* “Chuck,” nearly cancelled last season, continues to pull a lower number than any “Chuck” aired last season. NBC has a new secret-agent romantic dramedy pilot from J.J. Abrams in the wings, so things are not looking good for the Buy More.
* Part of Chuck’s woes can be attributed to the new Pam Anderson-infused “Dancing With The Stars,” which ridiculously outperformed its prior season, crushing even new episodes of CBS’ biggest shows, “Big Bang Theory” and “Two and a Half Men.” Perhaps reality is the path ABC must now travel now that all its horrible dramedies are imploding.
* “Dancing” helped “Castle” hit its season (and I think all-time) high.
* At 10 p.m. “Castle” beat “CSI Miami” for the first time, pushing the CBS spin-off to its season low. Both shows beat “Law & Order.”
* “Dancing” didn’t hurt “24,” despite Stephen Root’s final episode being paired with a “House” repeat. “24” was cancelled this week anyway.
* The second-season premieres of Showtime’s “United States of Tara” and “Nurse Jackie,” each with a fraction of the “24” audience, did well enough to garner third-season pick-ups last week.
* Poor “Damages” continues to bring up the rear. You can get some clues regarding what’s ahead for Patty, Ellen, Tom, Leonard Winstone (but not Arthur Frobisher) tonight from the evil mirror-universe Hercules. But beware also spoilers there for this week’s “Justified” and “Fringe.”
* Someone claimed I no longer get to see episodes of "Damages" in advance, so I'm here revealing the end of tonight's episode in invisotext: "Don't answer that."

Well, I'm not satisfied with these results. Darn it people start supporting good shows, and take old people out to eat on Monday's and let some of these shows for us younger audience breathe.

American Pickers is apparently, according to DirecTV's guide, being shrunk to half hour installments. Ok...Fuck that shit. It's bad enough they are slapping unfunny, and painfully staged segments into Pawn Stars now, as shown with the five dollar foot long auction, but part of the charm of American Pickers....hell, THE CHARM of American Pickers is the length of time they give to each pick. The stakeout of the joint, the introduction of the folks, the back stories, the haggling, the digging, exploration the automotive graveyards, or closed museums, and the history of them, to condense that into a half hour just seems like it would be rushed and really kill the spirit of the show. The only thing they needed to do to improve an already amazing show, was give a little time at the end to Danielle's restoration work and the results, not bastardize it to folks with short attention spans. Seriously, watch the shit be filled with jump cuts, and two to three short ass picks. Why can't they screw around with their shitty Monster Quest shows and paranormal crap? Anyone with half a noggin knows they aren't gonna find squat, and CERTAINLY not 'squatch anyways.
-
Hey lets cast the blandest actor we can find - Brandon Routh - and cast him as Chuck's new boss who Sarah then sleeps with - because really nothing says love like fucking your true love's boss. I'm fine with Sarah being with someone else in general, but Jesus that was stupid as far as managing a fanbase.
-
because Desperate Housewives co-star Dana Delany guested on it. She'll be on tonight, also. Danzig had nothing to do with it.
-
My 4th favorite show after Lost. Venture Bothers and Breaking Bad. Fringe is 5th.

And Chuck was never that good. We all knew it wouldn't make it.

...the profound mental midgetism affecting the TV staring at hordes of today.
Show is delivering this season and really manages to get the dread out like nothing else... and this is how it gets treated.
Maybe it's something in the water. That's stupided people. So they can't pay attention anymore. -

