GREEN LANTERN: THE SERIES Coming To Cartoon Network!!

Published at:  May 27, 2010 5:04:52 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

The chairman of Turner Networks unveiled a slide to Time Warner investors that read “Green Lantern: The Animated Series.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

The TV series is expected to launch in the second year after the film release.

Martin Campbell’s “Green Lantern” movie isn’t expected in cinemas until June 17 of next year, so I reckon that means the series will arrive in 2013.

It's hard to get excited about anything new cartoon network does anymore. If its not an CN original or the Clone Wars, it tends to get shafted time slot wise.

    KILL OR BE KILOWOG

    by imjustsaying

It's about god damn time!!! The Green Lantern series is just too epic to get all the good stuff into the movies. This was made to be a TV series, the action will work even better in motion than in the comics. The Green Lantern Corps is more interesting than the Jedi, and more intense than any other superhero comic out there. Basically what I'm saying is oh my god I can't wait. I hope this puts the Justice League shows to shame. Sweet stuff. GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY! GENNDY!

    why the long wait?

    by glenn_the_tool

why not premiere the series within months of the film's release in order to garner more public interest in the character? why wait until two years later, when either public interest in the property has died down? are they waiting to see if GL will be a hit and talks of a sequel begin stirring? and why make an announcement for an animated series this soon, three years before the show hits the airwaves? and will Paul Dini and Bruce Timm be involved in any way? questions, questions...

IGL: First Flight was pretty good, but, it being an animated movie, it did feel rushed. A TV show can iron that stuff out and really fill out GL's world.

Like Batman: The Animated Series good, not Comic Book Cartoons Aimed Exclusively at Little Kids Demographics. But that timeless sort of storytelling that kids can enjoy, but that ages well and has other levels they only begin to get once they're older.Or is that asking too much?-Cheers

    by nexxus7

and that'll be something. I'd prefer a realistic Final Fantasy-style approach, but even a Clone Wars approach wouldn't be bad if they were targeting the kiddies. JLA/JLU style would be okay I guess, but that's kinda already been done and done.

    by critter42c

The first year after the film's release runs from June 2011 to June 2012. The second year runs from June 2012 to June 2013 - this points to a more likely Fall 2012 release.

If they had said "two years after the release", then 2013 is more likely, but "in the second year" is odd wording - I would put money on Fall 2012.

Love the franchise and would love a series about the Corps! Finally DC steps up to the plate and starts promoting their Characters outside of the Comics. If you want to have lifelong fans, then you have to catch them when their kids with an awesome animated series thats as serious as it gets for a cartoon. I am the biggest DC Nerd you can find and thats because I fell in love with the Batman animated series when I was 8 or so. Thats the way to do it DC.
