FlashForward to a pathetic career for Dominic Monaghan
by kingninereturns
Terrible actor.
-
Nobody gives a shit about your first, jackass.
-
...but, Jesus, was that story all over the place. And people are bitching about how bad "Across the Sea" was...
-
In the beginning of the series it was the viewers who were"lost," but now at the end it the producers who are lost!
-
I guess FF lost the coin toss.
-
In the beginning of the series it was the viewers who were"lost," but now at the end it is the producers who are lost!
-
Man, I love that show. I am really sorry to see it go. I have no idea why they ever did Flash Forward as anything other than a mini series, the whole concept to me just didnt seem worthy or a full TV series

I have survived "Across The Sea"
by isleptwithkathybatesandallthatigotwasthi
And it made me stronger.
-
Damn you, lack of edit button.
-
I know someone who works on the show and is going to be greatly disappointed.
-
Best cancellation ever!
-
rest were mediocre at best.
-
And it was freaking great. It needed more of a chance, including the chance to run more than a few episodes in a row so it could actually build an audience. Worse cancellation ever (except for Now And Again whose first season ended on a cliffhanger and then the bastards at CBS cancelled it).
-
Sorry to hijack the thread, but has anyone heard about Breaking Bad's status? If they cancel that show, I'm going to shit a bloody brick.
-
But Flashforward is incredibly awful. Just a mess. I know now why Joseph Fiennes never became a star after Shakespeare in Love.
-
...but it was really becoming too complicated.
Does it mean that the ending is going to suck big time?
Are we going to get proper closure? -
Dominic Monaghan is one of those actors like Sean Connery or Michael Caine - exactly the same in everything they do, but bags and bags of charm, and very watchable. He'll never have trouble getting work.
As for cancelling FF, it was inevitable: everyone was finally getting it right, actors/writers/directors, delivering a fun and interesting show (which for a few episodes at the start, it certainly wasn't). Not being in America, I don't know if there was a lack of promo that said "hey, come back, FF is actually decent now!", but those low audience figures were unreal, and completely unjustified.
Farewell, Flash Forward, you join the ranks of Journeyman, John From Cincinnati, Drive, The Inside, Threshold, The $treet, Surface... and other enjoyable shows that were just SOL.
PS. V is juvenile nonsense, it should be on Nickelodeon. -
Odyssey 5... man, that was some cheap-ass telly, but I still loved it.
-
Wow man, I had forgotten about Drive. Another Nathan Fillion vehicle that failed to get past the starting line. Also mourn the loss of Journeyman, great potential in that one.
-
If Chuck gets another season on NBC, certainly they could pick up FlashForward.
-
Sticking it behind "Scrubs", especially this past season was no fair. They had a perfectly good spot for it on Wednesday after "Hank" got axed. It would have worked great at 8:30 between "The Middle" and "Modern Family". "Better Off Ted" was never given its due.
-
Not a bad drama, a shame.
-
...no football, comedies, or hourlongs
-
for a cancellation of the Alyssa Milano show.
-
hell, Lifetime could pick it up and people will still watch it.
-
And if you want to know the end of Flashforward, read the book!
-
stopped running the Veridian Dynamics ads in every show.
-
Can air for the rest if my natural life and I'll still watch it...
-
Just please don't throw puppies out the window in garbage
bags -
One of the MOST overrated shows in years?
-
I'm not saying it was the best show ever but it's come a long way since the first episodes. They finally started focusing on investigating the bloody flashforward instead of spending lots of time with the stupid hospital guy pining for his japanese girlfriend or the beardy father looking for his daughter. Those two subplots should have been snipped out and we should have spent less time with Joseph F's wife (she should have been a minor character rather than one of the main cast). The second half of the show was much better for focusing on the actual investigation and I liked the fact that Scientist Charlie was heading down a path to becoming the main villain for season two. Ah well.
-
It had a great run for a show that always seemed to be on the bubble. I remember it being in danger during season 3 and it looked like it was done, but somehow it hung in there for 9 seasons.