...will get cancelled? Will there be a season 4 of Damages? I'm curious because it's an amazing show - the best on TV right now after Breaking Bad - and I'd really hate to see it go.
-
I know season one didn't have great ratings, and they renewed it for two more seasons out of good faith. They may just say enough is enough at this point, but they've established before that their commitment to this show is out of the quality of the product, not the numbers, so HOPEFULLY, they'd be willing to at least give it one more year to properly end things? I mean this season has been getting a ton of acclaim.
-
Good grief, those numbers are shocking. What the hell IS Kell on Earth or Transform me? No, I don't want to know. This is just a sad reflection on American viewing habits when a star-studded, cleverly plotted show loses out to a dozen low-rent reality shows.
Unless every single person watching buys 2 Cadillacs, I don't think we're going to see any more Damages. -
because that's probably the greatest hope that Damages will continue. Same for Subway/Chuck. With sandwiches. It all comes down to the $$$. I'd be thrilled if FX would pony up for one more season to wrap things up, but then I recall Thief and the Riches (though the latter was helped along by the writers' strike).
-
Totally agree. They have screwed the pooch on the whole Brandon Routh thing. Chuck worked because of the Moonlighting charm of the two leads. Now that's gone I can't see it lasting much longer. And that's not even including the Kristen Kreuk do over...
-
If they Cancel Chuck then I won't be watching NBC anymore, that's the last show I watch on NBC already. Canceling 24 ended the only show I watch on FOX... So now I'll check out Brothers & Sisters on ABC until that goes the way of doldrums like Grey's anatomy and Desperate did.
I guess it is just Food network and HGTV left.... network TV is effectively pushing me out and away.
-
and kept FBI special agent Shaw as Castle's partner, I'd probably watch it.
-
Herc said Chuck was going to end on.I hope he doesn't get possessed by Bob.
-
I would not likely be watching, anymore. Shaw and Castle don't have the same dynamic.
-
What's up with nearly a 7 day delay on the ratings from LAST monday? The other assorted rating sites had this info by wednesday...
Anyways, in case anyone cares, no castle hasn't offed the kate. (else there wouldn't be any more castle books IRL ;) ) She had a split second when she heard the pre-recorded goodbye, so she obviously jumped back in the tub full of water (or turned tub over, etc) which of course in tv and movies protects you from massive fireball like explosions ;)
Re: saving grace: that's THIS monday (today) not last monday, and it's already been canceled. the 3rd season was cut majorly short, and they are airing the remaining eps and wrapping up the current plot line for a short (8 or 9 eps) 4th season as they jump the shark and really turn up the religion.
Blah, I like holly (not a huge fan of the uber religiousness of it, but so be it) however the studio said it was too expensive and pulled the plug. Maybe there will be a saving grace talkback tomorrow. (or perhaps a week from tomorrow if the ratings are so fcking slow again...) -
It may be pulling lower numbers because of Charlie Sheen's bad behavior offscreen lately. I can easily imagine why women wouldn't watch the show anymore........and how come no one on this Web site ever discusses The Big Bang Theory, a show that is essentially about people like us?!?!?!?!
-
I agree with you about The Big Bang Theory. That show should have a place of honor on this site
-
It's still one of my favorite shows, but they did screw the story line this season by bringing in Brandon Routh and Kristen Kreuk. Brandon Routh has about as much acting talent as a lump of coal. If he was anymore wooden, he'd be a 2x4. They really threw everything out of wack introducing him as a main character and taking away from the funny charm of the Chuck/Sarah/Casey relationship. I hope they make Routh a double agent and kill his non-Superman ass off.
-
What is this, season 6 again?
-
Has finally gotten his due rewards! Last week was one of the best episodes and to air that after DWTS was genius.
The show is great, and let's face it, Fillion is Gold! -
Wonder if ratings will be down (again) tonight.
-
Wow. That's roughly 18 people watching I think.
-
What is there to even talk about? The horrible twists? The season where nothing happens? Just let it end. There is literally nothing worth talking back about each week. Everyone just bitches about missing tony, and how everything sucks. What do you even want to talk about anymore?
-
The fact that we got three years of goodness out of it is a TV miracle.
-
Um, that's the format of AICN - a shows talkback goes up the day it airs, not the next day. yes, I know it's into it's final run of episodes: so is Lost, which gets s talkback every week. And, yeah, it's a series about a sinner being hounded by her personal "Last Chance Angel". If you think it's "too religious" it was never for you in the first place. You also might not like Joan of Arcadia, Book of Daniel or God, The Devil & Bob. I have a Wonderfalls here you might enjoy...
-
...I didn't watch any of these shows. Played some old South Park & Batman TAS instead. :-)
-
I love the rapid pace the status quo changes have been coming lately. Chuck's secret is now known to both his sister's boyfriend but his dopey best friend from work. Sarah's seriously considering a transfer to DC. Casey lost his clearance. And last week, two major blockbusters do I need to say Spoiler? It was a week ago, if you don't know by now you don't much care. Casey's been fired from the CIA but he still capped a guy to save Chuck's life - meaning that without a license to kill, he's now a murderer. And the reason he did it was because Chuck couldn't; meaning that Chuck wants to be a spy but really isn't cut out for the job. Which makes sense considering how he got dragged into the gig in the first place. If Herc's right and the season ending cliffhanger does turn out to be the series finale, I hope it ends n a way that let's us assume Chuck did the right thing. (IE a "will he quit or won't he" cliff as opposed to a "will he kill or be killed" cliff, which would logically end with him dead.)
-
For a show with a history of memorable guest stars (Vinnie Jones, Steve Autsin, etc) they sure managed to cast the most boring actor alive for a recurring role.
-
It was a much better show before he came. Not to mention they manger to, yet gain, ind a contrived way to keep chuck and Sarah apart. None of their reason ever make a lick of sense. The show would actually be better if they were together and worked as a spy team. I don't know the writers hate the idea of them being together so much. We all know it inevitable
