animated by a Japanese studio?
-
So, if the ones we watched, Lion-O, Cheetarah, Panthro and Tigra(?) and those gay little kids were the last of the species, why were they so lucky to all have their names reflect their type of cat? I mean, if there were thousands like them at one time, what were their names?
"Hey Panthro!"
"How's it going Ted?"
Seriously, think about it. There are really only so many cat combinations out there.
"I am Bob-Cat!"
"Call me Ocelotto."
"Hey Cheetarah, this Leopard-O, you wanna get together?" -
...just wait until "Cougar" and "Pussy" turn up.
-

Cheetara will resemble Neytiri from AVATAR, but with C's instead
by monkey_king
and Lion-O will have more romance with our staff-wielding buxom female cheetah.
-
I guess I was too old or this or Transformers.
-
There is no such fucking phrase as "Thundercats are go." And before you ask, no, neither is there such a phrase as "Thunderbirds ho." Sincerely, people who gave a shit about Thundercats.
-
Who can do hip hop, better than a frog can? STREET FROGS, STREET FROGS!
-
Are some people replying as if this story is about a Thundercats movie being greenlighted? Do you people even read these articles?
-
Must all things be turned into that style?
-
But was always bothered by the fact that during the initial journey to 3rd Earth Lion-O aged while the kittens did not. They were all the same age, but upon arrival, only one had grown up.
-
It will "anime style" in the way the original was "anime style" - because that was animated by a Japanese studio, too. Sure, most recent offerings can't hold a candle to bubble 80s stuff, but 4C does some interesting work. By getting it animated in Japan they are being *faithful* to the roots of the series, not moving away from it.
-
I understand that the original was animated by a Japanese studio, as were many of the old classic 'toons I watched. I guess I'm referring more to a specific style of Japanese animation. I certain way of doing it that people are supposed to consider "cool", but is overdone for me lately. I suppose I may really be thinking of a certain style of character design than the "anime" genre.
-
sound like a 70s after shave for men that would have used Richard Rountree as a spokesman?
-
I don't want the Inside the Actor's Studio guy getting MORE money.
-
There's yet another fanboy connection w/ that show. I only knew that his mom played Calibos in the original Clash of the Titans.
-
If he's in it, I hope he's just some non speaking pet.
-
Sex Panthro by Odeon. This stuff is illegal in 9 countries. It's made with bits of real panther, so you know it's good.

Let's go, Ghostbusters! Let's go! Let's go, let's go!

-
He's almost as annoying as that Erko character from the lame ass Masters of the Universe series. And that's fucking lame!
-
I am sorry... but Anime just DON'T fly with me... honestly... i am SICK of this pre occupation with making EVERYTHING appeal to the masses... just retain the original art style for GODS sake.... please.
-
What the fuck...?!? Thundercats are go?!? I would even go with Thundercats are Hooooo! as a double entandra but Herc is way off. (have no clue why clone mentioned DiaBLOW Cotex, but fug it!)
-
yeah i said it...GAY..nothing gayer than the thundercats...seriously gay.
-
As for Mumraa, that dude made me shit my pants as a kid. Seriously freakily scary. And everyone knew Panthro was a nigga. Panthro = panther = BLACK cat. How much more proof do ya need?
-
...which is why he aged and the Wiley-kittens did not. The real question is: why did they start wearing clothes? They were all naked until they came to Third Earth. Also, where did all of those soldier mutants go that were in the first couple of episodes? I could go on and on, but I don't want to embarrass myself any futher.
-
He better mother fucking be back. And get apeshit with the re=design, much like the old LOST IN SPACE robot compared to the new film version one.And definitely ORCO.that was THE single most strangest/laziest/coolest(?) costume design within a "swords-and-sandal/conan type cartoon.

The hell with protesting the Jesus Christ cartoon that is probably in development; let's united against this new Thundercats concept! It discriminates against the dog species! If they can't have 50/50 cats and dogs, then I say "NAY!"all comments represented in this caption is not in any way discriminatory against rats, rabbits or emus, other species not mentionned here are also considered in a non-discriminatory way except for squirrels, I hate squirrels..

... Give me sight beyond sight.
Mumm-ra was awesome. His only weakness was his own reflection and they made him immune to that for the second season.
I remember Slythe, Monkian and Jackalman always screwing up his plans though.
I used to have a toy Battletank too. -
For those of you hating on anime style, who do you think did the animation for Rankin-Bass? The Japanese! Thundercats WAS anime. The thing about it, though, is that anime was not necessarily as stylistically exaggerated as it is now, nor as monotonously formulaic.
These days, when a cartoon property in the US wants something to look "anime" what they are saying is they want all the characters to look like they were designed to appeal to pedophiles (aka Teen Titans). So have female characters with the basic body proportions of a 10-year old girl and then bolt on D-cups and child-bearing hips. Then make the hairstyle some flourescent color and jagged-shaped like Lisa Simpson.
