Spielberg goes WW1 with his next flick? THE WAR HORSE looks to be next for the Berg!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Spielberg's slate has been fairly mysterious post Crystal Skull. We know he did his directorial duty on Tin Tin, but due to the crazy post-process we won't see that until December 2011. I saw Production Weekly's Twitter Feed mention it first, but it looks like Variety had them beat... I'd link to them, but for some reason, even though I'm a paid subscriber, it won't let me through the pay wall... So, fuck 'em. Let's link instead to The Wrap with the same information! Spielberg will be going back to war, this time the trenches of WW1. I know this era is of particular interest to Spielberg's friend and collaborator Peter Jackson and I have to wonder if there's a bit of a competitive spirit at play with Spielberg jumping into a WW1 epic first. Based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo, the story is about a boy and his horse separated during the war. Their paths cross multiple times as the war unfolds. I haven't read the book, but I get a distinct EMPIRE OF THE SUN vibe here. The plan right now is to have the film shot and in theaters BEFORE Tin Tin, aiming for an August 10th, 2011 release date. I still have great faith in Spielberg as a brilliant storyteller. He's had a couple of missteps, some big, some minor, in his recent work, but look at moments in WAR OF THE WORLDS and MUNICH and you'll still see one of cinema's best and most identifiable voices as strong as ever. If the dude has the passion for the work I'll be first in line. -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
