LORD OF THE RINGS casting: Regarding Eowyn, Galadriel and others...
Alright, I've been hearing from everyone from the original author of the letter to Deluca on over to RingBearer.Org to TheOneRing.Net to TheOneRing.Com about Uma Thurman is being considered for Eowyn and that Cate Blanchett is up for Galadriel... and in addition some stuff about Terrence Stamp being up for Grima Wormtongue.
So as usual, I put the question through my usual bullshit detector within the production of LORD OF THE RINGS, and found out the following. While the production would LOVE to have Uma as Eowyn and Cate as Galadriel... that has not yet come to pass. They are being talked to. They are not yet signed. As for the rumor of Terrence Stamp... it is false, and I have yet to have any confirmation on any actor in that role. So... we'll have to wait and see what happens later on. So... Basically you can consider that Cate and Uma are in discussions... and you can either hope that they WILL get the part or hope that they WON'T get the part depending on your disposition. As for me? Personally I love the possible casting of Cate Blanchett dearly and think that it is dead on perfect. As for Uma as Eowyn, I think that is a definite improvement upon her casting as opposed to the previous rumor of her playing Galadriel. But I'm sure all of you have definite opinions one way or the other.... And I'm sure we'll see quite a bit of division down below in Talk Back...

I thought Jeffrey Combs already had this part?
-
we'll see who gets what.. cate would be class in a film about how long it takes paint to dry.... and before we get all the rants about uma she's good when properly directed.
-
Can't say I like the idea of Uma as Eowyn the shield maiden. Her otherworldy look could better be used as an elf....not that I'm saying she should be Lady G, but definitely not Rohirrim material. And although Blanchett is not my choice for Galadriel (aka Artanis, aka Nerwen, aka Alatariel) I think she would do very well in the role. Glad Stamp is not doing Grima. I like his acting, but I've been hoping either Alan Rickman or Jeffrey Coombs would get the part. Oh, and nice to see you back, morGoth....how's yer burn....err....tan? Namarie.
-
So does this mean that the rumors of Terence Stamp being up for a role in the trilogy are false? Or just specifically that he

Cate and Uma are two of the best young actresses around at the moment, it would be wonderful for the production to get them on board. I would have thought it would be the other way around though, Cate as Eowyn and Uma as Galadriel. Whatever, I'm sure they'll both add to the production immensly if signed on.

I'm not a LOTR fan. I am currently nearly halfway through TROTK, and it's the first time I have read the books since I was 10. They are very very good books, and I can understand people adoring them, and I am enjoying reading them, and am looking forward to the movies, but I am not one who would call them his favourite book. I say this simply to establish my lack of in-depth knowledge. That said, Uma seems to me to be exactly as I picture Galadriel. Cate is very beautiful, but I just can't see it, and wonder what it is that you fans see in her that makes her Galadriel. I also have probelms with Uma as Eowyn. Doesn't she need to convince as a male warrior? I think Jeffrey Combs's agent has said he is out of the running for Wormtongue. Pity. That would have been inspired casting. *** Anyway, if you are interested, on my website, I have a photo of a village set believed to be for LOTR that was published in a Wellington newspaper. Have a look. **** www.homestead.com/vertigofilms/

Give us that, PJ, my love! Because it's my birthday, my love, and I wants it!
-
I thought Liv Tyler had definitely been cast, they just hadn't released the details yet? If that's the case and Delucca has other people in mind for Eowyn and Galadriel what does that realistically leave for Liv unless PJ has changed his mind about the Bombadil sections and she's gonna be Goldberry?
-
Uma as Eowyn makes a LOT more sense. Cate definately has the "weight" to play the age-old Galadriel. I think it'd be great casting. YAHOO!
-
I have it from a reliable source that Jeffrey Combs isn't going to be in the movie. As far as why Terence Stamp was being linked to Wormtongue in the rumour mill, the reason for this is that his role was originally described as being "a nasty one, not a cuddly one." That led to speculation of roles such as Ugluk or Grishnak, the Witch King, or Wormtongue.
Oh, and for that dude who was confused about Liv's role, she's been cast as Arwen, the "female romantic lead" in PJ's version of LOTR.
