NBC Adds To New Scripted Lineup With Four New Series -- 'The Cape,' 'Outlaw,' 'Harry's Law' And 'Friends With Benefits' - And Renews 'Chuck' For Fourth Season In 2010-11
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - May 14, 2010 - NBC has issued pickups for four more new scripted series with dramas "The Cape," "Outlaw," "Harry's Law" and the comedy "Friends With Benefits" - while renewing the action-comedy series "Chuck" for a fourth season -- all for the 2010-11 season. The announcement was made today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.
"The addition of these four inventive series to our new scripted lineup demonstrates a wide spectrum of creative stories," said Bromstad. "We are featuring popular, top-flight stars along with a strong pedigree of successful writer-producers. Likewise, 'Chuck' has proven its enduring appeal and we love the new creative direction that Josh and Chris have taken the show."
The four new series join previously announced "LOLA' ("Law & Order: Los Angeles"), "Perfect Couples," "Chase," "Undercovers," "The Event," "Love Bites" and "Outsourced" as the new scripted series that NBC has revealed for its new season.
"The Cape" is a one-hour drama series starring David Lyons ("ER") as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who finds himself framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. He is forced into hiding, leaving behind his wife, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin, "Life on Mars") and son, Trip (Ryan Wynott, "Flash Forward"). Fueled by a desire to reunite with his family and to battle the criminal forces that have overtaken Palm City, Faraday becomes "The Cape" his son's favorite comic book superhero -- and takes the law into his own hands. Rounding out the cast are James Frain ("The Tudors") as billionaire Peter Fleming - The Cape's nemesis - who moonlights as the twisted killer: Chess; Keith David ("Death at a Funeral") as Max Malini, the ringleader of a circus gang of bank robbers who mentors Vince Faraday and trains him to be The Cape; Summer Glau ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") as Orwell, an investigative blogger who wages war on crime and corruption in Palm City; and Dorian Missick ("Six Degrees") as Marty Voyt, a former police detective and friend to Faraday.
"The Cape" is a Universal Media Studios and BermanBraun production from executive producer/creator Thomas Wheeler ("Empire"), executive producer/director Simon West ("Con Air"), the executive producing team of Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun ("Mercy") and executive producer Gene Stein ("Accidentally on Purpose").
Starring Emmy Award winner Jimmy Smits ("NYPD Blue," "West Wing"), "Outlaw" is a new drama from executive producer John Eisendrath ("Alias," "Felicity," "Playmakers"). Cyrus Garza (Smits) is a Supreme Court justice who abruptly quits the high-level position. A playboy and a gambler, Garza had always adhered to a strict interpretation of the law until he realized the system he believed in was flawed. Now that he's quit the bench and returned to private practice, he's determined to represent "the little guy" and use his inside knowledge of the justice system to take on today's biggest legal cases. And he's making plenty of powerful people unhappy along the way. Jesse Bradford ("West Wing"), Carly Pope ("24"), Ellen Woglom ("Californication") and David Ramsey ("Dexter") also star.
"Outlaw" is a Universal Media Studios production along with Conaco productions. Eisendrath is executive producer along with Terry George ("Hotel Rwanda," "Reservation Road"), Conan O'Brien, Jeff Ross and David Kissinger ("Andy Barker, P.I."). "Outlaw" is written by Eisendrath and directed by George.
Emmy Award-winning creator David E. Kelley ("The Practice," "Boston Legal") brings his unique storytelling to "Harry's Law," a series about fate and the people it brings together, starring Academy Award winner Kathy Bates ("Misery," "About Schmidt").
Harriet (Bates), Matthew (Ben Chaplin, "Me and Orson Welles") and Malcolm (Aml Ameen, "Kidulthood") couldn't be any more different. Harriet is a curmudgeonly ex-patent lawyer who, having just been fired from her cushy job, is completely disillusioned with her success and looking for a fresh start. Her world unexpectedly collides with Malcolm's -- a young man trying to figure out life. When he finds out Harriet is a lawyer, he begs her to represent him in an upcoming criminal case. Matthew, a dreamer at heart and also recently fired from his job as a high school teacher, is introduced to Harriet through Malcolm, a previous student of his. When these three cross paths, they realize they're all looking for a fresh start. Now, the most unlikely of people are starting a law practice in the most unlikely of places -- a rundown shoe store. "Harry's Law" also stars Brittany Snow ("Hairspray") as Harriet's assistant, Jenna Backstrom and Beatrice Rosen ("Dark Knight") as Eve, a high school French teacher.
"Harry's Law" is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with David E. Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television. David E. Kelley ("Boston Legal," "The Practice") and Bill D'Elia ("Boston Legal," "The Practice") serve as executive producers. D'Elia also serves as director.
