Download Trailers for ANY GIVEN SUNDAY and THE GREEN MILE

Published at:  Sep 25, 1999 9:00:36 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here. Well, looks as if the trailers for THE GREEN MILE and ANY GIVEN SUNDAY have popped online at both of their mutual websites. (Which you can get to by clicking on the above links) Also, you will find their movie posters there as well. It's funny, I've received some email from folks that HATE the GREEN MILE poster, but ya know... I love it. To me it is very evocative of 1930's movie posters with a psuedo-Stone-Litho styling to it. Now... if they only shiped the posters folded to the theaters and printed upon flat (non-glossy) stock paper... well, that'd just about make my day complete. But... of course it'll be printed on glossy high grade paper and sent rolled. Sigh... Oh well. I fully expect to be flamed like hell for liking that poster though. Anyway... enjoy the trailers...

    I'm First (poster sucks)

    by brooksmarlin

That poster looks so bad. It's not even a good likeness of Tom Hanks. It seems as though the studio wants to have this movie on his stardom than on the film's merits.

    Trailers/Posters

    by matthat

Hmm, I wasn't too impressed by that Green Mile trailer. The movie looks too, I don't know, sappy and feel-good. Very Hollywood. And, I'll tell ya, while the poster really banks on Tom Hanks's's's's drawing power, the trailer doesn't at all.

Any Given Sunday's trailer is pretty cool, if a bit geared to young audiences. It pissed the hell outta me that they used Kid Rock's "Bawitdaba" song. I hate when trailers try to capitalize on stupid popular songs. The performances look good, but it was still very Mtv-ish.

But folks, you should have a look at the main site, too. There isn't much of anything there, just the poster. Now, somebody explain to me WHY THE HELL Tom Hanks looks like a Ken-doll!

    Better

    by 0007

I too like the "new" Green Mile poster, but I must say that I liked the teaser poster much better. I think their order should have been reversed, with the teaser design being the theatrical release version. Oh, how about that music accompanying the trailer? Pretty great stuff!

    About the Poster...

    by simon-t

I've found it splendid: the design is in the perfect style of illustrations in '30s/'40s.
I like it, and I like also the slogan.

The Green Mile poster is nice, but it's identical to the poster for Saving Private Ryan.

    Oops.

    by unclesam

The poster displayed on the film's website is different from the one that I've seen in the theater. I take my previous post back. What I had seen previously was nothing but odd, magical-looking clouds surrounding the sillouettes of two guards walking alongside Coffey, much like Private Ryan's clouds over the sillouette of a lone soldier.

I'm with Harry on this one - As a graphic design in Seattle I really admire this illustration - and Harry, I love your notion of printing it on noncoated stock and fiolding it up! The trailer almost made me cry.

    Green Mile

    by canucklou

MatHat - have you read the book?

The trailer shows to me that the movie will capture the spirit of the book.

This is NOT the Richard Bachman style Stephen King we're talking here. This is more akin to the The Body aka Stand By Me.

If you didn't like that or Shawshank Redemption for that matter - best give this one a wide berth!

As for me, I'm really stoked for this one!

    It looks awesome!

    Canucklou:

No, I haven't read The Green Mile. And I wasn't expecting a Richard Bachman Desperation/Cujo Stephen King film, but I was expecting something more intense besides beautiful music and miracles. There were too many shots of Duncan just looking up and crying. After seeing the trailer, we know he's a sympathetic character, but why did they have to beat us into the ground with that notion? Isn't there more to the story? That's what I wanted to see represented in this trailer...that there is more going on here than a guy who can make miracles happen.

    Movie Posters and such

    by down10

As movie posters go, this one is all right. Yes, it's another celebrity head-shot, but it does have some sort of artistic flair, which is certainly better than most one-sheets out there. I'd like to see the teaser poster to judge the difference. Speaking of-- Does anyone out there know of a reliable place online that has high-res movie posters available for download? Most sites out there are just advertisements for ordering, mostly without the picture available. Studio-porduced websites rarely place the one-sheets up, and it would be nice to have some place to have a close-up look at these things. Thanks to anyone who can help...