as for Routh, my gay friend says he likes him cause he thinks he's really good looking....I tell him he is clearly blind to the fact that he is undoubtedly the most boron actor to ever live. He really is like a piece of fucking wood. It's pathetic. I'll bet Yvonna hates doing scenes with him after 2 years of working with Chuck, who just puts so much into all his scenes. Routh just says his lines..."dramatically". It's pathetic. Not to mention it's almost comic he plate Superman is a 300 millin dollar epic, and now he's making chunpchange on a show about to get cancelled. -
Still don't understand the hate.
-
I believe Chuck is the best show on Tv. One problem is that people who watch Chuck are tech savvy. They like to DVR, watch online, or download the show. This kills the ratings. I just listened to a podcast that said after DVR numbers were added from the episode 3 weeks ago it added another .7 to the rating. Chuck has one the best fan bases around. It would be crazy to cancel such a great show.
-
Damages is at least getting serious Emmy acclaim. It seems Glenn Close is always a lock, and I wouldn't be surprised to see most of the cast get at least nominations this season. Additionally, it's always getting writing/directing nods too. I know The Riches got some attention, but it wasn't garnering this many awards, was it?
-
Chuck has held up pretty well in the ratings. The core concept being that he's so valuable he has to be protected at all costs. Now he might have all the nation's secrets in his head but they don't give a damn anymore if he puts his life at risk.
Which makes no sense, so I'm surprised it has held up as well as it has. -
because Nathan Fillion is a joy to watch no matter who surrounds him. But Beckett is completely one-dimensional. Her traits include finding joy in pretending to be seductive, but that's about the depth of her character. Shaw is smart, funny, and dynamic, way better than Beckett. You know it won't happen, but even after only one show, I already prefer the relationship between Shaw and Castle. I say keep all three, though... this little triangle of theirs is interesting :)
-
Chuck's a douche, Casey's a pussy, and Sarah's a slut.What happened to my crew?
-
Those 24 talkbacks stink. They stink of people wondering about Tony, where he could be, who he is with, what he's thinking, if he's thinking of them, and if he'll ever return someday.
-
It is good they're letting 24 go out this season, but c'mon begrudging a TB for the peopl that still show interest? You could argue "Waah Lost Talkbacks are just people moaning that it didn't answer X, Y or Z. Or why Jacob didn't explain this".
Jerks populate and bring down all talkbacks - they're not exclusive to 24. On a side note: Damages is indeed a strong show, but I could never see it pulling mainstream audiences. I'm just making the most of the ride - I reckon another season tops before it gets pulled. As a side show it's some of Dansons best work. -
The first season was decent... the dynamic between chuck and sarah kept it interesting.
Putting Routh in there was a complete series killer. NBC sure know how to kill of decent shows quickly. -
I am getting into castle more and more but Isnt Castle just a copy of the show Bones?
-
Both Castle and Bones share a lot in common with other shows going back decades.
-
Or is the real talkback hanging out with the DVD column?
-
I would like to see more of it but realistically when you're pulling in those kinds of numbers, it's done. Of course Glenn Close will get an Emmy nod, but is that really enough to keep it around? Apart from Michael J Fox for Rescue Me, it was the only FX show that was represented at the Emmys, so its possible that they will keep it around just for the prestige factor. I think Martin Short should be up for best supporting actor too, he's turned in some surprisingly great work, he's made more of an impression than William Hurt anyway, who sleepwalked through last season and still got a nod. I think the best we can hope for is they make a short season 4 as a wrap-up for the show, say six episodes, or even a 2 hour post-finale finale like they did with Prison Break.
-
What do you expect NBC can put in place of Chuck that'll do better? Fringe was on the bubble for cancellation in Season 1, which kills any idea that people will flock to a J.J. Abrams show. Meanwhile you had ABC pulling in big numbers with The Bachelor (can't belief anyone watches that crap), then with Dancing With the Stars. So where does the hatred come from? The only time to routinely post ratings is when you want to point out how bad a certain show is doing (i.e. Heroes, Leno).
-
Fringe was the #1 new series last season. It was in no way, shape or form on the bubble for cancellation in Season 1.
-
Wait, wasn't that The Mentalist?
-
Nathan Fillion has a #1 show! holy shit! GEEKS REJOICE!!!!
-
She was on Rules of Engagement tonight!
-
...and not one person between two 24 related talkbacks on the main page discussing it. Shame.
-
Agreed. Except for Dana Walsh (who is obviously working for the US side of this anti peace movement ala Star Trek VI), for whatever reason, I have hope for these final episodes.
-
Well we all knew how that would turn out. Carlito from "The Unit" was the wet team leader. Very good episode though.
-
Nuff said!!!
-
Nah, Herc needs to shill for the latest Joss Whedon crapfest and talk about how all the big scifi shows didn't "get a chance" when the networks approved the pilot, ran the show at every possible time to get people to watch, advertised and promoted it during every major event show it could, etc. But didn't give it a chance. CHUCK GONE! 24 GONE! HEROES probably GONE! V probably GONE! FLASHFORWARD probably GONE! LOST GONE! Reality TV HUGE RATINGS FOR DANCING WITH THE STARS! IT'S REALITY TV FOR THE WIN AND RATINGS ARMAGFUCKINGGEDDON FOR ANYTHING WITH SPACE SHIPS! WOOOOOOOOOO!
-
What? The ratings on FRINGE were NEVER good and it's been on the bubble of cancellation SINCE the first episode aired. I left it out of my list. FRINGE GONE!
-
With Zombie Prez Palmer every episode of 24.
-
We don't care who--just bomb Arabs! For anybody who thinks 24 is right wing nutjobs, the right wing nutjobs are made to look nutty.
-
feh. Yeah, that whole UST formula. Unrequited Sexual Tension. Bones exudes it, Castle seems to be soaking in it, I'm sure it predates X-Files, the first few seasons of Cheers and Moonlighting. At least those leads on Fringe aren't all horny for each other. Guys from alternate universes start taking our women, could result in anti-matter babies.