-
It's just started not sucking!I've said it before and I'll say it again - WE NEED A BETTER RATINGS SYSTEM!
-
No ending for you!! Fuck off fans! I should have guessed. And yes it was improving. Except for Fiennes' acting. I never once bought into any of his angry tough guy glances. And there were SO many. Sad to see it go and the cheap, meandering and predictable "V" survive. And those "V" effects looked SO horrible. V reminds me a LOT of The 4400, but without ANY interesting characters. Has that same feel to it. Too cheap looking for its budget. But FF was looking good and improving.
-
Fucking ABC puts money into Romantically Challenged, which was obviously written by a committee of robots who were having a lazy day, then cans it after a handful of mediocre episodes. But Better Off Ted, which has built quite a niche for itself, that they pull the plug on early after myriad of shitty marketing and schedule shifts?!? That is a weeping sore of a choice. I mean, I'm not remotely surprised about Scrubs, it felt like something ABC wasn't going to get behind with a big cast and very little fan support, but Ted was something different entirely.
-
...get your ending there, not a crappy show.
-
They cancelled the new spin-off, that happened to have exactly the same name as the original show.
-
The end of the season. I hate that its been cancelled.
-
Don't get me wrong, it was quite poor in places but certainly a higher standard than some other shows out there.
-
because its not on ABC!!!!
-
This new "med school" crap was just a weird fantasy in JD's head as he left Sacred Heart in the season 8 finale.
Well, thats how i choose to look at it. -
FF was wildly uneven and might have worked if they didn't have to reboot it in the middle of the season. But "V" has the bigger name recognition, so that's that. And what on Earth is making people think a critically-acclaimed cult favorite with a reigning two-time Emmy winner is going to get canceled? FFS.
-
It wasn't old Scrubs, but still funny nevertheless.
-
If it drew in 10 mil viewers it would. Guess what, it sank itself by giving people NO REASON TO WATCH! It is like the prequels. When you know where it is going, why bother? Every time they gave hints that the future many not be set in stone, they circle back. It just started again last week when they started the "universe self correcting" stuff. Binford's wife is a cheating skank-- causing Mark to drink. Noh still may bite it like everybody else. Viewers say "why bother" if they are just going to be jerked around.
-
How can they cancel Better Off Ted? It was the only half hour comedy I could stomach watching.
-
Show was brilliant, oh well; but I know I'd laugh several times in those remaining episodes. Wednesdays at 8 you air a REPEAT of Modern Family. Please just finish off Better Off Ted.
-

Poor Alyssa Milano ! Alll she had to do was get naked weekly...

or at least parade around in bra and panties for 30 mins and her show would have been saved! When will these tarts realize its all about the T&A?

Goyer KILLED FF and after he left the show was getting better!
by hollywoodhellraiser
FUCK YOU, GOYER!!!
-
I keep telling you the guy is a cancer to sci-fi TV but do you listen? Nooooooooo.
-
I'm happy that V is coming back (I enjoyed it more than FF, thats for sure), but I'm sad that Better off Ted won't be. I thought it had some real promise. Portia de Rossi was fantastic in the role.
-
Better Off Ted was one of my favorites. Its absurdity and awesome use of "super science" was always great. There wasn't an episode I didn't love of that series.. :(
-
V will probably last less than a season more. FF got better when it returned from the hiatus, as i didn't give a shit before that but now i find myself watching it. Oh well. Show needs to end in another global blackout that no one awakens from. Total fucking EXTINCTION of humans. Why not?
FUCK Scrubs, I can't even stomach the reruns on Comedy Central. Some people actually LIKE this show? Hahaha, whatever. Never seen Better Off Ted or Romantically Challenged, but I'm sure their commercials annoyed the hell out of me while watching Lost.
