FINAL DESTINATION 5 gets a writer... a thingy, nightmarish writer!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. There have been a lot of horror-fan comparison of the SAW franchise to the 80s run FRIDAY THE 13THs because there's one every year, they're cheap to make and they rake in the cash, I guess, but in my mind the FINAL DESTINATION films are a lot closer to the FRIDAY THE 13TH series, especially in tone. After the first couple entries the FRIDAY series became about extreme exploitation. Hell, the first two aren't exactly Shakespeare, either, but when the series went 3-D and Jason got his hockey mask they knew what they were and proceeded to run themselves into the blood-soaked, titty covered ground. And, yeah, I love 'em for that reason. Entertainment in the forefront. The FINAL DESTINATION films, for good or ill, go straight for the entertainment button, just like the FRIDAY films did. It's all about the inventive kill and just having fun. As long as they keep making money WB/New Line will keep making them, so it wasn't all that surprising when we heard the next installment is in the works... and in 3-D. Borys Kit's Heat Vision Blog says that horror remake/reboot wunderkind Eric Heisserer is on the case. Heisserer is credited with both THE THING and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET redos. The promise is to shake a few things up so they don't get caught in a rut... Not exactly sure how they're going to do that as the formula is what makes a FINAL DESTINATION movie a FINAL DESTINATION movie, but I'm all for a studio getting behind doing something a little different. And if that doesn't work, then it's reboot time, right? There is talk of a Lasik surgery in the movie, which is kind of brilliant. If you've ever seen one, you know why... if you haven't, I'm about to royally fuck up your day.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! So, yeah. That's the news. Flick comes out next year in 3-D. Sorry about the eye thing. -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
