‘Bauer Needs To Be Stopped!!’
Monday Fox Brings 24 8.18!!

Published at: April 19, 2010, 1:37 a.m. CST

I am – Hercules!! Ladies! If Jack Bauer offers to get to know you? You’re extra-likely to leave a good-looking corpse. Just ask Teri Bauer, Nina Myers and Renee Walker. Oh wait, you can’t; they all died violent post-coital deaths! Well, maybe ask instead Jack’s season-five landlord Diane Huxley, who only barely managed to evade the horny deathtrap that are Bauer’s loins. Or Mandy The Assassin, who continues to cavort nakedly far from terrorist-riddled Manhattan – perhaps because she was never in danger of being gifted with Bauer’s manly essence. Producers indicate Grandpappy Bauer was just warming up when bullets ripped into the disgraced special agent to whom he was making love last Monday. He had merely taken a break from Walker’s first Power Hour to replenish the Jack Sack with a masculine glass of water. And! After nearly seven full seasons of taking orders from stupider managers with better political connections, nonsense-despising Chloe O’Brien is finally large and in charge at The Counter Terrorism Unit. Now that the first of this season’s CTU moles has been exposed, perhaps she’ll even implement some sort of rudimentary employee screening process. Fox says of tonight’s installment:
With only seven hours left in the series' final harrowing day, Jack Bauer sets out to avenge the tragic life-changing events that he has endured. As things become even more personal for Jack, he heads to CTU for an intense meeting after learning of a devastating development. Meanwhile, on the verge of achieving peace on a scale that has eluded the world for generations, President Taylor becomes deeply conflicted when former President Logan sits down at the bargaining table. Guest Cast: Bob Gunton as Ethan Kanin; Frank John Hughes as Tim Woods; Necar Zadegan as Dalia Hassan; Gregory Itzin as Charles Logan; Sarah Hollis as Presidential Aide; Graham McTavish as Mikhail Novakovich.
9 p.m. Monday. Fox.

    Everyone dies eventually... on 24

    by AndoSoundsLikeAMong

I just hope Chloe makes it out alive, but then she'll probably have to make it through the movie. Kim too. Characters never get away, they just keep coming back until they die. Bill was tough last year, and Walker buying it gave this otherwise fairly lack-lustre season a real jolt of that old 24 feeling...

    Obvious = Choe Vs. Bauer

    by DC Films

Bauer will go rogue after chesty's death - hunting down the Russian diplomat - and his actions will threaten the peace process.<p><p>Thus, Chloe's promotion will become a poison chalice when she's ordered by the Prez to stop Bauer by any means (CTU will be trying to kill Bauer).<p><p>It's a nice twist, but predictable. <p><p>Obviously the Russians will have to re-enter the peace talks to give the Prez enough motivation to order Bauer's death (and i'm sure Logan will enjoy helping her make that decision).

  • April 19, 2010, 4:23 a.m. CST

I'm glad this show is ending.

    by Holeman

Been with it since the beginning and Renee getting offed last week was as predictable as the mole and the attack on CTU and everything else that has been choreographed on this fucking show since Season 4. The last time it really surprised me was when Chance's hand went flying off at the end of season 3. Let it die and hopefully be replaced with something that can maintain a little originality for at least as long as this show did.

    Charles Logan Is BAD MAN!

I'm still loving this show, it's great, killing Walker was harsh, but Jack Bauer isnt allowed to be happy. <P> The season finale is going to be devastating.

Jack After Revenge is So Predictable So...

    by bobbyjoe

...why doesn't the show go in a different direction? Instead of getting revenge, Renee's death causes Jack to finally go nuts. We realize that Jack's finally had too much, and his poor mind finally snaps. He'll do anything to keep Renee alive in his head. Chloe calls a meeting at CTU, and Jack shows up wearing Renee's clothes, speaking in a Pythonesque high-pitched voice and insisting everyone call him "Renee." Chloe is trying to prevent global disaster and Jack won't stop talking about how his high heels are really pinching his ankles. In the final episode of the series, Jack-as-Renee hears it's the President's birthday and shows up at the UN to sing "Happy Birthday" to her in the exact same style as Marilyn Monroe did to JFK. Then Jack locks the President in a broom closet, and the final image of the series is Jack wearing one of the President's dresses, wearing a bad wig with lipstick smeared all over his face, saying over and over again "I'M the President now! Aren't I a pretty President?" as the show fades to black.