Next fall at least I'll have Fringe, Dexter, Supernatural, and SGU to look forward to... yep I said SGU. It's a lot better than it was when it started. -
At least FF is hilariously proposterous an entertaining in it's retardation. v is just flat out fucking boring an terrible. It's badness doesn't make it better like FF, it's just unfathomably dull and devoid of any life. "Because it is neither hot nor cold, but lukewarm, so I will spew it from my mouth"
-
I started catching up on it the other day and it was actually getting better. Not a great show but definitely better than V.
-
Modern Family would have been a great lead in for it, and no one would need to even see the ads for that piece of crap Cougar Town.
-
From Feinnes, the gruff FBI head, Sponser guy who's over in Afghanistan right now, and the unintentionall hilarious moments with the savant who's seen hundreds of FF's. Kno hams it up sometimes too, but he's always whining.
-
HAHAHA
-
Just pull the fucking plug on shit midway through. No thought or care if people are watching or enjoying it. No requirement to wrap up the story.
They should be legally required, upon starting a show, to make the decision at the mid-point of a season so the writers etc. can at least provide a conclusion in the event of cancellation. -
I do feel somewhat better about it since I can just read the book though. On the other hand, it was getting a lot better. A LOT better. I would not be surprised if they had written it off at the time they took the break in the middle of the season and it didn't come back with amazing numbers.Oh well. At least I've got Lost. Oh, wait...-Cheers
-
Battling against Survivor and the NBC comedies(meh) it never had a chance.
It has gotten better since it got back from the break (which also helped kill it).
V just flat out sucks. I stopped wtaching it because the acting and characters are boring (I won't watch it just for Elizabeth Mitchell's cans- if I want to see them I have Gia on tape so I can watch her and Angelina go at it). -
It will permanently kill the ongoing mystery show. No one is going to sign on for another series that ends with a magic cave.
-
And V is a waste of talent. So many good names... soooooooooooo boring and pointless.
Never really got into FlashForward. I actually thought it had already been cancelled. -
season 7 it started to lose it's magic. It was still funny but not like it once was. I still loved it and I loved the Series Final last year. Why they brought it back for one more season was beyond me. The spin off with the same name was funny too but it was not the scrubs i loved. It will be missed.
-
The ending to BSG was fine. It didn't necessarily have anything to with God; it's just that human beings have a tendency to fill in the gaps with a religious explanation. It doesn't mean their explanation is correct.
-
Seriously that show had some genuenly funny stuff happening. I just watched the whole first season on NETFLIX and was looking forward to it returning this fall.
"V" has been solid and deserved the renewal.
Flashforward started off intriguing but I lost interest in it around the time of the mid season break.
Also, when will Networks learn that no one is home on Friday nights, and no matter what show they oput on that night it will fail miserably?
In fact, with that in mind maybe they should move all of the reality programming to that night. -
I can understand the cancellation of FF (Not to say that I'm happy about it, but I understand it.) It's an expensive show to produce, and the ratings aren't stellar. That said, I would have given it a second season over "V" any day.
"V" seems to have it all: bad writing, bad acting, shoddy choreography, horrible VFX (people should have shadows, even aboard "V" ships), and locations that are clearly downtown Toronto. Since they're bringing this back for another try, ABC here's some friendly advice: Start Season 2 with the "V" lizard people killing half the cast. Loose the pregnant chick, her lizard bf, and please let Tyler die horribly; Give the Lizard Princess some real motivation to betray her mother. And for the love of God, please up the VFX budget; I can see the polygons on some of the ship models! -
Won't be happy. I quite like Flashforward but like Lost you tend to feel you are not getting anywhere. If these things were produced with a definitve "end date" I don't think they would be as likely to be cancelled - unless they are shit I suppose!
When they just keep going and going people loose interest and the inevitable axe falls. -
- V isn't particularly bad. It's just horribly slow and lacking in proper focus. They're trying to stretch a 3 hour TV movie into a 4 season series. Anybody who has seen the original 1984 V ongoing series will realize that this is a HUGE mistake. All of the tension is lost by stretching it all out and there's little else to keep you going beyond the premise.
