Producers Considered Killing Jack Bauer Midway Though The Final Season!! Plus Who Else Might Be In The 24 Movie??
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
Interesting excerpts from the Hollywood Reporter’s interview with “24” showrunner Howard Gordon:
THR: So Jack lives. I know you’ve got the movie planned, but how much did you seriously consider killing him in the finale?
Gordon: We certainly considered it. We considered killing him earlier (in the season) as an off-rhythm thing. But every time we went there and penciled it out, it didn’t feel satisfying. It felt frustrating or it feltaffected or something.
THR: What about killing other characters like Chloe or Kim Bauer?
Gordon: We have to save some people for the movie!
THR: Is the plan to bring back series regulars other than Jack?
Gordon: Right now, yes it is (the plan) but because it is a fluid (situation), I don’t know. It is still in the early stages.
The “24” movie is being written by Billy Ray (“Shattered Glass,” “State of Play”), who had nothing to do with the series. It reportedly takes Jack Bauer to Europe and follows him through another day in his life (albeit not in real time, as the series did).
Premlinary ratings for Monday's series finale were meh. It was beaten in 18-49 by ABC's reality shows and CBS' sitcoms.

The "24" finale did, however, beat by a wide margin the season finale of "Chuck," which went out on yet another new all-time low.

Shit series finale so we can have a shit movie series
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
Thanks for everything
-
BUT...I feel like last nights finale did set some interesting things in motion, for a future film franchise. I also think a movie or 2 would really help 24, as you can flesh out a GOOD story for 2 hours as opposed to grasping for straws over 24 episodes. I'm taking the optimistic look at the jump to the big screen.
-
And here I was hoping for a 24-hour-long Jack Bauer movie, because "the cremaster cycle" and "Shoshone" were just too short for my taste
-

I guess the movie is to blame for that weak finale then
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
Absolutely nothing unpredicatable happen. It was like watching Law & Order: CTU. I guess they saved the ultimate plot twist for the series finale: nothing fucking surprising or extraordinary will happen and jack will just lay on a gurney for half of it. Thought they actually had some balls when they were making Jack the bad guy, though I doubt these moronic writers or any of the mouth breathing retard fans around here even realized that's what was going on. Tony was a bad guy last year, Jack is a good guy this year. Yeah keep cheering on this mindless shit you dumb fucks.
-
At least the title would make sense.
-
F U spell check
-
Your link, I think it is not connected to thing you think it is...
-
then brought him back in the final hour, it would have been a huge shocker, people on the internets probabaly would have assumed the death was faked but for alot of veiwers it would have been a shock to see jack walk in to a room to kill logan after watching him die 6 or 7 hours earlier, i loved the series finale, but i wish the show had more balls at times
-
Know the difference between Jesus Christ and Jack Bauer? JESUS DIDN'T SUFFER AS MUCH AS JACK BAUER DID. This show is fucking torture porn. It's 'The MR. Bill show' starring Jack Bauer. E-FUCKING-NUFF. I AM DONE WITH 24.
-
For the weak ratings! Dang near the worst character in 24 history! I'd even take a return of the cougar over Taylor!
-
This situation sort of feels like the X-Files sequel - a movie made after the conclusion of a TV series that was already on its last legs, that no one really wanted.
-
Whiny ass BITCHES.
-
First there's Headache Guy, whose life is so pathetic he dedicates it to watching a show he hates simply so he can deride other people for watching it. Commendable use of your time there bud. Then there's SmokingRobot vigorously proclaiming he's done with 24... you mean, now that the series is over? We're all done with it you fucking mongoloid.
-
Just sayin'
-
Oh, yeah, spoiler alert.
-
Ratings seem to be down across the board, ever since coming back from the Olympic break. It's like shows that were getting 3.0's are down to mid to low 2's. Shows that were in low 2.0's are even dipping under 1.9. Something major has changed and Network TV ratings are plummeting.
-
a nice Bourne-style movie would be the bomb too. and maybe we can see some tits in the movie? you know you want it!
-
"We're all done with it you fucking mongoloid."Kudos for that dude, that made me smile.
-
Honestly, Season 4 is the last good 24 season. I think I'll go rewatch that.
