    by ballbag

High production value shows like 24 and Lost are few and far between. Im already starting my search for their replacements. I watched the first 2 episodes of the new Dr Who last night. While it has a budget of about ooooo £1 I was surprised how much i enjoyed it.

Im thinking of getting back into Flashforward as well.

They say you dont know what youve got till its gone. What will the haters bitch about then?

Is it just because the story is bullshit or is aintitcool afraid to offend, in which case you should probably remove the talkback function and stop harry from writing any more reviews.

I remember reading an interview with Xander Berkeley in the "24" official magazine about 4-5 years ago in which he stated that one of the ideas of segueing Season 1 into Season 2 was to retain the original cast, but have them switch roles (i.e., Leslie Hope as Nina Myers, Carlos Bernard as [natch] Jack, Kiefer as George Mason). A ballsy move that would have been indeed, inspite of the confusion factor. At present, I fear that this season will end the series on a somber note, rather than the (figurative) blast wave many of us are hoping for. I would be eternally grateful to the writers if they (somehow) drop Mandy back into the mix, and have her make Jack's luck finally run out. It would cleverly link back to Season 4, and bring closure to both her character and Jack's. Too much to hope for, I suppose.

and more than a few times too many in circles, some might say. I hope the vengeance angle plays out well, cause I really don't care about the rest of it. When Jack's family, colleagues, and public lives have all been at stake, who cares about a political document?

    by amazing maurice

According to the interwebs. You’ve been warned…...

Jack will NOT die in the finale.
Jack and Chloe will go head-to-head with each other.
There are still TWO major deaths to come in the last few episodes:
One will be an extremely emotional death and the other will be plain shocking.

My guess is that neither Chloe and Logan are long for this world.

Their (mebbe) forthcoming demises cannot match the emotional resonance of losing both (former) Prez Palmer and Edgar The Doofy Yet Wuvable Mushmouth in Season 5.Yes, let's keep Jack alive... because he's still needed for the proposed "24" movie. Fuck that shit--- KILL HIM! Let him die in a blaze of glory, aa well as penance for all the people he's killed.

    by jimbojones123

Another character that we have no emotional attachment to tha was created out of thin air to replace a stronger character that the show had knocked off. You know who would have been better to bring in, TONY! Not make him bad the last 3 episodes last season and have him save the day. Or maybe Bill. Hell, even AWOL Edgar would be a great team up for Jack. This Jack vs Chloe showdown is STUPID and pointlessly concieved. It will be like so many franchises, where people just throw away the most recent film or two because the public rejected them.

Spoiler - The major death coming up

    by bathman

The major death coming up at the end of the season (most likley the final episode) will be Kim, her husband and her daughterThere were spy reports that showed a car bomb and jack falling to his knees screaming. add to that that the actors that play kim, her husband and the little kid were all there for filming that day and producers have stated that they want to have jack completley lost by the time the movie starts it makes sense to have jack lose any connection to a normal lifeNo word on who is behind the bomb but rumours suggest that it will be someone from the shows past

These spoilers may not be true.....

    by sauronthepowerful

    I wonder.....

Gordon has said in recent weeks that they filmed 2 endings and that they went with one that left Jack somewhere in the middle in terms of character. He also went on to say that the final couple of episodes would be nuanced instead of grandiose in TV Guide.

To me, this would seem to be a direct contradiction to these rumors.

What I wonder is how much DISINFORMATION is being put out there to keep some semblance of a secret to the finale.

If they go the multiple death route, then I would say that Braga is indeed more involved with this show than as a custodian. THESE rumors would be an absolute disaster.

WHEN are Sutherland, Gordon, Fox, et al going to learn that repreated cheap character deaths in a serialized drama carry no emotional weight and ALWAYS damage the final product. THIS would be a disaster.....

