John McClane to return? Can't be any worse than the last one, right?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm not a fan of DIE HARD 4. At all. I saw a movie with Bruce Willis playing an action star, but I didn't see a movie with Bruce Willis playing John McClane. I love the dude, think he absolutely still has it in him, but he can't just rest on his laurels. It's depressing watching any single clip from Die Hard 4 back to back with even the worst moments of the first film or the best moments of 2 or 3. So, with Borys Kit and Jay A. Fernandez breaking the news that Fox has hired Skip Woods (HITMAN) to write the fifth Die Hard I feel torn. I'm optimistic to a fault and I always hope that bits of news like this will turn out for the best, but I also don't want to turn into the battered housewife that meekly returns to her husband's side after his last violent binge. Woods is a fairly safe screenwriter for the studio, with his fingers in THE A-TEAM (which I think looks crazy and ridiculous, but fun) as well as the god awful shitty-shitty-shitty WOLVERINE movie. Fox hiring him leads me to believe they want a writer that will bring the big and fun moments, but will do whatever they tell him. If they can hire a great action director (ie not Len Wiseman), let him or her have some creative breathing room and bring Bruce Willis down a little bit out of action star mode so he brings some humanity back into John McClane then this could help air out the room from the stench the previous piece of doggie doo left. Sounds like a lot to hope for, doesn't it? Oh, and give McClane his receding hairline, too. That combined with him not jumping out of goddamn exploding jets onto a broken freeway might make the character a little bit more relatable. Just a thought... -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
