Warner & Legendary Loosen Their Perseus Strings For The CLASH OF THE TITANS Sequel!!
Merrick here...
Mike Fleming over at Deadline says The Powers That Be are moving ahead with a CLASH OF THE TITANS sequel.
Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are moving ahead with a sequel to Clash of the Titans, which the studio would like as early as spring, 2012.
...says Deadline HERE.
Worthington & many of the leads will be back, Louis Leterrie will not direct (but will remain involved as an Executive Producer), and Greg Berlanti (EVERWOOD, THE GREEN LANTERN) is already working on a story while scripters are being sought.
While Leterrie's recent film was kicked around quite a bit and for many reasons, the picture ended up pulling down close to $389 million globally & it's still going - making a follow-up, at the very least, economically sensible.
Devin over at CHUD recently posted an interesting piece about an original cut of this film - a cut which would've played quite differently. If you get a moment, I'd highly recommend checking it out (HERE).

...Electric Boogaloo.

Clash of the Titans was so lackluster... WHY do a sequel to a bad movie? I hate bean counters!
-
...Clash of the Titans: Port of Call: New Orleans.
-
could it?
I'm all for more Greek mythology movies, if done well. -
Clash of the Titans: Revenge of the Shitty 3D

The folks writing the sequel will have to think up an all new original story this time around. Can Hollywood do that any more?

Besides stand on pedastals like statues at Caesar's Palace.
-
The first one was like the pilot to a really bad TV series - Perseus: The Legendary Journeys.
-
I'm also curious about the fact that they have a new script writer. I thought Leterrier said he'd already written sequels? Or at least he had ideas for them...
-
I'm not beholden to the original, and I read a ton of vitriol about it, so I was expecting something far worse than what it turned out to be.It's relentlessly mediocre, but it had an afternoon matinee-iness that made it an okay time for $7.
-
Everyone seemed to rip it. I went in with low expectations and saw the movie with a work outing. Everyone in the group enjoyed it and had a good time. That being said, I still don't get Worthington as a superstar actor.
-
I couldn't give a fuck about Worthington's character. What a plank!
-
Make it 4 hours long, the Gone With The Wind of adventure movies!
-
guess that would get a sequel greenlit
-
My title for it.
-
Come on now.
-
I didn't hate Clash, I actually enjoyed it over the original, but it had that stupid Bourne style when it came to action scenes. They also need more time with the rest of the cast especially the fellow soldiers. If they do a sequel hopefully, we get to see more of the Gods.
-
I buy the super detailed 6-7" figures made by NECA, McFarlane, etc., open them up an put them on the DVD shelf next to the movie they correspond to.
I have a couple Ash's, a bunch from Sin City and Kill Bill, a Crow, LOST, Captain Jack Sparrow, John McClane, Rorshach and a bunch more, most recently the Marvel Select War Machine from Borders (which is fucking bad).
While I liked Clash of The Titans enough that I will spend the extra money on the Blu Ray when it comes out, I didn't like it enough to by the Perseus toy that NECA made. Now, I like Sam Worthington, and the toy is definitely sweet with a really good likeness of Perseus, I just didn't like the movie enough to spend the extra money or shelf space on the toy.
I guess I'll see what happens with Nightmare on Elm St., Prince of Persia and Jonah Hex, cause those toys are sweet too. -

Finally saw this at a DRIVE-IN this past Saturday night, as the 2nd of a double-feature following The Losers. The Losers was a lot of fun, but as the night was getting really late, about a third of the way into Titans, I caught myself looking at my watch and asking myself WHY they even bothered to make this movie in the first place. After reading Devin's piece at CHUD, it makes sense now why it seemed like such a mess, and it also looks like a sequel is screwed before they even start. It really did stink of 'suits' sticking their claws into it, not to mention all the stupidity of trying to grab some 'Avatar money' by post-producing it into 3D. Bleah.
-
Please?
-
What the hell happened? Studio execs should realize that they're not creative. Let the director do his thing.
-
as Neptune?
-
Presented by Taco Bell.
Actually, a sequel focusing on some kind of reverse Titanomachy would be pretty awesome. -
Sounds like they should have stuck to the original script. They shafted this film something rotten, between the reshoots and the post-prod 3D. Here's hoping they get it right next time, although it's not looking massively promising...
-
Sequels to shit, crappy comic book movies, horrible prequels and reboots.
-
The guy that loved Terminator Salvation and hated Avatar.
-
Could not be worst than the re-make>!?!
-
Yeah, I read it, and Devin's right on point. Talk about learning all the wrong lessons. They must think people actually liked those dumbass reshoots and Zeus being Mr. Happy? Every problem I had with the movie was solved in the script. You know, the one they originally shot?
-
so eventually we may see the original cut, but since it is being franchised it won't be for several years after the franchise is done, and there would still need to be interest or Louis Letterier would have to have enough pull to get it done.
-
He has 2 movie franchises in his pocket right now.I am glad because i like him a lot both as an actor and as a person. And its a positive thing that Leterie is not directing it.thank god for that.
-
about a 2 1/2 star movie. COTT was okay, it wasnt great but it wasn't bad either. Yet all these little scrawny, nerdy, pedophile-in-training AICN fuckers are predictably screaming for blood over a sequel. My god, do ya'll even know what a bad movie is? Try watching a movie on lifetime...now that's garbage!!! It's like ya'll are trying to make COTT into the Transformers. Hell, all the rhetoric of this site practically turned Transformers ROTF into a billion dollar martyr. Fuck this place.
-
but I did like it.
-
the studio or both the studio and Letterie? ok Leterie is a lapdogs thats for sure, thats why they hire me but its a bit strange that a similar thing happened when he was filming Hulk.hm.
-
I thought I was a fan of Sam across the board, but then he responded to criticisms of COTT by saying "I don't make films for critics, I don't care what they say," which makes me think he's a bit humorless and dumb. So I still dig him as an actor, but I think as a person, his public persona is just another self-important douche. So I guess he's arrived.
-
the COTT2 will be offered to Ratner - IF the God of War movie doesn't move forward.
-
lots of disappointed people
-
film critics.that quote is something Cameron would say.hehe.and he is 100% right.films are made for the audience, not the film critics.and Sam is very cool as a person, well until now.just look at this interview he made before avatar's premiere: http://tinyurl.com/39lb3kt
-
He could make it into a viable franchise. That will be done well!
-
NOT!

