‘Answer The Question!!’ Antepenultimate FRINGE!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
“We will get some information in [the season finale] episode about the William Bell on this side, the younger William Bell on this side,” Leonard Nimoy told SciFi Wire. “There will be some information given.”
Nimoy also tells the site the two-part season finale, which starts next week, is finally giving him a lot more to do. His schedule: “A total of three or four days this week, and then I come back for another three or four days. ... Much more involvement than in the past, yeah.”
Last week’s musical episode was named after Walter Bishop’s favorite blend of marijuana. I get a “Twin Peaks” vibe off tonight’s installment, titled “Northwest Passage.” Fox says:
Peter teams up with a local law enforcement official, Sheriff Mathis (guest star Martha Plimpton), on a serial murder investigation with ties to Newton (guest star Sebastian Roche). Meanwhile, Walter copes with the possibility of being sent back to St. Claire's, and someone from the "other side" pays a visit. Guest Cast: Sebastian Roche as Thomas Jerome Newton; Martha Plimpton as Sheriff Tracy Mathis; Christine Chatelain as Krista; Patrick Gilmore as Deputy Ferguson; Juan Riedinger as Craig; Paul Herbert as Tom; Marie West as Heather.
There’s no sign of Newton in the two-part series finale. Next week brings “Over There: Part One”:
In part one of the two-part, two-night second season finale, Walter and Olivia travel to the parallel universe, and the anticipated face-off between Walter Bishop and William Bell occurs. Guest Cast: Ari Graynor as Rachel Dunham; David Call as Nick Lane; Pascale Hutton as Sally Clark; Omar Metwally as James Heath; Lily Pilblad as Ella Blake; Philip Winchester as Frank Stanton; Seth Gabel as Lincoln Lee; Orla Brady as Elizabeth Bishop; Leonard Nimoy as William Bell; Ryan James McDonald as Brandon.
May 20 brings the second-season finale, “Over There: Part Two”:
In the second part of the two-part season finale, sacrifices will be made and both universes may never be the same again after Walter and Olivia visit the "other side." Guest Cast: Leonard Nimoy as William Bell.
“Fringe” was long ago renewed for a third season.

hoping for something mind-blowing
-
This is shaping up nicely. And nice to see one of the other Goonies getting some work.
-
is also a regular on HBO's "How To Make It In America," just picked up for a second season.
-
This show has gotten better an better this season!!!
-
Great show, aside from the snail-like pace the main character arcs and storylines have been inching along. Too many standalone episdoes that seemingly had nothing to do with anything. Can't wait to finally get some interesting developments....
-
for a couple episodes as a crafty lawyer who uses her pregnant condition and new baby as props in trials. Great, great show IMHO.
-
I have always wanted to bang the hell out of Martha Plimpton. No idea why. I'd smack the butch right out of her.
-
Even though they could have had him invent a "deaging" process or some shit, and gotten Zachary Quinto to play the character.
He'll be looking for work, once NBC grows a pair and announces Heroes is dead. -
"There’s no sign of Newton in the two-part series finale."
I know it's just a typo, but man, don't scare me like that. -
"Sacrifices will be made and both universes may never be the same." Oh, is THAT all?

-
I used to barely care about this show. Now It's easily the one I most anticipate.
-
But now it's really getting good!
-
This is the only other show I consider "must watch".
-
Fringe, Breaking Bad and that last bunch of Ventures Brothers all regularly hit "best episode ever" all season long.
Two universes are changed forever. Swiping a note from the Lost playbook, the two realities merge. Like that fringe episode where the two buildings occupied the same space and everything was twisted.
Series ends, and all plots are resolved in a movie in which the entire world is like that; merged and twisted and surreal. directed by Tim Burton. With Johnny Depp as William Bell II, of course. -
gay actresses are hot.
