Up-and-comer Sam Claflin has been cast in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Disney announced today that a young man by the name of Sam Claflin has been cast in the "key role of Philip, a youthful missionary," in the next adventure of one Captain Jack Sparrow. The flick begins shooting this summer and we already know Johnny Depp will be facing off against Ian McShane's BLACKBEARD (perfect casting, by the way) and that French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey will be playing some kind of mermaid. Unfortunately, Gore Verbinski isn't back in the director's chair, but they got CHICAGO's Rob Marshall. Marshall has an undeniable visual style that could mesh well with this universe, I think. I'm not sure how central Claflin will be, but the scuttlebutt is that he's the Orlando Bloom of this run of Pirates films. Here's what the kid looks like:

For all the crap the sequels got, I love the world of this series and I worship Depp's insane central performance. Yay for big budget high seas fantasy adventure! -Quint quint@aintitcool.com Follow Me On Twitter