Apart from that, there are four big things that have hurt V thus far. 1. They haven't given us a full view of the lizards, making ABC a bunch of cheap & lazy cock teases. 2. The CG is terribly inconsistent. Poor compositing of the live action plates with the CG elements makes it feel cheap. 3. They haven't exactly defined why the Visitors are here, beyond conquering. There must be a deeper reason for their invasion. Otherwise, they're the most inefficient alien warlords ever. 4. The worst problem with V is that they traded the massively powerful Nazi & Nazi Youth allegory with a decidedly less powerful post-9/11 terrorism one. Terrorism may ring true with current events, but it certainly lacks the punch of dem crazy Nazi bastards.
As for the cancellations.....
- I never saw much point to Fast Forward beyond the premise. There's only so far you can push the concept before it gets old and tedious.
- Better Off Ted simply did NOT deserve cancellation. It was the only truly off-beat and original comedy that ABC had going. ABC does have some funny stuff, but nowhere near as lovably quirky as Ted. The real problem wasn't the writing, the cast, or even the ratings potential. Ted's real problem was ABC. The dropped it from the schedule for a hiatus. Then, they preempted it whenever they had the opportunity. Then, they put it in the absolutely worst time slot, instead of the power Wednesday block, which became 1/2 hour short once Kelsey Grammer's latest shit-bomb got canned. Finally, there was just no real promotion of this show. How many of you realized far too late that ABC started airing new episodes. I only realized because I had it was on because my DVR filled up with new stuff. ABC dropped the ball here. BTW, they never really got rid of those fake Veridian Dynamic commercials. They just moved them from the beginning to later on in the show, usually near the end, iirc.
- Scrubs Med School was actually good. It was a VERY rocky start. They outright made JD flamingly gay instead of his usual bromantic self. They also skipped over so much with him and Elliot. Frankly, Scrubs Med School became so much more likable and watchable once JD left. As much as I like Zach Braff, his character weighed down the show. Once they actually focused on the new characters, the show picked up quickly. I, for one, hope that Dave Franco gets a high profile gig. His character Cole started off pretty douchey, but got really funny. Franco's every bit as talented as his older brother, and about 75% less stoned. The only thing missing from Scubs v2 was Janitor, but they did explain his absence and it was actually frickin' brilliant.
- Romantically Challenged..... More like premise rehashed. I didn't bother to tune in simply because the teasers felt recycled. At least in the commercials, it reminded me of Christina Applegate's failed comeback Jess. I'm inclined to totally agree with whomever suggested that they had her run around naked for the entire 22 minutes. That's the only thing that would've gotten me to tune in too. -
...if V had been on Thursdays and FF had been on Tuesdays... Guess we'll never know...
-
with Lost ending and Scubs officially done, the only shows left that i actually follow are animated...wow. i do like Human Target and its coming back so maybe it'll be my new replacement.
-
It's a fun show.

If you don't like Scrubs, you are a Grey's Anatomy fan.
by redegiraahgnal
And we don't like people like you over here! (Well, I can't speak for Herc. He just loves his housewife TV.)
The first five seasons of Scrubs were just TV comedy in perfection. (But as I'm willing to admit, not as perfect as Arrested Development.) Season 6 was unfortunately a huge drop in quality. They still had hilarious gags, but they were overshadowed by downright dumb and badly written stories, like Carla's depressions after she gave birth and the whole Private Dancer storyline, which ended with something, that was without a doubt the lowest point of the whole show. (Yes, I'm talking about the "Hey, let's talk about our suicide attempts"-episode). Season 7 was great again, but unfortunately so short, that you can only count it by UK standards as a full season. And Season 8 was...irritating. It was not bad, but the new interns should have been the recurring guest stars and not the REAL cast of the show.
And since Season 9 wasn't really meant to be Season 9, but Season 1 of a new spin off (which I haven't seen yet) I won't talk about it here. -
Gee, let's put a new show up againts Survivor and see how it does! How stupid. I've had to download Flashforward every week because of the family watching Survivor. Do the networks take these things into account? These so called ratings numbers are completely irrelvant now with the internet. Don't the networks realize that? I roll my eyes everytime AICN posts the numbers every week. They don't matter anymore! Probably going to replace it with another mind numbing cop show or hospital drama.