  • April 19, 2010, 5:54 a.m. CST

    @Bobbyjoe - Awesome ending.

    by V'Shael

But sadly, never to happen. Jack is still the torture-loving poster boy for the republican party. They'd never embrace a mentally deranged cross dresser as a national icon... oh wait. Rudy Giuliani.<br /><br />I stand corrected. Carry on.

What no mention of the first back to back silent clock ever?

    by Rob0729

The last episode was a real milestone, the first back to back episodes that end with a silent clock. Really don't know why President Foreign Elvis got his own silent clock when Tony Almeda didn't get one when he "died". He was the only character to get a silent clock that who wasn't on at least two seasons.

  • April 19, 2010, 7:31 a.m. CST

Im beginning to wonder if Logan.....

    by Ballbag

....is again pulling the strings in an act of revenge. The reason I say this is because I was under the impression that Michael Madsen was the big bad however it seems like he is going to be a friend of Jack. If thats the case then there is no real visible big bad this season.

All you whiny know it alls

    by rogueleader66

just stop watching the show if it sucks so much. people are tired of the bitching, whining and the "oh i predicted that from day one" "I knew that was gonna happen". So do us all a favor, shut up, don't watch the show and end your stupid whiny know it all bullshit. Its tired, its boring. <P>That being said, the show seems to be ending well, started off slow this season but has picked up considerable steam. Hope Jack flips out this week because of Renee's death, and racks up a good body count. Would be nice to see him beat down Starbuck.

    by malificus

..any other way. Surely you don't think Jack is destined to live a normal, blase life filled with propane burgers and lawn mowing? The only way you'd catch Jack near a soccer field is if the ball was filled with anthrax dust and the ref was a terrorist plant.

    ANGER at 24

    by jimbojones123

Last weeks move to off Renee was right at the core of the biggest problem with this show over the past 5 years. Unnecessary killing of core characters that do not help the plot but just piss off fans. You would think the first 4-5 times they did it would have been enough, huh?

  • April 19, 2010, 8:54 a.m. CST

24 ending - who kills Logan?

    by austinguy

Best guess for final hour: Logan goes out in final minutes in one of these scenarios: 1) Jack learns that Logan killed Palmer, does the deed; 2) Jack stops at last minutes, Logan gets in limo which is blown up by Russians, who finally learned that Logan was behind attack on Suvarov in S5; 3) return of Tony, who finally gets his revenge for Michelle. Your guess?

    by Miyamoto_Musashi

I want to see Jack, find out that his granddaughter has been kidnapped, taken to some small island, or estate. <p> Jack then raids an armoury, and we see him go crazy like Arnie at the end of Commando. <p> The end shot is Jack walking away from a destroyed mansion, bodies everywhere, covered in blood, carrying his granddaughter and with a huge smile.

    by Thanos0145

WHEN HE THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO KILL OFF FRECKLES BAUER. It was bad enought that the writers retconned Renee's origin to include that Russian backstory that had Renee being raped. After they hit the high-water mark in season 5, this series took a serious nose-dive. The twists used to be mind-blowing; now they're a joke. When Starbuck was revealed to be a mole, I burst out laughing. The formula hasn't worked for a long time. I AM going to miss Chesty McFreckles. Mmmm...