Personally, I'm pretty happy with the casting to date, and I'd love to hear confirmation about Cate and Uma, if for no other reason than that they're both great actresses and I want this whole casting phase to be finalized! There really are a lot of cool things to talk about besides casting, but I need to know who's playing what before I can move into this next phase of discussion. Apparently, I'm not alone in this. Let's hope we'll have all the casting details (at least for Fellowship) within the next week or so. It's odd that they still haven't nailed down Galadriel at this point. I hope they've got a really eager, patient, and superb acting runner-up already in mind. -
Why, oh why, can't Kate Winslet play Eowyn (time restraints, time reshraimts)?! She IS Eowyn! As for Cate Blanchet...she'd be PERFECT for Galadriel! Much better than Uma (pugh!). Regarding Grima, I thought that guy from DS9 would be better than Tarnce Stamp; he'd be more suited to play Elrond (greecian-formula).
-
Did anybody catch the season premiere of the Simpsons? Notice the fat comic book/nerd guy being thrown out of the movie screening with his laptop computer? Bwahahaha!
-
Ok, cate blanchett is semi-acceptable as Galadriel, but Uma as Eowyn???? Eowyn is supposed to be a sheildmaiden, so they need someone a bit more athletic, rather than anorexic, don't you think? They need someone attractive but built, like a Lucy Lawless type. Someone that will look good in armor wielding a sword. How about adding some unknowns in this movie instead of all "stars"? It would be nice to see some new talent.
-
Terence Stamp is perfect for Denethor, but a little aged for Elrond ("neither old nor young"). Either Uma or Cate will do nicely as Eowyn, but neither is right for Galadriel, who should be played by a woman who is far more visually arresting (facially) than either of these two. Faramir should be played by an actor that radiates "man". Ethan Hawke radiates "boy".
-
I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to contact Peter Jackson, the director of The Fellowship movies about casting as an extra or a job working on costumes. I haven't been able to find any reliable information regarding that. Any help would be appreciated.

as a fan (not fanboy) of Tolkien I have already resigned myself to the fact that no live-action Tolkien can match the experience I lived while reading those books for the umpteenth time. Uma? okay. Cate? okay. Whatever. As one of the very first truly kick-ass-babes Eowyn has a special place in my heart, no live-action performance is likely to change that. If they are directed well it will work well, if they are directed poorly it will be another great and heavy *SIGH* side note: HARRY: re the above posting about the simpsons premier, they did draw that character larger than I remember, I'd be freakin jazzed as hell if I had inspired a gag on Simpsons, kudos!
-
For those who doubt her ability in this role, check out her work as Maid Marian in the Patrick Bergin version of Robin Hood in the early '90s (came out the same time as the Costner crap - never theatrically released in the U.S.) This BTW is, IMHO the best Robin Hood adaptation - it's a shame we didn't get to see it on the big screen here.
Regardless, Uma played a believably tom-boyish and capable Maid Marian and was a bright spot in the film. I have read for a long time this crap about Thurman not having the acting chops. This is knee-jerk bias. She has the range to play the innocent or defenseless to the self possessed, intelligent, and threatening - all credibly. Her contribution would be a damn sight better than the average, or even above average, English actress who all seem to communicate an attitude of earnest strain, regardless of the role they're playing.
English actors are an entirely different story - they take themselves so seriously that they can easily play these larger than life - royal seeming - characters with the gravity they truly require.
Only one caution. As we appear to be looking at "unique" looking actors and actresses to play elves (and therefore prob. limiting the use of prosthetics). It would make sense to make the roles of "men" to be as conventional looking as possible. We're not talking about an audience that will be tracking very well to begin with. Uma's looks can present a problem here.
-
He wasn't being thrown out, he was walking out with the rest of the crowd because the film was over.
-
Quote from AICNs Oscar-nominations comments: "Well here's the 800 gorilla of puke. I'm grabbing my bucket and heaving away cause Cate Blancett is gonna win dammit! No matter how much I wish and hope that Gwyneth Paltrow will win... It won't do a bit of good cause the witch of the east is gonna win dammit." Are these Harry's words??? I noticed a brief bit written in red after this little outburst, but I don't know if THAT was Harry or someone else. Does anybody know?
-
Yes, yes, yes, of course.....Galadriel competed with the guys in Valinor and beat most of them. As for Eowyn, well, you just don't slice off the head of a Nazgul Buzzard with one swipe unless A)Uma works out alot between now and then, or B) Hunter S. Thompson is her pharmacist....As for Ethan, he's a boy. He might be able to pull off Frodo, but Faramir?.... How about David Hyde Pierce as Grima? Eyes aren't quite right, but he could do the rest easily.....Charlton Heston as Denethor.....Alec Guiness as Theoden or Denethor.....Cary Elwes (sp?)as Eomer or Faramir.....Hyacinth from "Keeping Up Appearances" as Ioreth the Wisewoman of Gondor....Peter Gabriel as Ghan Buri Ghan....and so on...
