Joss Whedon, Harry Knowles, Stan Lee And Morgan Spurlock Team Up To Produce Big-Screen Documentary COMIC CON EPISODE FOUR!!

UPDATE: Ahoy, squirts. Quint here with an update to this story and how it may involve YOU. Yes, you. Randy red-headed blogger Harry Knowles (as Mike Flemming at Deadline calls him) has this to say about his upcoming producorial effort:
"Tomorrow, I'll be posting how each of you can have a chance to be a part of this Documentary too!"
So, keep an eye out. It would be awesome if one of the 7 featured geeks, whose Comic-Con travels, trials and tribulations will be documented for this film, comes out of the AICN readership... or, god forbid, the talkback. Where are you, DannyGloversDickBlood? You going to Comic-Con this year? heh Good luck, bossman! Don't fuck it up!

I am – Hercules!! It feels like I’ve been dorking out about this project since last year’s Comic Con -- but now the word is out. Three of the biggest geek magnets in the nerdverse – movie and TV writer-director Joss Whedon (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Toy Story,” “Serenity,” “The Avengers”), comic book creator Stan Lee (“The Avengers,” “Hulk,” “X-Men,” “Iron Man,” “Fantastic Four”), and movie critic/author/film festival organizer Harry Knowles (founder of the popular website Ain’t It Cool News) – are collaborating with Legendary Pictures chief Thomas Tull (“300,” “The Dark Knight,” “Watchmen”) and documentarian Morgan Spurlock (“Super Size Me”) on a non-fiction feature about San Diego Comic Con. Whedon, Knowles and Lee are executive producers on “Comic Con Episode Four: A Fan’s Hope,” which is being produced by Tull and partner Jeremy Chilnick and directed by Spurlock. Everybody involved, including Spurlock, is a longtime funnybook fan. The big-screen doc will follow seven fans from across America as they descend upon the decades-old pop culture mega-event this summer. Comic Con was born in 1970, the year before Knowles was. The son of two avid comic collectors, Knowles attended the con many times as a tot (when the show put greater emphasis on comic books) and I dined with him and his wife across the street from the 2009 edition. Knowles has numerous other film projects in the works, but I can't remember of which I'm permitted to speak. Whedon, Lee and Tull are no strangers to the con either. Spurlock attended last year to promote the special "Simpsons" 20th anniversary special he wrote and directed. We can only hope, of course, they hold off on the release of "A Fan's Hope" long enough to promote it at Comic Con 2011. Find all of Variety’s on the matter here.