Agreed with the balls out crazy ending

    by tomdolan04

...seriously Kiefer, they need to just plain go nuts and end with a finale that is original Prisoner style 'what just happened'. <p> Personally I'd like a fifteen way mexican face/off where everyone in CTU pulls guns on each other declaring themselves to be moles. Jack enters CTU to find bodies everyone. With each body he finds, they whisper to him "You're too late Bauer - I'm not the baddie, the man behind it is T..." Then dies in his arms. Jack proceeds to do this with every person till he exits. <p Jack leaves for the White House. He finds Ethan across he desk with a gun in his hand in a direct shot-for-shot pose of how he was found dead in Shawshank. He goes to the main chamber and finds a dog with headphones at a control desk. Jack cries, falls to the floor and says 'so you were behind everything'. The silent (hill 2) clock plays, followed by jingly music and woofs. And a shot of naked mandy at the end saying 'thanks for playing'.

    My ending would be.....

    by Drsambeckett1984

Jack defeats the villains, everything seemed fine, we learn Kim hasn't actually left New York because all the planes were grounded. <P> Jack and Kim meet in a diner for coffee, they have a nice talk about everything that happens over the years. <P> A waitress with long blonde hair serves their food, Kim eats and starts to choke. Jack grabs Kim but she dies in his arms. The final shots are of the waitress leaving the diner through the back, ditching the blonde wig and getting into a waiting car, revealing it to be none other than Nina Myers!

with Jack getting congratulatory hugs and handshakes from his peers, and then getting killed by some teenage car jacker on his way to the airport. Terrorist with a nuke? No problem. Stringy, desperate 16-yr. old car jacker? Dead Jack. Yeah, that would be good. Man... I miss Rack's tits already.

    by chromedome

Jack is gunned down in a fire fight--with his last breath he gasps "Dammit" as he squeezes the trigger and kills the guy who killed him. Eyes shut. Stillness. Fade to silent clock....<p>Silent clock morphs to silent heart rate monitor--we see a blurry scene from Jack's point of view...<p>Slowly the image becomes clearer: Olivia Wilde is nose to nose with him, shining a light into his eyes.<p>Startled, she shouts over her shoulder, "Get Dr. House!"<p>Change to shot of room: Kim and Mandy are nurses working frantically in the room. Freckles is a nurse rushing to find House. Cuddy runs in, a look of surprise...<p> "he just woke from his 8-day coma"<p>Jack is a used-care salesman....

  • April 19, 2010, 8:51 p.m. CST

You guys are calling this shitty writing?

    by chaseguy17

This is by far the best political plot the show has seen. Honestly. This is entirely believable. The russians hands are tied because logan knows. They are forced to go through the agreement and they won't try anything else. Taylor and Logan know this. It would be like bringing peace to israel which has seen war for over 100 years. This is huge huge stuff. It would be the biggest accomplishment the world has seen. This is ridiculously good writing and the acting is terrific.

    No.

  • April 19, 2010, 8:53 p.m. CST

    The acting is great, granted.

    by CatVutt

But I disagree about the writing. It might resonate politically, but it's completely out of character for the past two years they've spent developing Taylor. It just doesn't jive.

  • April 19, 2010, 8:55 p.m. CST

    I agree with chaseguy17

    by cymbalta4thedevil

President Taylor is Jack's last friend in the government. If she's willing to compromise herself for this peace treaty and he goes rogue looking for justice that's a major game changer for the rest of the season.

    by CatVutt

  • April 19, 2010, 8:59 p.m. CST

I don't think it is out of character for Taylor

    by chaseguy17

She has always been more about the "World View" rather than the US. That's kind of her approach. She has been about improving the US image. She was willing to let americans die because she refused to pull out of Sangala. This year she refused to turn in Hassan because she wanted to keep the peace treaty. Her world image and world peace means everything to her. If you can't see this...I don't know what show you've been watching. This is entirely in character for her.

    Rogue again

    by blogintomystery

But this time feels a bit different. It's more like Jack is going rogue in a Snake Plissken "fuck the world" type way. "Screw world peace, my new snatch got whacked before I even had the chance to break it in."