From Oscar and Emmy winner Brian Grazer ("A Beautiful Mind," "Arrested Development"), "Friends With Benefits" is a half-hour comedy revolving around a group of twenty-something singles as they navigate the difficult, and often confusing, world of dating. Ben Weymouth (Ryan Hansen, "Party Down") is on the hunt for the perfect woman who meets his unique set of standards, while his best friend, Sara Maxwell (Danneel Harris, "One Tree Hill"), is just looking for a man to settle down with and raise a family. Ben and Sara have fallen into the habit of turning to each other for moral and physical support as they wait for Mr. and Ms. Right to arrive. Their friend Aaron (Fran Kranz, "Dollhouse"), a romantic at heart, doesn't approve of Ben and Sara's complicated friendship, but he, along with womanizer Hoon (Ian Reed Kesler) and straight shooter Riley (Jessica Lucas, "Cloverfield"), are all distracted with their own dating trials and tribulations.
David Nevins ("Lie to Me," "Arrested Development") joins Grazer as executive producer for Imagine Television. Also serving as executive producers are David Dobkin ("Wedding Crashers"), who directs the pilot, writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber ("(500) Days of Summer"), and Jeff Kleeman. "Friends With Benefits" is a production of 20th Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and Big Kid Pictures.
Now in its third season that concludes with a two-hour season finale on Monday, May 24 (8-10 p.m. ET), "Chuck" is averaging a 2.4 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 6.6 million viewers overall. "Chuck's" ratings increase significantly when all time-shifted viewing is added to its results, growing this season by an average of 22 percent in its 18-49 rating and more than 1.1 million persons in total viewers when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results from Nielsen Media Research.
Zachary Levi ("Less Than Perfect") stars in the title role as a regular guy working at a Buy More electronics store who becomes the government's most vital secret agent. This season, Chuck was transformed into the Intersect 2.0 after another data download into his brain. This time around, he not only knows government secrets, but he also is well equipped with deadly fight skills. Chuck has the potential to become a real agent and gets a helping hand from one of the CIA's top agents and his dream girl Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, "Gone").
The ever stoic Colonel John Casey (Adam Baldwin, "My Bodyguard," "Firefly") returns with an unlikely new partner, Chuck's best friend, Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez, "Without a Trace"). Also starring are: Sarah Lancaster ("What About Brian?") as Chuck's ever-supportive sister Ellie and Ryan McPartlin ("Living with Fran") as Devon Woodcomb (also known as "Captain Awesome"), Ellie's husband. Chuck's Buy More team consists of Big Mike (Mark Christopher Lawrence, "The Pursuit of Happyness") and the Nerd Herd, which includes Lester (Vik Sahay, "Time Bomb") and Jeff (Scott Krinsky, "The O.C.").
"Chuck" is co-created by Josh Schwartz ("The O.C.," "Gossip Girl") and Chris Fedak, and is executive-produced by Schwartz, McG ("Charlie's Angels," "We Are Marshall"), Fedak, Allison Adler and Matthew Miller. "Chuck" is produced by College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
NBC Announces Pickups For New Drama 'Lola' ('Law & Order: Los Angeles') and Returning 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' and 'Law & Order' Ends its Historic Run on NBC May 24
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - May 14, 2010 - NBC has picked up the new drama "LOLA" ("Law & Order: Los Angeles") as well as renewed "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" for the 2010-11 season. In addition, NBC will end its historic and record-tying "Law & Order" when the mothership series concludes its 20th season on Monday, May 24 (10-11 p.m. ET).
The announcements were made today by Angela Bromstad, President, Primetime Entertainment, NBC and Universal Media Studios.
Jeff Gaspin, Chairman, NBC Universal Television Entertainment said, "The full measure of the collective contributions made by Dick Wolf and his 'Law & Order' franchise over the last two decades to the success of NBC and Universal Media Studios cannot be overstated. The legacy of his original 'Law & Order' series will continue to make an impact like no other series before."
Bromstad added: "'Law & Order' has been one of the most successful franchises in the history of television, which is why it is so critical that we continue this important brand and our relationship with Dick Wolf and his team with 'LOLA' and 'Law & Order: SVU.'"
The brainchild of creator and Emmy Award winner Wolf, "Law & Order" has spawned one of the most successful brands in primetime television. It is the 1997 Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Drama Series and the record holder for the most consecutive (11) nominations in that category for a primetime series (tied with "Cheers" and "M*A*S*H"). It premiered on September 13, 1990, and eventually tied "Gunsmoke" as the longest-running drama series in television history.
The new "LOLA" ("Law & Order: Los Angeles") is a procedural crime drama that will follow the theme and storylines similar to the "Law & Order"-brand series on the streets of Los Angeles. The series, from executive producer Dick Wolf and Blake Masters ("Brotherhood"), is a Wolf Films production in association with Universal Media Studios. Casting and pre-production work are continuing.