-
on his best day he achieves mediocrity for a minute or two...How can they not see that all he touches turns to crap?
-
they way they ended season 8 was a perfect series ending but no they bring it back for season a ninth season. horrible idea and the fact the zach braft wasnt even in it was the reason i didnt even bother watching it
-
Had been an NBC show, and aired before or after The Office, it would have been a smash hit.
V needs to pick up its game. The last ep. gave me a little hope, since their version of "the red dust" has been introduced. Maybe the story will progress. The show needs 1-2 seasons more, at most. After that they'll be out of story. -
Which was good since they fucked up his character.
They tried to make him a mentor, like they did briefly with with him & Keith or Lonnie, but he kept on coming off as more obnoxious and needy. After 8+ years, you'd think that he'd stop craving everybody's approval. Instead, he was acting like a whiny bitch.
Then, they had him (JD) be overly flamboyant. More than usual. It kinda got you thinking, "Why the fuck did Elliot even marry him anyway? And who the hell's kid is she carrying?" Seriously. Like Sean Hayes level gay. Totally out of character.
Honestly, the old cast was the worst thing about S9 of Scrubs. Left to do their own thing, the new students were pretty funny in their own right. Kinda like the original cast mixed with the rejects from Community. About the only old cast member worth his weight in gold for S9 was Perry, but he's always been the consistently good iron man anyway.
They should've just retitled the show Sacred Heart or something. IIRC, Bill Lawrence DID want to retitle the show, but the network pushed to keep the Scrubs brand alive. Had Scrubs been totally retitled and this had maybe been treated like a Dr. Cox spinoff, with him as chief of staff & dean of students then this could have done a lot better. Given how Crista Millar was now on ABC's Cougar Town, they could've even had her appear as Jordan on an irregular basis.
The reason why Scrubs got canceled was because it really ended in S8. Had this actually been S1 of a new med show instead... totally different results. S9 of Scrubs was designed like and felt like a good S1 of a totally new show, or at least good spin-off. -
Really. The season finale is next week and I feel as if almost nothing has been accomplished. They've wasted hours upon hours of film trying to build up drama where little exists. Granted, there were some interesting bits & pieces now and again, but it's still not enough. There's just too much filler.
V needs to amp up the acting - soon and consistently. They also need new writers & directors. The actors don't emote so well and aren't given nearly enough to work with. Thin the heard. Ditch a character or two, especially the whiny son. Demand more of everybody on board. There are only 13 eps. Better make every one count.
The best ep should have been the one with the soldier V, but they totally muffed out. I was expecting something more alien and as formidable as the T1000. Instead, we got another human looking V that was about as easy to beat as an average Buffy vamp. -
Seriously how did scrubs last that long
-
Had the potential of being a good movie, it was an excellent premise, but drawing out into a series just made it slow and boring.
-
Curious...what have you done that's noteworthy in your life? Other than masturbate?
-
I did try to watch FF, but it seemed like a poorly conceptualized/acted attempt at keeping Lost fans. ABC has good shows and it appears that Happy Town may be a worthy successor to Lost.
-
I wish Alyssa Milano would find a great show, because I really wouldn't mind seeing her on tv week after week.
-
Milano did most of the press for the show in-house on ABC talk shows. And only she did the rounds, the rest of the cast had already moved on because it was 2010 pilot season.SpyGuy I was with you. Braga only knows how to steal from the BBC. Now with 5 years of Dr. Who and Torchwood to steal from, don't be surprised if his next project sounds very similar to one or more Steven Moffet scripted episodes. Braga is just too predictable.------later-----m
-
The first episode was good, they kind of lost track for awhile, and then BAM! Things really picked up. It's one of those shows I look forward to every week. I'm really not pleased it's going. I wanted to see if they were going to stop the next flashforward or not, or if Dominic lives... really. Too bad this was cancelled. Guess there's no hope in Sy-fy picking it up, there too busy with their cheapass, poorly written distaster of the weak, creature feature of the week or freak of the week. Where do they go those horrible screenplays? From the trash bin at the local elementary? But then, I'm sure elementary kids would come up with someone more interesting.
