I really have a serious jones for IRON MAN 2!

Published at:  Apr 06, 2010 4:52:51 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a serious need to see IRON MAN 2 quickly. Everything just keeps looking cool and I'm about done at looking at anything till I see the whole thing. And still, they have shown so very little thus far. As it should be. Oh sure - we're not at like INCEPTION levels of "what is this?" - but we really do know so very little at this point. Right? Check out these two international tv spots that showed up today:

    Too Bad...

    by makneil

Peter Cushing died. From Bob Layton's run on Iron Man it appeared that he was the inspiration for Justin Hammer, just as Samuel Jackson is for the current (Ultimates) version of Nick Fury.

I would have liked to see the dynamic between the old school industrialist vs. the the new school brash, showy style of Tony Stark.

That being said, that's not to rain on Sam Rockwell's parade. He's a good actor, though I would have cast older for The Hammer.

By the way, I am predicting that this film will lead into a third Iron Man that covers the Armor Wars Saga of the comic (as well as touching upon his alcoholism) because, notice that in the trailers everyone–from Whiplash to I assume Hammer's armored soldiers–has technology based upon the Arc reactor from Tony Stark.

Time the reign it back in!

  • I think I saw Iron Man three or four times in the cinema, before I ********** a good copy, then bought it on DVD when it came out. I've watched it maybe 30 times in total. It's my favourite of the Marvel film properties, so I have HIGH expectations for this.

I know I'm one of the few, but I really can't seem to muster any good vibes from everything I've seen and heard about Iron Man 2. That could be nothing, as I thought the first movie was going to be lame. Iron Man 1, for me, was a fun movie in spite of being another god damned comic book adaptation. The vibe I get from Iron Man 2 is similar to Ganymede3001's "looks like Fantastic Four" sentiments. We'll see though... I hope it's good. Maybe I'm just exhausted from the amount of stupid super-hero movies. Fucking boring after awhile, guys.

    Loved Iron Man, but . . .

    by popmeow

. . . I'm having some very serious reservations about this one. A lot of it stems from an interview with Jeff Bridges talking about how things were being rewritten and developed (on the first film), oftentimes, the day of the shoot. I realize that happens on film shoots, but the way he said it, made it seems like it was an everyday occurrence. Also, while I love me some Scarlet, I can't help but seeing Jessica Alba's Sue Storm in the brief clips we've seen so far - the hair . . . seriously? And I'm sorry, but Downey is how old? The "love interest" between them is borderline creepy. In the first film, Downey seemed to approach the material with a certain amount of humility (he kinda needed a hit) and reservation. In this one, I'm seeing an exaggeration to the character. Then again, maybe that's the character's alcoholism coming through (hopefully). I really do hope it's even better than the first one - that it's another Spiderman 2. Haven't seen it yet in any of the clips though.

    by thecheesegrommit

What the F@ck do you visit this site for? THERE CAN NEVER BE TOO MANY SUPER HERO MOVIES! All movies should have a super hero in them! "Nightmare on Elm" should have a super hero in it to kick Freddy's ass, "Inception" should have a super hero in it, "The Expendables" should have Captain America in it!!! I am here by ruling that the phrase "There are too many super hero movies" forbidden and punishable by extreme measures. In addition those who think this looks like FF are retarded (That's right Palin, I said Retarded!). That is all.

    by laserpants

And we have a fantastic relationship that keeps getting better. I love her and she loves me. Face it, girls like older guys. All you teenagers and 20 somethings are going to be driving yourself nuts trying to get the hottest chicks, and that's cool, but eventually, when you're older and more financially secure, you can pretty much take whomever you want with very little effort. At least, that was my experience. I always did reasonably well with women, but it always seemed like they were in control. Once I crossed the Line Of 30, though? the script flipped almost completely. I got more tail in one year as a 30 something, then I did in 5 as a 20 something. Now I'm in a committed relationship with a much younger woman and am happy as hell. Bottom line: All you moralists busting on May-December romances can suck it.

    by caprica

As a non-reader of the comic books, my question is this--if, as in the films, apparently all you have to do to fight Iron Man as an equal is to build a suit, what makes Iron Man a super hero? Looking at the first two films, it seems that its pretty damn easy to challenge him.

