FRIGHT NIGHT Remake Finds Its Charley Brewster! You're So Cool, Yelchin!

Beaks here...

Looks like the new Pavel Chekov is the new Charley Brewster. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, Anton Yelchin is in negotiations to take the Sir William Ragsdale role in DreamWorks' remake of Tom Holland's 1985 horror-comedy classic FRIGHT NIGHT. Yelchin will play the suspicious young man who's convinced his new next door neighbor is a vampire. There's no word yet on who's playing suave bloodsucker Jerry Dandrige, and I wish director Craig Gillespie luck on finding someone half as iconic as Chris Sarandon (ditto replacing Roddy McDowell as Peter Vincent). I've heard some odd rumors regarding Marti Noxon's screenplay, but I still trust that the veteran TV writer with credits on MAD MEN and BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER will do right by Holland's original. Casting Yelchin is an encouraging development, and I've no problem with Gillespie as director (my issues with LARS AND THE REAL GIRL were completely script-related). I just hope they strike the right tone. Again, good luck with that. Somewhat related, I really wish Brad Fiedel would come out of retirement.
