Warner & Legendary Loosen Their Perseus Strings For The CLASH OF THE TITANS Sequel!!

Published at:  Apr 28, 2010 9:32:35 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Mike Fleming over at Deadline says The Powers That Be are moving ahead with a CLASH OF THE TITANS sequel.

Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures are moving ahead with a sequel to Clash of the Titans, which the studio would like as early as spring, 2012.

...says Deadline HERE.

Worthington & many of the leads will be back, Louis Leterrie will not direct (but will remain involved as an Executive Producer), and Greg Berlanti (EVERWOOD, THE GREEN LANTERN) is already working on a story while scripters are being sought.

While Leterrie's recent film was kicked around quite a bit and for many reasons, the picture ended up pulling down close to $389 million globally & it's still going - making a follow-up, at the very least, economically sensible.

Devin over at CHUD recently posted an interesting piece about an original cut of this film - a cut which would've played quite differently. If you get a moment, I'd highly recommend checking it out (HERE).

I'm not beholden to the original, and I read a ton of vitriol about it, so I was expecting something far worse than what it turned out to be.It's relentlessly mediocre, but it had an afternoon matinee-iness that made it an okay time for $7.

I didn't hate Clash, I actually enjoyed it over the original, but it had that stupid Bourne style when it came to action scenes. They also need more time with the rest of the cast especially the fellow soldiers. If they do a sequel hopefully, we get to see more of the Gods.

Didn't like it enought to buy the toy

    by jackslater4

I buy the super detailed 6-7" figures made by NECA, McFarlane, etc., open them up an put them on the DVD shelf next to the movie they correspond to.
I have a couple Ash's, a bunch from Sin City and Kill Bill, a Crow, LOST, Captain Jack Sparrow, John McClane, Rorshach and a bunch more, most recently the Marvel Select War Machine from Borders (which is fucking bad).
While I liked Clash of The Titans enough that I will spend the extra money on the Blu Ray when it comes out, I didn't like it enough to by the Perseus toy that NECA made. Now, I like Sam Worthington, and the toy is definitely sweet with a really good likeness of Perseus, I just didn't like the movie enough to spend the extra money or shelf space on the toy.
I guess I'll see what happens with Nightmare on Elm St., Prince of Persia and Jonah Hex, cause those toys are sweet too.

    by big_daddy_nero

Finally saw this at a DRIVE-IN this past Saturday night, as the 2nd of a double-feature following The Losers. The Losers was a lot of fun, but as the night was getting really late, about a third of the way into Titans, I caught myself looking at my watch and asking myself WHY they even bothered to make this movie in the first place. After reading Devin's piece at CHUD, it makes sense now why it seemed like such a mess, and it also looks like a sequel is screwed before they even start. It really did stink of 'suits' sticking their claws into it, not to mention all the stupidity of trying to grab some 'Avatar money' by post-producing it into 3D. Bleah.

    by jackslater4

so eventually we may see the original cut, but since it is being franchised it won't be for several years after the franchise is done, and there would still need to be interest or Louis Letterier would have to have enough pull to get it done.

    "Sam as a person"

    by blackwood

I thought I was a fan of Sam across the board, but then he responded to criticisms of COTT by saying "I don't make films for critics, I don't care what they say," which makes me think he's a bit humorless and dumb. So I still dig him as an actor, but I think as a person, his public persona is just another self-important douche. So I guess he's arrived.

I didn't agree with Devon, Zeus shouldn't be villain

    by drath

The flaw of the movie was the lack of a love story and the inclusion of Io. If Io and Andromeda had been the same character, many faults would have been improved (just kidnap her for the Kraken in the last act instead of "killing" Io). After that, Pegasus's entrance was tacked on shit, and Calibos was terrible and uninteresting. Oh, and frankly Hades controlling the Kraken made no sense--it should have been Poseidon's pet. And did I mention that Medusa rendering sucked? Uma Thurman in that Percy Jackson movie was more realistic. So a lot of problems with that movie, and yet I don't think Devon's revelations would have made a better movie at all. Zeus was in character to change his tune for his son, to think otherwise is to want flat characters under the lie that it's more sophisticated.

Good God. Worthington was wooden. The entire idea at the heart of the movie of some stupid revolt against the gods was ludicrous. The idea that an ancient Greek would try to kill a demi-God, instead of being deathly afraid, was even more ridiculous. I know this wasn't a documentary, I give films like this wide leeway (I remember loving Sword and the sorcerer despite its flaws) and am always willing to suspend disbelief, but in this case, ugh.