-
24 ended it's run by setting up a plotline for a film, x-files was just a cash in many years after the series had a satisfying conclusionIn many ways 24 the movie is basically 24 season 9, it's not a reunion or a reboot its a continuation of the characters and plot

I must just enjoy watching a show I hate
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
I mean, that is the only possible conclusion to draw from my disappointment with the SHITTIEST FINALE in the ENTIRE SERIES as the SERIES FUCKING FINALE. It couldn't possibly be that I have some sort of standards and won't simply accept whatever rehashed shit they offer me. Sorry 24 isn't a religion or a sports team or a political party to me, it's a fucking tv show, and when it's shitty, especially after getting promising for the first time in three years, I'm going to say somthing about it. You all just look like fucking sheep going "Now THAT is how you end a show" for what was clearly, the weakest fucking finale they ever had. They would have been a weak EPISODE let alone a FINALE, let alone a SERIES FUCKING FINALE
-
I know there already was a thriller made that was set in real time, but nobody remembers it because nobody watched it. So they could still do it -- have Jack solve a mystery and stop a terrorist event within 120 minutes. Another gimmick they could add is have the camera not cut away at all -- the entire movie is one continuous shot (of course, this would be simulated).
-
I really liked the finale.
-
My fiancee and i spend 75% of our nigts watching TV series, usually on dvd after the shows are over. Now that 24 is dead I have a huge void in my evenings. My all time favorites were The Wire and The Shield (which had the all time greatest finale in my opinion). We've seen all of 24, Sopranos, Rome, and Band of Brothers. Does anyone have any suggestions on another great series to start?
-
Gauging your taste from what you've already listed... I suggest "Deadwood".
-
It was called 24:Redemption and it was a bit lame.
-
seems like they will use editing to set up the story and characters then the last half of the film will be in real time with the beeping clock, i think this idea is pretty cool comsidering alot of little plot points or character indroductions can easily be done without real time (and might benefit from movie editing) and then the action and plot twist can unfold within the last hour of the film all in real timeThis stays true to the show but also uses the advantage of a movies productiopn values and editing to get rid of any filler stuff that was used on the show to keep the real time factor (stuff like a cut to a c plot line just so jack is given enough time to drive to a location)

Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World
by aka_gern_blanston
Are you really going to force your douchebaggery on another talkback? Okay, dude, you didn't like it. I think everyone on this site gets that by now. Now please, fuck off and let those of us that did enjoy it talk about it in peace. You're not going to change our minds, and we're not going to change yours. Let it go.
-
Thanks, that was what I had in mind. I was a little concerned because it only lasted three seasons, but it seems to get a lot of love on the talkbacks
-
Six feet under was a great show (very emotional and one of the best finales i have ever seen) OZ was also good, but not for everyoneIf your into sci-fi and haven't seen them yet, any of the 90's ers star treks are great to watch on DVD, especially deep space which continued a story from around season 4 right to it's end (the first 3 seasons are good but not very conected in terms of plot line)
-
Hopefully Jack Bauer won't be as pathetic as Gary Cooper in that movie, running all over town like a crybaby because nobody will help him. Loser.
-
Except for the hardcore fans. Whose going to care about some Bourne/Taken ripoff with the 24 title slapped on two or three years from now? -
The first few years they did it really well, but by the end, you could tell they wrote themselves into a corner.
-
It ended perfectly, with Jack becoming and odd combination, of Kwai Chang Kane, David Banner and Dr. Richard Kimble. Killing him off would've been a ridiculous stunt. I particularly liked the process of President Taylor growing a conscience; and having that be what ended up saving Jack. It was a great ending to a series that was uneven at times, but overall, entertaining to watch. I'm looking forward, to the movie. I hope they do it justice.
-
was an absolute joke, they should be ashamed of themselves for being so cheap and saving everything for the movie.
They made the entire finale about the shitty president! The most boring awful character in the history of tv!
I wasn't expecting a huge Lost-like finale but I was expecting SOMETHING kind of cool to happen. I figured at the very least, we'd get Tony or even Agent Pierce.
