EW: The Quest Has Ended For LEGEND OF THE SEEKER!!
I am – Hercules!!
“Legend of the Seeker” has been cancelled after two seasons, according to sources speaking to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello.
The syndicated series is produced by ABC Studios, which also recently axed its syndicated “At The Movies.”
Based on the Terry Goodkind novels, it was overseen by the same Sam Raimi-led production company behind the “Hercules” and “Xena” syndicated series.

Thats bullshit!
-
...where I live. I have a vague image of knowing that it was one... maybe on Saturday morning? Err... or maybe late night. lol Not sure. But I for sure couldn't tell you what channel, or that I'd ever even considered watching it.
-
...I meant. Didn't seem to have any kind of advertising, either.
-
I had no trouble watching it every Saturday afternoon at 4. I'll miss this show since it was the only sword & sorcery series I've liked since the end of Hercules & Xena.
Maybe if it took place on a cul-de-sac where one of the back-stabbing neighbors operated a musical song & dance club, it would have survived... -
Seriously - I really like her in LOTS and I was watching it with my wife and we both were talking about how she could probably pull off Wonder Woman. She has the right look and can obviously do athletic stuff. I'm sorry that the show is ending as I liked it but maybe a casting director will take notice if they ever get a WW movie off the ground. However, likely they will use it as a star vehicle for someone who will not be believable as WW... I'm sorry, but Megan Fox as WW is just not gonna work...
-
The show must have cost too much to make. It was a good show. I enjoyed it.
-
Now Regan can move onto Wonder Woman.
-
This show was a lot of fun. And Craig Horner was hot. SyFy should pick it up, it'd be an improvement over all that awful dreck they show. It would pair nicely with Merlin. Damn!
-
...is that the dead don't stay dead. I haven't read the books but it gets a bit tiresome to keep killing badguys and then bringing them back. Wouldn't standard procedure everywhere be cremation at that point? Also, does everyone go to the same place when they die? The show seems to suggest that everyone who dies ends up with the Keeper(and they can choose to make a bargain with him to go back to life). So do really, really good people end up there too? What about good people who end up there and tell the Keeper to piss off? Are they damned too? Seems kinda pointless to me...do the books explain this a bit more?
-
Snow White in the Fables TV series. She can do WW during summer break.
-
They departed way way to far from the books. I mean seriously, making Darken Rahl Richards brother? That was almost enough to get me to stop watching it. I enjoyed most of the books a lot (though I probably could have skipped some of the middle ones and not missed much), but the show kept screwing with the story and twisting it so much that it didn't even resemble anything from the books anymore.
-
Figures they probably won't count Hulu and Netflix viewers in their numbers. I mean why would they, it's not like we count or anything.
This show was pretty awesome, next thing I'll find out they cancelled Human Target.
I Love how these studios in this case what used to be the WB forgets that it was Raimi's shows that pretty much built that network with Hercules and Xena. Without them they would have only had TekWars to start with.
Morons -
They only count the viewers they can make advertising money off of. The advertisers aren't going to pay them for people who watch the show on Hulu/Netflix/torrents.
-
I bought episodes from iTunes. Here is the real question - most of us geeks who watch these types of shows are probably more likely to get them from iTunes, Hulu, Netflix, etc. Does this matter at all to the survival of a TV show? I don't even watch conventional TV at all anymore - I watch pretty much everything on iTunes or DVD. I haven't watched regular TV channels in about a year. Will a show get cancelled because it's conventional "ratings" are low but people are buying it off of iTunes in droves?
-
Which is more than can be said for alot of stuff out there right now.
-
Not surprised.
-
It was just one of those guilty pleasure things you watched every week. It comes on every Saturday afternoon here in the Chicago area, and if I'm home, usually have it on in the background or something. Gonna miss that crazy ass show with its clevage-sporting Confessor and her dominatrix friends.
-
FUCK!!! Do they have to fucking cancel EVERYTHING I love? FUCK anyone who doesn't feel my pain!!
