Greg Mottola Scripting IMPORTANT ARTIFACTS...

Merrick here...
Greg Mottola, director of SUPERBAD and director/writer of ADVENTURELAND, will script IMPORTANT ARTIFACTS - based on Leanne Shapton's book Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry (available HERE).
Brad Pitt and Natalie Portman quickly became attached to star in what Mottola will spin into a romantic comedy. The stars are also producing through their respective banners, Plan B and Handsomecharlie Films.
...says THR HERE. The book is described thusly by Amazon's editorial review:
“Important Artifacts . . . from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris may look like an everyday auction catalog. But the auction itself is a literary conceit: What this book-type object really does is show us the trajectory of a failed four-year relationship — by showing us the physical detritus that two (fictional) lovers leaver in their wake.
I completely 'get' the premise of this and it could be fascinating. I used to be profoundly impacted by the...things...left behind by my legion of former girlfriends - "stuff" does carry a certain power. if Mottola can figure out how to capture/convey such esoteric and etherial reactions for film, this could be really interesting.