  • April 19, 2010, 9:03 p.m. CST

    Agree with Chase

    by symphy

Taylor was willing to let 200,000 people die in NYC for the greater good of this peace accord. She's carefully developed an almost incoherent passion over the accord over the past 18 hours (as she's sleep deprived -- I really wish they'd address the sleeplessness like they did in the first two seasons).

  • April 19, 2010, 9:03 p.m. CST

    See, everything you just said...

    by CatVutt

Says exactly the opposite about Taylor to me. Those were valid, moral stances. There is no moral stance in LYING to the woman whose husband was murdered, silently condoning the conspiracy of the Russians, and signing a "peace" treaty that's been forced by blackmail and coercion. It was well played, and well acted. But completely unbelievable. Sorry. We'll have to disagree.

  • April 19, 2010, 9:04 p.m. CST

    Keeps Getting Better

    by Crow3711

I thought that was a really good episode. It finally feels tense, and even though Renee is dead, which sucked, at least all the characters actions in this episode are believable, and exciting. And Jack stealing the helicopter is just awesome. My only kinda negative thought is too many stories are taking that angle of "the truth isn't good enough" liek The Dark Knight and Watchmen. I just feel like that's been used a lot in the last year or two. However, it actually works really well in this situation I think. If I were the President in this situation, I would make the same call I think. The truth isn't good enough in that situation, you have to try and make the peace however you can. Fuck those Russian bastards

  • April 19, 2010, 9:05 p.m. CST

Jack's gonna bring down TWO Presidencies!!

    by Tall_Boy66

First Charles Logan and now Alison Taylor's presidency for moral compromises facilitated simply by being in close proximity to the aforementioned Charles Logan. Keep in mind, last season Taylor sold out her own daughter for buying a hit man to kill Jonas "Mass Murderer" Hodges. I love this show. It's so in the moment and be damned with what came before.

  • April 19, 2010, 9:07 p.m. CST

This is the first time Jack is rogue and wrong

    by chaseguy17

It's more personal for him. He's not doing it for the better good. He knows the better good would be the peace agreement. He was willing to agree with Taylor to not turn in Hassan and let the bomb go off. He saw the bigger good of the peace agreement. Now that Renee has died and the same thing in essence is happening, Jack is going against the entire country for personal reasons. This is the perfect way to end the series i feel. We will likely see Jack starting to kill people. I bet Jack kills Cole. What Taylor is doing is not a bad decision. It's ultimately her call. The russians hands are tied and they won't try anything because they know Logan knows about what they did. They concede. The US wins vs. Russia because the US caught them red handed. If you start arresting people you lose out on the peace agreement. I think many of you fail to see how big a peace agreement is...because you guys don't pay attention to world affairs. This would be like bringing peace to Israel which has seen war for over a hundred years. Arresting Russian officials could start a war with Russia. Russia has nuclear weapons. Taylor is arguably making the right call. Jack agreed with Taylor's sketch call earlier...but now he's letting his personal feelings get the best of him.

  • April 19, 2010, 9:08 p.m. CST

She's just as bad as Logan. That bitch needs to go down hard!

  • April 19, 2010, 9:08 p.m. CST

But there is a big difference between her daughter and world pea

    by Tall_Boy66

Also, the daughter was kind of a bitch anyway. I do buy that Taylor would sell out Jack's quest for justice just so there can finally be peace in the middle east. As someone said above, she is a big picture girl

  • April 19, 2010, 9:10 p.m. CST

    in the old days

    by haywood

In the old days, Jack would have beaten up the two security officers in the elevator, a nice Jack hand to hand fight. Throw out the helicopter. Get back some of that kinetic Jack energy, a good foot chase is worth a boring Helicopter taking off.. and its cheaper to stage also.

  • April 19, 2010, 9:11 p.m. CST

Taylor is not as bad as logan.

    by chaseguy17

I don't see how you guys don't see that Taylor has arguably made the right choice. They caught the Russians red handed and the Russians would never try something like that again. But if you start arresting the big russian politicians you risk war with Russia. Russia has nuclear weapons. You also kill the peace agreement which would bring peace to a country where thousands die each year and they have been fighting for over a hundred years. It would be like the biggest world peace accomplishment in history. Russia is punished because they have to go through the agreement now. They also can be blackmailed for all eternity.

