... that Tron is an absolutely abysmal film. I hadn't seen it since it came out in 1982, when I was a kid, so I watched it again the other day. I've never seen a film so devoid of tension, drama, narrative, pacing, excitement, or anything else you would normally associate with even a vaguely entertaining film. It was, however, visually spectacular. Bring in the logic probe!

And I'm notnsaying I'm not excited for torn 2, because I am, it looks excellent. However, all I'm saying is....I'm a bug nerd too, but also, I'm 23 and I didn't see torn until just a few years ago. Now, I enjoyed it, forbwhat it is. I also fully understand if I had seen as a kid...it might have been my favorite movie ever at the time. But, honestly, seeing it as an adult more or less, it's enjoyable retarded. The story, and sense of geography within the narrative is pure 80s silliness. They just...do...things. The story is nit the films strongest suit, that's all I'm saying really. So, my question is, why are people solo excited for this exactly? Is it just because it looks really awesome as it's win movie. Because in terms of the encom story and the MCU or whatever....first off, I just saw it, and i barely care. So it can't be the idea of continuing the story. Second, the average person, not us the awesome nerds, but most real people, don't even remember that torn existed. Go outside your usual circles, no one even knows what it is. My parents, who are cool, don't remember it ever even existing. It's not like star wars or anything, so I feel like people aren't going to go crazy over torn 2 and it'll make a shit load of money cause it's a sequel to a movie a lot of people just haven't seen. I was never impressed with Disney's post-Star Wars era in which they tried to get involved in science fiction. The Black Hole and TRON were both created by people who knew OF the worlds they wanted to play in, but had know actual understanding of them. I mean, even the name itself - 'TRON' - was simply an old DOS command for tracing the functioning of a dos program line by line. Someone saw that and thought, 'Hey, there's a movie there!' Ok whatever. Now the use of computer graphics within a movie like that, that was revolutionary (at the time) but of course now your cell phone could probably do better. In any case, Bridges is a much bigger star now than he was, and technology has grown galaxies better, so if nothing else, it should once again be a visually-stunning achievement, but my expectations are tempered, and I am hoping it turns out better than Crystal Skull or Dragon Emperor, the sequels which most closely echo the vibe I am getting from this new TRON so far.

The movie title was the security program Alan Bradley was working on that was designed to monitor the Master Control Program.
I didn't really get why they chose to make it the title of the movie, other than it sounded cool, I guess.

look at all that water and whatever on the feet of the recognizers. what the fuck? all this stuff would be much cooler if it WASN'T Tron, but when you have the imagery of the first film in your head as a reference it makes all of this new stuff look so unimaginative and boring by comparison.they could have taken all of the new tech at their disposal and made the film look even MORE tripped out than the original, but instead... they made it look more ordinary. what a waste.i hope one of these days someone with some real vision makes a new Tron sequel that lives up to the name.

Persojnally I love the movie. I loed it back when it was made and sat in theaters 5 times to watch it. People bitch and complain about how safe movie are - how no one ever takes a chance. This was a golden age of scifi/fantasy - gave us Blade Runner, Empire Strikes Back,Wrath Of Khan,Dragonslayer, The Road Warrior,Legend, and even Tron. If wish moviemakers today had the balls to come up with a idea and run with it. Inception looks to be such a film.