-
think they fumbled it a bit in the first half of the season but it's moving along nicely now- which is good as I was worried since they had built up such great momentum in the first season and it's just stopped dead when it came back. I still prefer season 1 mind you
-
LONG LIVE FRINGE!
-
I'll agree the first half of the season was very lackluster but they've been on a damn roll the last five episodes. White Tulip was fucking awesome.
-
...but not quite.
-
should have a Twin Peaks vibe, since that was the original pilot/series title.
-
Some shows go to shit as the seasons click by, FRINGE is better. At one point in the first season I turned it off. Now I can't miss an episode!
-
The finale sounds very Nimoy intensive. Which is a cool way to end the season and fans get a nice "farewell" when he hangs up his acting hat for good.
Plimpton should be fun in tonight's EP.
-
It deserves one!
-
...Anyone can give me a quick run down on past three episodes regardin the overall story? not really carin about the "science experiment gone wrong of the week" plots
-
...I watched last episode but i was still thinkin of the lost deaths, that i couldnt pay attention... i did she that weird cheek bone girl get hit by her mom (who is not as attractive without the long hair)... show is borin and i hate miss mitchell
-
...Who enjoys great shows like supernatural!
-
...i missed the premiere cuz my "trustworthy" entertainment site didnt mention it (but they do mention three times about a possible cloverfield sequel, youtube video of old cartoons, and porn)... or is aicn like the island on lost, ya know, racist
-
Amen brother! Keep pimpin' SUPERNATURAL until EVERYBODY knows what a great show it is. Only a couple eps left, it's a shame that they're obviously going to find a way to sidestep the pending Apocalypse.
-
...I wasnt a fan til i saw others pimp it last season... and im glad i caved in to watch... the episode with lucifer killin all the gods and deities should DEFINITELY HAD GOTTEN AN ARTICLE!
-
at the show for some time now.
-
can get a bit squicky at times
-
kinda disappointed want walternate to have an evil goatee
-
and now, shit gets serious...
-
this shit's about to get TWICE as real now. Hey! Maybe Charlie 2.0 will be on next week!
-
I think when Alternate Walter get here he will be delivering lollipops and A##whippings, AND he will be fresh out of lollipops.
-
Confirmed baby! Alternate Charlie's in the promo for next week.
-
Sounding interesting enough for me to want to hear the whole thing at least.
-
Even though I called Walternate as the secretary immediately after the end of the last episode it's still cool to finally meet him. This show has been on a fucking roll the back half of this season. Hopefully the next one will reverse the trend of starting out very mediocre and picking up steam into goodness (season 1) and outright brilliance (season 2).
-
...how this season is going to end. It is too early in this series(season 2) to kick off the whole war between the two worlds, right? I'm guessing Walter is going to figure some way to seal up all the portals. Maybe that is how they are going to write Nimoy/Bell out. He makes some great scarifice to close the portals between the worlds (for now). But it would be awesome if they just ran with the war and all next season we would see how it plays out. No matter what, this show has been hitting out of the park since it came back. I can't wait to see a little blond on burnette Olivia vs. alt-Olivia action next week. And alt-Astrid better be kick-ass. Maybe she can be alt-Broyles boss in the other universe.
-
Walternate is a fucking pimp! He just might hafta' choke a bitch.
-
I'm gonna miss it. Really, though - I only need to know the important stuff. Maybe the "last time, on Fringe" could cover it?
-
U.S. Secretary of Vengeance!!!
-
I really enjoyed it, too. Finally seeing Walternate was just cooler than cool though. Fringe is on fucking fire these last few weeks!
-
Man, SO stoked for this finale!

But she still has a very distinctive mannish or androgynous face that meant I recognised her immediately.
-
Y'know, I did enjoy the entire season, in spite of all those folks in the Thursday ratings talkbacks complaining about how the stand alone episodes didn't advance the mythology enough.
Heck, once Lost is done, I will probably never start watching another multi-year mega epic TV series again. Life's too short. Well, mine will be.