  • April 19, 2010, 9:17 p.m. CST

Shermdawg, do you (or anybody) own a 3d TV?

    by RedBull_Werewolf

  • April 19, 2010, 9:18 p.m. CST

she didn't make a moral choice, she made a political one

    by Tall_Boy66

Which I do buy, because it's interesting to see her compromise like that. Jack doesn't do compromises, unless it can get him to a bigger target. Taylor's bigger target is world peace, Jack's bigger target is finding out who was behind the attacks and justice for Freckles. But Taylor is motivated by politics, not morality. The other one is Jack's department. Yes, she was acting out of moral authority during the Sangala crisis, but it was going towards a peaceful ending, which would be politically motivated. She would have made a difference acting in Sangala, on a worldwide scale. She is making a difference signing this peace treaty, on a worldwide scale. Rene simply doesn't matter on that level, but it's not a correct moral choice.

  • April 19, 2010, 9:18 p.m. CST

Mikhail Novakovich = Mike Novick's Russian Cousin

    by mdf2

Nothing to do with the overarching plot, but I find the similarities in name -- the first is a direct translation, after all -- not to mention their positions, Mike being the right hand of the Pres for so many years oddly funny. And after Charles Logan's Julius Caesar quote, I think someone should take the time to quote President Taylor a little Christopher Marlowe or Goethe, so she can be reminded of Faust...or possibly Neville Chamberlain.

    It started out bad...

    by lock67ca

..but it's turned into one of the best seasons in the last few episodes. I said a few weeks ago that they were probably getting all the weaker episodes out of the way at the start of the season (rather than having it drag in the middle, as it usually does). Looks like that's exactly what happened. Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree. Here's hoping for a strong finish.

    by L.H.Puttgrass

And now they will all have to deal with Jack's somewhat tired expression of slight discomfort and emotional apathy. <p> I'm hoping for many people tell Jack exactly what he doesn't want to hear so that he completely wigs out and begins taking out people just because they 'look' like they might be full of shit!! <p> Think about it Jack! Only a few hours ago you were with your family, getting ready to do things you've been waiting to do for years! A normal life with the ones you love. <p> And those fucks have screwed that over for you yet again! <p> I say, "Cry, HAVOC! and let slip the dogs of war, that this foul deed shall smell above the earth with carrion men, groaning for burial." <p> After all, Jack's just this guy with a need to share his feelings... 24 has consistently been fun, escapist entertainment from the get-go. There has been episodes here and there that haven't been pure gold, but I think all should be forgiven from the amount of thrills and excitement this show has given us. I have to agree that this season hasn't started off that good, but it got consistently better, and I'm very confident it will end on a high note. I find it amazing that so many so-called fans of the show have nothing better to do than pick this show apart and say that they've given up on it. Yet these same people are still watching it, then have nothing better to do then come on here and whine about it. I, for one, will be saddened by the end of such a brilliant TV show (this and Lost-- that week in May will be a sad week for television indeed). There, I said my peace, now go ahead and tell me how wrong I am. Nothing anyone will say will change my love for 24!

Except for some of the later half stuff with kim and terri the first season was actually a really smart show that seemed like it was grounded in some kind of reality. Even with that dumb subplot shit in the second half it blows away every other season. You can't realistically call this show brilliant for anything it's done after season 3 and that's being generous. I guess your just more easily entertained, cause it's the same shit every year. How is that supposed to work on a show that has become all about exciting moments and cliffhangers strung along with atrocious writing. If they wanted to become a big dumb action show the least they could have done was not repeat themselves over and over.

not a bad season finale. maybe would have liked a little more comeuppance for the Tobins or at least a mention of how much money was recovered. would hate to see this show go. if it were to continue, would kinda like to see the flash forwards go. But doesn't sound like it'll be back.

    by genesis495

Holy shit, that was an awesome finale. Glenn Close needs her third emmy for Patty Hughes, prior to this episode I did not want the series to end, but that was the perfect ending. Maybe this will just be an arc, but damn if it doesn't get renewal it will be ok cause they ended on a really high note.

