Shocker!! NBC To Deny LAW & ORDER Its Record-Breaking 21st Season??

Published at:  May 13, 2010 5:54:27 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Deadline Hollywood reports that “Law & Order” is done after all.

The low-rated drama would have broken “Gunsmoke’s” record for longing-running drama (but not longest-running anything else, thanks to longer-running shows like “The Simpsons,” “60 Minutes” and “Meet The Press”)

Very late last year, Business Week had this:

“I’m a ‘Law & Order’ junkie,” [NBC primetime entertainment president Angela] Bromstad said. “I wouldn’t want to be responsible for not having ‘Law & Order’ break the record.”

Bromstad later clarified that no decision had yet been made on the series’ next season.

The more popular “Law & Order SVU” is expected back next season, and the network is widely expected to launch “Law & Order: Los Angeles” next season under the stewardship of Showtime's “Brotherhood” mastermind, Blake Masters.

It may be repetitive and formulaic, but L&O Prime was solid and entertaining and didn't treat its viewers like idiots. I'll take 20 more years of L&O over one more episode of the flashy, brain-dead Alphabet Soup procedurals on CBS.

    by eastcoastavenger

This show became somewhat of a joke when they couldn't think of original stories anymore and started to re-enact popular true to life stories. I think they even did one about a Michial Jackson type molesting children not too long ago.

This show is done, stick a fork in it. Over the last four years, it has gone down the drain faster then post season 1 Heroes, culminating in the ultimate crapfest that was this latest season. I stopped watching for good after the "Put the Bush administration on trial" episode, in which a prosecutor told the jury to find the guy guilty based on their emotions, even though it had already been successfully argued that he broke no laws. The fuck? That's how the writers of LO think our courts should operate... not based on compelling arguments of guilt or innocence, but on whether or not the jury thinks the defendant is a bad person? It's not only bullshit, it's lazy bullshit. Ripped from the headlines my ass, try Ripped from fucking liberal fantasy land.

Going out of his way to post non-stories on Supernatural night just to mess with SN fans. I didn't say anything during Fringe, Survivor or Office talkbacks because those are regularly covered here, but Law and Order? And the Power Rangers one was Merrick so it doesn't count. Law and fucking Order. THIS should be the official SN discussion thread, I don't think any fans of the site would object to a fucking Law and Order talkback being hijacked.

The last few seasons of L&O have been pretty good. They started experimenting a little with handheld. The cast was great. Some more interesting political decisions for Sam Waterston (liked him winning the spot of DA).

SVU on the other hand is retarded. It's aimed at a 12yr old mentality. I can't stand that show.

    by bizarrojerry

I did like the show once, but only D'onofrio and his partner. Not a fan of Goldblum's character. He's just a variation on the D'onofrio's weird character, anyway. Oh, and I'm pretty sure it's 100% Goldblum and his new partner now.SVU's aim at going after sex crimes turned me off at first, even though I know it's not all of that. But the two leads who are supposedly good actors irritate me to no end, and are very overrated. Plus, they took Belzer's character from Homicide and made him bland and boring.

OK, I didn't even realize the new season had started. It's one of those shows we'll watch if we stumble on it, but don't actively pursue.

You're right on. After a little research it appears that that D'onofrio and Erbe left the show (though the characters aren't dead so they could return). It sounds like D'onofrio was done with the show, not I don't know if he's done with TV or not - apparently it was suggested his character might head to the FBI as a profiler (he should head on over to Criminal Minds...)

They cancel L&O Prime just to launch L&O: Los Angeles, then in May 2012 SVU will be losing half of its cast? Their audience Sept. to May is the second oldest on TV. Dump the LA show, NBC has already failed twice with that (Boomtown and Southland.) Take that showrunner and writing staff and put them on L&O Prime. Then in May 2012 dump all the L&O shows.----later----m

    by bizarrojerry

Isn't that basically Dragnet, which Wolf tried to remake and got 2 years out of? It started out very L&O like in season 1, but then tripled the cast, and turned it into a more typical cop show full of "cool" characters. It didn't make it past season 2, though I loved Ed O'Neill as Joe Friday.

Look, I love LA, I was born here and will die here, but there's enough fuckin' shows on about LA in general.
