AMERICAN PIE 4 Has Directors Now...Which Means HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS Didn't...But Now Does!!

Merrick here...
We'd previously heard that HAROLD & KUMAR creators Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg would be scripting the new AMERICAN PIE feature film - the first theatrical installment for that franchise in 7 years (details HERE). Now comes word the duo will direct the film as well. Per THIS article in The Hollywood Reporter. The following is a concept a few Talkbackers seem to struggle with: the notions of "sequel"/"homage"/"reboot" are not mutually exclusive. They can coexist. This is a perfect example: Hollywood Reporter says that this new AP project hopes "to reunite the cast of the original movies. No deals have been made, but the strong interest on the actors’ end is one reason the project is in high gear.". But THR also refers to this movie as a "reboot", as it'll supposedly inject a substantial dose of new blood/concepts into the mix with an eye towards "resetting the property" ("reset" wording from THIS L.A. Times piece from mid February). I.e., as one Talkbacker phrased it, AMERICAN PIE 4 appears to be a "Sequelboot"- not unlike the recently announced POLICE ACADEMY movie (details HERE). Hurwitz and Schlossberg's direction of AMERICAN PIE 4 leaves A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS without directors - they were supposed to be directing that film. Commercial/music video director Todd Strauss Schulson will now helm the third installment of that franchise, working from a script authored Hurwitz and Schlossberg before they jumped ship.
