Remake-O-Rama!! FIVE-0, ROCKFORD & NIKITA Most Likely To Get Series Orders!! Brannon Braga’s Dinosauric Drama Looms Large!!

I am – Hercules!!
Undaunted by the failed relaunches of “Dragnet,” “Night Stalker,” “Bionic Woman,” “Knight Rider,” “Melrose Place,” “V,” etc. etc. (to say nothing of recent failed pilots for “Lost In Space” and “Time Tunnel”), the networks seem keenest this spring on bringing back long-dead brand-name franchises. Fall schedules won’t be finalized for another week or more, but reporters are scrambling to discover early what will be pumped into American households next autumn for free. Apparently we’ll be hearing a week from now that CBS’ “Hawaii Five-0,” NBC’s “Rockford Files” and The CW’s “Nikita” are all going to series. Apart from the remake mania, there was also this interesting line in James Hibberd’s round-up of Fox potentials:
Steven Spielberg's dino-drama "Terra Nova" is considered as much of a lock as a drama can be considering the network hasn't seen a script yet (Brannon Braga is turning it in shortly).
Given the insane amount of special effects a weekly dinosaur drama requires, I’d be flabbergasted if Fox launched “Nova” before midseason. Find all of Hibberd’s story on the matter here.

The amazing third season of “Mad Men” is momentarily $17.99!! 64% Off!!

47 Blu-rays Under $10!!

    Hawaii Five-0!!

    by rpalompo

Since we lost LOST here in Hawaii it'd be great to get a quality Five-0 series. The original was great for Hawaii and for Hawaiians and I like what these guys are doing with Fringe. Hope it happens!

    V is a failed series?

Was it cancelled already? It is making ABC good money, so what's up?

This Yahoo article "are your favorite shows in danger"
    http://tinyurl.com/onthebubblegumshows
concedes the hiatus hurt V and it is losing it's time slot to the Good Wife and Parents in the Hood, but still places it on the 'Looking Good' list of shows likely to return. Oddly they put FlashForward, a marginally better show since returning from hiatus, on the 'Not looking so good' list of shows likely for cancellation.
Chuck: looking good. Heroes: not so much.
It's pretty much a speculative article anyway, all premature guesswork that will be obsolete once it's speculations are either confirmed or denied within the next couple weeks.
In Hercules the Strong's mind, though, all shows he doesn't like have already been canceled and Justified, with a ZERO point eight rating, is a buzz-worthy smash hit.
But heck, his track record at calling hits is probably better than mine. I liked Eastwick, so what do I know?

    by Phategod2

  • I'll bet you H50 and Rockford have big ratings their first episodes, then by hiatus they'll lose over half and hover around the 2.0's. Nakita has a chance because it'll be on CW which won't expect it to get higher then a 2. Meanwhile FX, TNT, USA, AMC, SHO, HBO, and Starz will lick their chops as the buzzards keep circling the Networks who refuse to get with the times.

    Five-O

    by theDORK

O'Laughlin has a tough job in front of him, following Jack Lord. Talk about iconic roles...good luck with that. Watched Five-O back in the day on CBS, I hope this remake succeeds. I'm not holding my breath, but remaining hopeful.

I thought I saw "V" got picked up?

    by BizarroJerry

Maybe I'm wrong. And that Dragnet remake from years ago at least lasted two seasons, didn't it? Can't say the same for these others. Oh, and that Dragnet wasn't a bad show until they tripled the cast.

  • May 8, 2010 9:29 AM CST

Would call it Hawaii Five- O but...

    by BurnedNotice_Dude

just use new characters. Nobody will never be able to fill the shoes of Jack Lord. He had big feet.

I don't mind Nikita, because it's got a good looking

    by FamousEccles

woman in it, but remaking Hawaii Five-O and Rockford (especially Rockford) is an actual sin.

  • May 8, 2010 9:52 AM CST

BTW, about V. It sucked mainly because of the shit CGI

    by FamousEccles

(one guy actually walked through a solid object?!?) and because it was taking way to long to actually getting the bit about fighting the Vs.

give long form stories a break

    by Himbo

I'm hoping Rockford does this and just supplies an hour of entertainment. Original Rockford had a backstory, sure, but it was just flavoring. But every hour was SOLID (excepting the two-parters).

    by rben

are these in the can or are you referring to the LOS theatrical? Details please. Are these brand new tv-creator/showrunner things and if so have they or will they be shown?

Steven Spielberg and Brannon Braga = 'No'. Or, more to the point, 'FUCK NO'.

Movie Studio disease infects TV Networks

    by JT Kirk

This just in: a disease which has been growing in strength over the last few years which has been spreading throughout the Hollywood movie studio system has jumped to their television counterparts. The infection, dubbed "Remakitis" by experts but also known as "a total lack of creativity" by outsiders, has scientists baffled. For decades, this disease quietly sat in small numbers throughout both move and tv studios making rather mild illnesses that were easily curable. Yet over the last few years, this ailment has quickly grown in strength and power at the big studios, ruining reputations careers with impunity. The television networks however were thought to be largely immune due to their heavy diet of cheap reality shows and a total disregard for nurturing new programming in general. Yet within a matter of 2 seasons, Hollywood's Remakitis has spread like wildfire into television executives in charge of development and scheduling, convincing them that creativity is dead and audiences are only going to respond to familiarity. Dubbed "desk zombies" by insiders, these tv executives have missed the signs that their brands will be worth far less once they attempt to ineptly exploit them for a cheap name-recognition ratings grab, as past examinations of this disease has shown its powers are strong mainly only with studio executives, not audiences. Perhaps the most affected by this cruel ailment are the stars themselves, actors such as Dustin Diamond expecting their careers to soar after another revisit of Saved by the Bell in the hopes that someone, anyone, will want to watch him portray Screech again.

As far as Hawaii 5-0 goes

    by jtp8000

U have a lot less problem with this then I do with Rockford. Jack Lord created an iconic character but James Garner is Rockford.I can more easily imagine a new McGarrett than I can Rockford. And picking Dylan McDermoot Mulroney is absolutely ridiculous. If this had to be made, gun to head, I would have picked Joe Flanigan or Jeff Fahey

Yes, Virginia, there are filmed pilots LIS & TT

    by axcel1

Neither were shown, Lost In Space had Brad Johnson in the lead, hope that was not the reason he retired from acting. Both, I think, are on the 'net.

Rben, here is the LOST IN SPACE pilot

    by Big Dumb Ape

Here's a link for the pilot at YouTube. Not the best quality, but at least you can watch it and see what an HORRIBLE remake it would have been. Seriously, it is almost painful to sit through. The acting is wooden and Warner Bros. dropped some serious coin to shoot this fiasco and got stinking garbage in return. This pilot is so bad, you'll throw in the DVD for the movie remake and cheer it on. (Though I must say I actually liked the first half the movie. It was too bad they fucked everything up once they crashed on the planet).
