CBS Moves SURVIVOR To Wednesday!! BANG & SHIT To SURVIVOR Slot!! FIVE-0 To Monday!! CSI NY To Friday!! CSI Miami To Sunday!!
I am – Hercules!!
The only thing that would shock me more than CBS taking "Survivor" off Thursdays would be taking "60 Minutes" off Sunday.
"Survivor" was the top-rated show on TV's most important night. It's been airing at 8 p.m. Thursdays since 2001, when it took over the CBS slot held the previous season by "Diagnosis Murder."
8 p.m. Wednesday has been a weak spot for the network with (the now cancelled) "Old Christine" and "Gary Unmarried."
I guess they're out to crush J.J. Abrams' new spy series "Undercovers"?
To my eyes, "Lie To Me" looks like it's in as much of a death slot as "Human Target."
Wild!
The new CBS shows:
* BLUE BLOODS, from writer-producers Mitchell Burgess & Robin Green (“Northern Exposure,” “The Sopranos”) is an hourlong following several generations of New York cops. It stars “Bunker Hill” vets Bridget Moynahan (“Six Degrees,” “I, Robot”) and Donnie Wahlberg (“Boomtown,” the “Saw” movies) as well as Tom Selleck (“Las Vegas”), Flex Alexander (“One On One,” “Snakes on A Plane”), Len Cariou (“Brotherhood,” “Damages”), Will Estes (“American Dreams,” “Reunion”) and the piping-hot Dylan Moore.
* THE DEFENDERS, from writer-producers Kevin Kennedy & Niels Mueller (“The Assassination of Richard Nixon”), is an hourlong about Las Vegas defense attorneys. It stars Jerry O’Connell (“Carpoolers,” “Do Not Disturb”), Jim Belushi (“According to Jim”), Gillian Vigman (“Mad TV,” “Sons & Daughters”), Jurnee Smollett (“Eve’s Bayou,” “Friday Night Lights”), Tanya Fischer (“Life On Mars”) and Teddy Sears (“Raising the Bar,” “A Single Man”).
* HAWAII FIVE-0, overseen by writer-producers Peter Lenkov (“CSI: NY”) and Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman (co-creators of “Fringe” and writers of last year’s “Star Trek” movie), is a remake of the CBS original following a fictional Hawaiian police agency. Alex O'Loughlin (“Moonlight,” “Three Rivers”) plays agency boss Steve McGarrett, Taryn Manning (“8 Mile,” “Sons of Anarchy”) plays McGarrett’s kid sister Mary Ann, Scott Caan (the “Ocean’s” movies) plays Danno Williams, Daniel Dae Kim (“Lost”) plays Chin-Ho Kelly, James Marsters (“Caprica”) plays villainous Victor Hesse (who may be the series’ new Wo Fat) and the mountainous Kono Kalakaua has been reimagined as a skinny female detective, Kona Kalakaua, played by Grace Park (“Battlestar Galactica”).
* MIKE & MOLLY, from writers Chuck Lorre and Mark Roberts (“Two And A Half Men”), is a sitcom about a couple of Overeaters Anonymous members. It stars Melissa McCarthy (“Gilmore Girls”), Billy Gardell (“Yes, Dear,” “My Name Is Earl”), Katy Mixon (“Eastbound and Down”), Swoosie Kurtz (“Pushing Daisies”), Reno Wilson (“The Chronicle,” “Blind Justice”) and Tucker Albrizzi (“Big Time Rush”).
* SHIT MY DAD SAYS, from “Will & Grace” creators David Kohan & Max Mutchnick, is a sitcom about an unemployed journalist who moves in with his elderly, opinionated father, a retired surgeon and Vietnam vet. It stars William Shatner (“Star Trek,” “Boston Legal”), Stephanie Lemelin (“Cavemen”), and “Mad TV” vets Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan.
Coming later in the season:
* CRIMINAL MINDS SPIN-OFF, from Chris Mundy (“Line of Fire,” “Cold Case”) and Edward Allen Bernero (“Brooklyn South,” “Third Watch”), looks at a different team of FBI behavioral analysis unit operatives. It stars Forest Whitaker (“The Shield,” “Repo Men”) and Beau Garrett (“Made of Honor,” “Tron Legacy”).

course now Castle might see a BIGGER rating boost so there's good thing....
-
Well, my wife will be glad that she can watch BONES live instead of recording it while SURVIVOR's on. Although it would be nice if the CW flipped SMALLVILLE back to Thursdays now so there's no conflict with HUMAN TARGET.
-
R.I.P. Community....
-
It makes NO sense. Thursday nights have been as sacred as Sunday mornings for me for the last ten years.