-
Apr 26, 2010 3:13:46 PM CDT
I think LOTS might be the only known show on those networks...
by cc0n99
I couldn't tell you anything else that airs on this stations other then LOTS and I have never watched it. I actually planned to watch seasons 1&2 over the summer in hopes of catching up before season 3 aired. I would hope SyFy would pick it up and pair it with Merlin or something, but SyFy's more intent on becoming the WWE network.
-
I thought it was terrible. But sorry to those who liked it, it wasn't hurting anybody.

Had never even heard of Seeker till the S1 DVD ads were on TV
by zillabeast
-
available on TV. Damn shame.
-
Man... this just makes me miss LOST all the more...
-
Shit. This was better than Hercules and Xena and all that other tripe. They actually took the it seriously and it was great. Unfortunately, they showed it sporadically and at a lousy time (mid-days Saturday). I lucked into it by DVR.
-
I'm glad it's canceled. They went out of their way to ruin a great series by not interpreting it correctly at all.
-
looked really good. but it was on rte 11.30 am on a saturday morning.
-
really ever. I just hope if they do cast Bridget Regan. linda carter doesnt open her mouth and say I dont approve.
-
I'm watching all the first season right now on Netflix and watch it whenever it's on TV.
-
Because it is actually believable that she could beat the living crap out of you(and look hot while doing it). And she can actually act. I really think it is going to be the hottie of the moment vehicle. In which case all is lost anyway because whomever is making the movie has no idea what Wonder Woman is about...
-
in boob-revealing leather outfits. There wasn't any other show filling the sword and sorcery niche.
-

Are they insane!?!?! First Survivors and not this!
by hollywoodhellraiser
This easily one of the best adventure shows on tv!!!It reminds you of old school Adventures of Hercules and Xena!!!Please someone pick this up ASAP!
-
Have to admit I've been really enjoying LOTS, but even over here in the UK it was terribly underpromoted. If nothing else, I liked the fact that there was a wizard in the main cast who wasn't afraid to blow shit up every now and again. I suppose I'm going to have to track down the books now, even though the differences will probably melt my brain.
Damn, now I'm depressed. The whole mass-market focus of TV these days is getting seriously out of hand :( -
The books are serviceable fantasy but VERY derivative and flat. Characters are mostly cardboard cutouts and the writing is very plain. If you want "great" fantasy read Game of Thrones or Malazan.
-
I never watched it, im a fan of medieval fantasy... but it seemed to be a bit too much on the Hercules/Xena level.
-
and you'll forget all about this show.
-
I'm just saying . . . Tabrett Bethell.
-
cancel merlin
gawd what a horrible show -
This was my favorite show! It was so much better than most of the shit that's on nowadays.
Fuck. -
Crap
-
She was the big draw anyway.
-
I don't care what anyone says LOTS was one of the better produced fantasy based TV shows in recent memory.
-
good, but with game of thrones and Spartacus on the way, the Seeker would just get lost in tv land
-
expect more reality tv to replace THE SEEKER. You know who to thank! HYPE REFUTED AGAIN!
-
yeah, that can be cancelled then, too, just like DEADWOOD. HYPE DOUBLE REFUTERD.
-
How AICN never wrote any articles about Legend of the Seeker??
-
Flip a coin, doesn't matter which one of them you choose - you still win. Every time I look at both these girls I say to myself, I would choose this one. Then I change my mind. The world is a darker place now that LOTS was cancelled. FUCK YOU BASTARDS that cancelled it.
-
FUCKING BASTARDS
-
Loved this show.
-
I knew something was up when Hulu hadn't posted a new episode for several weeks. Maybe if we can order the season 1 DVD box sets en mass we can change their minds? I also submit Bridget Regan for Wonder Woman, and Tabrett Bethell for ANYTHING that gets her on my TV screen on a regular basis, preferably in leather.

I thought Seeker was winning demographics, move it to Starz.
by stereotypical evil archer
-
because only gay people like that shit that constitutes the Sword of Truth books. Actually, I have to apologize to gay people. They have taste. They wouldn't like that shit either.
-
Then I refute again to reverse the double negative. Because we're all too cool for hype...
-
Have you read the books?
-
Maybe someone will someday do a good job with Butcher books, be it Dresden or the Codex Alera. I am pretending the syfy version never happened...
