Behold The Peculiar Glory Of This Japanese EXPENDABLES Trailer!!

Published at:  Apr 28, 2010 11:05:06 AM CDT

Merrick here...

I wonder, exactly, what elements make nearly any Japanese advertisement cool? I think it's the excitable urgency with which even the most mundane material is conveyed. I'm not calling THE EXPENDABLES "mundane" - just speaking generally here.

AB king pointed us towards the film's Japanese website, where you'll see a fun/super fast trailer which pretty much speaks for itself. Enjoy!

SEE IT HERE!!!

Couple thoughts on that "Trailer" Though . . .

    by dave i

First, it's a lot of excitement about a whole lot of nothing.Second, is that sort of marketing some gimmick to trigger ADHD-like energy, or just how they get into movies and such? I'd half-expect to see the movie played at 1.5X speed and served with Red Bull or something the way they advertised it.I realize it's a stereotype, but do they actually prefer a/o market their entertainment like that as a general rule? Obviously not all Japanese media is like that, most I've seen is not, but there are some notable examples that seem to be high-strung or at least just some degree of "goofy" by American standards.-Cheers

ARNOLD and SLY gods in JAPAN to this day!

    by abking

Glad to see that when they flashed by each action character that both Bruce's CHURCH and ARNOLD's TRENCH were apart of it. Overseas is where this movie is going to dominate and ARNOLD, SLY and BRUCE still rule the foreign audience. First the DENMARK poster and now this. SLY, if you are reading this, please include ARNOLD and WILLIS on the FINAL U.S. One-sheet and list special appearances by in the next EXPENDABLES trailer.

    by cobra--kai

ABKing, don't know if you've actually read Empire but sadly Sly drops the bombshell of no more Rambo movies. He states 'it's 99% certain RAMBO V won't happen'.
Although the possibility of another EXPENDABLES film certainly seems hopeful... I can't wait for this glorious cheese to hit the screen!

    by mennen

This won't make 50 in the US. It'll do business over seas and on DVD- that's how they can hope (pray) to break even. This looks like a Golan/Globus production because Sly stinks as a director. Stop blowing him, AB. Man up for Christ sake.

If only it could be the REAL "EXPENDABLES" -- the characters in a British SF novel series about the dregs of humanity being sent out to prepare hostile planets for colonization on the basis no one will miss them if they fail - which they do, more often than not.

AVI LERNER will pull out all the stops to promote this

    by abking

The funder/producer AVI LERNER has alot riding on THE EXPENDABLES and will promote the film at CANNES and advertise STALLONE/SCHWARZENEGGER/WILLIS as much as possible to sell the film in both the US and overseas. The CONAN reboot cost north of 80 million and will most likely flop and bleed red ink. Avi's cash cow is THE EXPENDABLES. Maybe Lerner will sign up with SCHWARZENEGGER in the future to make KING CONAN! Lets hope...

Cobra--Kai and Mennen RAMBO 5 and EXPENDABLES!

    by abking

Box-office sites are predicting that the film will hit no less than 130 million on the U.S. Go here http://moviemavericks.com/?p=2000 COBRA KAI, that quote must have been taken out of context because RAMBO 5 WILL be Sly's next film. THE EXPENDABLES looks and cost 80 million and it will deliver on the fun and action this summer. Make no mistake, the film will be a BLOCKBUSTER in the U.S.

    by mennen

Because it's a pile of shit. While you're working over there at the comic book store, they're trying to fix the movie that was FILMED LAST YEAR. Producers don't sit on pictures they believe will be hits... they MOVE THE RELEASE DATE UP EARLIER (Not further away)

    by nick michalak

The editor must've been on heroine. That's the only explanation for such a butchered promo ad. Slap some faces on the screen for all of half a second with some ridiculous effects and filters to drag down the quality of the film, and make it look like the equilivent of an American C-grade DTV feature. Yeah, they really know how to market overseas. I see more coherent crap from amateur editors on YouTube.

KICK ASS and THE EXPENDABLES release dates.

    by abking

LIONSGATE moved THE EXPENDABLES because they thought KICK ASS would play well before summer and that THE EXPENDABLES would play better in the summer. Lets face it, THE EXPENDABLES is a BIG SUMMER EVENT FILM, not a pre-summer film. It has SLY, ARNOLD and BRUCE in it. It belongs in the hot days of summer. Are you really that brain dead that you couldn't figure that out?

I'm not sure if this is typical, though the shouty voiceover is par for the course on films like this. What I'm talking about is all of the text and little footage. It seems they are banking a lot on Stallone's mug. Jet Li and Jason Statham are about as well known in Japan IIRC.