    Green Mile Poster

    by all thumbs

This is a poster that will be a collector's item someday; not just because of the film getting Oscar nominations, but because of the style. Yes, it is a headshot of the star, but it is in a style that is very different from that of today's posters. Think of the Scream posters...now every poster seems to have headshots that are shadowed in darkness. (I don't think Scream was the first to do it, but one of the ones I can name right now.) It's just nice to see something different that brings back the style of the past. I love The Green Mile poster and I think I'm going to love this movie.

    Silence is golden?

    by dandini

Am I the only person who gets a silent version of this trailer? I've downloaded it twice, on different machines, and each time it's had no sound at all. Am I just rubbish? Oh do tell me, please do.

    Any Given Sunday.

    by axel foley

Am I the only one who bothered to look at the Any Given Sunday trailer? I loved it. Granted I had to watch it without sound (gotta wait till I get home from work to see it with sound) but I thought it looked like what it's supposed to look like: the trailer to an amazing sports film. Some of the imagery was fantastic (that low angled shot of the football players looking like warriors with their faces in shadow looked fantastic!). I loved that slick, polished look it had (is that to mirror the way sports today are slickly packaged for the masses in a way it wasn't, say, twenty years ago or am I reading too much into it and it's just supposed to look damn cool). Even the title, stamped over the tactical plays blackboard and courier text looked just so.... right. I'm looking forward to seeing this trailer in the theater and I'll be queing up to see the the film. Don't get me wrong, The Green Mile is still probably the number one film I want to see right now (The Shawshank Redemption is, for me, a modern classic. Absolutely NO other film has ever made me feel the way that one did when I left the theater. I ran around trying to get everyone I knew to see it.) I just had to say something about Any Given Sunday seeing as nobody else said what I felt. I hope it meets my expectations.

    Any Given Sunday looks fantastic

    by madboy

I'm very excited. . . AGS looks very good, despite the Kid Rock song in the trailer. EVERYONE looks good in it, including my chief concern, Jamie Foxx. I hope it lives up to the promise of the trailer. The Grenn Mile - that poster really does suck, but the trailer looks great. All those who are complaining about how it's looking sappy and sentimental. . . hello, have you read the books? It's a pretty damn sentimental series. I just hope they don't tone down the parts that were a little more gritty. Coffey looks great, and Hanks looks like. . . well, he looks like the characters he's been playing. Either way, I'm definitely going to see both of these.

    Movie Posters

    by corleone

Out of curiousity, did anyone catch the new Entertainment Weekly
"Top 100 Movie moments" issue? They had a section on the 30
best movie posters of all time...one of them was for Scorcese's new
"Bringing out the Dead" with a homo Nick Cage in the middle of a Red Cross
Are you kidding me? This is one of the 30 best movie posters OF ALL TIME?
If they wanted to pick a modern poster, why not the teaser for TGM? This is, simply, one of the most effective
posters I have ever seen. If you read the King Serial, it truly embodies the spirit of the story (especially how the whole picture is a muted green color...the exact color King's Edgcombe describes the tiles in the green mile in the novel.
Just curious to see what others thought...

    Green Mile poster/trailer

    by ratso

The new "Hanks" poster is hardly
typical. A retro-illustration (of the worlds' biggest movie star, no less!?) That's balls.

And if you see a more emotional trailer this year, let me know.

    Where did it go?

    by textileblock

I wonder if they got more traffic to thegreenmile.com for the trailer than they were expecting... it's not there anymore, not even the direct link a few messages back works. Is there anywhere else this trailer is available? I was up until 1:30 this morning trying to find it... GRRRR.

    Trailer???

    by redfield

greenmile.com probably got pretty swamped. I came to the party late, too. I've been dying to see this trailer! Are there any mirror sites out there? Ka will provide.

About the poster, I didn't like it at first, but it's growing on me. It's in the style of those times, like someone mentioned.

    Happy hunting!

    Pacino is Wolverine?

    by chuck beckett

Check out that poster for "Any Given Sunday" --- man, makes me think that Pacino would have been great for Logan - albeit a much older mutant.

    Deniro was wolverine...

    by windom earle

Actually, it's funny you mention pacino as a wolverine candidate... i don't know how common this rumor is, but i remember about 3 years ago there being a rumor that deniro was being looked at as logan. I think i read it in wizard or something... woulda been kinda cool...
