Michael J. Bassett's SOLOMON KANE is a fun and fairly bloody take on Robert E. Howard's serialized saga about the exploits of a damned 17th Century mercenary. For me, it felt like a throwback to the sword-and-sorcery flicks of the 1980s; I also appreciated that Bassett stuck with the relentlessly serious tone of Howard's books, rather than inject a some humor into the proceedings to make it more "accessible". Tonally, SOLOMON KANE feels directly related to John Milius's CONAN THE BARBARIAN. If you loved that classic, I think you owe it to yourself to check out Bassett's picture. So I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to give away some tickets to the Newport Beach Film Festival's two screenings of SOLOMON KANE this weekend! I have six (6) pairs of tickets for each showing.