In its current 11th season, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" has delivered a 2.9 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 9.3 million viewers overall. "Law & Order: SVU" is NBC's #1 scripted series this season in total viewers. Since moving to Wednesdays (10-11 p.m. ET) on March 3, "SVU" is #1 in the time period in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and other key ratings categories and has improved on NBC's average rating in the hour during the traditional 2008-09 season by 29 percent in adults 18-49.
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is a hard-hitting and emotional series from NBC's "Law & Order" brand as it chronicles the Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department, the elite squad of detectives who investigate sexually based crimes. The drama follows Detective Elliot Stabler (Emmy Award nominee Christopher Meloni), a seasoned veteran, and his partner, Detective Olivia Benson (Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Mariska Hargitay), whose difficult past is the reason she joined the unit.
Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) oversees the unit while Detective John Munch (Richard Belzer, "Homicide: Life on the Street") brings his acerbic wit and street-honed investigative skills to the team. Munch's partner, Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice-T), adds his unique sense of humor and investigative experience. Forensic psychiatrist, George Huang (B.D. Wong) and Medical Examiner Melinda Warner (Tamara Tunie) uncover forensic evidence.
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is a Wolf Films production in association with Universal Media Studios. Wolf is creator and executive producer; Neal Baer ("ER," "China Beach"), Ted Kotcheff ("Fun with Dick and Jane," "Weekend at Bernie's") and Jankowski are executive producers.
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" continues to air in its ninth season on USA Network.

LOOOOOOOLA! LO-LO-LO-LOOOOOOOOLA!
-
It's the season finale...and no talkback?? c'mon!!
-
That's cool. Anyway: I'm not surprised Heroes was canceled, but last season was a definite improvement and I at least wish they had been allowed an ending. Maybe another network could say "fuck it, let's give them what they really want" and pick up a SYLAR spin-off...
-
Also, having no Supernatural talkback is fucking shit!!
-
My God, it sent shivers thru me. Wow.
-
..I know!!!....i was shocked!!! :-)

Good going NBC!
-
and look shit. No polishing turds.

Everything after season one felt like they simply never had a plan. How did such a good show not really last beyond season one? It became a living joke. Final season became a living nightmare.
So now Heroes, Lost, Jericho, and Battlestar are over.
What will we turn to for good scifi TV?
Stargate Universe stinks; some of you like Caprica: I don't and many others don't too. Either way, Caprica isn't exactly "the next big thing"
I was hoping for V the series but I don't know.
crud. It feels like 5 years of TV, a whole era, is coming to a close, for both ABC and NBC.
Crud, I'll do what I always do: take the summer off, then see what my sister and her friends are watching; they're usually a good measure for that. -
Following on from the seemingly never ending focus on only a few types of scenarios and protagonists, I propose the studios mix up their lack of imagination.
How about a series where a masked non-superhero hunts down and guts lawyers from legal practices that specialise in getting the rich guilty off; with a romantic interest from a hospital emergency department that treats nothing but sprained toes. -
...sure there are some Heroes fans out there who are disappointed by the decision not to finish the story arc to it's conclusion.
-
.......man has a backbone!!!!
-
makes me :( because that's two Party Down series regulars who won't be back for a hypothetical season 3. Happy for Hansen, but sad because the best comedy you're not watching had its heart ripped out (Adam Scott now a regular on Parks &Rec), and this. If CBS' pilot True Love gets a series order, there goes Lizzy Caplan, who stars in that show.
-
If memory serves me well.
-
of your prospective series at your own stupendous risk.

Fringe is the only sci-fi worth a monkey shit on tv right now. Watch that. And pray that HBO hurries up and rushes Game of Thrones to air.

Of that phrase a la "This is Sparta!"

Cancel L&O:NY for L&O:LA, cancel Heroes for The Cape, bring back to NBC David Kelly and Jimmy Smits in lawyer shows.Bring on a clone of FriendsWhile having a show about US Marshals shot in N.M. called "In PLain Sight" on sister channel USA Network, pay Bruckheimer millions to do a US Marshal show shot in LA called The Chase.Fire Conan and bring back NBC West Coast's favorite son Jay Leno.NBC can kiss all those born after 1975 good-bye. the season finale of Supernatural was good. I'm gonna watch it tonight, but I want to know if I should lower my expectations from that epic heights at which they currently rest.

by merlin_ambrosius
Geez Louise
-
CAN IZ WERK AT NBC??
-
...the two girls boning each other. Otherwise, I'm not buyin' it.
-
...that there will be no finale. The series is over. But both of those articles supply no sources, so maybe they're just assuming that's the case. Either way, I stopped watching a season and a half ago. But it would still be nice for the series to have a big, giant finale.
-
so this is how SMALLVILLE ends the 9th season??? I was expecting....MORE!!
-
That photo looks like some 12 year old with photoshop put it together.
-
the episode was really good until the ending.....like the Supernatural ending. just left me with this "how unoriginal" and "blah" taste in my mouth....