-
Jim Butcher needs to be taken seriously. I have greatly enjoyed the Dresden Files (the books, of course. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with that SyFy series (Ahem...that never happened)). Haven't read the Codex Alera series, though. Too bad about Seeker. I enjoyed it.
-
I'll miss Legend of the Seeker. It was really fun...
-
This fuckin show blew. Took at least a decent SciFi (not Syfy) series and turned it into a steaming pile.
-
Apr 26, 2010 9:57:35 PM CDT
Only watched the pilot of LOTS but Bridget Regan is HOT!!!
by thanos0145
She would make a good Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Catwoman, or Lois Lane.
-
This show was fun, exciting, and sexy. My wife even liked the show.
-
I think syfy would be better doing a miniseries or something for the Dresden Books. Butcher gets the TV rights back from Syfy in a year or so I think, so we'll see what happens.
-
Imagine what HBO could do with Dresden! And rabidfnark, read the Alera Series. It was outstanding. Regarding the Dresden syfy series, I actually thought the actor cast to play him wasn't so bad a choice. They totally blew Karrin, of course, not to mention Bob!
-
to say how much everything sucks without adding anything to the discussion...took you longer than usual...
-
"Jensen Ackles," only taller, personally) But practically everyone else was miscast. And the 'Hockey Stick/Staff' thing that really bothered me. And I'll check out Codex Alera, thanks.
-
Just curious - what would you consider a better show in this vein, and why exactly didn't you like this one(the show, not the books as the show is different from the books)?
-
Goodkind is just a poor man's Robert Jordan who himself is a very poor man's Tolkien.
Horrible acting and cheesy leather outfits. I'm sure HBO's Song of Ice and Fire series will be much better for the genre -
The nature of his relationship with Bianca on that show (Dresden Files for those of you just tuning in.) was...beyond ludicrous. I mean if they hadn't read ANY of the books why make the show? No, don't answer that, let me keep some of my illusions.
-
...if by "cheesy" you mean "fucking hot". Holy shit, I would love to be captured and tortured by those women, as long as that's what they were wearing.
-
The cancellation was announced a couple of months ago, but since it's syndicated I guess they were hoping someone else would pick it up. Oh well. It was an average tv series based on an average series of novels, but it was fun. I was hoping it would last until Game of Thrones rocked up, but can't say I'll miss it all that much.
Talking about series to adapt, how about one of Tad Williams series? Memory, Sorrow and Thorn was a great fantasy series I'd rank up there with A Song of Ice and Fire - sure, it had several fantasy cliches but they were done in a way to make it feel unique enough. The Otherworld series would make a fantastic sci-fi program, but I'd imagine it would be pretty expensive. The current Shadowland series is probably the weakest, it reminds me a lot of ASOIAF but GRR Martin did it so much better. Anyway, I'm happy enough with GOT on the way, I just hope HBO doesn't fuck it up - but with their track record I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! -
Probably why it's being canceled.
-
The producers were basically the same, and good ol' Ted Raimi showed up on it as well. I had initially wrote this show off, I at first could not stand Richard's constant 5 O'clock-I-can't-shave-nor-grow-a-beard-Shadow, but the show grew on me. Yes, hot chicks in awesome leather medieval type outfits was the draw... Since, I've never read the books, I can't speak to the adaption aspect, but every time I watched on Hulu, I would read the plethora of bitching about the liberties taken. My 2 cents... Dump the Richard actor, and do a reboot/remix/homage to Xena with the two female leads. Too bad it's canned but even storylines of late seemed to be commenting ironically on the state of Richard's "quest".

Entertaining show...nothing really to do with the books...
by dreamwriter
The show was at its worst when it did something from the book (like the first two episodes), it was at its best when it just did its own episodic thing. Really made no sense to me why they paid money to license the franchise - they ditched the name, didn't really keep any of the plot elements, the characters all had different personalities and backstories, and they pissed off fans of the books. Which BTW, the first 3 and last 3 are among my favorite books, but some of those middle ones are among my LEAST favorite books. The author just gets way too preachy.