Oh, I'll stick with FlashForward and V until the end, but I expect that to come soon. And I'll hang with The Venture Brothers until they're done, if they're not already.
DH and the Shonda medical dramas, well, I expect soap operas to be episodic, that's the name of that game.
But Fringe may be the last great series with a huge mythology and a long term game plan tat I expect to follow. Well, that and Breaking Bad, but I'm not sure I'll describe that saga as "huge". Most of the other things I enjoy watching like House and Bones deliver stand alone episodes and that's the way I like it.
That said, I think Fringe, and FF and V were all greatly improved once they returned from their hiatuses. But certainly Fringe most of all. That's true, and I'd say the same thing if this were a FF or V talkback. Not that that's likely to happen.
But Fringe. Just dayum. Is it fair to say that they have delivered one "best episode ever" consecutively starting with the last one before the hiatus and including every episode since? Yes, it is fair.
And for anyone who really sincerely hated the Fringe musical episode... well, go forth and live your life in peace, but I strongly disagree with you. It was awesome. Especially that opening scene.
And this, tonight's episode... great guest star, great plot, great ending... and a perfect example of how to do a Twin Peaks/X-Files homage, and tell a done in one crime story, and advance the mythos all at the same time. This is exactly what I would hope for Fringe to keep on doing.
Delicious strawberry flavored death, indeed. Gimme more.
"I do need pudding pops." =np=

with every week. Makes me even more pissed off that they wasted last week with some gay song and dance number that I refuse to watch. Can't wait to see what's doing over there in the alternate universe.
-
...let's just say the Fringe folks did not seem to embrace the notion of a musical episode.
-
...because I like gay song and dance numbers, was a bit of a disappointment to me. If you're going to do one anyway you might as well go all in.
-
I am guessing walternate will be the mean one since he probably has his whole brain? Walter in our universe is nice because the part of his brain that was removed also controlled his attitude.
I am guessing in the end peter will pick our walter because he wont like how the other walter is. -
This was a very good episode and had that great "working with the local officials in the woods" X-Files vibe. Great ep with a kicker of a twist at the end.Btw, anyone notice the Olivia-lite episodes have been much better than when she's the main character? Peter and Walter are 10 times more interesting than her and are way better to carry a show. Hopefully they're realizing this and will start making more Peter or Walter-centric episodes.
-
They showed that either while or before he was in the institution, he was a dick that was toned down by having a piece of his brain removed. They even showed him revert back instantly when the piece was re-inserted, a great scene btw. But then in the flashback ep where he went and got the alternate Peter, he seemed like the same person that he is now, just younger and sharper. I thought he was supposed to be a complete dick back then. Am I missing something or is that a writing mistake?
-
last night, so I think it has something to do with Peter being a moderating influence.
-
I think the " Dick " that peter rememebers is the other Walter " Walternate ". I just think that our Walter was more assertive ( and probably angry since he didn't know what had happened since the piece had been removed ) when he was whole. I also think Walternate was the other Walter that our Walter saw at the foot of his bed ( not an illusion ) in ST. Clair's when he breifly returned there in the first season episode.
-
Crow,
The song from the mix is "Is there a Ghost" by Band of Horses off of their 2007 album, "Cease to Begin" - This song was also used fairly effectively in the now cancelled show "The Cleaner" on A&E. -
And the temporal lobes no less, the same parts that the Walternate goons took. A little too contrived for my taste, but a good episode nevertheless if only for John Noble's supermarket freakout.
-
I think the writers did point out the killer liked to take "souvenirs" through the shot of all the brains and pieces of brains in the jars all over the dairy barn. There are a bunch of sick people in the world (especially serial killers). It is not like Newton and his goons have cornered the market on experimenting on brains. In fact, I think that was part of the episode I liked. Most of us just jumped to the conclusion, like Peter, this was the Alt-people though in the other instances they played with people's brains they always left them alive and sitched them back up using that laser thingy. Great episode. John Noble has got to win some awards or there is no justice in this world. That freakout at the supermarket was both funny and gutwretching at the same time. Some damn fine acting. So psyched for the last two episodes.