Tony Stark is a genius engineer who's intellect is pretty much unparalleled . His suits are always better than everyone else's and all the other suits are based on his designs anyway. So they are knockoffs or imitations and Tony can always one up them. It's his mind that makes him special.

First of all who said anything about May-December romances? And secondly the difference between you and others who date younger women, (my GF is 6 years younger) is that guys date younger women but women dont often date younger men and there is a reason for this. That's why the kick-ass kids relationship and impending marriage and child birth seem off. He's 19 and he's marrying a woman who is over 40 and they are having a kid as he is on the cusp of stardom. Doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me.

    by bouncy x

i dont get people who say or think that. you never hear anyone say there's too many horror movies or too many comedies or too many dramas or too many romantic comedies or too many sci-fi movies or too many action movies etc... there's many genres and they should all consistently have new movies coming. my favorite though is the "too many CGI animated movies" complaint. nobody ever complained when there was constant cel animated movies so why is it suddenly a problem that there's CGI ones? but i'm asking these sorta questions here is sorta retarded considering where i am so let's just pretend they're rhetorical.

    MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE

    by jonoftheshred

Maximum Overdrive is the ONLY movie that should EVER get an entirely AC/DC soundtrack. AC/DC doing the soundtrack for this makes it seem childish, for some reason. And believe me, I dig AC/DC, but they don't exactly compliment the mood of this film that well.

For example, Manowar doing the entire soundtrack for a Conan the Barbarian reboot would fit, it'd be amazing. Or Children of Bodom doing the music for an old school 80's zombie movie would work. But the ONLY MOVIE AC/DC should be the exclusive soundtrack is Maximum Overdrive, and its reboot / remake which'll no doubt be announced and go into immediate production after some executive reads this exact comment I'm posting.

I guess they're people out there that like that "death metal" screeching, but it's not my cup of tea. I still like the thought of AC/DC doing the soundtrack. It's the beginning of Tony Stark's fall from grace, and in the third movie, he'll hit bottom. He is ARROGANT, NARCISSISTIC, and COMPULSIVE! That's what his ?enemy? Whiplash was telling him, almost in a friendly way. And of course, Tony doesn't listen.

I Tht Someone Said Something Negative Abt Older Men w/ Younger W

    by laserpants

I guess I misread it. Either way, damn, what 19 year old guy would marry a 40 year old woman?? A 19 year old girl marrying a 40 year old man I understand, but the other way around makes no sense. The reasons why younger women are attracted to older men is simple -- older men tend to be more financially secure, confident, mature, and caring about their mates. Young guys are basically like retarded, insecure puppies with no money who only understand their own pleasure. In addition, MOST women have raging father complexes. It's really kind of astounding and once you figure out the key to it all, you'll be amazed.Similarly, the reasons why older men are attracted to younger women is even simpler -- they're hot, everything is tight and new, and they usually play a somewhat more submissive role. In addition, in terms of genetics; instinct drives older men to seek younger women because they are more likely to give birth to healthy babies. Not that I consciously want this as the LAST thing on Earth I want is to make the tragic, life-destroying mistake of having kids; that's why god invented birth control and abortion.

    Zombieflicker & Bouncy X

    by jonoftheshred

Bodom are certainly an acquired taste, and having a very diverse taste in music I can deal with the singing, especially since Alexi (the vocalist) is ripping all those crazy guitar solos too. And believe me, I much prefer vocalists who can belt it out to 'screaming/growling' any day. Did you look up Manowar? Eric Adams is one of the more talented, versatile voices of heavy metal, and I'd go as far as saying the 'ultimate metal singer.' Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden is another example: awesome set of pipes. DIO, Geoff Tate, Steve Grimmet, etc. etc.

And I wouldn't call Bodom death metal. More a mix of power metal and melodic black metal. What does Bodom sound closer to? Emperor, Immortal, and Finntroll or Death, Cannibal Corpse, and Nile?

Bouncy X, this is what I mean. AC/DC was PERFECT for Maximum Overdrive. The name AC/DC makes it even better; its like a pun of the entire movie, seeing as how machines are taking over.

In Iron Man 2, its just a greatest hits. We've all heard all these songs a thousand times in a thousand different movies, its gonna make the thing drip with cheese, moreso than the movie needs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm intrigued to see it irregardless of the overplayed soundtrack, but its gonna take a lot away from the movie. A film score is fall more important to a movie than people seem to think.