-
who was the "old woman knitting" and the "people" who were attacking Green Arrow????
-
I saw black-skined cankles!
-
Maybe the people attacking him were Parademons?? Remember the hint about "Apocalypse" coming. :)
-
You know what's fun to do to a group like that? Introduce crab lice. Then laugh from a distance.
-
...I do remember the few hints about Darkseid.... I thought Amanda Waller died??
-
Granny Goodness :)
-
...the old woman COULD be someone working with Darkseid. She did go into Cassidy's hospital room when she died. maybe Granny Goodness.....
-
I see this a lot, this delusion that Heroes had righted itself in season 4. Fuck that. Was it better than the atrocities of S2 and S3? Sure, but that's like improving from AIDS to Herpes. S4 claimed its rightful place alongside those other inept abortions when it was revealed that Samuel's motivation behind all his conniving and evil deeds... was to win his old high school girlfriend back. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?!?! The rest of the season dribbled from Tim Kring's asshole like so much rancid diarrhea. Fuck that show and its creator forever. I'm elated it's dead.
-
great minds think alike. haha
-
that Summer Glau kills herself when The Cape is canceled.
-
They are taking that promo image seriously??? Bwwaaahahahhahahahaha!!!
-
That's like calling Arrested Development long running. How can you mention both Heroes and Law And Order as long running in the same breath? Dumb.

I watched all of season 1 (great until it tanked the last episode), season 2 (god awful), and the first few eps of season 3, then couldn't stomach it any more. Was the end of season 3, or season 4, an improvement? Worth the time to watch? And did the last episode end on a cliffhanger, or is it a proper ending?
-
It COULD have setup one more season, but it also worked as a series finale too. I guess the future of that universe will be left to fanfiction now.
-
Seriously, that promo picture is friggin' HILARIOUS. I expect cheese of the highest caliber.
-
That'll show them.
-
Awesome. And the part about Kring's dribbling asshole was a nice touch, as well. Thank you, Liberty Valance. I salute you.
-
When I first saw that promo I thought it was a picture of a guy in a raincoat holding a garbage bag.
-
So they cancel Law & Order and greenlight Law & Order: Los Angeles, they cancel Heroes and greenlight The Cape. Do they think people will be more inclined to watch a different incarnation of the same show because it's "fresh"? I can't speak for everybody, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that. Is it just so that they don't have to film in New York anymore?

or he's crying like he did in dirty dancing
-
He seemed to really love doing that show. No matter what he does, fans will forever cock their heads at him and squint.
-
as the show that had potential until the Season 1 finale came out and was one of the worst things I've ever seen. And I gave the show PLENTY of time after that to improve. It never did. GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE. Now I see recaps of episodes anymore and think "Oh god I'm so happy I gave up on that". Now I can just forget.

yeah the Heroes wrap up will be similar to the rome and deadwood
by bathman
in that it will never happen
-
grabbed Green Arrow (not the Kandorians). I hope Tess isn't really "dead" because they should've killed off Chloe already. I'd rather have Tess return than Chloe.
-
keep Heroes afloat for another year or two. I assumed the same about other shows, too. I was wrong. Oh well. At least it went out improving slightly.
-
More like LOL.
-
strange. The closing shot spoiled what should have been the show's true end.
-
...Heroes never improved. I stopped watching in the middle of season three when I realized it felt like I'd become stuck in a temporal loop. The same shit kept happening over and over with slight variations on the themes. I've never been a huger superhero geek, though, so getting through 2 1/2 seasons was a big deal for me. I have friends who still watch it religiously, though. Most of them still gather at the same place I used to go watch it so they can discuss it when it's over. It would be cool if there does end up being a mid-season wrap-up for those people. They deserve it for sticking with the show that long.
-
that pre-credit sequence was one of the best scenes of the whole series.
-
Heroes did improve after how bad season 3 got with the Fugitive storyline. Yet, the finale was so stupid that season 4 actually did a good job of giving it some closure that was good. I am ok with it being canned since all it does is set up for online bashing. NBC is a kiss of death. The replacing old shows with ones that have the same premise makes no sense. They have no idea what they are doing and bringing back Chuck whose ratings are the same if not worse then Heroes is ass backwards. They are just trying to remove all the old shows to show how trendy they are with lesser versions. I am sure people will watch since most of their demographic is older people who won't notice the difference.
-
it had really good writing and the fight scene at the end was pretty cool but some of the acting was weak. the director let them slide.
big plot points though. Lois knows.
Tess gets herself messed up.
Clark got his red and blue suit from Mom.
Granny Goodness and the parademons herald the coming Apokolips. -
Still, I'll watch ANYTHING with Summer Glau in it.
-
The old woman's bag had a Red X next to it which means it could be Martha. As for who attacked Ollie, it could Brainiac or something other then Darkseid's minions. I am routing for Darkseid, but something just don't match up. Also, why not to kill Chloe who has no contract for next season.
