I am – Hercules!!
Longtime “Smallville” showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar ("Shanghai Noon," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor") are now scripting ABC’s long-in-development pilot for a remake of (or maybe sequel to) the “Charlie’s Angels” series.
They take over from “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” mastermind Josh Friedman, who also scripted Steven Spielberg’s big-screen “War of the Worlds” remake.
Drew Barrymore, who produced both “Angels” movies, remains involved in the potential series.
This is at least the third attempt to revive the franchise for TV. The failed “Angels 88” was pitched to Fox 12 years before the first movie hit big screens. A 2004 script penned by Carlton Cuse for ABC failed to move forward just before Cuse was recruited into “Lost.”
TV remakes have a mixed track record, with “Bionic Woman,” “Knight Rider” “Eastwick” and “Melrose Place” all dying quick deaths while low-rated “90210” and “V” soldier on. “Hawaii Five-0” and “Nikita” join the broadcast schedule next fall.