-
Just saw the cast of TBBT on CBS Morning Show today, and it appears they may be introducing a love interest for Sheldon next year. She will be introduced in the season finale next Monday.
-
First you move Csi: Miami to Sunday at 10 and with different sports that fucker ain't starting til 11 or 12 on the East Coast. Then you take Survivor lead in away from CSI Vegas, and finally they move CSI Ny to friday death slot, although there's not much there so it should do well. I look for only one CSI to survive after this season. Maybe they can do a Law & order: Criminal intent and combine all of the shows and have each city do 8 episodes a season, it would save a shitload of money.
-
Its lead-in is now CBS' top rated show, Undercover Boss!
-
With DVR being in almost every home who cares if one show goes up against another. I have ATT and can tape 4 shows at one time.
-
Are they really going to name the series that?
-
She loves Bones and Big Bang. Our current DVR can only record one thing at a time thanks to the DirectTV guy confusing the hell out of her when they installed it. Too bad for her.

Uh, where is Parks and Recreation?

...which makes no fucking grammatical sense.
-
That show was on life support for a while.
-
The greatest show on network television is over and I guess the Sci-Fi and serial drama spin-offs are pretty much over too. Any ideas on what fanboys are supposed to geek over next year? LOST - gone. Heroes - gone. Battlestar Galactica - gone. New fall schedule? Absolute Shit. What am I supposed to watch? And don't fucking tell me 'Chuck' or I'll reach through this computer screen and eat your fucking face.
-
...that they have signed it's death warrant. Wait until football starts and CSI:Miami gets pushed back an hour or so. Numbers will be at Cold Case levels, which isn't bad but still worse than they are now. And Cold Case had a pretty decent lead in too in the Amazing Race. And to shutupfanboy, there is a little thing called a VCR. Mostly outdated tech now but you can pick one or tow up at a garage sale or get a DVD/VCR combo and tape the shows you miss. Really simple. We have 5.
-
they should feel comfortable replacing it with bang and shit on thursdays
-
A movie? A TV show?
-
Check out that massively aggressive move of putting its number one sitcom up against it. I like Big Bang Theory a lot, but I love Community.

I will, however, change the channel to watch Shat say shit
by sifodyasjr.
30 Rock has become annoying.
-
Watched long trailer and I'd rather see that show than NBC's smarm but not very funny comedies and biggest loser-type reality shows.
-
Guy is turning into Seth Macfarlane. If anything is going to kill his shows, it is splitting his focus so much.
-
Community is going to destroy that POS show....or not, shitty shows tend to thrive.
-
make me smile. It's not funny and certainly not Belly Laugh funny. Big Bang is and Two and Half Men used to be hysterical. Community is "look how clever and sarcastic we can be." BBT just is clever. And, again, funny.
-
Fringe!
-
With Survivor on Wednesday night, no more pre-emption for NCAA basketball (ok, it's only one week off for that, but it still counts as a positive). Besides, what else are you watching Wednesday at 8:00?
-
I don't know what the title is, but nothing on this schedule sounds like it might be the pilot.
-
10 years ago this month
-
Obviously, you should be watching Fringe. And True Blood. Until Game of Thrones comes around on HBO next year.
-
I share many people's grief here. But there's still a TON of good TV out there. The renaissance continues.
Justified - Easily the best, brightest and sometimes funniest show on TV in my opinion, after Lost and Breaking bad. Some of the best writing and characters out there.
Breaking Bad - THE best TV show out there after Lost goes away.
Dexter - Still great, with a dark, game-changing season closer to follow up on upon its return. Not everyone's cup of tea, I know, but still undeniably good, entertaining and genre-defying TV.Comedy? Well, here's a divisive issue. People either love or hate Big Bang Theory. I personally LOVE it. It's a throwback, sure. People have accused it of using a laugh track, even though it's filmed in front of a live audience. The hate for this show is palpable, with some even dirty-tricking the show by posting scenes minus the laughter to "prove" that the show it awful. But you could do that to ANY sitcom and because the show is TIMED to work with laugh-pauses, this type of deception would make any show look like unfunny nonsense. Laugh track or live audience. Community, in my opinion is also great. Thank goodness for bittorrent though, as networks pit genre-fan shows against each other. But both of these shows tend to have a gazillion haters that will tell you you're a flat-out idiot for thinking they're funny. For me, other comedies just didn't catch my attention this year with the exception of Parks and Recreation which I just discovered, a little late. To each his or her own, I guess. But I find all three hilarious, consistently. BBT tends to be fairly authentic, and although the characters are exaggerations, unfortunately ... not by too much.