  • April 19, 2010, 10:36 p.m. CST

And how does Season 3 qualify as brilliant anyway?

    by Tall_Boy66

you got Jack making a run for the border with some of the biggest lame bad guys all season, Nina Meyers setting off a fucking CTU-destroying virus FROM HER GODDAMN CELL PHONE! And season 3 opening with with that stoner blondie kid that means NOTHING to the overall plot of the show at all. If you want to nitpick this show to death about being unrealistic, here's a hint: It. Happens. Every. Single. Fucking. Season. People who say the show was only valid in Seasons 1-3 are just trying to show off how 'leet they are as fans. "See! I wuz watching it b4 they started doing it in January onwards in Season 4 when it got popular and started to SUCK!" Poseurs.

    by CatVutt

It was howlingly bad most of the season, but nailed most of the final third with Gael's brutal end, as well as Chappelle's, and the untoppable glance at the axe-on-the-wall. Pretty iconic stuff there. But yeah, the first 2/3rds was all over the place.

Taylor is not as bad as logan, chaseguy17?!?!?!

    by The Bicycle Sharer

You don't see how we don't see that Taylor has arguably made the right choice? Well, let me explain it to you:<p>1) The US just had to BLACKMAIL the Russians into backing this deal. Not really the start of a beautiful friendship there, is it?<p>2) What the US blackmailed the Russians with was their complicity in the attempted NUCLEAR BOMBING OF NY CITY!!!<p>3) Charles Logan backed this whole thing. You remember the disgraced FELON, right? Not really the guy to trust for sacrificing some for the greater good.<p>4) You say "they caught the Russians red-handed and the Russians would never try something like that again?" Really? In what world? The magical world of idiot? Why wouldn't they? I mean, shit, they ALMOST got away with it this time and nobody's gonna know about it. In fact, why not do it again and, if they get caught, just point out that Allison Taylor and the US government KNEW that the Russians TRIED TO KILL AMERICANS IN NEW YORK AND COVERED IT UP!!!<p>5) Ever heard of the notion that "it's not the crime; it's the cover-up?"<p>6) Is it really your firm belief that a peace treaty negotiated by blackmailing one of the participants based on their clandestine plot to blow up NY with a dirty bomb and their assassination of a federal agent is an "agreement which would bring peace to a country where thousands die each year and they have been fighting for over a hundred years?" You sound like the kind of guy who bases a marriage on serial infidelity at a T.J. donkey show.<p>7) Russia is punished because they have to go through the agreement now?!?!? LOL! Whew! I bet they're really sweating balls on the horrible implications of backing a peace treaty. That certainly seems like a fitting punishment for trying dirty bomb NY and assassinating a federal officer. What do you suggest as punishment had they succeeded - a thirty-minute time out and no dessert?<p>8) Also, "they can be blackmailed for all eternity?" The Russians? How so? Do what we say or we'll reveal that you were behind that dirty bomb plot? And how do you know this, US? How LONG have you known this, US? And you covered this up as well as the assassination of a federal agent, US? Well, yes, you caught us - but, of course, our plan didn't work. But your cover-up of what we did sure did! How you feel 'bout that?<p>8) Exactly how many assassinated Americans do we cover up for a CLAIMED magical peace? One? Ten? A hundred? A thousand? What about if the dirty bomb had gone off - killed ten thousand in NY? What about if we THEN found out that the Russians were behind it - is it then okay to cover up and blackmail for "Middle East peace?"<p>A "peace" built on LIES and INJUSTICE, blackmail and cover-up, is no peace at all. But I got a feeling that ol' Taylor's gonna be learning that real soon (and searching for some penicillin for that burning case of the "Logans" she picked up).