-
...because it's opposite not only "Survivor", but "Parks and Recreation". Talk about a killer time slot for a really good show :(
-
Moments of interest, short bursts of proper pacing, but mostly just moody, whining characters who behaved very implausibly and ordinarily under the extraordinary circumstances of the premise. And the main guy has one expression [chin down, peering out from under his eyebrows with his narrow eyes], surly and monotone, and no real indication that he was actually SMART enough to handle any of this stuff--it seemed like he just stumbled onto stuff, but we were supposed to accept it as innate talent most of the time, destiny the rest of the time.It isn't sad that this was cancelled, it is sad that such an interesting premise was so poorly executed and written from the beginning. It is also sad that Braga gets to touch any show any where any time ever again.
-
I've always liked Denise and that guy she started dating was actually awesome. I could have gone without the dumbass security guards, but even the creators got tired of them since they didn't really show up that much towards the 2nd half of the season. The last episode, though, was great. It made so much sense to make Cole a surgeon and I was really looking forward to Turk being a mentor for somebody (and whatnot). I'll definitely miss seeing new episodes of Scrubs: my favorite live action show ever.

47 Blu-Rays Under $10!!! ,,,and Dark Knight isn't one of them...
by beeslo
Seriously. Way to jerk my chain there.
-
Anything made by Berman or Braga needs to really get great reviews and ratings for me to watch it. FF had neither.
-
It's the only show I like that hasn't been canceled or taken off the air yet.
-
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night
Workin' hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice
Just one more time
Some will win
Some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching
In the night
Streetlights, people
Livin' just to find emotion
Hidin', somewhere in the night
[Instrumental Interlude]
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to the feelin'
Streetlights, people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlights, people

But a 1.0 is a hit on the CW.
-
have some great ideas but their execution is generally terribleSci-fi, fantasy needs great characters, these guys can't do characters very well, even with some decent actors involvedFringe has been doing really well and like Lost has been smart enough to make the story bigger and bigger over time, in the meantime the audience has developed a great connection with the characters, especially the Bishops
-
The Big Bang Theory is one of the highest-rated shows on TV. They renewed it for its third and fourth seasons last year. It'll be around for a while.
-
... so i don't give a toss.
-
even though it should be. Couldn't watch it anymore because my hours changed at work and it's on too late. no loss. the only interesting dynamic is the reporter/alien queen interaction. even the original V kinda breaks down around the mid-point with that cheesy star wars fight scene. Moore would have brough it if they gave it to him. guess he didn't wanna be the tv-remake king. As i said in another post, in june all the shows i normally watch will be finishing up their runs and networks can go back to bringing up new reality shows and cop/medical shows. It'll give me a chance to read my lovecraft, matheson, gaiman's sandman and other graphic novels, superhero books i rent from the library and tv shows i've ordered from amazon (man from uncle, brisco county, i spy, etc...) to say nothing of all the movies i bought when one of the blockbusters in my neighborhood went belly up. so i'm good as far as entertainment. next up on my get list: Fire & Ice dvd in honor of Frazetta and ellison/corben's Vic & Blood graphic novels. I'm good networks. keep churnin out shit!
-
Some time ago, I asked that he stop making television ratings a point of discussion here. All that accomplishes is just giving the numbers even more power to the suits that make decisions about renewals and cancellations. We, as fans, should not care about the numbers. Talking about them so much sends the wrong message. So yeah, any time a network makes a bonehead decision about a great show, Herc and his ratings discussions are a part of the problem.
-
Stopped watching "Scrubs" after Zach Braff left - even then it was showing its age. Sitcoms and dramas just can't seem to survive against lower-budget reality TV.
-
Both are thought provoking SF drama's, why does Fringe do so much better? Is it just because there is a "hot blonde" star in Fringe?