Naked Mandy Will Go Down As...

    by crow3711

One of my favorite enigmatic "mysteries" that a show both never promised to deliver an answer on, and also never did. It's so cool how 24 created a character that believably exists in the world as some sort operative for a group we don't know and never will. Is she freelance? Does she work for a group? Hell she could be deep cover CIA. Who the fuck knows. I kind of love she kept popping up, and then just hasn't been involved since. I always sort of expected for them to make her the big bad of a season sooner or later, or at least a major player leading into who she really works for....but I think it's awesome that they didn't. She's just out there somewhere. Never got caught or arrested, hardly anyone knows she even exists. That's fucking awesome. I kind of hope she doesn't come back in the end. Just one more piece of 24s awesome legacy.

The more I think about it,

    by rk349097

the more I'm loving the idea that "24" would end with Jack's family being killed in front of his eyes (presumably in an attempt on his life), leaving him a broken shell of a human being. For one thing, you would have to admire the sheer balls of the producers for giving their show such an unrelentingly bleak conclusion. For another, it would completely fit with what the show has given us before (it's an interesting parallel to the Victor Drazen story told in Season 1) AND be an excellent set-up for the movie. What if the botched hit that ends up killing Jack's family were to be ordered by the U.S. government as retaliation for what happens in the final hours of this season? Here you would have a man who sacrificed EVERYTHING (most importantly, his very soul) for service to his country, only to have that very country take away his one shot at happiness and redemption in his life. Now, you have a ruthless killing machine- driven only by his lust for revenge- with no remaining friends, no allies and absolutely NOTHING to lose. Maybe it's just me, but I would think that would be a bad-ass concept for a "24" film.

    @rk349097

    by scors54

Y'know, I think I'm with you on that--we have the scene as described and the accidental killing of his family in a botched attempt to kill him ordered by Pres. Taylor. He is taken into custody, but sprung by Madsen and some others.

Final scene-Taylor in an office talking to Logan and the Russian about how terrible everything was, but it's all for world peace. She says that Bauer is in custody. Phone rings-Tim Woods tells her Bauer has escaped. She looks out the window to the street below and sees--Jack Bauer, looking up at her, holding a cell phone- as she begins to mouth "No..." Jack dials a number and the office explodes, killing her, Logan and the Rooskie. Jack places shades on, throws ubiquitous sack over shoulder and slowly walks away from the scene as the crowd collects.Fade...

    by oldnewbie

Which it may very not be, I will be totally rip-shit at the producers. It says essentially, "Serve your country's best interests and your entire family gets killed". Plus it's a too obvious emotional button to push; too easy to set Jack up for the proposed movie. Though I think Jack would be so devastated he wouldn't give a shit anymore and so there goes the movie. I think, and would prefer to see, Jack arrested for treason. Then in the movie, ala Rambo, the government comes begging for his help.

    Bauer is dead.

    by jack burton

He committed murder and crossed the line. I'm guessing he redeems himself with a sacrifice to protect another. Either Chloe or Taylor I'm guessing.

I'm not really digging these last episodes. Jack has gone WAY off the reservation over Renee's death. If it had been established they were a couple for months than fine, but he hadn't even seen her since the last mission it sounded like.

Murdering Dana was just out of character. There was no reason for it, she didn't pull the trigger on Rene. She didn't have anything to do with it. Just lazy writing.

I really hate Logan's lackey. I wanted to see Chloe against Jack, not another political puppet master forcing Chloe to (once again) work outside the system.

The Jack Bauer Crazy Train is no where near the rails anymore.

    by fireball xl-5

Saying they didn't know each other long enough to justify Jack's reaction to her murder, calling it "lazy writing," is really missing the point. It's a direct line to the Jack Bauer character arc. Both he and Renee are depicted as under-appreciated warriors who have sacrificed and suffered horribly in defense of their country, and yet are thrown under the bus whenever convenient for the powers that be. It wouldn't take much contact for two lost souls like that to make a connection.