-
the non powered hero wannabe bullshit. It's fucking stupid and played out. Talk about a one-note gag.
-
What. The. Fuck.
And fuck you, AICN, for no Supernatural TB. I have man-love for the Winchester boys! -
It's a mystery to me. After such a strong debut. Had massive ratings and appeal. WTF happened? Can they still blame it all on the writer's strike?
-
They did this show already... it was just called Friends; and some of them boned each other.
Next... -
Is Paul Simon doing the music?
-
Season 2 didn't have the strong mystery element like 1 did. Plus, you added a number of non-American characters with sub-titles, most Americans' don't care for that. Which explains why it does well overseas. Also, most of the new people were a waste. I liked the Generations aspect of the show as well as Adam. I still don't understand the hate for 2, yeah it has flaws, but every show does. Season 3 was too much at once. Not enough time to build up the super-villians and not enough time given to show the reality of the government going after them. Sylar's flip flopping killed his character and he should have died with Nathan at the end. Yet, he had Star Trek coming out and they weren't going to lose him so they flip flop with him in season 4. Season 4 was better, but it suffered again from too many rushed things as well as a budget slashing. The Carnival storyline was probably two or three episodes too long as well as introducing HRG's girlfriend. The show needed a better editor and someone to reign in the plots as well as a producers who was able to sign some of the good talent while getting rid of the bad like Ali. It also didn't help that it was getting killed online by people who were praying for a legit superhero show. Yeah, it had problems, major ones, but I still would take it over 95% of what is on TV today. I also think its a mistake not trying to do a finale via mini-series since the ratings are going to be better then a show about Topher Grace trying to get laid. Love the guy, but no thanks.
-
...the same ratings. Heroes is, evidently, an expensive show to produce. Definitely has a larger cast than a lot of other shows. That's why something like Chuck can get renewed while Heroes gets canceled.
-
Someone shot the Ol' Yeller that was Heroes. It lost its luster after 2 seasons.
-
"Harry's Law" sounds like "Ed" - that Tom Cavanagh show from 2000 where a guy ran a law practice out of a bowling alley.
"The Cape" .... Did somebody say Kick-Ass? Sounds like a Big Daddy solo series, toned down for Disney owned ABC.
The rest? I can't see them lasting too long. No way will another Law & Order series survive. Why cancel the 20 year old original only to create a newer version? Apart from costs, it makes little sense. Will this stand any more of a chance than the stillborn L&O:Trial By Jury? Probably not.
I agree that Heroes time has probably come, for a who host of reasons. My only complaint is the lack of resolution to the (minor) cliffhanger season ending. -
The Christian guy.
-
20 seasons isn't nearly enough! Another great show cut down in its prime... :(
-
the only shows I'm honestly interested seeing is more Spartacus:Blood and Sand and the return of Conan. I have to admit I haven't gotten around to watching fringe at all this season, plan to play cxatch up at some point though.
TV is just shit right now.I got to a point that I couldn't take all the reality tv bullshit any more.
if it weren't for The Daily show,South Park,Real Time with Bill Mahr, and Spartacus, there wouldn't be anything to watch.Even my old guilty pleasure, American Idol has totally jumped the shark. -
I stared at it for like a minute straight and I still can't make out what the fuck that guy is doing. Some promo shot.
-
Seriously? WTF.
-
on heroes spectacular flame-out. I don't think any show has ever squandered such promise. RIP
-
"question about the Smallville finale...and possible setup
by Acid_Frio"
Someone speculated on twitter it was Granny Goodness -
And I like the theories about Granny Goodness and Parademons. Makes perfect sense to me after the "Apokolips/Apocalypse" teases earlier this season.
-
i just read that that was granny goodness at the end, so tht means
darseid will be the big bad next season maybe theyll incorporate all
the evil gods into smallville FINAL
SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
... makes me miss THE WEST WING. The last couple seasons were incredibly prophetic. Too bad we can't have another four seasons or so. It's been four years, just pick up with President Santos' re-election. Rob Lowe has a new deal with NBC, so bring him back as Communications Director. Bradley Whitford's show on FOX will surely be canceled, so bring him back as Chief of Staff -- hell, bring Colin Hanks along, too. And Alan Alda as Secretary of State, with appearances by Ed O'Neal as Vice President Baker and Martin Sheen as Bartlet. NBC needs a show with star power and THE WEST WING had the best cast on television. I think now that people have had a breather from the show NBC would be able to bring it back with a lot of energy and a lot of renewed interest. Just sayin'.
-
...THE CAPE looks unbelievably retarded.
-
I know other people have said it, but they have said it because that is exactly what it looks like.
-
EVERY problem Heroes had was present from the beginning, it was just that the first season had like 5 good to pretty good episodes and a few decent cliffhanger endings to some eps. The good episodes made you forget, temporarily, that the show was a dumpster fire from the get go. The subsequent seasons lacked the safety net eps so all the many flaws were even more apparent.