-
As I recall, both things happened. You first see him at the test screening of Mel Gibson's movie being thrown out with a desk-top computer. "Excuse me, I had a mouse!" It is later at the premiere of the movie (revised as to Homer's suggestions) that he is seen walking out with the crowd carrying a laptop.
-
You're right on about Faramir! The casting of Ethan Hawke always bothered me somehow but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. When all's said and done, I think we base our preferences for actors on what they "radiate" rather than what they look like. So when someone says "X has the perfect look for Galadriel", it really means "feel" instead of "look". Using this newly acquired wisdom ;-) I was able to find out why *exactly* Uma Thurman bothers me: she radiates "witch" instead of "queen" (Galadriel) or "hotblood" (Eowyn). Now I'm ready for some flame from the Uma-lovers :-)
-
ah the blissful desert of the fanboys tears should uma play eowyn... not a question of talent, but would you ever mistake her for a man? and could you believe for a second a nazgul wouldnt swat her aside without effort? look to someone with more attitude, more handsome than pretty, more chameleon-like talent... i think toni collette is available... as for cate as galadriel, nothing less than a goddess is required, and tho wonderful cate is very mortal... but who living could play her? all the garbos are long gone, and catherine deneuve is too old... think quicksilver, think dizzying depth, think unbearably sexy... impression of vast age is important too, so should be european... julie delpy seems closest... ahhhhh but windborne sighs reach few ears...
-
My only concern about casting Uma Thurman as Eowyn is: as I thought when I heard the Ashley-Judd-for-Eowyn rumor, NO ONE is going to believe that Aragorn would choose Liv Tyler's totally lightweight, insipid-but-pretty Arwen over Thurman's Eowyn. Also, the nature of Thurman and Hawke's real life relationship will automatically make Eowyn's and Faramir's story far more interesting than that of Townsend's Aragorn and Tyler's Arwen. This is lopsided casting at its worst.
Also, to those who think Uma is too wimpy: get real! She's thin, but she's about six feet tall! Didn't anyone here see her in "The Avengers" or "Only Cowgirls Get The Blues" or even "Batman and Robin," for God's sake? Sure, they were shitty movies, but everyone here sees everything (usually), don't they? -
I don't understand why some people have such a distaste for Uma. Batman & Robin being the exception (bad material) she's been great in everything I've seen her in. She'll be great in the part. Everyone will be great in ALL their parts. I'm still happy. I'm still confident. I'm still excited. I can't wait to see these movies. Viva Peter Jackson! Viva New Line! Damn, those Samoans are a surly bunch!
-
I thought no one was sure which role he would play.I thought Denethor. And what happened to this Combs guy?
-
We wants it, we wants it!!!
-
I can't understand how anyone could want Uma cast in a movie they liked. I've never seen her act very well in anything! She's always the same unemotional witch in every movie. For the part of Galadriel you need someone who is regal and beautiful. Uma can kind of pull of the regal, in a bitchy sort of way, and she'd be somewhat attractive if you lopped her head off. (Those bug eyes make her look like Steve Buscemi, for crying out loud! How blind is Ethan?) For the part of Eowyn you need someone both attractive (strike one for Uma) and someone physically strong (like someone else said, she's tall enough, but she's way too skinny). Personally, I like Cate Blanchett for Galadriel (I hadn't thought of her until I read about) especially after seeing that picture of her over on Ringbearer.org. She definitely looks the part. For Eowyn, I'd recommend maybe Natascha McElhone (Dierdre in Ronin), Catherine McCormack (Mrs. Wallace in Braveheart), or Maria Bonnevie (Olga in 13th Warrior.)
Uma is the first casting I've really disagreed with (although I wasn't too happy about Aragorn being 20 something instead of 40 something), I hope they pull their heads out in time to avert this disaster. -
Hey, I'm disappointed. Can't say anything about Cate Blanchet, but I definetely don't like the idea of either Kate Winslet or Uma Thurman as Eowyn. How can you seriously consider Winslet to be a good Eowyn? 1) She's not that beautiful 2)she's not athletic. No one will convince me that she can play a female warrior who could confront the Witch King himself. Uma Thurman as Galdadriel is more or less all right, but Eowyn? Ok, it's reasonable if Ethan Hawke plays Faramir, but still... Are you sure that she's young? I mean, of course, she's not old, but Eowyn was 24 and how old is Uma? 30 something? She doesn't look like a maiden. Cheers, elf-friends.