I didn't say season 3 was brilliant. I said you couldn't call anything after season 3 brilliant. It was the last season with any originality to it for sure, which they tossed out half way in. I almost threw in a except for parts of season 5 maybe disclaimer in there but then again, season 4 did come before 5, so it was all starting to wear a little thin by then. Season 5 was basically Season 2 2: Port of Call White House anyway. And sorry but terri's amnesia and kim's cougar are nothing compared to the shit they pull nowadays. People just let them get away with it because they throw some gunfire every episode. That cougar shit was way overblown anyway and only takes up something like a minute out of that whole season.

The two problems with Taylor's actions...

    by Gislef_crow

    1) She's gambling that word never never never gets out. C'mon. Even in real-life, how unlikely is that? Even if a rumor of what happened got out, and a subsequent press investigation, it'd bring down her Presidency. And if Dalia is told enough to believe, Taylor can kiss that peace treaty goodbye no matter how much will or won't stand up in court.<p> 2) C'mon, Taylor thinks she can really give Jack an order like this and expect him to obey. He shot his own boss in the head.<p> And has anybody noticed that Cherry Jones sounds just like Bonita Friedericy on Chuck? Close your eyes and you'd swear it was the same actress.

  • April 20, 2010, 12:27 a.m. CST

    Amnesia unforgivable any season

    by Tall_Boy66

I'm sorry, but not a single twist in the entire run of 24 has brought as much pain and annoyance as Terri getting amnesia which is just a completely hack lame plot in almost anything (Memento excluded). Shit, even Dana Walsh's pointless hillbilly histrionics this year at least had a semblance of action thrown in, moreso than you can say anything that came out of Terri's "I can't remember so I'm gonna sit here and chat" plotline. I thought Season 5 was very distinctively different from Season 2 if only that they had a real good sense of pace by that point (Jack putting out fires every hour while the main plot progresses), and the Logan reveal is the Uber-Mole twist that's never been topped, and the Logan vs. Jack staredown in the last episode beats out just about any chat Jack had with a bad guy in Season 2. Season 2 is great, I mentally toss back and forth between that and S7 as the silver position (Season 1 gets the bronze, 4th place) but Season 5 was when the show really fired on all cylinders.

  • April 20, 2010, 12:35 a.m. CST

'sides, NOTHING Kim does in S2 works as drama

    by Tall_Boy66

Out of 24 goddamn episodes, Kim has exactly two good moments: her chat with Jack before he supposedly dumps the nuke, and when she shoots bad dad in the chest. That's it. Every single damn moment with her, as much as Cuthbert was in her jaw-droppingly hot prime, is like nails on a chalkboard. The only way to tolerate Kim's stuff in Season 2 is to view it as a very dark comedy. The guy loses his fuckin leg fer crissakes, just because he's hanging out with Kim! In Season 5, there isn't a single running plot, let alone 24 episodes worth, that irritates anywhere near the frequency that every single goddamn moment Kim has in Season 2. It's not just the cougar in Season 2 with Kim, the cougar is representative of EVERYTHING that is wrong with Kim's plot in Season 2. Season 5? No bullshit, no mess, no fuss. Great stuff.

Ya, I'd have to rewatch it again, but Season 5 was the peak

    by bullet3

Everything just clicked. It had awesome action, the pace was consistently moving, the bad guys were great (robocop and the president of the US). It was the only season that never fell into a slump about 2/3rds of the way through which every other season fell into.

    by liesandpicturesofalsolies

Okay I am aware this will be as popular as Hitler erotic fan fiction and I am also aware that the writers have admitted they were just making up terrible filler.<br><br>THAT SAID it gave Jack Bauer stakes that haven't existed in the most recent seasons of 24. Sure, you rolled your eyes when Kim got caught in a beartrap but when Jack Bauer was desperately trying to fix things you felt it more because the situation had consequences for his loved ones. It was better than "If there is a bomb and I am Jack Bauer then I, Jack Bauer, must stop that bomb." that was his whole character for later seasons. That doesn't make the Kim stuff well-written, but it was good for Jack.