-
Nice looking forward to watching it. This season Of No Tights No Flight has been pretty damn strong overall and it had a few really good episodes.
-
That garbage bag cop doesn't look too promising
-
There are some directors, actors etc who are so talented that they make everyone else around them perform better then they ever have before. Kring is the exact opposite of that... his presence destroys all potential and talent... I can't imagine anyone with half a brain wanting to be associated with anything he does.
-
Seen in the reflection of Clark's eyes at the beginning of the ep? Or was I seeing things?
-
I'm sure you're extremely happy with Heroes being canceled, so congrats to you. Hope you enjoy all the Cop, Courtroom, Medical dramas NBC will be peppering their airwaves with to try and mimic ABC & CBS.
-
"Investigative blogger?" I can see it now. "Cape, u r in ur mishinz, stoppinz urz vilinz 4 teh lulz." Sorry, you lost me with "Investigative Blogger."
-
Heroes.
-
Did nobody else notice that, or is that not *the* Conan O'Brien?
-
The Cape cancelled after 6 episodes... And we'll be calling it the curse of Summer Glau...
-
Kiss of death girl has been in, what, FOUR shows that got canned so far?
Plus she can't act. -

Boner alert for the brunette chick in Friends with Benefits
by tall_boy66
Yes, it'll be gone after 4 episodes but I'll be fapping all the way.
-
Really bad.
-
i have no reason to ever watch nbc again. fuck them.
-
I can come up with shit as bad as that, easy
Hell, I could come up with all those in an afternoon and collect a years pay
Which, apparently is what someone did -
I really cannot believe it, but somehow NBC managed to come up with a superhero themed show that looks like it will be worse than Heroes.
-
yeah Mom sewed up his suit for him.
but I don't think he'll get to wear it. maybe he will but I seem to recall that there was a problem with royalties to the creator's estates.
AFAIK it's in 2013 that the rest of the royalty rights get transferred back over to them.
Is that why the plane with the banner said 2013 in the flash forward? -
writing was always shit but the behind the scenes work was fantastic.
-
... that silly cop turns caped vigilante nonsense? i hope the later fails evne at pilot stage! Good grieve! At least HEROES had interesting characters and people with real super-powers. Well, at leasy CHUCK gets a new season, thank goodness for small mercies.
-
Heroes died more than two years ago...except NBC.The Cape? Looks like he made it out of used raincoats and garbage bags.I like Smits and Pope, so I will give it a look, despite it being a legal show.
-
looks like it all caught up with him at once
-
another dancing with the hasbeens or idol-ish show
or kardishains(sp?) or hidie and spenc or any reality crap -
Who the woman knitting was seems irrelevant but the possibility that she was carrying the helmet of Nabu in her bag is high. I'd much rather see Tess die than become the next Dr. Fate on the show but whatever works, I guess.
About The Cape - It's about a cop with no powers who dons a costume and fights crime with a billowy trash bag? If my television were a toilet I'd be hitting flush every time such a show came on it. -
dark man...checkthe spirit... checkrobocop...checkmarvel comics....checkkick ass without the cute little girl with the foul mouthwho is greenlighting this shit?

ALL OF THESE NEW SHOWS LOOK LIKE A LOAD OF JIMMY SMITS
by richard_gere_raped_my_gerbil
Hee hee! I made some new rhyming slang! Oh and Smallville season final was good. Enjoyed it more than Supernatural's.
-
Why not just keep Southland instead
-
I'm embarassed for whoever that is. Might as well just cancel that show now, honestly. Wow. That is one silly, ridiculous, stupid fucking picture.
-
The first half of the first season had a vibe and spirit sorta similar to Unbreakable (except faster paced). But Kring, his producers, and writers themselves I think didn't actually understand what made the first season of their show so appealing. And this grew evident as the first season headed toward the finale.
-
Is that dude in "The Cape" photo pooping into the ocean?
-
The Cape's mid season replacement is... THE CODPIECE!! Funny right? Don't flame me, i'm off my med's right now. Seriously, you can measure this series demise in nano-seconds.
-
Save for the last shot, which should have been saved for next season. Sure, the basic outline is predictable - we've seen it before with possessed characters- but this has always been a story about the brothers and their relationship, and that mattered more than some giant battle between Satan and Michael (though I love how Satan dealt with Cass). I think the writers and actors did right by Sam and Dean, and the emotions felt right.
-
David Kelley hacks out his legal series yet again.
-
Plus, the shows I wanted to see - passed over. Seriously, "The Cape"?
-
If the helmet of nabu is in there, and Tess does become fate, this would be a very easy out for Clark, who has a blue Kryptonite knife stuck in him while he is falling. It's supposed to remove his powers. The new fate could just heal him, restore his powers and he can go on not flying for S10.