Anyone read all the horrible reviews of Survival of the Dead? They all failed to mention the main culprit that took all atmosphere and tension away from the movie: the Danny Elfman score. The setting, story, and characters were enjoyable enough in that one, as far as I'm concerned. But the music made the whole movie feel like a comedy. It took me out of the movie even more than the CGI zombie kills.

And I'm kinda worried the film score will have a very similar effect on this. Raise your hand if you're NOT gonna cringe when "Back in Black" starts playing and Samuel L Jackson is back on screen and pissed?

I've seen it, and coming from someone that would take a bullet for George Romero, that movie was just a tad below par. I didn't mind the music at all, nor should I say it was neither a hindrance or add anything special to it. The plot of the "family feud" with the O’Doul’s and the McLovin’s or what ever they were called was completely over the top and dated. I'm no huge fan of "Land", but felt a sequel with the crew of Dead Reckoning traveling to Northern Canada would have been interesting. Plus Asia Argento is smoking hot. Oh yeah… add Geoff Tate’s voice to Bodom, and then were talking some kick ass music!

    by dennismm

My ex and I were 34 and 46, respectively, when we got together, and we stayed together for ten years. We broke up for reasons not related to any of the "virtues" of younger women discussed here. After the split I hooked up, briefly, with a 11-years-younger woman, mid-20s. She and I couldn't talk about anything but our personal experiences. We had no shared cultural touchstones. We couldn't RELATE. Being able to talk, to communicate, is what kept my marriage alive during even the difficult times. For that reason, I never could have had a lasting relationship with the young woman.
Sex is great, hot bodies are fine, but talking to someone on a level field is better than those things.

Look I am sure the movie will be great. But those two trailers suck. The first one has no intensity. Its like "oh Iron man is cool and fun". What the fuck is that? Is this a kids movie? And the song is totally off..Iron man the rock and roller? the second is even worse. "New suit, new team, new adventure?" what the hell is that? Is this a kids movie or a comedy? It should be more like "New enemy. New problems. Same Tony" or something, if they are going for the "light" tone.

It didn't sound to me like she had one. Of course, that could be her cover, or maybe I just missed it...she didn't say much.

    Those trailers are awful.

    by royston lodge

Good thing I saw the good trailers already, so I still want to see the movie.
If I saw these trailers first, I woulda been pretty pissed off at Favreau for making a shitty movie.
Which just proves that trailers have far too much power over my little brain, I suppose...

My entire post is based upon what I've read about the first film and the IM2 trailer. From those trailers, I'm just not seeing any chemistry between the two. It's liking watching Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt in The Mexican. Two great actors, but their onscreen romance was completely unbelievable. That's all I'm saying. Also, despite what appears to be an over-the-top performance by Downey, he's still bringing more nuance to the character than what I'm seeing from Scarlet. Granted, the trailers aren't giving us a lot to go on, but from the looks of it, ScarJo is being out-classed and out-acted by Downey. But again . . . that's what I'm seeing in the trailer and it's what I'll be watching for when I see the movie. Relax. Breathe.

    1) Fuck you, you judgmental, moralizing prude.
    2) I love my girlfriend for far more than just her physical form, and she knows this very well. We have a very open, honest, nurturing relationship. Further, she is incredibly intelligent, creative, and ambitious; I think a genius-in-the-making (but maybe I'm biased). Further, not being a prude as you seem to be, I'm very forthcoming to her about how hot and tight I think she is, and she loves it. I guess you didn't have such an honest relationship with your wife? Hence the divorce?3)Oh, and we also having a running joke that I'm the daddy in the relationship and she loves that/is aware of it too. We think it's funny! And we're happy as clams. Imagine that? An open, honest relationship that isn't afraid to make fun and have fun. Again, I'm assuming this same level of openness didn't occur with your ex-wife? Am I right or am I right?
    4) See #1.

    It's in 3D right?

    by lonestaricon

If this is in the same crappy wannabe 3D as Crash of the Blurry Titians, then hell hath frozen over. Sorry for the feigned outrage, but I am still more than a little pissed about that missed opportunity. Ironman looks Favreau-liciious. Yeah, I'm effing hyphenating the director's name into a Destiny's Child smash single - so what?! This movie is already so money. God help me stop with this rambling. I think the pollen explosion in Austin is twisting my mind. Cough! Hack! Sniffle. Grunt.