Die in a Lemonade/Drain pipe cleaner switcharoo accident

That guy is the kind of cunt shredder we can all get behind.
-
gas myself in my car in the garage whilst watching COTT 1...
-
travel back to summer 1981 and kill my 10 year old self just before i go into the cinema to see the original COTT and go and see Raiders instead
-
Talkback/internet trolls hate it, it's a huge success.
-
Most movies on Lifetime don't have a $100 million dollar budget.
-
Because the first wasn't bad enough already! The krakken needs to be unleashed on this guys. Where's the kraken when we really need it?
-
COTT was a mess! Who the hell rides around on scorpions?
-
If you have feets of clay, an iron statue will not held longer. This frnachise is fucked fromthe get go, thanks to the first movie. Hiring a good writer for the sequel is just a waste of talent. This shit is doomed.
-
The flaw of the movie was the lack of a love story and the inclusion of Io. If Io and Andromeda had been the same character, many faults would have been improved (just kidnap her for the Kraken in the last act instead of "killing" Io). After that, Pegasus's entrance was tacked on shit, and Calibos was terrible and uninteresting. Oh, and frankly Hades controlling the Kraken made no sense--it should have been Poseidon's pet. And did I mention that Medusa rendering sucked? Uma Thurman in that Percy Jackson movie was more realistic. So a lot of problems with that movie, and yet I don't think Devon's revelations would have made a better movie at all. Zeus was in character to change his tune for his son, to think otherwise is to want flat characters under the lie that it's more sophisticated.
-
.... ensure that this one is actually filmed using 3D cameras this time, I MAY forgive them. If they just go for some kind of 'conversion' post-filming again, then that will be a FAIL....and if they get that stupid cheap 'n nasty Prime Focus process on it again, then it will be a FUCKIN' DISASTER artistically! These bastards nearly put me off 3D....and I happen to love 3D, but it neads to be done with care.
-
and he was bored to death by it. He wanted to leave about half way through. I had him stay, only because it would be more of a waste to walk out with ticket prices being what they are. But if a movie with winged demons, swords, monsters, and battle scenes can't keep a 10 year old entertained, there has to be something SERIOUSLY wrong with it.
-
The rest was OK. Original had a better story.
-
Make it so
-
Lovely. No thanks.

I've got millions of Ideas... GREEK myth is my fortey
-
yeah, what he said
-
Now that would be a really cool movie. Nobody has really did a really good old, old testament movie lately.

COTT 2: Cultural Learnings of Olympus for Make Benefit Glorious
by harryizafaggot
-
The story of Ulysses' efforts to make it back home after the siege of Troy is a far better story than COTT. Or do Hercules' (Heracles) 12 labors OR the abduction of Persephone by Hades. Greek mythology is full of good stories that would make great if not epic movies.
-
You know that this would be all kinds of awesome.
-
It's "Forté".
-
Clash of the Titans success proves that people love epic myths on the big screen. The PS3 game God of War 3 is just incredible and is crying out for a big budget adaptation. If Prince of Persia can get the Bruckheimer treatment, so can Kratos.
-
will be on the downward slide of his short career.
I don't care how good at sucking cock he is, no one is good enough to get 3-4 years of stardom when they have NO other talent.
I mean, Colin Farrel might still be working, but he's not fronting any summer hit movies. You know? -
Good God. Worthington was wooden. The entire idea at the heart of the movie of some stupid revolt against the gods was ludicrous. The idea that an ancient Greek would try to kill a demi-God, instead of being deathly afraid, was even more ridiculous. I know this wasn't a documentary, I give films like this wide leeway (I remember loving Sword and the sorcerer despite its flaws) and am always willing to suspend disbelief, but in this case, ugh.
-
...just WHAT THE FUCK??? Another hour and a half of Perseus coming to terms with the fact that he is not "just a man"...
-
Didn't those movies also make quite a bit of dough? I'll never understand how Hollywood thinks. If they think at all.
-
Wait. Isn't Sam pretty busy? Wouldn't they be better served improving their Greek Mythology Universe by stories involving other heroes. I was thinking along the lines of Marvel and building up to an Argonauts film.