-
It's a pretty cool show with the sword battles and magic and fantasy stuff. Most of all it has the most beautiful woman on the planet in Bridget Regan! That dark hair and blue eyes with that beautiful face! Dumb bastards!!!!
-
It's great that you have an opinion, fact is I love terry Goodkind's work. I've read those other series you mentioned and GRRM is great, but doesn't change the fact that I prefer Goodkind.
-
when i paused for my wife to get a drink and saw this news here. what the hell? why do all the fun shows get cancelled just when they are getting really good. i guess i won't hold my breath for Game of Thrones to get a season 2.
-
My wife and I watch this show regularly. On several occasions I have actually stated to my wife during the screening that this was a well written episode. I thought it was quite innovative in many areas which of course came from the original books. The Confessors were a cool concept, for example. They even had a mummy episode with a cool new twist (the mummy's bandages were the magical element which went from host to host and snapped out to ensnare their victims). I did have a problem with **everyone** going to the same section of the underworld. As a commentor said above that just didn't make sense. But over-all this was an excellent Sword and Sorcerer show.
-
Pretty much everything post-Tolkien is a poor mans Tolkien.
-
Im kinda bummed about this news because I really did like all the actors, but it felt like this season was just spinning its wheels. Definitely not as good as season 1. Plus, Spartacus kinda spoiled me in the swords and sandals arena, so watching this always felt so PG to me. I definitely hope to see Bridget Regan again, and agree that she would make a good WW. I wouldnt be surprised if some of the LOTS actors migrate to Spartacus for the prequel and season 2.
-
despite how cheesy it was.
-
It was the most fun show on TV.
-
inappropriate times. While not gorey, SEEKER is pretty violent. That new 90210 got a 7pm slot on RTE 2 and it is about nothing but teenage sex, and yet REAPER got a 2/3 am slot.
-
If you read the books, you should have shut this POS off after the first minute of the first episode. They just got it wrong. All wrong. And come on... it's fucking Xena quality shit.
-
be Wonder Woman. Second, enough with GAME OF THRONES talk here. SEEKER is a fun adventure show with wizrds and monsters. GAME OF THRONES has no wizards and will not be an adventure series (I'm looking forward to it, but the two are not the same).
So let's see - you Yankee bastards have murder MIILLENEUM, BRIMSTONE, DEADWOOD, REAPER, ROME and now LEGEND OF THE SEEKER, and yet desperate housewives, grey's anatomy anmd all that reality bollocks just keeps on going. It's a miracle LOST has survived. FUCLK YOU ALL!!! -
and I don't give a shit that they are different to the TV. That is not even a sensible point.
-
Stop teasing us, woman!
-
I for one really enjoyed this series. Oh, and as hot as Bridget Regan is, nobody seems to be throwing any desire in the direction of Tabrett Bethell (Cara). Gorgeous.
-
Apr 27, 2010 1:02:42 PM CDT
surprised the hell outta me. Actually, wasn't that bad.
by claireredfield
The best thing about it was that the main character wasn't portrayed by a douche. The guy wasnt a bad actor, and had some charisma. Too bad for him.
And, Jarek, the chick who played Cara peacocked around so much, no one had TIME to think she was hot. She was too busy doing it for you. -
well, 6 of them anyway. It's actually one book, written 6 times over. I've read just about every Fantasy series since the genre was conceived, so it's not like I'm a fantasy hater. It's just that Goodkind sucks. And sucks hard. That douchebag balding with a ponytail glamour shot on his dust jacket should tell you that you're dealing with the literary equivalent of Coach from Survivor. If you want to read good fantasy, so you can have some basis for comparison, read Steven Erickson's Malazan series. It splits the skull of Richard and Kahlen and shits in their heads - with awesomeness.
-
It was just so terribly poorly written.
That said, I really liked the show and got into it easily. The babes helped, but the storylines were engagingly simple enough. -
Apr 27, 2010 1:49:19 PM CDT
If they wanted season 3, they should have had Cara and Kahlann
by v'shael
make out. A lot.
-
Never read the books. I just might now. For the sake of full disclosure, I did half watch it for the women. The very HOT women.
-
So I don't care it was cancelled. The only good syndicated shows to exist were TNG and DS9.