-
And not just LothLorien! There are too many "Cate and Uma" posts. Start singling out the better one, people! Blanchett is perfect for Galadriel, and if you don't think she's facially arresting, you're either blind, or you have not seen much of her. She is the next Glenn Close! Her eyes alone arrest you! Uma could make a good Eowyn I suppose. I prefer her to suggestions like Mira Sorvino and Lucy Lawless. Kate Winslett though...sigh. But really, Blanchett is the one I want to see. If they can get Cate Blanchett, then finally there will be a talented actress in these movies! I like Uma, but she's hit or miss. Can't decide until I see her on film. She's better for Eowyn than Galadriel, though.
-
I know there is a lot of debate about Uma, and I thought I'd throw out my opinion. When I saw the casting choices so far, I was confused. These people weren't what I would want, but I could live with them. I hope to god that Uma doesn't get in this movie. Not because she wouldn't work for either part, but because I will always see her as Mrs. Wallace from Pulp Fiction. I want Unknowns!! I don't want someone I associate with Tarrintino dialog. If she gets in I can live with it though, after all I did get over Sean Astin as Sam.
-
Uma was good in "Henry and June" but that's about it. She is NOT Galadriel. Goldberry? YES!
-
Eowyn is described as being tall, well knit, and with an icy quality . She is supposed to be as "fair as a winter killed lily," or something along those lines. How this in ANY way describes Kate Winslet is a good question; Winslet has brown eyes and a warm complexion, is not athletic, and could no more be convincingly disguised as a young man than could Kathy Bates.
Besides, Michael Deluca said about six weeks ago that Winslet was not available for LOTR due to other projects. Unless her other movies have been cancelled, she's not in the cast. -
As for your comments regarding Eowyn being "fair as a winter killed lily" is misquoted from The Return of the King, The Houses of Healing AND I might add she had just been nearly killed! If Kate Winslet were able to take part in the films, she could more than pull it off! Sure she may have brown eyes and Eowyn may have had blue, but if that's your best reason....
-
I think they should cast Alicia Silverstone as Galadriel. That way it could bring her and Liv back together, and when Frodo offers her the ring she could scream out "As if!!!"
-
The lead actress in deep blue sea is the perfect Eowyn. Tall beautiful and has an english accent that sounds tough but vulnerable.
-
Just thought I would drop a quick opinion of my one concerning all this hoopla stuff about Eowyn's casting. Consider this...what about the woman from The Matrix? Carrie-Anne Moss I believe her name is. She's beautiful and well, for those that saw The Matrix, we all know she can whoop some 'arse'. Just my thoughts.
-
would be better as Rose Cotton. Eowyn???? Not even.......
-
I've always liked the idea of her as Arwen or Galadriel, but I agree that she'd make a good Eowyn as well.
-
To pull off Galadriel you need an actress with stature, maturity and the ability to suggest otherworldlyness. Someone like Sigourney Weaver perhaps?
-
no, not nice at all... Where is it, my prescioussss? [gollum] The White Face is gone, yess... Where is it, the preciousss! My... birthday... present, [gollum]... Hey wait just a goshdarn second! I thought that Jeffrey Combs, of Re-Animator was confirmed for the role of Wormtongue! You even had his picture on the article, Harry. Man, I was all excited too. He'd be a great Wormtongue.
-
I am Eowynn!! Uma cannot even be mentioned for my role!
And what is all this about being mistaken for a man?? A masculine Eowynn! never!!
she was mistaken for a young boy, for, if we are not mistaken, everyone possible would have been dredged up to fight in this war to end all wars. In medieval type battle young lads (who r easily mistaken for girls if they r brave enought to have long hair..) were often to be found.
so ha!!
Eowynn has honey blond hair and brown eyes (to contrast Liv Tyler who has dark hair and blue eyes) and she is petite and slightly frail - strength of charachter and desparation allows her to slay the nazgul.
Cate Blanchette is fine by me though
;)
ps,, if ne one knows how i can contact Petey to tell him that I AM EOWYNN, please email me at malinky@hotmail.com
thanx my pplz -
I'm sure Kate Winslet has BLUE eyes.
-
If there was another version of the LOTR being made for "The Fans" only, who do you want to direct it? Who should adapt the screenplay?
