Emile Hirsch joins up with alien invasion thriller THE DARKEST HOUR!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm a big fan of young Emile Hirsch. There's an easy charm to him on screen, I feel, a certain likability that not a whole lot of actors of his generation have. I also like his film choices... from the critically lauded INTO THE WILD to the critically hated (but fuck it, I still love it) SPEED RACER he seems to pick projects that he has a genuine interest in, not trying to follow some formula-for-success career path. Case in point, he's taking on a flick that isn't a giant budget effects spectacular and not, presumably, Oscar-bait. The film in question is called THE DARKEST HOUR and is produced by NIGHTWATCH/WANTED's Timur Bekmambetov and directed by Chris Gorak, who saw some heat after his indie thriller RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR hit the fest circuit. According to Variety's Tatiana Siegel Emile Hirsch has signed onto the flick, which centers on a group of kids fighting for survival in post-alien invasion Russia. I would guess he's one of the "kids" in that description, although I don't know if I'd use "kid" to describe Hirsch. Summit has the $40 million budgeted flick in the US and so they continue to spend their Twilight money on some really interesting properties.