Treme - Another one with divided opinions. I have faith that the show is building to something that will kick our asses. And it's really good in the meantime. But if you don't like the style of music, or hate it, you may not be able to sit through an episode. I tend to fall under the "not into that style but respect the heritage" category. And I've discovered that there are moments when my ears are genuinely opened and I find something to like.Big Love - I come from an at least temporary Mormon family and was baptized in the church. My views became incompatible with the church's when I was around early junior high school age, but found the people in the church to be fine, loving, generous and genuinely caring human beings. With a few exceptions. This show is, in my eyes, an example of what would happen if those exceptions were in charge instead of an aberration. And they had multiple wives. Bill Paxton is perfect in his role. I came into this show during this last season and I'm now going back to watch the earlier seasons. If they are even half as good as this last one, this could be in my top ten series of all time. Funny, smart, challenging and very well written. It turns assumptions of deeply religious people on their heads and delivers a realistic, stereotype-free portrait of the religious fringes of society without judging. Top notch. And yeah.. kinda creepy at the same time.
House - Yeah, I know. It's a very, VERY formulaic show. But Hugh Laurie is so iconic and perfect as House and the supporting actors/characters are so good, coupled with very high production values and fantastic guest actors, I've been able to overlook some of it's more predictable elements and just enjoy the ride it takes me on every week.
Luther - This is one you've probably not heard of as it's just starting to air on the BBC. I can see why Idris Elba (The Wire, Thor, The Office) is a producer as well as the main actor on this show. It's the perfect vehicle to show off his talents. A dream job. Supporting him are the sexy/wonderfully creepy sociopath-playing Ruth Wilson (Jane Eyre, The Prisoner 2009, Suburban Shootout) and Paul McGann (Doctor Who, Alien3, Queen of the Damned). Ruth Wilson plays what could turn out to be an iconic Hannibal-caliber bad-gal-sociopath murderer who simply got away with it. She's the one who got away for Luther and she spends her time trying to impress/taunt him in very intrusive and creepy ways. This is a show NOT to be missed, as it is a perfect mix of thriller, drama, procedural and noir-lite. Add a bit of dark humour. Get it any way you can. Not sure if BBC America is grabbing it. And if they do, I'm sure they'll sanitize it for an American audience assumption of frailty. It gets downright messy at times.
Doctor Who - What can I say? You love it or you hate it. Kids show or not a kids show? Who cares? It's the Doctor. Matt Smith and Karen Gillan are perfect IMHOP (in my humble opinion of pancakes). Did I miss anything? Of course I did.In Treatment - Last I heard, it is coming back very soon. The wait is far too long this time. This is a show that I thought I wouldn't get into. Boy was I wrong! I had a little time a burned through 2 seasons in about a week. It was almost all I could watch. It really sucks you in and considering how many episodes there are in a season (over 40?), it maintains a very high level of writing and performance from all involved. Supernatural - What can I say that hasn't already been said. When Ben Edlund came on board and took the reins the show went from good to great. And we get another season, which shocked the hell out of me since I now love the show. Usually that's the kiss of death.Californication - I believe this is coming back, and even though it's been spotty, I still like Hank's character. Nothin' but balls, man. Nothin' but balls. The guy is both a hero and a piece of shit at the same time and remains very like-able somehow. Stargate Universe - Did I ever think I'd get into a Stargate series? NEVER! But this one sucked me in, improved 10-fold and just keeps getting better than it has a right to be, considering what it is. Gets a little Greys Anatomy at times and I could do without the soccer-mom indie songs in some episodes as they do the "reflective montage" thing at the end. I could also do without the "hey look, it's a forest in Calgary" planets from time to time (sort of like.. "hey look it's a quarry!!, we've never seen that place before have we?" in Doctor Who). But those nit-picks aside, it's proven itself to be a contender and I hope it's allowed to continue to a decent conclusion/spin-off. (lol)Caprica - Love it or do not. I don't care. I happen to enjoy the hell out of it. So don't say there's NOTHING to watch after Lost leaves us this weekend. Because there's TONS. I'm sure you'll find something there to watch. And if not, there are one or two new shows coming that just might rub your nipples the right way. R.I.P. Lost, you'll be missed. -
somehow. Fringe is getting nearly perfect.
-
of Thursday because that day is melting the shit out of my DVR right now ... and there's absolutely nothing I watch on Wednesday. On the other hand, I can't help but think this is a classic case of Network executivitis, where they take something that's working fantastic and completely fuck it up.
-
I can record 2 shows at the same time so here we go:
Mondays- Chase and Castle (They'd better add 5-0 to my CBS on Demand section)
Wednesdays- Lie to me and Undercovers -
Don't agree with all your statements, but most. And I like your attitude. Meanwhile, if Survivor went away, I could care less. I've never watched more than 15 min. of it, ever.