-
Now that would be a cool tv show, especially if it was retro and in the 1920's-1940's era.
-
They should have yanked Heroes away from Kring and tried it with a show runner that understood how to run the show. Kring's interview with Onion AV club is like a blueprint for how to ruin a show like Heroes. Putting Heroes out of its misery isn't bad, but these shows all look worse than Heroes at its worst. To top it off, they passed on Rex is Not Your Lawyer, which is one of the few shows that sounded like it could have had potential. NBC has nothing outside of Thursday nights for me to watch, and I suspect that will continue for a very long time. Hopefully Cabletown will know how to run a network better than the monkeys running it now.
-
I hope The Cape has bad guys called "Turd Sandwitch," "One-Face," and "The Gootch". Smallville season was lame but finale was alright, they need to stop turning all these SUPERMAN villians into The Blur villians. Hope Darkseid isn't a 30 year old douche.
-
I really enjoyed the first season on Sanctuary. I haven't seen any of the 2nd season so I can't comment of it. I also recently got into Farscape. Wasn't that on SyFy too?
-
Why did it fail?? Because Bryan Fuller left to do Pushing Daisies. When he came back he jumped ship quick , there was no saving that train wreck
-
Some people started a petition to convince NBC to revive the show on SyFy.While it may not produce any results, there's no harm in signing.
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savethecheerleader/ -
I don't ever remember Clark throwing a punch, so I was kinda worried he might be able to throw a convincing one. My fears are completely gone. That was epic.
-
1) I've read they MIGHT (and who really knows) bring it back for a TV movie (or mini series?) to tie up the loose ends. Anybody know if this is true or ever possible?2) Would many people even care?In one sense, I'd love it. I've watched it since part-way into the first season, and there seemed to be a lot of potential, and when Bryan Fuller was there it was amazing. I have time invested into the show & characters, so I'd like to see it given a proper send-off. On the other hand, I think enough people have been vocal about what's wrong with the show for long enough, if they haven't figured it out by now . . . As somebody who thinks comic books are fun and the super hero format is ripe with possibilities, I'm kind of sad to see it go because I'm not sure if we'll ever see anything quite like what Heroes promised, or at least not for a while. Average Joe's getting super powers, some legit real-life consequences, grounded in realism, people growing into true awe-inspiring iconic heroes (think back to the from-the-future Hiro, for instance). It all went downhill and became a boring tedious trainwreck, but the original premise was pretty awesome and how it began was very good."The Cape" sounds like Kick-Ass: The Series with maybe some Batman mixed in. "Friends With Benefits" sounds pointless, but has what looks like (but probably isn't) Mindy Kaling's hot younger sister. That seems like all it's got going for it.-Cheers
-
In the "Friends With Benefits" show? I'd like to see him in stuff, as he was AWESOME as Topher in Dollhouse. However, it sounds like maybe the show was picked up without him (maybe he's in the pilot but not the show?).-Cheers
-
clover girl sexy... it will be interesting to see Dick (from VM) play a good or decent guy...
-
NBC sucks so hard - it orders five thousand stupid generic cop and legal dramas but ignores something which stars David Tennant? What a bunch of tools. Yeah, I guess all their excess money is being thrown at that hack Jay Leno. Or at Dick Wolf. Jesus H. Christ.
-
probably to just "With Benefits". But duh, it's a comedy about friends who fuck and get interconnecting sitcom lives from it, wow, never seen that before on NBC called "Friends". Jessica Lucas is quite cute though. The Cape? Looks more like "The Trashbag", not just the costume, but the concept is digging in the trash as well. Still, it's an interesting concept even if cliched to the likes of us, if handled right it could prove compelling. Oh wait, it's on NBC, sorry The Cape, you're going to suck or be canceled or be good but run into the ground by exec notes.Goddamnit, The Outlaw sounds interesting! I don't want to be tempted by another lawyer show, but that is a premise I can get behind. Meanwhile, Harry's Law sounds like cliched pap that we've seen waaaaay too much of lately.LOLA, it's going to be hard to get into this because I have seen a mountain of LA cop and legal dramas already, they're always too slick or too gritty but always "too" something for their own good. L&O was fine, L&O SVU is still good, and L&O CI is finding its legs after having the whole cast yanked out from under it, but LOLA feels like something that's going to have 13 episodes and get forgotten along with L&O Trial by Jury and L&O Crime and Punishment.Looks like NBC is going to struggle next season again.
-
or "pretty people who sex wit other pretty people?"
-
...The Cape works if he obsesses over scofflaws. Jaywalkers, you know, and...people who litter. And his cape actually doubles as a trash bag. "It's loitering time!" Friends with Benefits works if we see the benefits. Outlaw works as a comedy if... What the fuck, again? Jimmy Smits is one of the nine people most responsible for the interpretation of the laws of our land, a guy whose dissenting decision on a case carries more weight then a hundred cases worth of lower court precedent...and he leaves to go into private practice where he can do more good? What the fuck? ...and he ends up representing drunk drivers and doing a lot of tawdry family law. Kindreds works only if no one in the office is an actual lawyer.