    Nina's death

    by jack burton

Nina murdered Terri. She pulled the trigger. Dana was responsible for the terrorist actions, but Renee's death had nothing to do with her. That is where I think the difference is. Jack didn't have to kill her, it was rage. The scene was exactly like Quantum of Solace when Bond chose whether to kill Vesper's fiance or turn him over to MI6. Bond makes the hard but right choice and becomes a better man for it. I don't like this turn on the show. I understand all the foreshadowing and symbolism. It's not like 24 is a subtle show. I just don't think the character would go this far for Renee. Chloe or Kim, yes. But not Renee.

Kiefer's like a buddy now and Monday nights during this season always have a happy ending. But in the grand scheme, the show means almost nothing, but I'm sad it's ending.
I was sure Freddie was dead last night, but she didn't shoot him so she did tell the truth about loving him. But I don't buy that she only stayed a Russian mole to avoid prison--she killed w/o mercy and w/ glee. Fred's shove of Jack over Renee treatment sets up a revenge effort against Jack when he's mobile again. I ended up liking his character and no-nonsense acting.
great bank scene and following chase and shootout, great assault on torture site, great logan evil machinations--he's chewing the scenery and having a blast. the political dialogues i feel have been very stimulating, taking all sides of every argument seriously and translating political issues into intense human drama.
I was a bit troubled by jack's execution of renee--she murdered many people, but also could have been a source, and was unarmed. in a way, it justifies a possible ultimate death of jack by those with personal grievances against him, rather than in the line of duty--live by gun justice, die by it.

    Great episode

    by pikaroth76

I admit that this is the first season of 24 that I have disliked more than liked. While I never thought it would come close to the first or second seasons, I was SO HOPEFUL after the premier (axe to the chest!), and then, as all of us know, it went downhill so rapidly as to defy logic.

This episode, though, was the first one I really enjoyed in weeks. Jack really does need to go around and just kill everyone. Also, his shoot out with Starbuck brought back something missing for years now: the split screen! Yes, it's used from time-to-time, but nothing on the level of the earlier seasons, especially the first. Good stuff. If the last few episodes can keept his up, at least 24 will go out on a good note.

What troubles me more is how for all intents and purposes they did away with the 'real time' thing that made the show so great in the first place. This season has been awful for it. Jack tending to the wounded guy earlier for, what, 15 minutes? One thing did it for me, though: Logan talks to the President in private, she leaves the room, and his assistant seems to be about to enter - go to commercial. Three minutes later (24 used to account for those three minutes), and it comes back and the guy is just now walking in the room? I know, for most that won't matter, but I really did enjoy the real time element of it.

Anyway, great episode, and Jack is back along with his sack but minus the rack.

Better acting, better writing, better direction, better everything. Something I noticed in those clips posted above was that Sean Callery's music wasn't blaring in the background at all times, like it does now. Like that convo between Nina and George, just the two of them talking, with no bombastic music muffling them. Nowadays, it's Callery 24/7, no matter how subtle, intimate, and personal the scene. How can they end this show without giving us a final verdict on the lives of these characters?

He killed a guy and cut off his head in front of Mason and didn't get shit for that.

My Prediction for the series ending....

    by angelinasoilboy

We find out that Logan has somehow been scheming to get rid of Taylor and take back the Presidency. Taylor is blackmailed, killed or otherwise pushed aside leaving Logan in temporary command. Jack finds out that Logan has been ultimately responsible for the days events. Jack assassinates Logan at the U.N. in an ironic twist which echoes back to Season One's plot. Jack escapes with everyone (EVERYONE!) on his tail. It boils down to an emotional personal showdown between Chloe and Jack at gunpoint. Chloe cant bring herself to pull the trigger on Jack, and Jack shoots and wounds Chloe to escape again. Just as Jack thinks he's made his escape he's attacked and injured in a car crash and abducted by masked assailants who whisk him away in a mysterious van. It looks like the end for Jack...until we find out the abductors are actually Michael Madsen and his merc buddies who have come to rescue Jack and smuggle him out of the country into Europe. But there's a catch with there escape plan..Jack must leave U.S. soil forever and never return or speak to Kim again. Jack's left total alone, on the run, with no family, no friends and no place to call home.

Of course...I could be wrong :/