-
except for last weeks episode. I think that it could have been really good, but the problem was that most of the actors who had a song, really couldn't sing well. If they wanted to have emulated GLEE they should have actually given some of the GLEE cast cameo roles or someone who naturally sings. It was an interesting recap of everythin thats gone on so far though. They actually took some season 1 elements and tyed them into this season which has been something thats been lacking in the past.
-
They took them I believe to prevent Walter from coming over again. They later reclaimed them to obtain information about how to cross over.
-
Actually Walter was pretty assertive and a jerk in the flashback. There was that big arguement with the blond assistant over wiether or not to cross to the alternate world.
-
I would have never watched the show again. The song and dance episode made me realize that Fringe is no substitute for X-Files. The X-Files pulled off many such silly episodes to great aplomb!
-
As far as the fantasy musical, maybe this was a Fox idea since "Glee" has been doing so well critically? I didn't mind it so much, and the Benchwarmers got to see some otherwise absent Peter/Olivia romancing. But there's still some tie to Peter's "tinman heart" in the musical, and Peter being the key in the survival of one universe over the other.
Anyway,I enjoy the foggy Pacific Northwest, "X-Files" comparisons or not.
I really enjoyed Martha Plimpton's role, although I see her mannerisms and carriage more as 'a plain woman' rather than 'a masculine woman'. The Sheriff and Peter relationship was the nicest part of the episode. Now all Hell's going to break loose with the Walternate and previews with Olivanate. Glad to hear William Bell is going to have more to do in the last two episodes. Since Nimoy has announced his retirement they would do well to kill him off. Make Walter his successor, maybe?
"Momentum Deferred", "Johari Window", "The Bishop Revival", "Jacksonville", and "White Tulip" are all favorite episodes for me from this season. Here's to hoping the last two episodes generate the same wonder "Safe" and "Ability" did last year. -
we're in for a treat.
-
The girls' brains. Someone not watch the episode? I was wondering that too... unless the "others" took the brain parts to lure Peter out in the open.
-
"Yes, you made her important. She was responsible for the death of one of us."Walter receives a simple drawing of a white tulip.Livy's melancholy version of "For Once In My Life."Peter rousted from "Is there a Ghost", by Walternate.More please.
-
last night's episode had a Twin Peaks vibe to it with a bit of X-Files thrown in...maybe it was the Pacific Northwest woods...FYI: Twin Peaks original title was Northwest Passage (title of last night's Fringe episode)
-
I want Walternate to be built into the supervillain. We need to see Walternate choking the life out of Walter with one hand. Also, it'd be cool if Walternate was kind of a ladies man and he tricked Astrid into bed.
-
Did this weeks episode and last weeks each have about 30 critical seconds at the end, and if you skipped the rest of them you wouldn't have missed anything important? I was surprised there was even that much important in the dreaded musical episode, but was dissappointed by that this week.
-
I prefer Alter-Walter as a nickname.
Anyhoo, Alter-Walter is clearly pissed off that Walter has done a runner with his progeny and has been scheming to get his revenge ever since. Perhaps that's why Bellie has been in Alter-universe, to keep tabs on evil Alter-Walter! -
It's just you. Most fans enjoy the entire enchilata.
-
so much time in the alterverse. Is he working with Secretary Walter or trying to stop him. And if this dimension's William is in the alterverse, where is the alterverse William? Or is the alterverse William the one Olivia has been meeting with?I think the show is really starting to realize the great opportunities it has, hopefully they'll keep the post hiatus momentum up from now on.

In the next episode preview, was that a glimpse of Alt-Torv?
by vikkimarsdale
In the next episode preview, was that a glimpse of alternate Olivia as a red-head? I told you she was the grown-up Donna Pinciotti (from that '70s Show)!