-

Listened to all the books, with the exception of his objectivist
by toruk_makto
But I steered clear of this series, maybe if they produced it for HBO or showtime I would have gave it a go. I'm very eager to see how GRRM's ASOIAF series turns out.
-
Apr 27, 2010 7:55:24 PM CDT
objectivist rants (which were plenty) I found them enjoyable..
by toruk_makto
fuckin' form clipped my header.
-
was the same.
-
Put her on anything and I'll watch it but, yeah, she IS Wonder Woman.
-
isn't Yvonne Strahovski.
-
night? She spent a good chunk of it in lingerie and skimpy briefs that were so tight, you could tell she has a landing strip. (God bless hi-def.)
-
But I'll still miss THE BOOBS!!
-
Most TV is throw away fluff, especially genre series--but this show had adult sensibilities. It was smart, and always placed a clever twist on the traditional sword and sorcery yarn(s).Finally, we got a series here for the adult mind, that was not A-sexual in tone, but was rolling in unapologetic sexuality--a fact that gave it grit, and made it multi-dimensional. Let's hope Sy Fy Channel picks it up--as genre show's are known not to shine in the ratings until their 3rd to 4th years on TV.This show deserves 2 to 3 more seasons to get its ratings legs, and begin to snare a wider audience.
-
a patch on Regan. Character wise the girl in Chuck is a bit whiney and I like her in her undies as much as the next fella, but Kahlann is believable in the ass kickery and doesn't need sexy lingerie to case a chap to blow his load - if fact if Bridget Regan did appear in knickers I'd probably be killed from the discharge putting me through the wall.
-
OF THRONES
-
Don't pretend it was any deeper than it was. It was entertaining fluff, but it was still fluff. It was practically asexual since you the main characters went for most of their character arcs afraid to touch, and sex was frequently equated with marriage between the two. If that's your idea of unapologetic sexuality, then whatever the hell you do, don't watch Spartacus. It will blow your mind.LOTS, like Xena and Hercules before it, could slash a dozen soldiers and never see a drop of blood. That's fluff for you.
-
is hard to find these days. Either something is art (Treme, Wire, Breaking Bad) and/or it is "serious and intense" (Lost) or it is crap (just about everything.) LOTS, Supernatural, Chuck, the late Reaper, even Rome if you think about it are/were fluff, but they were fluff you did not feel like an ahole for watching. That's starting to fade off from TV. Hoping from early indications that Moffat/Smith's Who will be good fluff: RTD/Tennant's generally rode the line between wankery and faux emotional intensity.
-
I will correct that to the second season of Rome. The first season was a bit more grounded, historically and character wise.
-
...but harmless fun. The show was rough at first but by the second half of Season 1, it managed to entertain and even had a few moments of greatness. A real shame no one picked it up....there aren't many fantasy alternatives out there for TV viewers.
-
I liked books 1 and 2 okay, it took me a few reads to get into them. He's good at characterizations and the story is decent (but reminds me of a Star Wars/Wheel of time bastard child) but the execution and the writing is really really bad. Horribly bad. Where was his freakin' editor? Why didn't they edit his preachy Ayn Rand regurgitation bullshit? On and on and on, page after page after page. When readers start going on about how great Goodkind is, I have to wonder if they're just really young or haven't read much fantasy.
And about the show... I'm glad they didn't follow the books too closely. The basic idea was borrowed and from there the writers did their own thing. I'm good with that. As others said, there are no other sword and sorcer alternatives out there except for Merlin, which I like, but it's very PG. -
I love this show
-
Young Shota almost equals Chuck chick for me, and Kara and Caylenn way more.

Herc.. Would you be willing to post an article to help save Legend of the Seeker? You could post a link to season 1 DVD from amazon in the article. I bet you'll get a lot of traffic from avid fans - promise. I'll buy three copies myself if you do this.
-
especially involving a chick like Bridget Regan
-
with a bit of a fluff. I wouldn't have watched the show otherwise.
I called it fluff as a response to the rather silly claim that the show was adult, gritty, and full of "unapologetic sexuality"
No. It's fluff. Nice entertaining big boobed fluff.