-
What ever happened to casting unknowns? I thought that was a great idea. To have people you've seen playing clowns and drug addicts, or anything else that was in anyway memorable detracts from what I think is the purity of this saga. Even if the actor is superb I will still consider it a disapointment if some one famous snags a role. When I read LOTR I don't see Queen Elizabeth with Frodo and Sam at the well, or 98lb Uma charging into battle and slaying the Witch-King and his Fell beast. Somebody please tell me that Peter Jackson has not given in to industry pressure and hired names.
-
I guess in this age of hair dye, wigs, special makeup and colored contact lenses, it really doesn't matter what color hair or eyes any one has. Any one who saw Gorillas In The Mist probably couldn't distinguish between Rick Baker's apes and the real ones. I couldn't. Not that such makeup effects will be needed to make Galadriel (I hope :)). I'm very anxious to see photos of the cast in full costume, but I doubt we'll see anything for some time.
-
To Eowynn: Sorry to disagree and such a small point, but I must point out that, while Eowyn did indeed have blond hair, her eyes were NOT brown. They were "grey as the sea." (ROTK). Yeah, I know, picky, picky .... but that's what we Tolkienites are. :-) Namarie.
-
when I first saw her, I immideatly fell (ok, almost) out of my chair and thought: "Wow!
-
uma thurman would suck ass as eowyn...i think she's totally wrong for the part.

I have always thought the ONLY woman with the right looks, the right voice, and the right class to play GALADRIEL, Queen of the Elves, is...ANNIE LENNOX.
Peter Jackson, if you're listening, PLEASE think about it! -
For the doubters:

Jeeze! I think Dr. Tolkein would be puking in his grave if he knew they were casting Uma as anything. Our beloved story-teller was a romantic and an idealist, and I can't recall one unattractive woman in his wonderful works (accept maybe the old herbalist in the houses of healing). I'm tired of the "Hollywood establishment, et al" trying to convince the American audience that Uma is attractive. Let's face it. She's not!
Now I'm not saying that she's not an increadible actress. But when a part blatantly calls for a pretty face as well as great acting ability, Uma comes up with a 50%, and last time I checked, that generally constitutes a failing grade. I find it appalling that they could even consider her for Eowyn.
Good or bad, beautiful or no, I can't think of a single part that would fit her in this film. Unless they create a new part for her (sacrilige!), the mere mention of her name is a waste of time. -
Slightly older than 20, Morgoth, read Appendix B, The Tale of of Years: "2995 Eowyn sister of Eomer born". Gandalf &Co came to Edoras in March 3019 so I guess she couldn't be younger than 23 and older than 24. Uma doesn't look like 23 even with make-up. And besides, really, what about Unknowns? PJ said they would cast unknowns for major roles and maybe famous actors for minor ones. Galadriel can be played by a star (after seeing that pic of Blanchett, I think she's great), but not Eowyn, she's probably the main female character in the book. Neither Winslet nor Thurman can be called unknowns. But... well, I guess I should relax and you all too: they are not confirmed yet, and I suppose they think more about Ethan Hawk, and less sure about Uma. Let's wait until the official casting list, not so much time left, anyway. When we are gonna see it? At the beginning of October?
-
okay, so i have forgotten some of the details but i was right that she does not have blue eyes - lest she be classed a bimbo (horrors!!). Grey is just as good as brown for me. I am still Eowyn. this is my role. petey??? mail me and ask me along for an interview some time will ya?
-
Uma could be a concubine of Faramir. A dirty little tramp in the corner of the cave. Kevin Bacon should play Eowyn......But enough of this squabbling!!!! Start the shoots!!! I want footage, storyboards, SOMETHING!!!! Oh yeah, answer me this: Do the Elves have beards? Think carefully!!!!
-
I have to agree about casting someone who radiates old age, but agelessness, beauty, and queenliness as Galadriel. In my opnion, there is only one person who could fit into MY idea of Galadriel: Jane Seymour. One of the most beautiful women, even in her 50's. Of course, while I'm dreaming, I could cast the whole move (Connery as Gandalf, Hackman as Saruman, Nicholson as Denethor, Robin Williams as Tom Bambadil, Bob Hoskins as Butterbur, etc..) I'll just have to have faith in PJ to choose the right people.
