The trailer for Taylor Hackford's LOVE RANCH starring Dame Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci looks fantastic!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now this movie looks fucking fantastic. Seriously. It had potential before I saw this trailer... Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci starring in a biopic about Nevada cathouse owners? Come on! But having seen the trailer I'm finding myself genuinely excited for this movie. Mirren and Pesci seem to be at the top of their games and I get a distinct Boogie Nights vibe off of the film... from production design to acting this is hitting all the right notes for me. Watch it! Joe Pesci's pet frog Froggy (from "Lethal Weapon 4") can finally be unraveled. It's similar to Paulie's Robot from "Rocky IV": one of those passing, quirky references that became purposely shrouded in enigma, because within closer examination, it may have been the gateway to the KEY TO THE UNIVERSE as we know it.<P>I shall give this movie the utmost scrutiny upon its release, and then file my report to the relevant government agencies. A new age of enlightenment may soon be upon us, my homeys.

how Pesci drops in and out as a movie star: <P> He is in the popular eye after Raging Bull, but then drops off the map, only to reappear in Goodfellas. After that he made a few other films and then "retired" from acting. He would show up occasionally in a project here or there, like The Good Shepherd (probably more as a favour to his buddy). <P> I wonder if this is his latest comeback film?

I don't see it, Quint. Boogie Nights had a authenticity to it; it just felt like an accurate representation of a time (though I cannot speak for the porn industry with any authority so I'll leave that alone).<p> From the trailer at any rate I am not feeling it. It feels to me like a costume drama, one in which you know you're watching a costume drama, and never quite lose yourself in the story.<p> You know, kind of like just about every film Tom Cruise is in.<p>