    Can not fucking wait.

Just in case it hasn't been mentioned for the utter fucktards among you, the second trailer is a kiddy one...you know....for KIDS.

I hope this brings in more cash then Emo...er Dark Knight....

And just for the record, TDK is not so much deeper or more realistic then Ironman, just look at the Deus Ex Machina machine from TDK, It can trace phone calls and give Batman "Dardevil vision"!

...I'm psyched for Chris Evans kicking Hugo Weaving's Nazi ass next year!

Now, that said, I AM excited for Iron Man 2. The first film was fantastic fun, and I hope the sequel explores the possibilities of a man in armor a LOT more. As in, MORE ROBO ACTION!

    Curious, havehope....

    by nightarrows

What movies have you seen in the past year, contextually similar to Iron Man/Iron Man 2, that WERE worth the price of admission? Just curious... The first Iron Man was a nice surprise. Great for the most part, excluding the terrible ending with Stain being able to use his Iron suit within SECONDS of getting into it, versus Tony and his path of discovery with his suit(s), you know, the fucking point of the film. And anyone who bags on the TDK, who is a fan of comic movies, should really be kicked in the fucking balls. Pearls before swine...

dude, relax. All I said was you 'sound' like a pervy, sexist douchebag. Just going by what you originally posted. You provided a bit more detail, so fine. But forgive me for jumping to conclusions, when 'hot and tight' was the only thing you initially mentioned. I was just calling you to task for your broad generalizations based on sexist stereotypes and somewhat pedophilic language. I'm anything but a prude - I just have a problem with men who make these assumptions about women and their 'submissiveness.' And that's the least of the rampant sexism on this site. I will refrain from returning your 'fuck you' in response to your assumption about my divorce. Not that it's any of your business, but it was because of our honesty that we decided to call it quits after 10 years and that we weren't really meant to be together in the way we had been. Our relationship couldn't have been more open. And because of that we're still good friends and co-parenting - we're just not married anymore. And my relationship now couldn't be better. Like Charlie said on Lost last night, 'mind-blowing, consciousness-changing love.' But if she ever called me the 'daddy' in the relationship, I'd be a bit freaked out. I'm glad you're happy with such a situation. Seems a little imbalanced and a bit sick to me, but to each his own. Now, moving on...

Are ppl really bitching about Iron Man?

    by huey_freemans_afro

It was one of the only comic book movies NOT horribly screwed up by Hollywood. The sequel looks promising. I don't trust Captain America, Thor, Avengers etc to not be complete crap.

And who cares if Whiplash is a weak minor villian? They're obviously playing him up to be dangerous within his own context. You need minor villians like that.

"when you're older and more financially secure, you can pretty much take whomever you want with very little effort."

"I got more tail in one year as a 30 something, then I did in 5 as a 20 something."

"MOST women have raging father complexes. It's really kind of astounding and once you figure out the key to it all, you'll be amazed."

"Similarly, the reasons why older men are attracted to younger women is even simpler -- they're hot, everything is tight and new, and they usually play a somewhat more submissive role."

"in terms of genetics; instinct drives older men to seek younger women because they are more likely to give birth to healthy babies."

"Not that I consciously want this as the LAST thing on Earth I want is to make the tragic, life-destroying mistake of having kids"

"I'm the daddy in the relationship and she loves that/is aware of it too. We think it's funny!"

    Wow, dude. Just wow.

Knock yourself out. I truly don't care. But you may want to look into whether or not your girlfriend has a TB handle and digs Iron Man.

    by watch_the_world_burn

Nerds talking about imaginary wives or girlfriends on an anonymous talkback. Either you're truthful (making you a crass braggart intent on impressing people who'll never know you) or you're lying (making you sad, lonely, and insecure). Personally, I don't believe any of you - but then that's the inherent problem discussing this sort of thing on the internet, isn't it? Which is why I refrain from discussing my personal life and stick to talking about movies.
I was very impressed with the first Iron Man - a blockbuster type film from a group relatively untested in that regard, who pulled off a remarkable job. Looking forward to the second film.
