Vampire Secret Agent book BLOOD OATH optioned!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This is the first time I've heard of this particular novel, which isn't much of a surprise. I'm typically late to the party with modern music and novels and I'm getting quite tired of the Twilight-inspired Vampire craze.
However, a good story is a good story vampire or no vampire, so we'll see what this film looks like... Heat Vision has the story about LAW ABIDING CITIZEN and MR. AND MRS. SMITH producer Lucas Foster optioning Christopher Farnsworth BLOOD OATH and its in-process sequel called BLACK SITE.
The series follows a James Bond-ish vampire who was captured during the Civil War and had sworn an oath to President Andrew Johnson. From then on this vamp, Nathaniel Cade, has served every US President to present day.
There's a little Hellboy in there and a little Jack Bauer as Cade and a human handler investigate a horrible biological weapon that threatens America.
The book hits stands today (interesting timing on the announcement, yeah? Totally not pre-planned!) and if it turns out to live up to the fun premise then hopefully this flick sees the light of day. Books are optioned every hour and most of those don't make it, but Foster seems sure this one will make it.

I have had enough of fucking vampires to last a life time! More fucking Twi-shite on the way; Sam fucking Worthington playing Dracula; Dario Argento directing a new Dracula flick; true blood on the telly (although that is kinda coooool). Let's put a stake in the heart of this thing right now and lay it all to rest.
-
Don't these tweeners know they'll suck your blood and leave you for dead? What's sexy about that?
-
Have always been around. Complaining about a vampire 'craze' is like asking "Since when have movies been so popular?"
Vampires have always been there, for better or for worse. -
as the spy. The vampire angle doesn't really add anything. It could be a neat character if the vampirism was downplayed.Oh the stories a 150-year veteran spy could tell...
-
eh just an idea

Agree with you whole heartedly- vampires have been responsible for some of the very best movie output in cinema history- the original Nosferatu being my all time favourite! However, since Twi-fucking-lite we have a had a glut of mass produced shit hitting the screen (daybreakers being amongst the recent dirge of splooge) in the hopes of making a quick buck on the back of a new trend. Vampires need to get back into their coffins and bury themselves for 100 years before resurfacing. Maybe then they will be cool once again.

.... and I hear that a Near Dark remake is in the works. For fucks fucking motherfucking SAKE!!!!!!!
-
Isn't there one in development from a comic book or something? The title eludes me as I have become swamped in the mire of a million fucking vampire movies. It is about vampires controlling the earth and running out of blood, and having to hole up and fight as they are attacked by zombies. OH WHAT IS IT FUCKING CALLED , SOMEONE??????

He's played a vampire before but never with a beard. And a beard shows that he's serious and ready to kick ass.ROBERT PATTINSON WITH A BEARD.YOU KNOW IT'S COMING.
-
Up next, a Greek Titan in the old west

I've always favored werewolves to those poovy vampires, so why has no one adapted Robert R. McCammon's THE WOLF'S HOUR? It's about a werewolf OSS operative in WWII and it's one hell of a compelling read. Check it out.

from 1984. no goofy president angle, but a govt agent vampire kept in an ice coffin until hes needed. sent to the everglades to dispatch terrorists and some kind of swamp creature. good pulp fun.
-
regardless of genre. Unfortunately there have been 50 bad vampire movies for each good one. I liked 30 Days of Night (possibly because I like the comic) and Near Dark. But there has been a lot of crap (Van Helsing, Twilight, I'm talking about you). I liked Fred Saberhagen take on Dracula in the books. I wnat vampires to be something to be afraid of.
-
Mario Acevedo's Felix Gomez vampire novels (The Nymphos of Rocky Flats, Undead Kama Sutra, Jailbait Zombie, etc.) which give the genre a swift kick in the huevos. Or...Anno Dracula.
-
But almost certainly much lamer.
-
Please... please... please... please... please let this fuckin' vampire genre shit die for a couple of years.
-
They're remaking Near Dark? Well, hey studios out there... you need to remake Dreamscape, The Breakfast Club, The Goonies, Witness, Stand By Me, Dead Poets Society... to complete your raping of my childhood.

read. Still have it and I bought it when it first came out. This sounds an awful lot like that. An immortal soldier would have been better since vamps have been done to death. Maybe a curse was put on him by a bayou voodoo witch during the Civil War. Yeah that's the ticket.

Remember when vampires were kind of, you know...SCARY? Fucking Christ is there any way we could more pathetically normal?
-
I just finished reading it, and most of it feels a lot like the first Hellboy. Farnsworth truly tries to make the vampire relatable, but keeps him scary at the same time. Don't worry, Cade is no pussy-ass pedovamp who creeps on ugly teenage bitches. Farnsworth's history as a screenwriter really shines; the feeling like I was just reading a script never faded. I was fine with it; dunno how much it would irk any of you guys.

Did we have the same childhood??
They can keep the fuck away from KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE, though. That shit is CLASSIC. -
It had its problems, but on the whole I'd have tosay 30 DAYS OF NIGHT creeped me the fuck out. Danny Huston is a stone cold badass in that movie. Did a good job of sort of keeping Ben Templesmith's visuals, too.
More vamps-as-savage-animals tales, please. And whoever thought of remaking NEAR DARK - Go fuck yourself. Repeatedly. With something sharp, rusty, and unretrievable. -
That sounds like... not a bad film. Yeah, I said it.

God, this movie is so awesome. I noticed something while watching this now, and being a little older now, that gives the movie a little different vibe. Amy is an underage virgin. Charlie and her are just high school kids, and Dandridge seduces her. Apart from wanting to kill Jerry Dandridge for being a murderous vampire, Charlie has a reason to be pissed because he not only turned his girl into a vampire, but he fucked her. The bastard fucked his girl. When Dandridge bites into her neck, it symbolizes him popping her cherry. No, really, watch that scene, and you'll see. That's why when she's a vampire, she looks like a complete whore from then on. Charlie may save her in the end, but she's damaged goods. That relationship was going nowhere.

Greek Titan in the old west? Why are you giving Fox their next film for free?