Come on, they couldn't even kill off Logan after the guy shot himself in the face! -
Thanks, I'd considered Six feet under as well as Deadwood as the next show to start, I'd forgotten all about OZ, but thats one that looked interesting too. My fiancee wont do the sci fi,but I might start the star treks on the side. She is pushing for The Unit, but for some reason that show doesnt interest me.
-
...Fox did. 24 should realize if you get off to a slow start to a season, you're going to lose your audience quickly. The stupid redneck storyline killed this season.
-
...the writer's abandoned the audience, repeated themselves again and again (how high is the mole count, now?), and the plots and characters got ever more implausible, stupid, and dull.I watched to the end, but it was like being at the deathbed of a long suffering friend: I'd rather remember 24 as it used to be--a breathtaking, white-nuckle E-ticket ride of a show--than how it ended.I'd like to blame Braga alone, but even he could not have drug this down alone. The finale was good, not great. The finale moments were very well done.I guess no one ever found the body Dana stuffed in the wall, though.... Maybe in the movie?
-
was that everyone tuned in for the premiere of the season and it was all that stupid bullshit about Africa. Then people tuned out.
By the time shit started hitting the fan and it was actually good, most people had tuned out. -
BAUER! Nobody is going to watch your shitty 24 movie ripping off the Jason Bourne movies. Was the Jason Bourne theme song by Moby playing at the end of the 24 Finale?
-
Is that 24 was a an okay show that became mediocre... and X-Files was an AMAZING series that still became mediocre... I really wish writers would quit when they were ahead.
-
Where the Arnold character talks about all the crazy situations he's gotten into in his life, and how the craziest part is that he keeps surviving. Jack probably past that point around season 3 or 4.
-
Bored at work so thought I'd start an informal pole.
-
How bout you start your pole while you think about Chloe somewhere a little more private, huh? :)
-
fuck yeah i would. i love her scrunchy face.
-
And nowhere near as bad as the worst series finale of all time, ST:Enterprise.
I rate the series finale 8 out of 10 as a TV episode, but only 5 out of 10 as a series finale. Some good moments with the President, but didn't really do justice to the 8-season legacy of 24.
-
Oh, Pole! I get it now!!!! (insert Beavis laugh here)
-
Cusick's free from Lost, they had better use him.
-
Sorry but 24 has been shit since the end of season 5, if you're still watching it you MUST realise this. What the fuck did you expect? - it would suddenly NOT be the show where the White House doesn't have panic rooms with guns or phones; where everyone addresses everyone else by their FULL NAME and TITLE; where a President who tried to commit like 50 acts of high treason can be announced to be helping with a peace treaty and no-one gives a fuck; where... ahh whatever, you get my point
You have to take the good stuff where you can get it and actually I thought the stupid US President got to have some good actin' scenes with the hot IRK President plus we got some good satisfying Jack and Chloe stuff. Yeah I wish there had been more Aaron Pearce, who was my personal favoutite ever since that episode in (I think) S5 where he casually leaned out the car and shot the guy in his flamethrower pack and blew the fucker up, but oh well...
Plus Logan is fucking awesome, he should have a snivel-off with Ben Linus, what a wonderful prick he is -
Back when they decided to kill Edgar, etc during Season 4 and 5. Yeah, let's kill characters people know and like just because we were stupid to kill off Jack's wife.
-
Before this season, I only watched the first two years then I sort of moved on. For some reason I decided to come back this season. I enjoyed the season. Yes it was goofy at times, but so were the first two seasons. Overall I enjoyed the season and the finale. I will see the movie, if there is one.
-
West Wing, Alias (though it does come to pieces towards the end), Arrested Development
-
Hah.
-
to make JB go off the deep end like that. 15 minutes of primo tail turns him into the mad killer.
Maybe he had a gypsy curse on him? -
They didn't want to repeat anything that had happened in the past for the finale? The same thing happened when Jack rode into the sunset (okay, walked) in an effort to disappear at the end of season four. Only he is off overseas this time it seems
-
I love 24, but dasaroo i hope your not saying the series finale was as good as Angel's
-
Could have used more action though. Farewell old friend.

Why was Season 6's finale so shitty again?
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
Compared to this one. At least that was something we hadn't seen before.