What if Alternate-Agent Dunham doesn't work for the FBI, instead she works for the top secret espionage agency Control (you know, Max Smart and Agent 99). Then the otherverse version of her would be CTRL-ALT-DUN.
Here's a very nice AV Club review of Northwest Passage.
http://tinyurl.com/AVclubNWpass.
Someone here said they liked the episode "in spite of" the X-Files vibe. Is that such a bad thing? I definitely picked up on both Twin Peaks and X-Files mood and loved it. But then, maybe that's because Fringe always has a faint taste of X-Files in the mix anyway.
Up above where it says But Then I accidentally typed Butt Hen.
That could be a Walter invention.
ButtHen: big chickens with more thigh meat.
Funny, with turkey (and women) I'm a breast man, with chicken I'm a leg man.
I like full lips and long straight hair, too, so I hate to say it but a couple of the best episodes this season have shown that a little (or no) Torv goes a long way. It would be funny, awful and ironic if she tries to give the alternate universe Olivia a different personality (A personality!) and we wind up liking her better. -
smokes Brown Betty and eats Puddin' Pops.
(My second favorite TV character this year turns into black smoke.)
I must have a thing for smoke.
-
The Frog, the six-fingered hand X-ray, etc?
It took me a long time to realize the Smoke was was a subliminally embedded human profile. Nice. -
Walter is getting high, listening to music and labeling his chemicals and red vies. He gets roped into baby-sitting and telling a little girl a story so he remembers the private eye tales his mother love when he was a child, brings in altered details from everything that's on his mind and because he's so stoned keeps having his characters break out into song.
Is there anyone here who hated that episode who hadn't decided in advance to hate that episode? One person who came in expecting it to be great - or at least "different" - and went away disappointed?
And, Pa, I'm glad they didn't go the 1950s Hollywood musical route and have ringers dub in professional singing voices or, worse, let guest singers from Glee or Idol do the heavy lifting. As someone else in last weeks Fringe tb pointed out, it wasn't about hitting the notes, it was conveying the feelings, and Private Eye Dunham did that for the gold.
Don't know if I ever see the boss again without thinking Broyles Sings The Blues. Yes it was stereotypical to have him singing in a black musical genre, but seeing him belt out a Broadway show tune would have been pretty weird. Funnier, though. But this was not a musical comedy. -
I thought the musical episode was good - or at least much better than I feared it would be. But it didn't really serve to advance the plot at all, except for the observer showing up at the end.
This week, mostly the same thing - Olivia knows where Peter is, and Walternate is the Chairman. The rest of the episode didn't serve to advance the plot. Though I did like that Walter finally decided to stop feeling sorry for himself long enough to try and build a device to find things that came from the alternate universe. -
Not the destination. Honestly you'd think some of you people had never watched a tv series before. At the beginning of a season it's slower paced as they set things up and have shows that are not so much about the main arc. As you approach the end of the season the pace picks up and the main arc advances quite a bit. Babylon 5 used this formula like a novel. The first few seasons were setting up the players and storyline, lots of stuff happened at the end of the season, and each following season had more stuff about the main arc. I think Fringe might be using this same formula. However every tv show has been slower at the beginning and faster paced at the end. The reason is that you can't keep up that kind of tension all the way through and make it meaningful. This is where characterization comes in. I myself like watching these chararcters even if you don't make large leaps in the main story arc. I know that will happen eventually. Now there are shows ( no names please ) that dangle the carrot way too long or never provide answers to the questions they raise ( sadly The Xfiles was in the end one of these ). That just pisses off the viewers. You can only dangle the carrot so long and if there's no pay off in the narrative that's crappy. That's one reason I like Fringe. Stuff happens and the story advances. At the beginning of the season people were complaining about it moving too slow and has it " Jumped the shark? ". Now they can't get enough of it. It's just the way tv narrative works. Call it a wish for instant gratification.