Sarah learns Chuck couldn't do his hit and Casey pulled the trigger.Chuck gets his superspy assignment to pose as a wealthy playboy in a villa in Rome; pretty much everyone wants to go with him. Except his sister, and Awesome is having second thoughts about that doctors without borders thing.I like the rapid changes in the status quo, but if next season is about a spy who can't do his job assembling a team made up of misfits who he used to work with at Buy More, cancel it now.

And meets a grim writer who may be... well, what's the opposite of angel?Grace's ex partner is moving on, sleeping with his dead brother's wife, knocks his father down twice.Grace's brother the priest faces the fact that he's embarrassed to admit to some of his beliefs.Laura San Giacomo still has an awesome rack.

Curtis Manning shows up on Chuck and nary a mention? If Chuck bows out, it won't be before the status quo is blowed up good.Anyway, I'm bummed that this fabulous trifecta of BB/Damages/Justified will be short lived as Patty Hewes probably plays out her last three episodes.

What the fuck, Lenny isn't even a lawyer!?!?

A ticking bomb? HA!

AFTER being directly attacked, CTU security is still non-existent, Starbuck can run continuous cellphone conversations with the terrorists and nobody notices. She WAVES her active/lit cellphone at BubbaShrimp and says "Here!"Elvis-Hair needs Safe Extraction that Only Jack Can Provide, will use subterranean tunnels for extra safety, but Hey, just stay way up here in the upper floors of the building for TEN MINUTES cuz why wait in the basement when you and your family can stay exposed to the danger for longer? The special forces troops sure were sloppy shots--embarrassingly bad.The Prez shoulda just stood up and said "You are all the dumbest sons of bitches ever to enter a situation room! We will TELL them that we'll deliver ElvisHair, but we will wait the full 59 remaining minutes to say it. Then we'll stall and move as slowly as possible to buy even more time to hunt the bastards down. Now get the hell outta this room and send in ten clowns off the street: they'll grasp this situation faster and better than you just did!"The episode did move along faster, with a bit more action, so it "felt" better if you equate motion with quality. But if you look at what was said and done, it was stupid on stupid, with a big scoop of stupid on top.

And come on, 24 has always been fairly stupid anyway. It's a soap opera for crap's sake.
-
Ha ha yeah. You expect the boss terrorist to say blow that thing up but of course being 24 it must have a timer.
The writers have gotten so lazy they don't even try getting a climatic point at the end of episodes anymore, its 15 minutes into the next one.
So sad the writers have dropped the ball after a somewhat interesting S7. They at least better bring back Agent of Shield Aaron Pierce for his usual few ep. arc. -

You're right, Fringe has been a ratings bonanza since it's start