-
Given the fact that the show got the ax halfway through the season, I have to give kudos to the writers in attempting to give a proper sendoff under the circumstances.
As far as quality, you will never have Season 1/2 (minus Kim and cougar) greatness. Some very good stuff went on. At the end of the day, anyone complaining about the twists and the mole count, come on. Twisting the plot up and various "out of nowhere" betrayals were mainstays of the show. It is like the bar yelling "Norm!" It was losing it's novelty a long time ago and in order to see our great hero in action, you need to somehow insert him into the action. It becomes less plausible the more that occurs.
Law and Order: SVU, although the more dramatic of its procedural sibling, never gets any heat, meanwhile, these detectives, for as long as Jack has been around, crack every major case that comes their way. Just the four of them with some forensic assistance here and there. One ADA tries all the damn SVU cases. Retarded. How many suspects can Stable punch before he is demoted/fired? That's acceptable, but throwing Jack into another terrorist attack with back and forth loyalties of those he works for and against, is too much to suspend disbelief? 24 has never implied that it was a procedural. It is an action show that, especially early on, had a great head on its shoulders. The formula got a little played out, that is to be expected. It may not have always been A-game material, but Jack never disappointed.
His sendoff was a retread of a prior season, but how else could Jack have ended his spree of vengeance? Dead. No. You don't survive so much shit just to get unceremoniously shot in the head in the end. Jail? No. He is a hero, albeit a broken one, but our hero as the audience. He got shit on the whole show, no need to end it like that (movie following the finale or not). Let him go on the run. The only real way Jack will survive is off the grid. This is where his character needs to be. Always needed by his government, he can never rest. As much as they need him, they don't want him as their hero (realizing this sounds a little Dark Knight, forgive me, not intentional), only as a wanted criminal. Now he does not have to give a shit any more. He gets to leave a county behind that has never earned his loyalty or deserved what he has done for it. It was not a great season and not a great finale, but it was satisfying enough under the circumstances. -
I can't agree more with you about Star Trek: Enterprise. I loved watching the episodes (not great Star Trek, but good Star Trek). I never watched it when it was on, HD Net show three a day, I DVR them all and watched every episode. I never saw such a useless death as Trip's and the disgusting need to shove FatRiker and Troi into a series that should have used previous episode as its finale.
While were are on other finales and Scott Bakula, the Quantum Leap Series Finale is by far my favorite and most satisfying series finale. It gets some heat for ending on a note different than what the initial intention of the series, but I really disagree. It is clearly explained why Sam choses not to go home, and during the last ten minutes of the episode and rewards loyal viewers with a reference to an episode where Sam leapt into Al's timeline. -
who purposely gives everyone in here a headache.. I usually don't like to stir up shit in here, but when you call fans of ANYTHING "mouth breathing retard fans" and "dumb fucks" just because you can't gather the brain capacity to let people enjoy what they want without your useless stupid criticism and insults.. well, bottom line, go fuck yourself.
-
It would be a pile of ash right now. But really 24 was great for about 5 years.
-
He was a more solid hero than Jack, plus he could have played well against Logan. Also, it seemed last-minute and cheap to only have Kiefer intro the final episode. Why not gather all the key players from the series for a final photo, ala Vanity Fair, & have them seated in groups: presidents, CTU directors, CTU moles, IT teams (Edgar!), Jack's lovers, etc., THEN have Keifer make his nice little speech.
-
The final could have been better , I watched the end of Lost , then the end of 24 (even thought it's not the end)and I was left feeling indifferent and kind of glad it was all over ...I watched
"The Road" the other night and that simply blew me the fuck away , I'm hungry for something actually good now not just more hype.... -

Bathman, The X-Files had a "satisfying conclusion"?
by nasty in the pasty
For all the bitching about the last ep of Lost, The X-Files' last season/episode was FAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR worse and a TOTAL setup for a future movie to wrap up the alien invasion plotline, which the "I Want To Believe" movie most emphatically was NOT.
-
May 25, 2010 10:50:52 PM CDT
At least the X-Files attempted what LOST didn't even try
by amazing maurice
For all it's misgivings, the X-Files finale gave solid answers to all its mysteries - which were every bit as convoluted as LOST's.