  • April 20, 2010, 7:52 a.m. CST

I agree with chaseguy17 ... Bicycle Sharer is a douche!

    by ZaphodBB

Last night's 24 really presented the "lesser of 2 evils" scenario well. Yes, President Taylor did make a morally unbalanced decision ... but ... it WAS for a greater good. Chaseguy sees that and recognizes the brilliant writing for what it is. Bicycle Sharer is merely preaching from the moral high ground. But sometimes making the BIG DECISIONS results in "grey area" moral thinking. In this case, YES, it's wrong that Dalia won't be told the truth ...and YES, it's wrong that the Russians won't be accosted for their involvement ... BUT ... with the peace treaty in order and regional stability achieved, isn't THAT a greater good?! I think it realistically depicted the complexities of making a "good" and "right" decision at the top level very well. There often isn't a WIN-WIN scenario for all. I don't think that Taylor is Logan's bitch at all. I think she took the time to hear Logan's words (slimey as he is) and evaluated the situation on her own (excellently acted BTW). One thing can definitely be said about last night's episode ... it promotes discussion!

  • April 20, 2010, 8:21 a.m. CST

    Wow.

    by BizarroJerry

Who would've thought that this late in the series, and this close to the end of it's last season, after already being canceled, that we would've had something worth sparking a political vs moral debate? Granted, the problem with doing this is it seems unlikely that this could be kept a secret. And Taylor would be finished if anyone learned that she covered up what the Russians did. You could argue on some level that she made the right call but, how many middle east peace treaties have turned out to be basically meaningless?<p>Personally, I think you could consider this development a indictment not of Obama or Democrats, but of presidents in general. Clinton, Bush, Obama. It is so often mentioned that presidents are concerned about what their legacy will be, almost to the point of vanity. Logan's argument along those lines is completely honest, as he admits he's doing this to salvage some half-assed legacy. As a fellow president, he played into Taylor's similar feelings.

    Presidential legacies

    by ZaphodBB

Bizarro brought up a good point about President's ultimately thinking about their legacy. In this case, I think a bit of that comes into play ... but not from a selfish point-of-view. I think, in the end, President Taylor will end up stepping down as President as an acknowledgement of what she did to make peace possible. In her case, it's not all about furthering her political career ... it's about leaving something greater than herself in her departing wake.

I have to say, that was a brilliant episode. After last week's I was seriously ready to give up on Season 8 altogether. But somehow, maybe through sheer law of averages alone, they've managed to put out the first truly classic episode in Season 8. Too many great bits to mention, but the 'angel and devil' argument with Logan and Shawshank over Taylor's soul in the White House was the standout :) Hope they keep this building up to the finale - it won't save Season 8 as a whole, but at least it'll go some way to giving 24 the send-off it deserves.

And let me guess... the "24" movie will be set in Europe (that we know) and will be all about Jack evading the US and Russian agents out to get him for what he does in the next few hours. Logan vs. Nixon

    by Nem_Wan

When Logan flipped out at the Secret Service agent who gave him the skunk eye, I recalled that Richard Nixon, 11 years after his resignation, and a year after a law was passed allowing him to do so, refused further Secret Service protection that he was entitled to for life, and hired private security. Nixon said he wanted to save taxpayers' money.

    SS agent

Nem_Wan> I was actually looking to comment on that scene too, and looking if anybody else caught it? Seems like that was the opening for Agent Pierce to show up!<br><br> Logan: "What the hell is HE doing here?!?!" Jason Pillar: "What? You told me to get rid of that guard, Agent Pierce was the only guy off duty in NY with nothing else to do. Plus, he's the only dude to be in this dang show every season other than your buddy Jack Bauer! It's not like he'll play an important role or anything Charlie, take it easy. He won't be on-hand during a critical situation, just because fans love it and always want more Aaron Pierce, ok?"