-
And agreed, that punch was THE best opunch ever thrown. Miced feelings about the finale, it pormised so much more than it delivered. No idea who the old lady nknitting was - would love it to be Granny Goodness, though!
-
Three white guys running a train on the white chick and the black/indian chick in a constant loop.
-
If that all it takes to fight crime under a secret identity, I've got one in my car.
-
After so many many bad series finales, Supernatural's "series" finale was fantastic. Really wrapped the show up right.
I know it'll be back for a 6th season, but maybe it shouldn't be. Buffy should have ended after Season 5 and it feels like Supernatural had a far better finale than so many other shows
I agree that last shot of Sam was a bit "wrong"
I know some have wondered if Sam is now a demon or an angel, but if you took it as Sam being a ghost watching over Dean, it worked very well.
The series ending was far better than I would have hoped.
-
Chuck
&zwjis safe. -
What the fuck is that shit, NBC? Are you fucking kidding me? Who runs your network? 9 year olds? Hey, why not put Jay Leno on at 8? That can't fail, right? Future of television and all that. The Cape. You fucking idiots. Just bring back Manimal and call it a day.
-
or expressing shock or outrage at it's demise...shut the fuck up. That show was complete and utter drivel from the word "Go". And don't fucking kid yourselves that it was the fault of the writer's strike. Save the cheerleader my ass. Good riddance.
-
What the fuck, Kathy? You're a goddamned Oscar winner. Act like it. Just stay the fuck away from these shitty television shows. You're getting that NBC stink all over you.
-
Then check out a show the BBC did a few years ago called No Heroics - sort of takes the whole superhero thing and covers it with a huge layer of satire. Plus its only 6 shows that are only like 30 minutes each, so its not a huge investment of time etc.
-
Anything that'd give Welling an excuse to not don that suit Ma Kent left in the box for him. Also, am I the only one seriously pissed at how nonchalantly and uneventful that was? The suit is a serious piece of the entire iconography and they basically just stood over the show and shat it out as if it were nothing.
-
are many of the same morons that hated the show. Fickle is truly your middle name.
-
And by "sendoff" I mean "die horribly in a fit of rage". Well, again. Seriously, Quinto is just that nasty in the role (when the writers don't piss and moan back and forth) that I want to see a wrap up mini-series just for that.
-
I can smell the cheesiness from here...and they cancell Law and Order for this????
-
nicki finke is reporting that heroes is stone cold deadeits kicked the bucket, its shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!!THIS IS AN EX SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!
-
That picture has me thinking of Nightman. Funny, but not exactly good television. Is he wearing a garbage bag?
-
Long Live Dollhouse!
-
So wearing just a "cape" he fights crime? No powers? No tech? No Capemobile? No secret lair? He just goes outside in a a cape? Brilliant.
-
Season 1 was fantastic, 2 was naff, 3 was cool and 4 was crap but i still hoped for S5 as a big finisher I think the show needed that. Ah well!
-
Seriously, how do you come to that conclusion?
-
...as long as it hits the right tone (dare I say more Nolanish, less Kick-Ass).
Could be compelling if it bothers to have an air of serious.
Heroes on the other hand- Wow, very, VERY seldom are there shows I watch religiously that I just quit like that. That show was a freaking MESS after season 1... and S1 was SO GOOD. WTH happened? -
May 16, 2010 2:33:58 AM CDT
The Cape could be awesome if the guy get his ass beat every week
by hollywoodhellraiser
Imagine a series where the "The Cape" goes around trying to be a hero and ends up making things worse and getting his ass kick!I know some would get bored but I tune in every week to see the guy get kick in the balls!
-
complete cocksuckers. i always figured most people in the biz were jizz guzzlers, but this proves it. good luck with your failed network fuckers!
-
just molotav cocktail my brother with holy water?" Cas: "Uh...no." Pffft! One of the best series ever. The toy soldier in the ashtray the key to it all. Would have been a great series ending.
-
out of Superman 2. I do hope those were Parademons that grabbed Ollie too.
-
You are right, "Ow, my balls!" would probably be the best show NBC could possibly greenlight this season.
-
I'm still hoping Tennant will show up in a different American show, something better than a lawyer... thing.
A girl can dream, right? -
...during the 2010-2011 season. Just thought I'd get that out of the way ahead of time.
-

Why are so many network, studios and music labels...
by jaylenotookmyjob
...run by drooling morons these days?
-
It had it's moments, but if you're looking for a "Heroes" replacement (that's still on air) I'd suggest Misfits (also of the UK). It's a cross between Heroes and Skins - it has a more serious tone than No Heroics did, but still ends up being much funnier. Season 2 starts soon!