-
Yeah, the movie did ultimately not give the "Real" ending fans maybe wanted (Jack being killed), but it was very entretaining. If "Taken" can be a huge worldwide hit, why not a 24 movie?
-
The series was over for years. The 24 film won't take too long to come out.
-
Is they can simply make it a kick-ass adrenaline action flick. Those do well in all countries. Jack Bauer is a natural action lead character.
-
It'll be interesting to see how they tackle the film.In essence, 24 was about a guy who worked for the Counter Terrorism branch of the U.S. government.By having him on the run from his OWN country, can it really be a "movie version" of the TV series?Food for thought.....
-
I just hope that in the feature film, CTU finally has a decent HR person who can run even a cursory background check before hiring new employees. After eight consecutive years of discovering "we have a mole inside CTU!" that was one plot device that had more than run its course.
-
big time!
-
the one that works for CNUT or whatever it's called? i think she was the one married to the Brit, you know, the one that looks like she could very comfortably take two "hot dogs" in her mouth at the same time.
-
That's what they should have done. Anyone can stay awake for 24 hours and everyone does in this show. But if each day was back-to-back that would make things more interesting. Bauer would have to be continually hooking his nuts to a car battery in order to keep awake.
-
Assuming it ever gets made. The audience couldn't even be bothered to come out the series finale, does anyone honestly think people are going to pay ten bucks (at least) for something they wouldn't bother watching for free? -
ended with the main character named Jack stumbling, clutching their wound and looking up at the sky. Come on Hollywood!
-
We appear to have similar tastes. I neighbor turned me on to Dexter and I have been in her debt ever since.
-
with the beloved characters, alive and breathing, or forget it. Anything less, or written to a timeline subsequent to the finale doesn't hold any interest for me.And I'll say it again, while there wasn't much to expect out of the Chuck finale, they did a good job with what they had, subject to similar conditions the 24 producers faced. The 24 ending was OK but had some structural flaws, and the Lost ending was very satisfying on one level, but failed entirely on another.
-
Breaking Bad and Mad Men on AMC...Rescue Me on FX.
-
Besides the obvious season 1, what was the best season of this show? I'm thinking about picking up some season DVDs since I don't have any shows on any more that I watch and create my own TV viewing schedule. After S1, is S5 the one to get? They all just seem to run together at a certain point.
-
Well, to answer the question, yes, I think I would. But I would much rather take a run at the actress who plays her. So, she's still a little "different" looking, but when playing Chloe, she does always put on a special "Chloe face". But back to the character. For some reason I really like it when she's being a real bitch. She evens mouthed off to Jack effin' Bauer: "Or what? You'll kill me, too?"
-
May 26, 2010 9:14:11 AM CDT
Rajskub(sp?), the actress who plays Chloe is very do-able
by turketron_2
I agree with BizarroJerry on that one. Remember seeing her on one of the late night shows doing an interview. She also popped up in Human Giant season 1 (haven't seen season 2 yet). Both instances she was very bangable.
Chloe... haha, she's so un-sexed and with that constant Chloe scowl. Would have to break out the paper bag... -
Season 5 for me is best season show. 1 was interesting as it introduced the format, characters, etc, but 5 was great from beginning to end, you can't go wrong with it.
-
as it was the best of the entire series.
-
were on any other network it would have been cancelled yrs ago
-
Was real time.
-
Shia Labeouf plays young Jack Bauer. See how he became the badass we all know and love. Narrated by Kiefer Sutherland reprising his pre-24 career of narrating movies with his gravely alcoholic drawl.
-

I thought the series finale was going to be 100 movie cliffhange
by tall_boy66
But they wrapped it up in the last 15 minutes or but it was fairly tense up until that point that everything was gonna go in the crapper. Still, Jack on the run is about a 30% cliffhanger so that kinda counts. Final scene was good too. And I don't think the movie will "flop" because I can't see them spending more than 50 mil, max, on the flick in total. (These are TV people, they can stretch out a buck) So it'll make it's budget back and we'll get a movie. If we get a second, that's debatable.
-
Yeah, her face is a little... distinctive, let's say, but that's why God invented doggy style. Same thing for Lady Gaga. If you don't look them in the face then it's cool.
