Here's A Zombie Chick From Frank Darabont's THE WALKING DEAD Series!!

Published at:  Jun 02, 2010 12:02:34 PM CDT

Merrick here...

AMC has posted our first look at the zombie creature things from Frank Darabont's THE WALKING DEAD series, which begins production in Atlanta today.

The six-episode first season -- written, produced and directed by three-time Academy Award-nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) -- follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home after a zombie apocalypse.

...says the AMC piece, which can be found HERE.

While waiting in line for KICK-ASS, my teenage son and his friends recently worked up survival plans for "the inevitable zombie apocalypse". I was proud of 'em - 'tis not common to see teenagers thinking ahead these days. Even though their plans seem solid, I'll make sure they watch this series as Frank will, undoubtedly, have a few more pointers they should consider.

I've been waiting a long time for a Zombie mini-series!

    by zombieflicker

I hoped for something like this for HBO or Showtime, but this will do. Hopefully, the ratings will be strong enough for a 2nd season. I just hope that there are no zombies riding horses, learning how to form a posse, using machine guns, or learning to read via hooked on phonics.

Zombies don't kill people, people kill people.

    by adamdiran

I hope the series remains true to a theme both in the Romero movies and in the Walking Dead comic series. Zombies aren't all that dangerous, they don't kill a whole lot of people, and the ones they do kill are generally either the paniced or the foolish. The real danger is paniced, foolish, or otherwise hostile people...

There has already been a zombie miniseries

    by darkartist

Its mentioned every time there is a new WALKING DEAD article. It's called DEAD SET. It was a british 5 episode series focusing on a zombie apocalypse occuring in the studios of Big Brother. It was created by the great Charlie Brooker and it was gory, profane and unbelievably awesome

    Oversaturation

    by lando griffin

I'm always worried that we'll be oversaturated with the trend of the times but the good (Dawn remake, Shaun, Zombieland) seem to outshine the bad (Diary, Day remake) That this is going to be on cable and has Darabont at the helm leads me to believe this will fall into the good category. When does this premiere? Oh yeah wasn't there an unaired zombie show a few years ago produced for CBS? What happened with that?

    Dead Set started off awesome...

    by warrensmooth

Great premise, decent characters, decent acting. It just didn't have an ending. If everyone dies in the end... who cares? You gotta have a survivor or two to make the other deaths matter.

    A 6 episode is perfect!

    by warrensmooth

It's long enough to establish the premise and characters but short enough to keep the costs down. It's essentially an extra-long pilot. If it's a hit, the 2nd season will be much longer.

    Titus, re: 6 episodes...

    by danielkurland

AMC/Darabont have re-iterated that the 6 episode season is kind of the approach taken with Breaking Bad's shorter first season (even though this wasn't the original plan). Basically, they understand the show isn't the easiest sell, so they're doing these six episodes, and if they're a success, they'll be given a full 13-episode season two to play around with.

    by mynamesdan

shame really, because Brooker can do no wrong as far as i'm concerned, but dead set was weak. It was really just an extended prank anyway- the original concept was beautiful, they were going to give the actual contestants of an actual big brother the fright of their fucking life. if only... if only...

    Dead Set and Charlie Brooker.

    by v'shael

Brooker is very funny, and the truth is, some of the Big Brother contestants have been so dumb, they could be fooled into believing a Zombie Apocalypse had taken place very easily.

Dead Set was awesome, even for running zombies

    by topher4801

I loved Dead Set even with the running zombies. The ending was great too. We need a nobody gets out alive ending once and awhile, like REC. BUT, I am a traditional, slow zombie fan and a HUGE fan of The Walking Dead. That said, if ONE zombie in The Walking Dead even looks like they're about to run, I'm done! With the TV series AND the comic book.

But the zombies have never been the interesting thing about the Walking Dead. As long as the characters are there, I've got high hopes for the show. It'd be ballsy if they made it black and white like the comic, but I doubt anyone would have the guts for that.

    @calloway98 - Here's how you do it.

    by v'shael

Make sure you're logged in.Now, go to http://www.aintitcool.com/userIf you do this, it will send you to your User page. The URL will change slightly, adding a number to the end of it. Something like http://www.aintitcool.com/user/43255You will see options like Track, Edit, View on the main section of the screen.Click EDIT.Now once the next page loads, you'll see a box called Account Information. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it on this page. But that's not what you want. You want to change the username, and unfortunately it's associated with your current email address. So change the email address field. You can get a free temporary email address which will be valid for one hour, from http://www.guerrillamail.com/ You might want to get one, in case the AICN software sends a confirmation email to the new address. I don't think it does. I think at most, it might send one to the old address asking if you really wanted this change made. Anyway, click the SUBMIT button. Now, you can create a new account, and associate it with your email address, and it shouldn't give you that error that you were getting before.

...this is going to suck ass. Frank has "taken it down a notch" with every film since Shawshank. The Mist is to movies what a bad acid trip is to taking drugs... makes you want to swear off the whole affair for a while. I see that the zombie/vampire zeitgeist has trickled down to television. What gives with this shit? Hollywood has turned into a giant carnival ride. I want off.