-
That actually means a lot to me. I like to think we're in the middle (hopefully the best is yet to come) of a true renaissance in TV. One that at times rivals most motion pictures in quality. It's a good time for TV.
-
will be called BLEEP MY DAD SAYS.
-
i still don't get why so many people are asking what the animation is, it seems pretty obvious to me
-
That's dumb CBS, very dumb!! I agree this is a case of Executivitis.-----later-----m
-
I'll watch Survivor any time since I watch it On Demand.
-
Kinda weird. Anyway, I predict Survivor will be back on Thursdays by mid-season due to people who tune in to it in that slot without thought completely ignoring it on Wednesdays.
-
Of the list of shows (leaving out comedy) you listed only 3 are major networks shows. (Fringe, Supernatural, and House). And while, I'm a fan of House, geeks are not the target audience. I'm amazed at how "genre" type projects dominated at the box office, but the networks are scared shitless to try something new on television. Network TV is on life support. It's pathetic.
-
I have to agree. Genre shows they do add seem to have very little support and they lean heavily toward being very low-risk and cookie-cutter. Isn't there a major sci-fi show happening on AMC soon? I remember hearing something about that. Maybe it'll end up being better that these shows go to non-major networks, sell well on DVD, receive critical acclaim and perhaps get enough support to last long enough to come to fruition, story-wise. We could be better off taking a cue from the UK as well and just plan on a certain number of series/seasons, commit to it and let it play out. Instead, we invest our time as viewers and either the network screws it up by letting too many cooks into the kitchen (Heroes) or we find out the network never had the show's back in the first place (Firefly). And I'm still not sure why we still have NEVER seen a zombie series (or planned zombie series, with a shot pilot) pop up and actually get a season. Not that it would be good on a network, but if CSI can show what they show, surely we can have a few shots of people with their eyeballs falling out ripping sinewy muscle from a forearm and get away with it. Not that a zombie show would be number one on my list of wants. THAT would be a smart, original, non-MYSTERY based sci-fi show. Considering how much cheaper it's been lately to achieve decent SFX, they should be able to give us quality Sci-fi on a medium sized budget. Look at these little start-up guys on youtube doing quality work on a budget of near-zero. I know there's always union stuff and such, but there's got to be small-fx-house startups out there that could be had for cheap. The stories are out there. There's tons of fiction out there to be adapted and plenty of writers that would love a shot at long-form sci-fi, I'm sure. It's just so sad to me that all we can get are 5-year mystery, invasion or long-mission sci-fi stories when there's so much creativity out there that could take sci-fi on TV in all these new, interesting directions. Even the near-future stuff like Doctorow's Down and Out In the Magic Kingdom could be a new direction for creators to take. How about the moral dilemmas related to the coming age of VR and simulation? That has never been tackled in a mature way. Genetics? But instead we get same-old same-old. Time travel, "end of the world coming in 5 seasons" mysteries, invasions and the "everyone will get superpowers" thing. Meh. Maybe AMC will give us some good, hard sci-fi.
-
Watch just one, it has to be Big Bang Theory; but only because the awesomeness that is Hulu will have Community waiting for me the next morning. While CBS is stuck in the 90s with their video setup!
-
I've never been able to get it to work. Thank goodness for DVR and bittorrent. And I'd pick BBT, too. I've known slightly milder versions of those characters in real life. Slightly. Except Sheldon. He's a Vulcan freak.
-
F***in SMALLVILLE man. It's been FANTASTIC and continues to be the best show to nerdgasm to on Fridays.
-
Other than that, maybe I'll buy the LOST dvd's and start over. ...sigh...
-
The Walking Dead is in production right now. It's based on the best, longest running comic book series. I can't wait to see what they do with it as a TV series.
-
So, now that Survivor is moving nights (which is completely stupid) maybe ABC can give Flashforward another try. Survivor is the only reason Flashforward didn't have huge ratings. That's what happens when you put a new show up against one of TV's top shows.
Come on ABC, give Flashforward another chance!!!! -
Hm. Let's face it: everyone watches The Big Bang Theory to see Sheldon, who, like Pee Wee Herman (his closest cultural antecedent), is a completely static character. Great, but static - as the series progresses he'll grow about as much as Spongebob Squarepants. Community, on the other hand, has a great cast made up of superlative comic actors AND creators who want to give them actual narrative arcs and want the series to grow and change, rather like the great MTM shows of the past. There is no question which is the better show. As such I really resent this underhanded bid for geek relevance. Sorry - you'll forever be known as the Geriatric Network, CBS.
-
Followed by CSI.