-
Season 5 is the high watermark for the series and the year they won a whole wack of emmys. After that, people will hang me for this but I really like Redemption/Season 7 if only for who is Jack's primary antagonist for the whole day. The sense of history between the two characters give it some depth. And then there's Season 2 which is almost totally great BUT you hit this sub-plot with Kim Bauer with every single episode that drags each one to a total halt and the only way to enjoy it is to think of it as a flat-out comedy. Otherwise it's quite painful whenever Kim is on the screen. Afterwards, if we're still ranking stuff and not counting Seasons 1,2 & 5, 7, I'd rank the rest as: 4,8,3,6.
-
If you think about it. John and Zeus had to dismantle all those bombs. And later that night they flew to Canada to get Hans' brother.
-
Killing Jack Bauer would be like killing God, Jeebus, Buddha, Allah, Vishnu or Mary Kay....
How many people of different social and political ideologies worship at the shrine of the mighty Jack Bauer? He's a uniter, not a divider.... well, he'll divide you with a HALO Microtech, but that's just foreplay protocol if you piss him off or move his cheese.
Simply put, killing him would be a kin to deicide.
Regardless, Im tired of Jack Bauer having to save America. What has America done for him? NOTHING.... America treats him like a rented mule. Tony Almedia and Aaron Pierce too.
I say lets have Jack Bauer fight something thats worth his valuable time, a challenge like Godzilla, or maybe that Cloverfield Monster. How about Gamera, or the Aliens from the first two Aliens movies? If theyre not available, Im sure Rob Reiner, Rosie O'Donnell, Roseanne Barr and a Zombie Marlon Brando would make a GREAT Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse !!!!
Oh yeah, the prologue should include Jack warming by test driving the dental plan of that cunt rag Michael Bay while he's at it.... before he makes another hi-tech, high school driver's ed film that turns my beloved Autobots into a saggy diaper that leaks.
Now thats the recipe for good watchin' if you ask me.... -
during the second hour of the finale, as soon as chloe shoots Jack, I was like "ok, how much longer". I mean, what could we expect after that? A bunch of pretend politicians talking about boring crap? A bunch of pretend "computer analists" talking about firewalls and servers? The only interesting thing about this show was Jack running around killing people. The biggest conflict was "will chloe be able to transmit a sound file to arlo, in a world where everyone has a cellphone in their pocket at all times? WILL SHE?!?!" Imagine 2 months of that shit.
-
to cap that well. What? The next try is called operation kill? Guess they already sent him then. Carry on
-
Screw you haters. Chuck would do good on any other network. NBC does not know how to promote it. Chuck rocks.
-
Goes to show you that neslion viewers are dumb asses. Yeah let watch dumb stuff like movie start dance and people sing. Go to hell nelsion viewers.
-
He could wrap up a terrorist plot in 2 hours. As a big fan, I feel fortunate that 24 lasted as long as it did. After all, it was almost canned during the midpoint of the first season. The whole real-time premise was almost abandoned in season 2. I really think they should make the movie a team-up between Jack Bauer and Vick Mackie. Now that would be some serious ass kicking!
-
The movie shot in real time that you're talking about was called NICK OF TIME with Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken and Charles S. Dutton. And it was a great fucking movie you clueless bastard.
-
much more satisfying than anything else that night. The beginning of this season was weak, to be sure, but with the last few episodes available to the execs, it is clear they saw the turnaround, the promise, and so they renewed for next season--well done!
-
Along with everybody's wish-list for 24 characters to return for the movie, I'm looking forward to some big name actors, and old acquaintances of Kiefer, to join the fold. Just like Dennis Hopper, Lou Diamond Phillips, or even Mykelti Williamson this season...Kiefer has shown he likes to work with old co-stars again.
I think Michael Douglas would make an exceptional President for the movie! And I hope in the role of military types on Jack's side would be a Jason Patric or Kevin Bacon. Or what about Woody?!
And of course, it could be a safe bet that he'll finally get Donald on board so they can share the screen. I remember an interview where Kiefer had wanted his dad to play Jack Bauer's father but either Donald didn't want to, or their schedules didn't match up.
