More Details Re: That J.J. Abrams' SUPER 8 Teaser & Its CLOVERFIELD Connection??

...with a quick follow-up to THIS STORY in which Drew over at HitFix revealed details about SUPER 8 - a forthcoming project rumored to be tied to CLOVERFIELD in some way. Ney York Magazine's Vulture section is now confirming a CLOVERFIELD connection, revealing a bit more about what we can expect from the teaser which'll debut with IRON MAN 2 this weekend. BROAD SPOILER BELOW!!

Insiders familiar with the trailer tell us that it shows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the seventies or eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there's an alien creature in the frame. Our sources also say that Super 8 is absolutely connected to 2008's Cloverfield (possibly a prequel, but not a sequel).

...'there's an alien creature in the frame'... Unless I misinterpreted COLVERFILED's viral backstory, I'm pretty sure The Powers That Be were clear that the monster in that film was not intended to be of extraterrestrial origin - instead, it's supposed to be an undiscovered species of some sort, perhaps mutated (whether inadvertantly or deliberately). If SUPER 8 is, indeed, connected to CLOVERFIELD, I'm not sure how (or if) this reconciles with Vulture's characterization of an "alien" appearing in the teaser footage. Maybe "alien"is being used as a generic description by Vulture's source (i.e. not necessarily meaning "not of this Earth")? Perhaps J.J. & Co. have altered or expanded the CLOVERFIELD mythos? Maybe the kids in the teaser call the creature an "alien" 'cause that's what it looks like to them? Or...Or.... Seriously, though. If "alien" really means "extraterrestrial", 'tis interesting that Paramount would put this and Orin Peli's AREA 51 (essentially PARANORMAL ACTIVITY with aliens) into play simulataneously. We'll see...