-
I agree with those who call for so called "unknowns". My favortie movies seem to have all featured new faces and voices. Who had heard of Catherine McCormack or Sophie Marcaue (sp?) before Braveheart? Or Harrison Ford before SW? Or Carrie-Anne Moss before the Matrix? Or just about everyone in Dances with Wolves? (even Costner was not nearly as big a star as he is now). Also, unkowns are cheap, and have to perform at auditions, meaning we get good acting and also lots of spare change for special FX and costumes and lots of extras in battle scenes. Having said that, I think we can all come up with our personal dream-cast, who are invariably all pretty well known (because most of us don't know that many attractive people who are not cellebrities). This is not a contradiction. Our listed stars reflect the "spirit" or "look" or whatever of the unknown we imagine we would like to see in these roles. For example, my choice for Eowyn is an unkown with the kind of "feel" of Gwineth Paltrow. She has a great, strong bone structure (very Teutonic- strong nose and large square jaw), with the pale eyes and blond hair, the leanness ("small but well-knit frame") and the beauty for the part. I think Tolkien would crack a boner in his grave to think of it. Also, Paltrow can act well, can play a boy/man quite convincingly (in Shakespearre in Love) because of her strong features, and would definitely look good in armour. Thus, I would love to see an unknown who exceeds all these prperties of Paltrow in the role. Do you follow? Finally, Eowyn is not the role for Sphie Dahl or Winslet or any other "womanly", large-arssed and chubby-fingured actress. Leave that for Rosie Cotton. Also, for those who think the end of ROTK would not spoil a movie, can you think of an ending that would?
-
My last post went missing it seems so I am back. Thankyou to the person who said that we need no chubby wimmen for Eowyn - we need someone of petite, well proportioned youthfullness (not overly endowed as she successfully convinces the army that she is a bloke). Uma is elvish if anything but i think she carries too much baggage and is too tall to be considered - if she even entertained the notion of disguise as a male she would be laffed at forever more. I would like to volunteer my own unknown status for this role (well we all have our role in this film dont we?) so Peter, if u r reading this - contact me will ya??
lol pplz -
Generally speaking, the answer is "No." However, male Eldar who have been around a looooooooooong time (say 10,000 years or more)and who do not dwell in Aman (where nothing ages)are definitely capable of growing a beard. The proof? -- Cirdan, at the Grey Havens at the end of RotK. He is described as follows: "As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and he was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars..." Since Cirdan was one of the original Eldar who awoke at Cuivienen in the First Age, that would make him more than 11,300 years old at the time he greeted the Last Riding of the Keepers. And remember that elves outside of Aman are not truly immortal in the traditional sense. Their spirits (fea) are very powerful and very, very slowly consume their bodies (hroa). Which is also why under situations of extreme nature, Eldar appear almost translucent, due to their fea waxing bright within them. Ok, enough of my mental meandering. Suffice it to say that only the very, very eldest elves, and then only those outside Aman, would have beards. Cirdan, BTW, is the ONLY Eldar ever mentioned as having a beard. Of course, outside of Aman, not many Eldar who awoke at Cuivienen survived past the First Age, let alone into the Third, and most who did survive went West over Belegaer. BTW, Elwe old chap, thanks for the insightful question. I love being a Tolkienite! Namarie.
-
Quite a bit older than 11,300 years, considering Elrond is around 10,000 years old. Somewhere in an appendix or The Silmarillion Tolkien tells us the elves last as long as Arda, but may grow weary after 10,000 centuries (1,000,000 years)and go to Lorien (in Aman)or, like you say, become more spirit than body.
Cirdan was probably more like +100,000 years old since the period between the awakening and the return from Aman was more or less timeless. But as for beards, I have an old copy of The Two Towers that has an illustration by JRRT on the front cover. It shows to small figures scrambling around in a forest of huge trees. At first glance, one assumes it is Merry and Pippin in Fangorn, but a credit says it is a depiction of Beleg Strongbow and Turin Turambar. Now, one is an elf and one a human, but they both have beards!!! Obviously , beard growth was a matter of personal choice. Elves came to symbolize higher culture and so were probably mostly clean- shaven. But even in Numenorean culture beards had there place. Look at the Pillars of the Argonath......Just another of the inconsistencies of the human Tolkien. Kind of like writing so much about the three marriages of Elf and Man and then throwing in a fourth ( or more)with Imrahil's ancestors. The Master was prone to contradiction at times, God Bless Him, and I love every one of them. -
galadriel should be played by Issabella Rossilini, she is still gorgeous although she is over 40 ,she has a wonderfull accent and she has genuine screen presence.
