Must-Watch Viral! Patrick Jean Rains 8-Bit Destruction Down On New York City In His Brilliant Short Film "Pixels"!
Beaks here...
I'm going to second Edgar Wright and highly recommend that you take two minutes out of your busy, bustlin' day to watch Patrick Jean's "Pixels", a very clever short film that gives you a vivid sense of what it might look like if Space Invaders, Tetris blocks, Donkey Kong and other classic gaming icons of our youth decided to fuck up New York City. That's it. That's the whole concept. "La Jetée," this is not. But it's an enormous amount of fun provided you're not too disturbed by the improbable sight of 8-bit invaders wiping out civilization.
Check it out...

In the "Viral Videos I've Seen Today" category, The Standing Cat is pretty awesome, too.

That's got just the sort of surrealism that a dream should have. Twisted internal logic, that can change from one minute to the next.
-
Yeah I said it.
-
WOW!
-
I give him two days before he has a contract offer from Pixar or DreamWorks.
-
It brings me back to my childhood... and wreaks mayhem on NYC. Awesome!
-
What's the name of the upcoming pixel themed PS3 game? This reminds me of that.
-
Well that just made my day, thanks for posting!
-
That was some flawless goodness right there.
I'm stuffed with nostalgia. -
Pretty cool indeed...
-
Most impressive.
-
All it needed was Q-Bert.

Has more imagination than half of Hollywood thrown together. Imagine if one of the big boys in Holly land would have taken this project.. he would have redesigned all the icons to "make it work for screen" make them all nice and dark, with lots of detail, metal claws, complex forms. Thanks to home CGI programs in a couple of years Hollywood will get a run for their money, when more garage home creators, make their own films.

and River Raid. Anyone else remember River Raid?

Could've used the Rampage monsters, but otherwise awesome.

Give the man a budget to direct this into a movie.it will be phenomenal.
-
Definitely put a smile on my face.

By Carl Erik Rinsch, the guy who was being eyed for the Alien Prequel before Ridley took over? Its a really cool short film with some shades of Half Life 2 and is just really geeky cool. Has some nice f/x too. Check it out, it's on Joblo and other places I'd guess.
-
Really cool. Nice job.
-
See my name...
-
Love it!
-
Is this the first anyone's heard of Patrick Jean or is he a known figure already?
-
You're right, but I don't think the purpose of this was a groundbreaking narrative, it's about the effects and the filmmaking.

not PIXELS.
-
that must have taken a bunch of quarters.
-
...Hollywood suits will soon option it and fuck it up royally by attaching Michael Bay to it.
-
Well, let's all watch in silence as he slowly escalates the ladder and is hired by Disney to reboot a classic or something.
-
Am I in the twilight zone?
-
Wow. That was a kick in the pants. Thanks for making my day happy
-
Will share with friends.
-

Somebody HAS to bring up FUTURAMA every fuckin' time...

...Anyone does anything referencing an 8-bit game, anywhere.
Watched the show, chuckled, moved on. -
really cool piece of work.
-
It's been awhile. I liked it.
-
But--damn that was cool!
-
JayLenoTookMyJob mentions above that this will get optioned by Michael Bay and ruined, but his fingerprints are already all over it. In the end of the short, isn’t the earth transformed into the Allspark?
-
with Video Man.
-
That is a work of art. It would be nice to see this up on a big screen.
-
Now there's a memory. Loved the sound of the ball bearing or whatever it was hitting something in the inside of the console when he fell. But I literally rules GORF, turning the game over.. over and over. I was nearly autistic in the way I played it, with odd little rhythmic patterns and positions I'd have to stand in, or I'd lose the game. Those were the days. These days are better though.
-
wouldn't a game that looked exactly like that be incredible?
-
Sorry to nitpick, but I didn't get enough of a videogame vibe to enjoy it.
The tetris stuff was the highlight, but it was not as cool as it should have been.
Awesome concept, "meh" execution. -
glad you noticed it too.damn now allow me to shed a bit of nostalgia tears.snif snif.
