Ain't It Cool News (

A Piece Of Teaser/Concept Art From Spileberg's TERRA NOVA!!

Merrick here...
Hollywood Reporter has a glimpse at concept/teaser art from the Spielberg produced TERRA NOVA. You can find it HERE. THR desrcibes the show as being...
...about a family that goes back in time to save humanity's future. Oh yes, there will be dinosaurs.
Which all sounds awesome, 'cept for the presence of Brannon Braga (FLASH FORWARD, THRESHOLD, the demise of 24) as a Power That Be on the production. Those credits pretty much speak for themselves. Too bad - a higher-techier LAND OF THE LOST could've been a lot of fun.

They have to go back in time to save humanity?

    by Ingeld

Do they have to change events in the past? If so how far back do they have to go to do this? I mean Australopithecus, one of our remotest ancestors, lived 3.5 million years ago. Dinosaurs were wiped out 65 million years ago. It sounds a little like, hmmm, I have to go back in time change something in my past; let's set the wayback machine for Homeric Greece.

    by lochkray

And, yeah, it was "from" ol'uncle Steve. Gosh, I miss the classic Spielberg sci-fi. I hope he still has it in him. All of his recent genre fare, while some of it has been really good (ie; Minority Report), most of it has been pretty weak (ie; KOTCS, War of the Worlds), and none of it has had the WOW from his work dating from the original Jurrasic Park on back. Come on Steven. Wow me. And then get Lucas and Coppola to do the same. You guys gotta have it in you still. I can't just be a disenchanted generation X'er, so jaded and synical that my inner child has been suffocated by the harshness of reality.

Land of the Lost or Year One - Which Was Worse

    by Crow3711

I have to go with Year One personally. It's true that I couldn't get all the way thru land of the lost it was so incredibly not funny, and I managed to, somehow, leave all of Year One on....but Year One has to be the least funny movie ever made. Not even least funny comedy. Movie. Period. Honestly, I think I'd be more likely to find soemthing to chuckle at on Schindlers List than that piece of shit. And I don't find Schindlers Lost funny in any way, it makes me cry every time. But it's still funnier than Year Zero.

  • May 17, 2010, 2:37 p.m. CST

Yes, Braga wrote a few interesting TNG episodes...

    by Admonisher

...back in the day. But the more and longer he became involved with Trek, the worse it got. The trajectory here is: TNG, TNG movies (co-writing Generations and the severely overrated First Contact), producing/overseeing Voyager, and co-creating Enterprise. Not everyone will agree, but from my perspective Braga's tenure in Sci-Fi is a steady downward spiral of diminishing returns.

Right, 24 ending is Braga's fault?

    by MikeTheSpike

The show got tired around its second year, and is currently in its 8th. Not many shows make it that far, Merrick you twat. It would have ended this year whether Brannon Braga existed or not.

  • May 17, 2010, 5:17 p.m. CST

    Is 24 really Braga's fault?

    by smackfu

I mean if you look closely, you'll notice that Manny Coto is hand in hand with him every step of the way. Not only that, but Manny Coto was busy making 24 suck a full year before Braga came onboard. Manny Coto also presided over the failure of Star Trek Enterprise. Remember that? When he was brought in to 'save' the show and instead he put the final nails in the coffin? Seriously, go imdb Manny Coto and Brannon Braga, and then tell me which of these two guys has the shittier resume...while Braga was writing some of the best episodes in TNG's library Coto was belting out shitfests on The Outer Limits.

Braga did some good with his Trek work

    by Jaka

But the bad far outweighs it. I mean, I can't deny that he was largely responsible for more than a few of my favorite ever episodes. But daaaamn! Dude is definitely responsible for a huge number of bad ones, too. Most of them under the Voyager and Enterprise names (ESPECIALLY Enterprise). Voyager has actually aged pretty well, though. Re-watched the entire series not too long ago and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

  • May 17, 2010, 9:20 p.m. CST

    Re Berman being in charge

    by Jaka

I own every single thing that's been released on DVD under the Star Trek name. I know who's name is on what and I think I'd go pretty equal with the finger pointing. Not sure you could place more blame one or the other.

but Poltergeist had a pretty decent father in it. Anyway, Ingeld makes a good point. Why do they need to go all the way back to the dinosaurs, when it would make a better story to interact with early man?

I love a lot of what Spielberg has done, but in recent years it's become obvious that having his name attached to something does not mean it is good. I remember thinking his exec producer credit on Transformers was the only thing making me hold out that it could be good.
